Juliette Vector's classroom was on the 2nd floor near a stairwell to the Great Hall. Though it was quite a busy walkway, enough charms had been placed on the door and walls to dampen the sound. This was a necessity for such a subject as Arithmancy which required precise calculations. Today however there would be no calculations. Instead Juliette was charged with covering a D.A.D.A. lesson, a subject she was quite fascinated with. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was spotless and always soft as a feather. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned swivel chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was lined with cabinets that were all locked. The back wall contained two large windows that let ample amounts of sunlight in the area, also by the windows sat four pale blue couches. Under the windows sat a small cabinet that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games. To Juliette a good classroom was one that students enjoyed coming to, she did her best to make sure that her class was comfortable enough for students to do their best work, though foolishness was quickly dealt with and the offender soon found that they no longer had any privileges in the class. When not teaching a class, Juliette would allow any student who so desired to come to her room to study, relax or simply talk and hang out. Today was no exception as a pair of Hufflepuffs had set up shop on the couches and were busily engulfed in a game of wizard's chess.
As Juliette sat at her desk in the front of the room she went over the roster of students she would be seeing very soon. Flipping through her lesson for today, it would be a fairly entertaining one she thought. Glancing at her watch, there was just a few minutes until the class would begin. "Mister Patterson, Miss Jennings, class is about to start, you may return later if you wish." The pair of Hufflepuffs then got up and waved goodbye before leaving the classroom. Now in silence, Juliette awaited the arrival of the students to begin the class.
(( This IS a classroom and as such, I expect there to be minimal side conversations! ))

Jack walked quickly out of the boy's dorm and out of the common room. He only had a few minutes to get to D.A.D.A. and if he was late...he didn't want Vector angry. He paused and picked up his bag, slung it over his shoulder, and continued on his way. He didn't have to go that far. The dungeons to the second floor would only take a few moments, but Jack didn't want to waste any time. He hurriedly passed through a group of Ravens, all of whom scattered away from him, and climbed a few flights of stairs.
He soon reached the door to the D.A.D.A. classroom and he listened for a second, wondering if anyone was in there yet. No sound came from the classroom, so he opened the door and stepped inside. Professor Vector's room was one of the best classrooms in the school. Jack liked the carpet the best, all ways clean. He sat down in a chair that was in the middle of the classroom and let his bag sink onto the ground. He pulled out the needed books for class and looked up at Vector. He nodded as a hello and turned half-way in his seat so he could see the door. Jack always felt a bit uncomfortable being all alone in a classroom with just the Professor as company.

Bee walked toward the classroom in a rush. I'm going to be late! I'm gong to be late! Her wrist-watch struck the time she was supposed to be in class, but no bell rang. She stopped, shrugged, and then continued on her way to class. Her clock must be ahead by a few minutes...or seconds. She started walking even faster, as fast as she could go without breaking into a run. She was almost there; so close.
She opened the door quickly and walked inside. There was only one student in class, Jack. Bee couldn't help but grimace, she didn't want to sit by Jack. She moved into the front row and sat down, careful to avoid Jack's eyes. She put her back on the ground and got out the necessary materials she would need. She laid her wand on her desk and smiled at the Professor. "Hello, Professor," she said pleasantly, while looking straight ahead so she wouldn't see Jack.

Millicent slumped down in her seat at the first table in the Great Hall. Her back to the wall she surveyed the goings on of the other houses with amusement. It was no wonder the Slytherins were put at the first table; save them from having to walk past the foolish children, and it allowed them to put their backs to the wall so as to prevent some Gryffindor in search of attention, as per usual, from sending a jinx at their backs. 'Gryffindors' she thought 'small wonder they are at the final table. Least worthy to be in this school. Pompous, attention starved, mudblood loving, freaks, with inferiority complexes.' She brought her food to her mouth as she watched a pair of Ravenclaws apparently gossiping, a Hufflepuff girl batting her eyes at a Gryffindor boy, and him not even notice her.
Soon though the meal ended and people began to file out of the hall, Millicent included. D.A.D.A. next period, should be amusing enough. She walked in without a noticeable glance around. Her face remained apathetic as she took a seat third row from the back on the very left. Out of her robes came her wand while she removed a piece of parchment, a quill, some ink, and her D.A.D.A. NEWTs textbook from her bag. The only people in the room so far were the professor, a young Slytherin she didn't know and had no intention of meeting, and a young Gryff she definitely never wanted to speak to. Therefore to pass the time until either someone worthy of attention came in or class started Millicent began to play with her quill in a rather absent way.

