Post by Professor Juliette Vector on Feb 7, 2005 14:05:04 GMT
Juliette Vector's classroom was on the 2nd floor near a stairwell to the Great Hall. Though it was quite a busy walkway, enough charms had been placed on the door and walls to dampen the sound. This was a necessity for such a subject as Arithmancy which required precise calculations. Arithmancy itself was a simple branch of magic which produced solid results that could be verified by as many people as need be, unlike other forms of fortune telling. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was spotless and always soft as a feather. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned swivel chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was liede with cabinets that were all locked. Within were scores of runes, Juliette's other passion. The back wall contained two large windows that let ample amounts of sunlight in the area, also by the windows sat four pale blue couches. Under the windows sat a small cabinet that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games. To Juliette a good classroom was one that students enjoyed coming to, she did her best to make sure that her class was comfortable enough for students to do their best work, though foolishness was quickly dealt with and the offender soon found that they no longer had any priveledges in the class. When not teaching a class, Juliette would allow any student who so desired to come to her room to study, relax or simply talk and hang out. Today was no exception as a pair of Hufflepuffs had set up shop on the couches and were busily engulfed in a game of wizard's chess.
As Juliette sat at her desk in the front of the room she went over the roster of students she would be seeing very soon. Flipping through her lesson for today, it would be a fairly easy one. It would also be a good chance to weed out those who simply didn't have the patience or ability to handle the precise calculations Arithmancy required. Glancing at her watch, there was just a few minutes until the class would begin. "Mister Patterson, Miss Jennings, Arithmancy is about to start, you may return later if you wish." The pair of Hufflepuffs then got up and waved goodbye before leaving the classroom. Now in silence, Juliette awaited the arrival of the students to begin the new term.

Gregory trudged down the corrider slowly, he had to get somewhere but he didnt want to get there in any hurry. His pockets and robes were lined with food that he had swiped from the great hall, and other students plates. At the precise moment he was munching on a biscut as he walked to arithmancy class.
he groaned as he thought of the class. Arithmancy was one of the tough classes that would overload him with homework and barely give him any freetime. Plus, arithmancy was a class that required a sharp brain, and clear problem solving skills. none of wich gregory had much of. He groaned again as the room came into sight and he slowed his pace even more, wanting to delay it as much as possible.
he quickly finished his biscut as he reached the class doors and entered the classroom. He looked about and noticed a few students were already there, but the girth of the class hadnt shown, wich made him angry. Now he looked like he showed up early for a class. he found a seat with a sigh and reached into his pocket and pulled out another biscut and began to eat it while waiting for class to begin

Karissa Chiff, a third year Gruffindor, walked down the halls of Hogwarts.
"Hmmm..." she muttered, staring at a rather confusing map someone had lent her. "Arithmancy should be right about here..." she said, stopping in front of an open door. Karissa walked inside. She loved Arithmancy. It was her absolute favourite class, other than Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against The Dark Arts, of course. She knew she liked it better than Potions, which she literally 'sucked' at, as her little sister Anne would say. Karissa looked around. There was a Slytherin sixth year sitting at his desk, and a few Hufflepuffs playing Chess. Karissa took her seat and took out a quill, ink, and parchment.

Sydney wore her normal cheerful smile as she made her way through the halls of Hogwarts Castle. She carried her bag at her side, filled with her favorite quill, ink, two notebooks, and her Arithmancy book. Sydney wasnt the best at work- but she tryed. She was more 'hands on' than tactical thinking. Sydney giggled to herself as she thought that to herself.
Walking up the last flight of stairs Syd turned to her right as she kept walking down a long hallway. Sydney's look changed since the holiday. She wore her hair up, as she did before. Over the holiday she wore her hair down- it was a nice change, but not perminent. Turning one more right, Sydney reached her Arithmancy class. Walking into the door- she nodded her head at Professor Vector- with a smile. Walking towards the first seat she saw, she sat down. Setting her bag at her side- she took out her book, a peice of parchment, and extra ink. She waited quietly as the class was soon to begin.

Katie was walking joyfully to Arithmancy. For some reason she was always glad to go to Arithmancy. It was just one of the classes she liked. It was better than Transfiguration at any rate. Katie shifted her shoulder bag on her arm. Today she was carrying a plain black one, which she used for her school things. She had inside a pen, a quill, two pots of ink, some parchment, a notebook and her books for the day.
As she stepped into the classroom she looked around, trying to decide where to sit. She saw a Gryffindor girl who looked to be her age sitting near the front of the class. Katie thought her best bet would be in a seat next to her. She looked nice enough. She walked over and sat down next to the Gryffindor and pulled out the things she would need for this class. She was early for class, as usual, so she thought it wouldn't be a bad time to get introduced to this unknown girl.
Katie smiled warmly and said, "Hi. I'm Katie Robbins. 5th year." She waited anxiously to see if the girl would care to speak with her.

