Jack grinned at Mack.
"You know, you're right! That father of mine will be put through hell because of me!" Jack smirked at the thought. His father had always put Jack through hell, but now it was Jack's turn. How could he have been that dumb witted! That stupid not to notice how much power he had over his father. Mack had been the one to tell him, and he had just met her a few days ago in the corridorr. It was almost a relief to talk about it to someone who could understand people. Mack could understand him in a way. In a way.
Suddenly, Jack was pulled up from the ground and dragged of to a type of club that was playing music. Loud music. Jack's kind of music. He was pulled inside by Mack, who instantly started dancing. There were lots of people in here, all of them were dancing. Jack smiled a little, he liked to dance. Mack seemed to like to dance too. Or maybe the firewhiskey still hadn't washed off yet. The thought became reality as Mack threw her hands around him.
"Are you sure you're ok? I don't think that drink has washed off yet, 'cause if you hadn't noticed, you're dancing with me!" Jack yelled over the music. The music pounded through his ears, willing him to dance. So he did. He listened to what Mack had to say. It all seemed real and right. If anyone would know, Mack would.
"I think you're right Mack!" He hollered over the music. "I just have to get that through my thick head!" He didn't bother to add that he was having more fun with Mack than with anyone else.

Mack laughed, "Jack if there is one thing you can know about me,, it's that I always do the things I mean to! If I wasn't aware that I was dancing with you, then I wouldn't be! I am dancing with you because I want to!" She screamed over the music. She continued to sway her hips, and her arms still around Jack's neck. She continued to dance and then she smiled.
"You know, you're a pretty good dancer! I think I'm having a good time for once!" Mack called over the music. She smiled and twirled around and clapped her hands to the beat.

Jack grinned, still dancing to the music. The trick to dancing, at least to Jack, was to lose all self-conscience and be yourself. Jack was finding that hard to do with Mack holding on to him. Jack had fallen for a couple girls before but they had never danced. Lots of girl had fallen for Jack, but he would only pay attention to them if they were worthwhile. Mack and him weren't like that, were they? We are friends, Jack thought. Or..... He didn't know. He would have to think about it when Mack wasn't around.
"Thanks, but you're a far better dancer than I am!" Jack yelled back to her. He thought for a second, thinking about what Mack had said. She said people out of their house shouldn't be together with other houses. But, wasn't she with a Ravenclaw. Jack, at first, thought it better not to ask, but, as always, curiousity got the better of him.
"Mack, what you just said doesn't make any sense! Are you having second thoughts?" Jack screamed over the music. He was just teasing her, he didn't want to hurt her feelings or anything. He was almost positive that Mack was still with the Ravenclaw. Maybe she was giving him advice, but she wouldn't be listening to her own advice, would she? Jack shook his head and then looked at Mack, his bright blue eyes shimmering. He hoped she would know that Jack was just joking about his last comment.

Mack looked at Jack and did a quick back flip, "Hmm...you're right. I am a better dancer than you are." Mack told him in a joking tone of voice. She smiled playfully and did another twirl before continuing to dance. She listened to Jack yell over the music, and though she was sure he was just joking she figured she would answer him anyway.
"To be honest! I never had a first thought! I never loved Tristan. He loved me! And although it felt good to be loved, I could never love him back!" She yelled over the music. Waiting for his next response. Could this relationship end up being something more than a friend one or would they just be close friends?

Jack watched Mack as she did a sudden backflip. He laughed; she was right, she was a much better dancer than he.
"I could never do that! And if I tried, I would either hurt you or myself!" He screamed yet again. His voice was starting to get hoarse, he would need a drink soon. Mack's next resposnse was surprising; Jack looked at Mack closely, as if to make sure she wasn't just saying something. He felt bad that Mack hadn't gotten the love that she needed so badly. Jack didn't get much love either, and he didn't mind much. He had never experienced true love, so he had no longing for it.
"So, is he still after you?" Jack asked, half laughing half shouting. "It's a sad thing that people are so attached to Slytherins even though we're nasty to them!" Jack wasn't sure if what he said was even true or not. Sometimes, people seemed attached to him because of his attitude, but some people just avoided him. He wondered if it was the same way with Mack.