Osiris had been having a nice meal till he heard someone say "Defense against the Dark Arts" right then he remembered he had to get to class. He ate the last bit of his apple and then ran off. His bag making him slower with all the weight. Half way to class he was tripped by some slytherin. He didn't feel like being late because of this punk so he just got up from the ground and turned to look at him. His eyes just said what he didn't feel like saying. "Leave me alone." Was all Osiris said. Osiris could hear the slytherin mocking him as he ran off but he had the last laugh. Peeves was going after him again but scared the slytherin kid half to death.
As soon as he got to the door he stopped running. He opened the door and saw Bee then later jack also and an older Slytherin girl playing with her quill. He was about to walk over to Bee but she was just looking straight ahead. He had seen the same look on other people trying to ignore something so he decided to sit a few rows back in and empty row. He put his head on his arms resting from the run he just did.

Savannah walked down the steps from the Ravenclaw tower towards the 2nd floor. Slowly she went allowing several other students to quickly pass her up, she was in no real hurry as she had a good 15 minutes until class was to start. Upon reaching the 2nd floor, she peered down the hallway in both directions, and seeing only students, Savannah reached into her bag and took out her miniature sized skateboard. With a quick swish of her wand, the skateboard grew to it's normal size and Savannah dropped it to the floor.
In no time, she was zipping down the hallway building up speed as she skated past many of the students whom she'd let pass her on the steps. Further down the hallway she saw a vacant bench and sped off in the direction of the bench. As she drew near she bent down and then used her momentum to jump up and land on the bench for less than a second before she jumped up off the bench and grabbed the side of her skateboard quickly before she landed on the tile floor.
"You're not supposed to be doing that" came a condescending voice of someone off to the side of Savannah. Stopping her board suddenly, Savannah spun round to see a younger Gryffindor girl standing there watching her. She didn't know this little girl, nor did she really want to get to know her with that sort of an attitude, instead Savannah simply stared her down until the girl turned and walked away muttering about how she was going to be in trouble.
Once the girl had left, Savannah skated down the remainder of the hallway until she was about 100 feet from the classroom. Tapping her board with her wand, it once more shrank itself to it's miniature state and was soon resting comfortable inside Savannah's bag as she walked into the classroom. Several people were in class so far, but no one she really wanted to talk to, of course there weren't many that she would talk to in the first place. Instead she simply walked in and gave a slight wave to the Professor before taking a seat towards the front right of the classroom and waited for the session to begin.

Katrina walked down the stairs to the D.A.D.A. classroom. It was one of her favorite subjects and she didn't want to be late. She looked at her watch and saw that she still had a few minutes before class begun. She broke into a run when she saw the door, hoping it wouldn't snap shut. With only a few minutes to spare, she walked inside and saw Bee in the front row. A few rows behind her, was Jack. She also saw another Gryffindor, a Ravenclaw and another Slytherin. She didn't know them quite well, and was sure they wouldn't want to speak to her. She hurried over to Bee and sat down beside her. Taking out her quill and spare pieces of parchment, she said, "Hi Bee! What's up? You seem lost...."

Post by Ivy Tunstall on Jun 13, 2005 16:38:38 GMT
Defence against the Dark Arts was not exactly one of Ivy's favourite subjects. She didn't mind the parts of it she considered related to Charms, but some of the hexes and jinxes were just too far removed from Charms for what she liked. And she didn't really like it when they studied magical creatures and whatnot, because she didn't take Care of Magical Creatures for a reason, which was that she was rather scared and intimidated by them. She was good enough at the subject, it was just that it was not one that could be called a favourite. Anyway, it had to be taken, Ivy concluded, as she walked down the corridor towards the Arithmancy classroom. It seemed Ivy's Arithmancy teacher would be taking her for Defence Against the Dark Arts for this lesson, as Ivy had been informed earlier by a notice on the Hufflepuff Common Room board.
It was a relatively gloomy summer's day today, but as Ivy walked into the Arithmancy classroom she found it as usual taking full advantage of the light available, bright and welcoming. Professor Vector was there waiting, and Ivy nodded to her with a "Good afternoon Professor". Ivy looked around but could not see any Hufflepuffs or any of the few people she knew from other houses and so took a seat on her own in the middle of the room, resting her hands on the desk in front of her before taking out her textbook and notebook. Since there was no one to exchange a few words with, she started to flip through the textbook, looking at the many illustrations and reading through a few of the more Charms-related spells.

