((VERY IMPORTANT! Please remember to look at the new additional rules for Quidditch. They are in effect for this game. Hopefully they will soon go up in the Quidditch Important Notices, but until then please look at my post in Talk to the Staff.))
The morning greeted Xiomara crisp and cool as she walked out onto the Quidditch pitch to check that everything was in order for today’s match. Spectators were already beginning to take their seats, the stands slowly filling up as they arrived to support their preferred team. Sunbeams burst into a thousand dazzling shards as they glinted off the Ravenclaw goalhoops. The magical megaphone let out a deafening squeak as Amaryllis Hardy tested it out for the match; almost everyone covered their ears to protect them from the terrible noise. The first Quidditch game of the year! It was enough to get even Xiomara excited.
Some time later, they were ready to begin. She had made all her checks, Amaryllis Hardy had finished deafening them all, the commentator had taken up their position and had announced all the players as they emerged from the locker rooms in order (the Slytherin team this year with a slightly smaller, more conventional number of players), the captains had shaken each others’ hands at least without sour expressions notable enough to go in the record books, she had released the Golden Snitch and the two Bludgers, and finally… up, up, into the air she tossed the Quaffle as she blew hard on her whistle to signal the beginning of the match.

“Oh brother...” Gabe said as he sat in his bed and looked right at the wall. He could feel his hands slightly shaking from how nervous he was. “Your being stupid, just relax and everything will be okay.” He muttered as he tried to reassure himself because it didn't look like anyone else was going too. Gabe sat there for a few more minutes as his mind raced, thoughts just littered his head no matter how hard he tried to think clearly. He kept wondering if everyone felt this nervous before the first real game they ever played, he let out a dry laugh as he guessed he was probably the only on going though this on the whole team. “I have tons of time to get ready before the game.” Gabe said to himself as he got out of bed and got ready. Even though it was a couple hour since Gabe said that it only felt like minutes to him. Before he knew it he found himself out by the Quidditch field listening to some pep talk the captain was giving them.
He honestly wasn't paying attention, his mind was more focused on the hundreds of ways he could screw this up. “I could fall off my broom, score in the wrong goal, I could pass the Quaffle to the wrong person...” His mind just kept going even as they made their way to the field. He wished he could just shut his thoughts off for awhile, when ever he got nervous he just couldn't control his thoughts. He could barely hear the announcer or the crowd of people watching as he entered the field over his own thoughts. He stood there and watched as the captains shook hands then watched as Madam Hooch released the Snitch, which he soon lost sight of. It made him glad not to be a seeker as it flew away and the Bludgers came out, his least favorite things about Quidditch. His eyes were suddenly drawn to the Quaffle she now held in her hand, his mind was still counting all the ways he could mess up Gabe had so far counted fifty nine ways he might ruin this game. Gabe couldn't take his eyes away as she threw the Quaffle in the air then Madam Hooch blew her whistle. He suddenly felt a lot less nervous as he knew what he had to do now. Gabe toke off as headed as fast as he could to catch the Quaffle.

One last glance in the mirror was all he needed to be certain he was ready. Pulling on his gloves he made sure they were in place. He was ready. Today was the first game of the year and Slytherin was going to win. No doubt of that. It was a fluke that Gryffindor had won the Cup last year. Not this year. This year they had two new captains on the team and a fairly strong one at that. Moving to the Great Hall, Wynd sat with his teammates. He looked for his sister and gave her a secret smirk. Quidditch was not his true calling but for now it was a good diversion. Professor Hardy was probably worried about favoritism and thus had asked a Hufflepuff to comment on the game instead of Ruby. Favoritism? The other Houses hated Slytherin with a fiery passion. Why shouldn't they? They would never attain the same level of greatness.
With his team, he sauntered over to the pitch. This was Jo's first game as captain and he would be interested to hear her captain pep talk. Bowman was an intelligent girl who with the proper cultivation and molding would be perfect for the Cause. Wynd didn't know her well but imagined that she had a lot of anger caused from her sister's death. He made a mental note to have a one on one talk with her later. Ravenclaw never caused much of a threat and so he was not worried about the looming match. Ravens belonged in a classroom behind a book, not on a broomstick. Watching with calculated silence, Wynd waited while the captains shook hands and Madam Hooch told the teams to mount their brooms. They all rose in the air like performing Hippogriffs and the game began.