Mack cupped her hand around her ear so she could hear Jack better and clearer, but it didn't help. So she grabbed his hand and made her way through the crowd to an empty room. These rooms were usually used for private parties, but right now this room wasn't occupied. So Mack opened the door and pulled Jack in with her before closing the door and sighing. She rubbed her temples and walked over to the mini-fridge, of course it was magical so it automatically refilled when she took out two butterbeers. She plopped down on the butterfly chair, sweat rolling down her temples and looked at Jack with a tilt of her head. She then lowered her head and looked at her hands which were starting to shake, "I don't know. All I know is that he fell for me...hard. And all we did was kiss, and talk. I mean, there was no official date or anything. I mean one moment I was arguing with an older Slytherin and the next I have a boyfriend? No. That's no where near right." Mack answered slowly, adding her own attitude to her words.
She uncapped the butterbeer and took a long swig from it, letting it refresh her throat. She breathed in and continued to think. She didn't feel anything large for Tristan. Maybe he was just there for comfort, "I couldn't love Tristan for plenty of reasons. A) He's a Ravenclaw. B) I am pretty sure he isn't pureblooded. C) He's not my type. and D) I don't know how to love." Mack muttered the last reason rather quietly. She hated admitted things she couldn't do. Then she laughed and said, "And I think, because I can be really sweet and since I'm so darn peppy!" At this she gave a fake head shake and a cheesy smile, "People are attracted to me. That or I just scare the living daylights out of them so they have to like me."

Jack let himself be dragged away yet again to a empty room. He sat down heavily, sweat pouring from his brown hair which probably looked like a sloppy mess. He watched hungerly (Or should I say thirstily) as Mack took out two butterbeers. He took it and took a huge gulp drinking almost half of the tankard. It tasted great, although something cooler would have been more welcome. He stopped his drinking and glanced over at Mack. He noticed her hands were shaking.
"You alright?" He asked her quietly. He was afraid she might break down, but to his great relief, she didn't. He listened to her reasons with making a sound. After she was done he finally spoke.
"So, you only like people like yourself?" Jack said, still not talking very loudly. "I think you could have like Tristan if it hadn't gone by so quick. It takes time, I think. For me, I have to think a while before I make a commitment...." Jack trailed off, this day seemed to be going by quickly, to quick for his liking. He took another sip from his butterbeer and then asked Mack a question that he had been wondering for a while.
"Do you feel alone?" Jack paused. "If you do, you must know that you are not. You are not alone." Jack didn't add on that he was saying that he was there for her. He had a feeling way deep down that he wanted this relationship to go farther, but he wasn't sure if Mack could handle it. He didn't want to hurt her. So, he was just trying to keep things friendly.

"No. I like people who are compatible with me. Like; you for instance. I like you Jack. Just not to the point where Tristan liked me. You're a cool person, plus you understand me; bonus points!" Mack replied to his question about her only liking people like her. She smiled genuinly and brushed some hair out of her eyes, although it was wet it was still unruly. She then listened to him ask her if she was alone. Mack tilted her head at this, thinking sincerely on that subject.
"Sometimes. I can be surrounded by a sea of people, and yet be totally and utterly alone. There are those who care about me, sure, but they don't take their time to see what's really in my heart and my eyes. They look at me, see a semi-sincere smile and think 'oh, she's happy!' when in reality, I am so far from it I could die." Mack answered that with a slow and quiet voice. Then she disected his last sentence, and looked up at him, her right eyebrow cocking towards the ceiling, "Are you telling me that you're there for me Jack?" She asked in an amazement type of voice.

Jack listened to what Mack had to say. He nodded at her comments about him as a thanks, but otherwise, he didn't say anything. When she started talking about how she felt, being alone and everything, Jack tried to listen to everything. For some reason, he couldn't understand how Mack thought she was all alone when she was surrounded by people.
"I'm afraid I can't understand that part about being alone. I guess it's because I'm never really alone, and when I feel alone, I go to people I know to help me out of whatever situation I am in." Jack looked down when Mack asked if he was the one that was there for her and pretended to blush.
"Yeah, that's what I mean. The problem is, I'm not going to be babysitting anyone...." Jack said while grinning.

Mack stood up from the butterfly chair and looked up at Jack, trying to think of a way to try and explain it to him. She sighed and cocked her head to the right, her eyes searching for an answer somewhere in her mind. Finally it came to her; "Even when you have a million people around you, and they are nice to you and talking to you. Then you go home, and you sit in your room and just, wait and try to understand what you are doing with them. Why they are nice to you, what do they want? That's what being alone is. Usually only one person could actually see how lonely that is, and that person is usually the one who is lonely." Mack tried to explain it to him as best as she could. And hse had a feeling that she wasn't doing so hot. Mack bit her lip and breathed in deeply. Then she commented on his babysitting remark. Mack got on the floor and put her thumb in her mouth, "Goo goo gah gah." she said in her baby voice, not being that clear because of the thumb in her mouth.

Jack cocked his head like a little puppy dog, trying to understand Mack's explaination. It still sounded a bit confusing. Jack sometimes felt alone, but he always did something to keep his mood off of whatever it was that was making him feel horrid. He looked at Mack as she sat down on the floor and acted like a baby. He stayed seated, and then asked in a voice that sounded just like the bartender at the Three Broomsticks.
"Would you like some milk with that? Or would you perfer some firewhiskey?" He cleared his throat. "I'm afraid it's not normal for a baby to have firewhiskey. But then again, you aren't normal are you?" Jack asked, his eyes sparkling.