Post by Aden McGrogan on Jun 14, 2005 15:53:53 GMT
Aden usually enjoyed walking to class, but not this one. Every time Aden walked to this classroom he always hoped for the charms to be inactive, but day after day they remain vigilant, dampening his footsteps that kept him entertained in his long walk. Yet another form of disappointment was the Professor that was assigned to this classroom. The Professor was much to young to be teaching a class like this.
Aden reached the door with a sigh and entered. He was immediately struck with a sneer as he looked around the room. Not much to look. He thought to himself as he looked at the rabble collected in the room. Aside from him only 2 other Slytherins had shown up. A puny third year and....Well, at least there was some good news, Millicent, a Queen of Slytherin had shown up. This would be interesting.
Aden moved and took a seat away from all the other houses and waited for class to begin.

Post by Perseus Feynman on Jun 14, 2005 18:51:19 GMT
Perseus always like Defense Against the Dark Arts, but would have been happier if they actually got to learn the Dark Arts. He was fascinated by the subject and often spent many sleepless nights pouring through gargantuan tomes that he had acquired from his grandfather's house. Although many of the things he had found in the Dark Arts books were a bit useless, it was compelling to read about them anyways. He brought his attention back to where he was heading as he trudged down the hall, shouldering a large bag, full of multifarious textbooks. Perseus was glad that the walls of Professor Vector's kept the sound of the hallways out. Everyday, Perseus was forced to listen to the cacophony of hundreds of loqacious students, talking in exuberant voices. It was unambiguous that they did not know the trouble they caused just be talking so much. Perseus often had headaches just from walking through the hallways.
He entered Professor Vector's classroom to find many young Gryffindors, talking away as they always did. Persus greeted Professor Vector, "Good day, Professor." Spotting a seat open next to Aden McGrogan, Perseus put his bag down and took a seat. He had known Aden the year before, but was not sure if they were on friendly terms. He quickly turned is attention back towards the front of the classroom, anticipating Professor Vector's instructions.

She never made it a regular habit to go to class. There was no point to it really. The so call professors this joke of a school hired were barely worth the air they breathed, Snape being the only even slight exception, though he too pushed the boundaries of acceptability. At least he knew his subject matter enough to give some insight, even if he did not have the sense or courage to stand up against those filthy mudbloods. Today though, there was a task at hand, and the importance of it even to precedence over the utter worthlessness of ‘Defense Against the Dark Arts.’ The class was really just to bust students egos. If the so called followers of the dark arts wanted you dead…some silly spell or charm was not going to help you.
As she stared into the mirror at the end of the bed she concluded for the hundredth time since school started that one of the worst things about attending this school was the total lack of fashion. The skirts were too long, the sweaters too bulky, and ties had been considered fashion forward once…but their time had past. She lessened the tie around her next and finished the upside-down French braid topped off with hits of green and silver, helped by her wand and her own little secret.
She entered the DADA room as late as she possibly could, carrying nothing but a small roll of parchment in her hand, and her wand tucked into her the knee high leather laces that wrapped up her calf from the heeled sandals she had chosen to wear instead of those hideous shoes that came with the uniform. She paused for a moment to glance around the room spotting a few Slytherins as she did. Perseus, who was hardly and actual Slytherin no matter who he claimed he was related too; Aden MacGrogan, who she did not know well, but a MacGrogan was always worth a closer look; then there was Millicent Bulstrode who had proven herself simply by being a Queen, even if they had yet to be formally introduced.
She started forward again, moving casually to a section near both Millicent and Aden, as even if she was here with a specific goal in mind, she had no intention of having to be located near mudbloods in order to accomplish her goal.

"Good afternoon class" Juliette said as she stood up, "we have a very busy session today so lets not waste time. Today we will be learning about vampires. Before we begin studying though we must first wade through all the fiction that surrounds vampires. There are countless books and muggle movies on the subject and much of what is in those is fictitious." She then leaned over and took out from her bag several muggle comic books and tossed them onto the desk in front of her. "Though this sort of literature is entertaining, it provides little real information. So now I ask you, does anyone here have any idea what a vampire really is?" She then looked around the room for hands.

