Within a couple of minutes several hands were up in the air. "Yes, Miss Coran, Miss Driscoll and Miss Tunstall. Please tell us one way in which you can destroy a vampire."

Ivy was glad when Professor Vector called on her and she could put her hand down so as not to draw so much attention to herself. She had to give one way to kill, no, destroy - as the Professor's words had been - a vampire. Ivy scanned the text to select a way. Truth be told, she didn't much like all this talk of killing - destroying - things, be they undead or dead or living. Whatever undead might be. You were still taking the life - no, well whatever it was - of somebody or something. Not that Ivy hadn't squashed a mosquito before, that didn't much bother her. It bothered her more that they might try to eat her. Then again, vampires probably tried to eat you. But Ivy had never come across a vampire, and she'd come across plenty of mosquitos. It just seemed... weren't vampires so much more human than mosquitos?
Ivy shook her head to clear it of all the useless thoughts, and concentrated on the text to make sure she had got what she was going to say right before she said it. "Um..." she started, as usual a weak start in front of a whole class, "vampires can be destroyed if they are exposed to direct sunlight for too long a period of time, usually about fifteen minutes but it could be longer." Ivy felt it was a bit of a useless answer. The textbook put it so much better. Then again, they might as well be asked questions to show they'd actually read the textbook rather than just staring at it blankly. Ivy went back to staring at the textbook blankly. She really didn't want to be noticed by her. Charles Driscoll was sitting in front of the girl. Ivy gave him a small smile before looking back to Professor Vector and down again at her textbook.

Dana smiled when she was called upon. Ms. Tunstall – It was weird thinking of someone younger than her by her last name - started answering first and Dana let her finish while listening to her point. When she had finished Dana continued picking up where she had stopped calmly: “The surest and quickest way to kill a vampire is to put some sharp object through it’s heart. Contrary to popular belief the object does not have to be a wooden stake, any object strong and sharp enough to reach the vampires heart will do the trick. Vampires aren’t able to live through decapitation either.”
Dana let her voice die off as she had finished with the way to kill a vampire and smiled at Nasser – today was not going to be her day. First head-ache, then vampires. She could always take the best out of it still. Besides she could bother Nasser later, when the class was over. That would probably improve her mood, so Dana’s smile brightened a bit before she turned back to the class.

Samantha waited for the other two students to give their answers, not that they gave her a chance to speak first, one blurted out her answer with some difficulty because she was shy, a thing which Samantha could not understand and made her look at the third year with disdain. She realised who she was and would have given her another evil look if they been under Professor's eye, so she waited till the Ravenclaw had finished speaking and then spoke in her well-bred arrogant voice. "The two methods just described are the two extremes, that is to say, one of them is the most quick and effective and the other is one which requires much more time to give the same result. The third method lies in between both, and it involves immersing or subjecting the vampire to a considerable amount of water. A simple Watering Charm would not be sufficient as the whole vampire must be completely drenched with water, which is the disadvantage of this method," she stated.

Juliette listened to the various answers, all were correct. "Very good, 10 points for each of you." She then walked around the room. "Now then, if you should run into a vampire, most likely you will not have water to dowse the vampire with, nor will you have a stake or another object to spear them in the heart or a blade to decapitate. You will have your wands though, something far more powerful than the previously mentioned items." Juliette removed her wand out of her pocket and held it up. "The wand in the hands of a trained witch or wizard is a powerful tool. Now think, what spells do you think would be useful in an encounter with a vampire?"

Professor Vector asked what to do when you encounter a vampire. A chuckle escaped Dana’s lips as the first idea flashed through her mind. “Couldn’t I just throw my want at the vampire and run screaming for help on top of my lungs?” Dana asked Nasser with a whisper. She doubted that Vector would like that answer, but Dana had never been overly brave. Dana concentrated on the assignment none the less. What would stop an overly-strong best from draining your blood? A blood-group the vampire doesn’t like?
Dana scribbled some random spells that she recalled on a piece of paper but she really didn’t have much fate in most of them. Unless… Dana grinned and scribbled down a row of events caused by the previous one. A quick charm and Dana’s quill was drawing animated pictures on a spare piece of parchment. She gets attacked by a vampire. She runs and screams. Vampire follows. She stops running. She transfigures vampire into a fluffy chinchilla. She goes home in muggle London. Vampire turns back in muggle-London. The vampire starts a rock’n’roll band and gets a TV show for himself to kill all of London. She kills the vampire while on air with the help of some superhero. Magic is revealed to all muggles. She blames aliens to have possessed her. She is taken to Area 51. Magic will be revealed to muggles. She is captured by MoM. She is taken to Azkaban. Azkaban robes won’t look nice on her and she breaks a nail. Dana tilted her head as she watched the animated pictures and couldn’t suppress a grin. That was rather intriguing way things could go. Except for the Azkaban part. Folding the paper Dana pushed it to the further edge of the table and thought. Well, there would be a way…
Looking around Dana saw that o one had raised their hands yet, so tentatively she did it herself, raising her hand to signalize the professor that she might have some clue on how to react to being attacked by a piece of foul raggedy snot-encrusted debris. Also known as a vampire usually. And Dana had never liked vampires as she stated in her head once again.