For once there weren't a lot of Slytherins vying to play in the game. For once, McCoy could play. This would be fun. He had a lot of anger built up and nothing seemed better than hitting metal balls into moving blue targets. What made it fun and challenging was that the targets moved and not only that but the Bludgers often did not want to go toward the target that they were destined for. McCoy could use some fun. The start of his seventh year had been nothing but boring. He still didn't know what he wanted to do when he got out of school but everyday solidified the idea that he did not want to do what his father did to make a living. Why risk it? Was the gain that much better than the sacrifice? McCoy shook the thoughts from his head as Jo gave her captain talk. She really was a beauty to look at. And so lively too. She never took any of his malarkey. She would make a good captain. McCoy wondered what her lips would feel like pressed against his body as he feigned interest in what she had to say. He followed closely behind her as the team made its way to the pitch admiring her form constrained by the school Quidditch uniform. As he took position he decided. Today he would play the game for her. She was the Seeker. He had to defend her at all costs.

Nervous didn't even begin to describe how August felt at this very moment. He had been thrilled when Theo came to him and asked him to be the vice captain of the team, but now! Now it seemed like a mistake. A huge one. One that he could not take back. Was Theo wise in picking such an inexperienced leader as August? Although he supposed that even Theo had to start somewhere. Standing beside his captain looking out of their team (their team!) August felt his innards trying to make a daring escape. Several times he looked to the nearest exit to see if he could make it before he emptied breakfast before the entire team. Somehow or other he held it together and at last Theo was done. August turned from his captain and friend before he could ask August to say something. Now was not the time for August to be making speeches.
Moving to the pitch the cold crisp air hit his lungs with unexpected force. It seemed as if everything was catching him off guard this morning. He looked to the crowd for encouragement. He wished that Jack would be up there cheering him on but more than likely he was off with his girlfriend doing who knows what. At least Bronsen would be in the stands. Somewhere out there would be Belle. She would be sending him all the support and love that he needed. August took position besides Theo and Gabe and glanced over the Serpents. His eyes landed on the one person he wasn't ready for and they refused to move any further. There he was. Dylan. What would happen this game? After the game? Would they talk? Or would they ignore each other like nothing ever happened? What did happen? Nothing. So why were the moments between them so awkward? Madam Hooch's whistle seemed to come from miles away as the game went into full swing. Before he knew it, Gabe was after the Quaffle and there was only one thing to do.

Post by Josephine Bowman S7 on Sept 22, 2009 15:58:25 GMT
The day was brilliant, blue sky, bright sun, and the perfect weather for a Quidditch game. Everything was going to go just grand! It was the first Quidditch game of the year and that meant Slytherin was facing off again Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw had a tough team last year…of course by the stats Slytherin came in last place and therefore every house had been a ‘tough team’. This year was going to be different though. Josephine Bowman wasn’t about to let her team lose, especially in the first match. They were a strong team, a better team. They weren’t going to go down without a fight. They were going to destroy Ravenclaw, wipe their blood up with a towel. Josephine was a fair captain and she loved her team, loved Quidditch more than she ever thought possible and standing there in the locker room, her first game as the Captain of the Slytherin Team Josephine was ready to give it her one and all, to make sure her team knew just how important this first match was.
“All right. Settle down and bring it in. After the humiliation of last year’s ending game and loss we are finally back. We’ve lost a few good teammates and gained a few more. This is our first game this year, we’re going to fly faster, hit harder, and play smarter. I don’t want to see any deliberate fouls. The last thing we need is Hooch on our cases. Hit them when they least expect it. Don’t let them outthink us! Don’t let them think they have us beat! Remember to play as a team out there. Especially you three Chasers. Work together, coordinate. When one of you has the Quaffle another one of you block for them. Beaters keep a sharp eye out! Attack the Ravenclaw Seeker as much as possible unless you see one of their Chasers with the Quaffle about to score, then let them have it. I want the main focus to be the Seeker however. Adalia keep focused on catching the Quaffle, never let it out of your sight. Constant vigilance. This is the first game; this will set the tone for the rest of the year. So let’s show them that we’re the best out there. Let’s show them what we’re made of, that our blood will get us ahead in any walks of life,” Josephine said in a strong, loud voice. “All right. Let’s get out there!”
Josephine grabbed up her broom, her hands running over the wood as she headed out to the Quidditch pitch with the rest of her team. The roar of the crowd was deafening and Josephine found the adrenalin pump through her veins. They were going to win this game. She just had to find the snitch as soon as possible. Get it over with as fast as possible. Ravenclaw wouldn’t even know what hit them. They were going to win this game. The small smile lifted her lips as she took a quick fly around the stadium of students, teachers, and other observers. Returning to the middle of the pitch she watched as Madam Hooch blew her whistle and threw the Quaffle in the air. Josephine was an immediate blur to the sky taking a quick roll around to look for the snitch. She wasn’t going to get distracted by anything today. That snitch was going to be hers.