Mack took her thumb out of her mouth and shook her head in amusement. She stood up and brushed herself off before sitting back in the butterfly chair. She ran her fingers through her blonde hair, trying to make it look at least half-decent. Mack was having a good time, and she dare not think about how the next day she would have to deal with Tristan and the rumors and her family. She wanted to stay focused on this night and she wanted to make sure she had the best time she could have in a long time. Mack looked to Jack then said in a thoughtful voice, "Your father's not going to like you hanging out with me, much. Is he? I mean, if I were befriending me, my parents would have my head chopped off." Mack tried to make a joke out of it but didn't do too well with it.
Mack had barely any friends because of her family, and she wouldn't be too surprised if Jack was forbidden to see her. In fact, the only Holden that was well known was Dix and that wasn't all the time good. She was known for her...many services in many different ways. The only thing that was the same about them is that they were both talented in singing. Mack having been in a choir for 2 years, and Dix having won a singing competition. She closed her eyes and thought of those days, then she smiled, "And no..I'm not normal. Never have been."

Jack grinned as Mack sat back down in her chair. The thought of his father wipped the smile right of his face. He didn't want to think about that man, not right now anyway.
"It's alright. I'm sure he won't mind. And, even if he does, that doesn't mean he can't stop me!" Jack said, trying to convince himself as much as Mack. Jack happened to be frightened of his father. He would always fight back, but his father would always fight back harder. Jack even had some scars on his back from his father when his anger had got the best of him. It had taken a while for Jack to learn that he had to listen to his father. His father was always saying that Jack should learn where his loyalties lie, and if his father found out Jack had been with Mack and the mudblood, Bee, he could be adding some new scars to his collection. It didn't help that Jack's father called Jack a deamon from Hell. It just made Jack even worse off.
He brushed his hair out of his eyes and smiled at Mack's comment about not being normal.
"If you were normal, this wouldn't be as fun as it is!" Jack said, grinning broadly.

"If I were normal, I wouldn't have had to take self-defense for years on end. And if I were normal, I wouldn't offer to teach you self-defense." Mack told him with a sly smile and a twinkle in her eyes. Mack was a weird person, she did things in mysterious ways, and she always meant what she said and always said what she meant. So now as she looked at Jack with a sly and devious smile on her lips, she was proposing a self-defense lesson....just in case something happened.

Jack was a little surprised by Mack's question. Why self-defense? It seemed strange to Jack, but he went on with it.
"Sure, I don't see why not..." Jack mumbled, looking around the room, wondering what they would do. "What kind of defense lesson?" He asked curiously.

"Any." Mack said with a shrug, "Unless you would rather learn ballet, I'm willing to teach you that too. I am just better at martial arts than I am dance." She told him with that smile that said she was being modest. She opened a bottle of water and took a drink of that as she continued to think, "I think it would be best if, I taught you tae kwon do. Not quite sure yet. I have to make sure you can do all the flips and stuff. So maybe cheerleading would be much more appropriate." She told him with a laughing glance.

Jack started laughing at the thought of him doing ballet. He knew a bit about martial arts, but he never really got into it. It looked like he would have to now though. He walked to the fridge and got some water, which he drank deeply. He laughed again about doing cheerleading.
"I think I can survive without cheerleading." Jack said as he took another drink of water. "That firewhiskey wore of I hope?" Jack asked. He was just teasing her, but it wouldn't be to comfortable doing flips near someone who had just gotten drunk.

Mack smiled into her bottle, "Aw. Spoil my fun. I was going ot have fun watching you do a little cheer for me." She told him in a pretend upset voice. She pouted and recapped her water bottle. When he asked her if the firewhiskey had worn off she nodded.
"Amazing thing, firewhiskey. It's not like muggle alcohol. It wears off in an hour or so. Well, actually, it depends on how much you drink." She smiled and hopped up, stretching so she could do a proper front flip.

Jack smiled, "In your dreams." He said sarcastically. Jack would never preform a cheer, even for Mack. He grinned and jumped out of his chair, backing away from Mack.
"I better stay away from you then!" Jack said, in a fake scared voice. "You might just hit me!" Then he thought about what Mack said about muggle drinks.
"Muggle drinks last longer then? I thought they would be, like, water or something. I thougth firewhiskey was the strongest...." Jack said, breaking off. If he wanted to learn this stuff, he should have gone to Muggle Studies.

Mack waved her hand, "I don't dream." She said, finishing the wave. As if she were dismissing the topic. She raised her arms above the air and did a quick aerial. She finished perfectly, her arms tucked around her stomach. Mack smiled as she stood up and ran her fingers through her hair, trying to matt down the mess.
"Most muggle drinks last longer, but you see; unlike muggles, wizards have this thing called magic. You should know what that is. The drink won't have the effect on young adults or underage drinkers like it does on the adults and people of drinking age." She explained. Mack took a drink of her water and looked at Jack.
"Alright, you saw what I did. Now you do." She instructed, a cruel yet enjoyable smile on her face.