Jordan had showed up for Defense Against the Dark Arts, as usual, considering she was looking into the career of becoming a DADA professor. She was just unnaturally quiet for this class. Taking notes and such. Questions were asked, and Jordan would write them down neatly, then write down her answer- and the answers the others gave.
After she read the required pages, she took some more notes. Jordan looked around after Professor Vector asked another question. She looked up and raised her hand slowly, pretty sure she knew one spell she could use against a vampire. All you had to do was think of what a vampire disliked, or how they died- and there you go, associate the thing to a spell.

Catalina read the book pages she was assigned and took down some notes on the various traits of vampires and how one could destroy them. Now the question turned to what one would do if they encountered a real vampire. Running it over in her mind she thought up a couple of spells that could be useful, though she doubted she'd ever run into a vampire. Still, she raised her hand and waited to be called on.

Robin didn't know Professor Vector at all since he didn’t take Arithmancy, the subject that had the reputation of being the hardest subject taught at Hogwarts which meant he had avoided taking it. He hadn’t known back then what he wanted to do with his life but he knew he certainly didn't want to spend it pondering over problems that seemed impossible to solve. He wondered what she would be like teaching defence. He leaned back into his chair reading the sections she asked them to, finding the topic quite interesting. He wondered what it would be like to meet a real vampire. Were they really as gruesome as the pictures in the textbook?
Robin thought about the professor's question. What indeed could they do with their wands in the face of a vampire? He couldn't think of anything himself although three other students had already raised their hands. He wondered if Impedimenta or Expoximise Plancher worked on vampires. Maybe that would give you enough time to stab them with your wand if you managed to slow them down or stop them from moving? Was a wand even sharp enough? No, there had to be something easier. He waited for the professor to call on any of the students who had their hands up, interested in hearing what they had to say.

"Yes, Miss Coran, Lehane and Cavales, please tell us some spells you believe would work well against a vampire. And I do hope the rest of you are paying attention, this is important should you ever come across a real vampire some day."

This class was a joke, but then most of their classes were. Apparently Hogwart's joke of a headmaster thought it fit to hire the completely incompetent to teach the future of the wizarding world. At least it provided little strain on the mind, and allowed her attention to wander. Today, the pressing topic at hand was the task she had been sent to do. Luckily, the boy had too little intelligence to know what was coming. He was lucky, but apparently luck to up the majority of space in his cranium, leaving limited room for actually thought. It was making her job easy, sitting right behind her like this. She had decided long before to make it subtle, after all there may be work for her in the future and she had no intention of blowing her cover now.
She withdrew her wand from the folds in her robes, and whispered a charm, levitating the scroll she had brought to class. It drifted behind her, under the desk, and landed squarely on Potters lap, the liquid hidden inside spilling out.

Dana was one of the people being called on. The idea of running still seemed best for Dana, but she shrugged it off and tried to answer with something that might work a bit better. “Considering my own magical abilities I wouldn’t be able to turn the vampire into a fluffy little bunny. But I could use Petrificus Totalus or Incarcerous to slow the vampire down a bit and then either transfigure something into a stake or use ‘Ferule’ to conjure a wooden rod and put the stake through the vampires heart. Preferably with a spell to make sure it doesn’t miss. Punching a stake into someone’s heart is physically hard also,” Dana stated following her train of thought. It wasn’t really the use of one spell, but it might work. And it was the outcome that mattered. As she didn’t have anything else to add, Dana tilted her head to listen to other replies and then see what the professor would think of them. Or maybe she would tell them to handle the vampire at some other completely unique way. But how to react woudl largely depend on where you'd run into a vampire, so there wasn't a way that would always get you out of trouble.

Jordan listened to Dana's explanation and smiled as it was her turn, "Well- vampires don't like sunlight, nor fire. So a simple Lumos Solem or Incendio would do the trick. Or you could do what Dana said, and transfigure something to be a wooden stake. Of course there are many other spells in the category of fire that could kill a vampire." She answered with a look around the room. Sometimes Jordan hated speaking up in public, but after all she had known the answer.

Catalina listened to the other answers and then it was her turn. "I t'ink t'at ye can use lots of te charms t'at we use in te dueling club. T'ey won't destroy te' vamp'r but t'ey will give ye te time ter t'ink of ot'ers spells ter use. Ye can use Pousikus, Flippendo, Insidio, Locomotor mortis, Florikus, and Reducto ter knock te vamp'r ov'r or ter slow t'em down. T'en ye can run away of ye can try ter use te other magic ter kill, er, destroy te vamp'r."