Maggie Callan pulled her Quidditch robes on. Her hands stretching as the gloves fit snugly over her fingers. She wanted to make sure she had plenty of flexibility with her fingers. The last thing she wanted was to have her hands restricted when she’d be grabbing for the Quaffle. They were good though. Stretching her whole body she looked over toward her captain as she called the team together. This was it. This was the moment Maggie had waited all summer for. The first Quidditch game and not only that, but also this year she was starting. It was a joyful opportunity. With this kind of responsibility it meant that she a good player, she just had to make everyone else see it. She was going to take down the competition. It was the only thing she could do to prove herself to the rest of her teammates. Maybe if she worked real hard and did a really good job this game she would be able to start the rest of the season. It was all up to her today…and she was determined to make sure things worked in her favor.
The inspiring speech of her captain made her even more eager to play the game, to show everyone out in the stands what they were made of. She grabbed up her broom, her faithful broom and followed the team out. The moment she walked out of the locker room and heard the Slytherin crowd scream with pride Maggie knew she wanted to do this the rest of her life. There wasn’t anything more exhilarating than walking out to a stadium full of people screaming for you. The smile was unstoppable and she had to draw herself back in for a moment as the others took off on their brooms. She followed quickly, her swift and sure movements on her broom giving a taste of how easy this game was going to be for them. Winning was the only option for Slytherin and they were definitely going to win.
Coming to a stop in the center with Madam Hooch she waited off to the side a bit as Wynd got in on the front. He was an attractive guy. She’d always had a bit of a crush on him, but then again most of the male population in Slytherin was attractive. Like Tiernan…their beater. He was a real cutie, but he was also a player and Maggie wasn’t at all attracted to players. They seemed to cause more problems than what they were worth. No she was more attracted to the silent and tall guys. The thought dissipated quickly as the Quaffle flew into the air. Wynd moved for it quickly as did the Ravenclaw Chaser. Maggie wasn’t going to have that. She took off, trying to mark the Ravenclaw Chaser before he could get to the Quaffle.