Post by Melody Bang-Bala G6 on Jun 15, 2005 10:01:01 GMT
Melody hummed 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' as she made her way to the Defence Against the Dark Arts class. It was being held in the Arithmancy classroom, somewhere she had never been before and didn't have much idea of its whereabouts. But Melody would find her way to it with time to spare. She would be the Castle Queen. She had set off slightly early to class, and she was now well en-route since a fifth year Gryffindor when asked had pointed her in the right direction. Melody was counting doors as beats in the bar as she walked along the corridor in time to the music she was humming to herself. As she came to the climax she turned to the left to enter a classroom. Yes, that was it, since this was Professor Vector and Melody had been informed Professor Vector would be taking them for the DADA lesson today.
Defence Against the Dark Arts was one of Melody's preferred subjects. It wasn't her best - those were Divination, Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures - but she found it quite entertaining occasionally and even when she did not there was usually something to sustain her interest. Melody took a seat next to Kat, Bee on the other side of the three. Melody gave both a smile. Kat was one of her better friends, while Melody had met Bee briefly while the third year was a little upset. Not much later Professor Vector began the class, stating that they would be learning about vampires. That sounded interesting. Melody hoped she wouldn't be too long before getting properly started with the class. She leaned back in her seat, waiting for Professor Vector to find a student who could answer the question.

Bee smiled as Kat sat down next to her. "I'm not lost. I'm just trying to ignore him." She jerked her head backward toward Jack. She sighed and then another student joined them. Melody in fact. Bee had only met her once, and that was in very upsetting circumstances. She gave a grin at Melody, but didn't get a chance to say anything because the lesson had started. The Professor asked if anyone knew what a vampire was and Bee thought she might know when Vector said that the muggle comics provide little information. Bee was a muggle born and she had learned about vampires from comics and movies. Someone that's deceased but yet still alive which is caused because they suck on others blood; is that right? Bee decided not to raise her hand, but if that was the right answer she would be mentally kicking herself later.

Osiris tried to think to himself about the answer. The only thing he really knew about vampires was from muggle movies. He thought to himself about what he would say. ” Well they suck blood for one. They don't sleep in coffins and they hate sunlight. They don't hang upside down. Being bitten by a vampire just doesn't turn you into one you must then drink the blood of a vampire wait. Well forget the last one that may just be from a movie." He thought being pretty sure it was.
He looked around and saw no one had there hand up yet so he raised his hand hoping he had the right answer.

Robert's mind was racing for the answer. He was muggle born and had seen practically every science fiction movie ever. He hated not knowing things and this happened to be one of those times. He was afraid that anything from the movies would be most likely wrong. I know that they take after bats and are considered the "living dead". They can be repelled by many things including garlic and they don't have reflections. He prayed to God that the teacher wouldn't call on him but raised his hand high anyway. Even if he didn't surely know the answer he'd like it to appear like he did. That's just how he was.

Katrina looked at the direction Bee was pointing, and she saw no one but Jack. "What? You mean Jack? He's alright.....but why are you ignoring him?" She gave her a confused look, just as Melody came and joined them. "Hey Melody! Haven't seen you round much lately! And what took you so long?" She shook her head, and looked back at the professor. Class had started and she thought about the movies she had seen with her friends. Vampires...I know that they don't have water inside them and they like to drink blood. If you get sucked by one, I think you will turn into one, right? She looked around and saw that only two students had raised their hands. She hesitated for a moment, before deciding to raise her hand.

In a few seconds, several hands were up though many others remained down. Perhaps if things didn't pick up she'd simply start calling on people. "Yes Mr. Blackstone, then Mr. Knight, and finally Ms. Thompsam, in that order please tell us what you think a vampire is."

He was glad she picked him but yet was nervous that he may have the wrong answer. Thinking about it now was too late he was already picked so he stood up. "Well Professor Vector, the easiest detail is that they suck blood." He couched clearing his throat. "I don't believe they sleep in coffins or at lest all of the time and they dislike garlic." After he was done he sat down feeling a lot better and hoping his answer was right.

Savannah wasn't one to participate in class, but the deafening silence that took hold in the room once the professor asked the simplest question was driving her insane. With a disgusted sigh, she raised her hand and glared at a couple of younger students who were sitting around apparently lost in a day dream. The question itself was not even one that required much thought, lazily Savannah waited to be called on.