While she listened to the answers a floating scroll caught her attention, she keenly watched as it went from one desk to another. "10 points from Slytherin, you may all thank Miss Yakov for passing notes." With her wand, Juliette lifted the parchment from Harry's desk and whisked it across the room into the trash bin. "Now then, Miss Coran, Lehane and Cavales gave us good answers, each of you take 10 points for your house. The rest of you, your homework is to write an essay on vampires, including the characteristics, weaknesses and any forms of magic that can be used to defeat them."
While the students copied down their homework assignment, Juliette patiently waited until most had finished. "Now then, for those of you who wish to continue your studies of vampires, please follow me. Mind you this will be a bit intense, so those of you who don't feel up to it may simply go to the library and begin working on your homework. The rest of you, follow me." She then walked out of the classroom and down the hallway. Up one flight of stairs and down another hallway until they reached an old classroom that was rarely used. Pushing open the door she entered the dimly lit room that was occupied by dozens of chairs, and large trunks.
Off to the side of the room by the windows stood two large men and a slender woman, who were all wearing crimson colored robes. The woman nodded her head as the students entered but said nothing. Instead she motioned to the two other men who walked to the far side of the room and began to drag two large trunks towards the middle of the room. As they dragged the trunks, a distinct hissing sound seemed to be coming from inside the trunks.
"Please sit down" Professor Vector said as she shut the door behind the last student. "This is Anastasia Brouska, of the Transylvanian Council for Vampire Control. She's graciously taken time out of her busy schedule to come and give you further instruction on vampires."
(( Please send your homework to me via Instant Message. Homework is due Monday July 6th, 5PM Pacific time. Students who don't wish to continue with this part of the class can leave, you won't be in trouble.))

Jordan wrote down the homework in her planner and smiled. She gathered her bag and was about to get up to leave, but Professor Vector said something else. Jordan looked up at the professor and ran her fingers through her hair. She sighed and crossed her arms before following the professor into the new room. It was dark and it took awhile for Jordan's eyes to become accustomed. She took a seat in one of the many chairs and waited.

The students all gave good answers, some of them saying the ideas that he had been thinking of. He copied down the homework quickly excited when he heard what Professor Vector had in store for them. He raised his eyebrows and followed Professor into the next classroom. This was something he certainly didn't want to miss. A real vampire? He wondered what exactly that would be like, and what exactly she expected them to do. He took the seat next to Jordan in the classroom they had moved to, giving her a wink as he sat down.

Aden sighed in boredom. It was looking like clas was going to be a good napping period. Aden listened to the questions the Professor was asking and smirked. They were all easy questions that a brainless monkey could answer. When told to read a certain page from their books Aden merely skimmed through the information. He didn't have to read the page to get the information. He noticed the Professor catch something with her eyes and he turned to see what it was.
Aden saw the scroll drop into Wonder kid's lap. Professor Vector took points from Slytherin and made a coment about Danika passing notes. Danika Yakov passing notes to Harry Potter? thought Aden. Aden glanced at Danika with a raised eyebrow and than turned back to the Professor.
Aden's Curiousity got the better of him and he stood and followed the Professor into the room. Aden looked at the chest as a hissing sound came from within and it didn't much knowledge to guess what was inside it. He took a seat.

Anastasia nodded slightly as the students entered the room. "Quiet!" She said as she took out her wand. "Iz you hearing that noiz? Iz vampire. The vampire iz drive by need to feed, nothing elz. You know magic to fight vampire? Ve here to tez you magic. Ve have in ze boxes vampires. Zom are human vampire, no strong, iz new vampires but zey can still hurt you if you not careful. Ve also have zom animal vampire, vampire cat and vampire dog. Zey veak, but can hurt too if you play around..." She stopped and looked at two students who were talking. "NO TALKING!" She yelled at the pair which was followed by more hissing from the boxes.
"You, black hair girl with yellow animal on robe, come up here." She said pointing at Jordan and then the center of the room. Once Jordan was standing where she ought to be she continued. "Ve start with the vampire cat, you know magic to use girl? Good! Igor! relez ze cat."
One of the men waved a wand and a trunk opened. Slowly a pale white cat crept out and sniffed the air. Looking straight ahead at Jordan, the cat approached her hissing, then ran and jumped at Jordan!

Jordan smiled at Robin and looked to the front of the room. Anastasia' Brouska's Transylvanian accent was hard to follow- but after a bit, Jordan could understand the vampire perfectly. Jordan nearly jumped, however, when she pointed to her and ordered her to go up front. Jordan breathed in sharply and stood- I did this why? Because you want to be a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor that's why.
"Right, okay, simple. Only a cat. Just a cat." Jordan whispered as she pointed her wand at the white cat. Even though it was only a cat, it still looked deadly and Jordan wasn't going to let it get a piece of her. She would rather much stun the cat- but for some reason she didn't think that was going to suffice, "I'm sorry Kitty." She whispered before speaking up and saying firmly, "Incendio." Fire flickered from her wand and shot at the cat, but the cat ran! Jordan cursed under her breath and tried again. This time hitting the cat. She looked at Anastasia Brouska and tried to smile, "Sorry about the cat." She said apologetically.