Theo glanced around at his fresh new team in the changing rooms as they prepared for the first match of the Quidditch season. He was pleased with what he saw: several fit, dedicated and enthusiastic players, all ready to give it their all during this game against Slytherin. Ravenclaw had always been the passive house in terms of rivalry. Hufflepuff was similarly inclined, though Slytherin had a thorough dislike of them, whereas they respected Ravenclaw as a whole, creating less tension between the houses; hence why Theo had always seen his house in a proudly peaceful light (they said Ravenclaws were also intelligent and beautiful, though he paid less attention to those traits). He didn't expect there to be great animosity between the Ravenclaw and Slytherin teams during this match - not as much as when it was Gryffindor versus Slytherin, certainly - but there was no denying Slytherin's cruel ambition, often displayed in their dirty tactics in Quidditch. Theo knew he and his team needed to be wary. This wasn't Oscar's team he was up against, nor was it Finn's; Josephine Bowman wasn't his friend, and he had no doubt she would be a very strong captain, as the only female captain, and the youngest too. He remembered her sister; she had been in Ravenclaw before she had passed away from cancer. A sad tale, and it didn't incline Theo to want to beat Josephine. He was not a particularly competitive individual compared to Oscar and Finn, but he had his pride - house pride, a captain's pride... Head Boy pride. He had the honour of bearing both the titles of Head Boy and Quidditch Captain this year; a privilege he hoped to live up to.
"Listen up, Team." Theo gazed around the room, into each player's eyes, whether they were on the main or reserve team. "Today, we will play hard. We are against Slytherin, and although I do not mean to be stereotypical, they have a reputation for different tactics for a reason. I want clean and fair play from all of you; I know you will all give it your best shot, 110%, but be on the lookout for anything up the Slytherins' sleeves. If anything happens, I expect you to use your heads and be sensible; remain calm and collected, and always focus on your goal - whether it be catching, stealing or scoring with the Quaffle, or hitting Bludgers, or goal-keeping, or searching for the Snitch." He looked at his fellow Chasers first - August, his Vice, and Gabe - then at his Beaters - E and Harley - then Williard, his first time as Keeper, and finally at Devon, his Seeker. They were a young, largely inexperienced team, but Theo had faith in them. "I know most of you are fairly new to this experience," he continued steadily, "but I believe in you, otherwise you would not have made it onto this team. This year, I hope Ravenclaw will surpass our achievements with Celia last year, and become even better, even stronger. Today is both our first match and the first match of the season. Let's give the School a Quidditch match to remember." Nodding at his team, Theo then stuck his hand out. "C'mon, team. All for one and one for all! Cheesy, but nothing beats team spirit," he grinned.
And then they were on the pitch. The weather was fair, thankfully, for poor conditions would've made play much more vicious, which Theo was keen to avoid. After shaking hands friendlily with Josephine, Theo mounted his broom and awaited Madam Hooch's whistle. The moment it shrieked through the air, Theo was flying, as he usually did, towards the Quaffle. However, Gabe got their first, causing Theo to hold back for a moment. His eyes immediately scanned the other Chasers, and he moved towards fellow Prefect Wynd to mark him. A quick Bludger quickly caught his attention, though, and Theo was by Gabe's side in moments. "Bludger!" he yelled, both warning his younger teammate out of great concern for his safety and pushing him away. Hopefully Gabe had the Quaffle by then, because that Bludger had been much too fast, and Theo wasn't sure if E or Harley had got to it in time.
((Warning and shoving Gabe out of the Bludger's way! Also focusing on marking Wynd - because August won't be able to since he will no longer be Chaser.
EDIT: Switching August and Williard around. Apologies, Madam Hooch, but it appears I remembered poor Williard's positions wrong!))

Harley breathed in to cool morning air, letting it fill his lungs and exhaled, calming himself down as he paced. He was excited, Ravenclaw playing the first game of the year, but he wasn't so happy about the opponents-Slytherin. Last year, they were pretty good, sort of. The rankings did them no good, but they played very close games, almost creaming Hufflepuff last year. But luck was on Hufflepuff's side and they caught the snitch before anymore goals were scored on them, or before luck had turned. He looked around, looking at his fellow players before jogging out to the field and rasping his broom. It was smooth and familiar under his grip, giving him a small smile as they were signaled to hover. Hovering felt great to Harley, letting his legs dangle momentarily before getting ready to burst into action. He was already dazing off into his own dream world as the sound of the whistle exploded his thoughts.
Adrenaline took it's part, surging with in him as he gripped his Beater's bat. He looked, Gabe was diving for the Quaffle, along with a Slytherin Chaser. A bludger was hit toward Gabe and Harley scowled, deciding to let a more experienced Beater do the important job of defending, and he raced toward the other free Bludger. He gave it a two handed whack toward the captain of the Slytherins, which happened to also be their vital Seeker, just praying it'd hit. Maybe it's mess with her captaining and seeking skills. He imagined, him being the hero of the match. A smile spread across his face.

There were no words to describe how Dylan felt at the present moment. He didn't exact;y feel like playing Quidditch today, but knew that once he had gotten into it, he would be fine. It would be weird playing without Mary, who had graduated the previous year; the two were quite a team. Dylan even went as far as to give up the position of Vice Captain. But, this was his final year, so he figured there was no sense in giving up Quidditch all together. He might as well stick it out until the very end. Besides, he thought it would be kind of cool to win the Cup this year.....or so he supposed.
There was a lot of fresh blood out here today, and Dylan would have it no other way. Once Madam Hooch blew her whistle, everyone shot up in the air and started doing their jobs. Here we go, he thought. There were a few moves he was considering, but he chose the obvious.

Williard felt kind of sick as he flew towards the goals. He was a Chaser, and Seeker was his second position. He had never played Keeper before in his life and didn't want to because he felt that that position was a lot of responsibility, and that worried him mad. He supposed Seeker was more of a pressured role to play, but he couldn't help but feel like if he let any single goal in then they would automatically lose. But, he was here, right now, in this moment, so he would have to deal. ((Just showing Williards face )

Wynd sneered at the fourth year Raven as he pulled away from the fray with the Quaffle in hand. He was the better Chaser. There would be no way that he would allow the inexperienced Chaser to grab the ball from him. It might have helped that Maggie made an attempt to stop him or that McCoy had sent a Bludger his way but it was mostly skill. Thinking there was no time like the present, Wynd held the Quaffle close to his body as he dashed to the waiting Ravenclaw Keeper. Theo had just switched the Keeper and a Chaser. Either way would make no difference. Sooner or later, Wynd would score.

Williard breathed a sigh of relief as he was told to switch positions with August. He was now a Chaser, where he felt a lot more comfortable, and flew into action. His first game that he had ever played had been awful, and he was somewhat determined to do a lot better today. Dylan smiled as he defended Josephine. Swinging the bat and hitting the Bludger felt really good. He was definitely getting into the game now, and decided that the old tactic of "keeping the Beaters busy" was the best way to go. So, Devon was smack-dab in the middle of Dylan's radar.....which wasn't a very good position to be in. If he kept going for Ravenclaws Seeker and stayed near Jo to protect her, then that would keep their Beaters busy and Slytherins Chasers free to do their job. So Dylan got to work. He flew after the Bludger that Tiernan had hit at Gabe, and with all his might, he swung his bat.

August smiled as he passed Williard in the air. Theo and he had not had much time to prepare for the game and thus put the young Ravenclaw in a position that he was not comfortable. Williard should be able to perform better as Chaser. Meanwhile, August nervousness came rushing back to him like an uncorked waterfall. It seemed like ages since he had last played as Keeper. He couldn't even remember how he had performed in that game it had been so long. But seeing as how he had always wanted to be the main team Keeper he was happy to be flying to the goal. Happy and nervous. It was an odd feeling in the pit of his stomach. No time to dwell on it as one of the Slytherin Chasers was headed straight at him.

Harley first looked toward Gabe, making sure he was alright after E hadn't got to him in time to defend him from the Bludger hurdling toward him. Luckily, he avoided it, quick swerving and flying on his behalf. He then turned his head toward the Slytherin Chaser with the Quaffle and August at the goals. "Get ready...." she whispered under his breath to himself before looking for the Bludgers. There was a bloody Bludger heading toward Devon! He couldn't his Seeker get hit, now could he? E was out of his view, so it was up to him. Harley raced toward Devon and the Bludger. "Devon! Heads up!" he warned, raising his bat and pointing toward the Bludger. He got there and hit the Bludger, deflecting it to the most reasonable target at the moment.

Sadly all of Gabe's expectations for him playing well in this game were dashed as he watched a Slytherin Chaser make off with the Quaffle before Gabe could get to it. He just thought at first it must have been the broom difference between them, Gabe did have a rather old broom. Soon that changed and he just blamed himself for not getting the to Quaffle in time. He did manage to dodge a few Bludgers thanks to the help of Theo the Team captain pushing him out of the way. He eyed the same Slytherin player who had the Quaffle and decided to try and make an opening for someone to steal the Quaffle.

Josephine could tell that the game was going to be intense. Ravenclaw was ready to play at the best level they could, but Jo also knew that Slytherin was willing to play at their best. The first concern she had though was the face that Sierra seemed to be dazed or out of it. There was no time for people that weren't going to be in the game. She moved quickly to fly by Madam Hooch. "I'm subbing Stephen Donahue in for Sierra Greene," Jo shouted out to Madam Hooch. That would keep the game going. As long as someone was in actually trying to stop the Ravenclaw team it was going to be fine. Stephen would know how to handle things...just so long as he kept it within reason.
As soon as she shouted out the substitution to Madam Hooch she quickly turned around and headed back into the sky her eyes already searching the sky. There was no reason for the game to take forever. She was going to find that snitch as early as possible and get the game over with. Ravenclaw wouldn't even know what hit them.

Maggie followed after Wynd as he caught the Quaffle. She was ecstatic that he had managed to gain control of it in the first toss up, but the Ravenclaw Chasers were on his tail and she had to do something. She saw the two Chasers move in on him, one attempting to steal, the other trying to mark him so he couldn't score. Well that wasn't going to happen. "Wynd hold tight to the Quaffle! You have a leech on your back!" Maggie called to him, trying to warn him about Williard as she turned her attention to the other Ravenclaw Chaser, her body moving quickly to try to block him from getting to Wynd.