Kris yawned into his regular cup of cappuccino and shrugged his book-bag on his right shoulder to a more comfortable position as he slowly trudged towards the Arithmancy classroom. He did fairly good in the class and didn’t really mind it, except for today, when he had had only 3 hours of sleep during the night. He had slipped away from the castle at evening once again and had had a date in Hogsmeade, which had ended rather late for Kris.
Coming to the Arithmancy class-room Kris entered and was rather surprised at how few people were present yet. Two fifth years, one third year and Goyle were the only ones present. Finishing the cappuccino, Kris sent the cup to the kitchens with a wave of his wand and slipped into an empty seat, nodding to Goyle in greeting. He didn’t know the sixth year Slytherin, but didn’t have much against him personally either. And he was in the same house, so he deserved a greeting.
Letting his book-bag drop on the ground Kris closed his eyes and rotated his head a couple of times, trying to wake himself up more fully before class began. Luckily he had a sharp enough mind, so he should be able to pass this class easily. So Kris just opened his eyes and glanced out of the window, without bothering to pull out a quill, ink and a parchment.

Karissa looked around. The class was pretty empty.
"Not much of a turn out today," Karissa muttered. She looked around and saw that there was another student in the classroom. It was the Slytherin that she had met a few days ago, the one that had helped her find her two kittens. Karissa got up and walked over.
"Hi, I'm Karissa. You found my two kittens Miss and Chiff, remember? I just wanted to thank you again. That was really nice. Not many people would have gave them back."

Harry walked out of the Gryffindor Tower, as he made his way across the floor towards the stair case. He was on his way to Arithmancy class. He wasnt to fond of Arithmancy, but he had to take it. Since he dropped Divination he needed another class.
Harry wandered through the hall with a content look about him. He was in a good mood. Ginny was home; safe and sound. And him and Julie were becomming closer. Harry smiled to himself, as he turned on to the stairs and started to walk up one flight to the next floor.
Passing a few people on the stairs, Harry made it to the floor with the Arithmancy class on it. Turning to his right, Harry found the class. Walking inside, He looked at the people who were already there. Julie had not arrived yet. Walking a few rows back, He took a seat and waited for the class to begin.

Mia flipped her brown hair over her shoulders as she walked down to Arithmancy class. Since it was her last year Mia wanted to spice up her extra classes. This year she was going to take muggle studies and Arithmancy. She really didn’t know all that much about that class but could catch on in a while. Mia was a fast learner and a hard worker. Many people considered her a Ravenclaw instead of a Gryffindor. Mia had to agree with them, since most of her friends were Ravens. Like Elina Hill and Jasmine Anderson. Mia didn’t really know a lot of people. Durning her years she was shy and never really opened up all that much to people. But over the summer she changed and just became this person to be around.
Turning the corner she found herself in Arithmancy class room. A cheery smile was on her face as she looked for a place to sit. Seeing that no one she knew was there yet she bit her lip and sat down in the second row and looked up at Professor Vector with a warm smile. "Good day Professor." Mia said in a calm voice and crossed her legs and took out a piece of parchment and ink try and placed it before her. Mia looked at off into space and began to think. Her mind was on poems and music at the moment not school work. Taping her foot in the air lightly she waited for the class

Karissa walked over to her desk. On the way, she walked past a few desks, but no one she knew had decided to come to Arithmancy. She was the only third year. Karissa sighed. It was tough being new. She had been sick for the beginning of term and had missed her chance to come at the start of the school year, but she had been able to come for February.
"At least I'm here now," she said, smiling brightly. Suddenly, Karissa saw someone she thought she would never meet.Wow, it's Harry Potter! Karissa ran up to his desk, and began rambling on and on.
"Wow, I never thought I would meet you..." "My dad said I might though, and he was right..." "I like cats, do you?..." "I have two cats, Miss and Chiff, they're Mischief makers, get it... heheh.." Eventually, Karissa ran out of stuff to say, and finished with,
"My name's Karissa, but you can call me Kari."

Ivy sighed lightly as she walked up the stairs that led to the second floor Arithmancy classroom. The corridors were bustling at this time of day, and she had needed to get a move on to avoid being late. But she was nearly there now. Arithmancy wasn't her best subject - she found it very challenging - but she usually did fairly well in it, due to the fact that she tried hard and had a reasonably functional brain. She entered the classroom with slightly more confidence in her step, looking around to see somewhere to sit.
Ivy was not by any means happy at the moment, but she was coping. She wasn't pressuring herself with work quite so much and her mind was healing. Slowly. Ivy noticed the older Gryffindor who had been of help in initiating that, Mia Fleming, and walked over to her shyly, smiling at her slightly as she held her heavy bag, laden down with schoolbooks, in her right hand. "Hey," she said softly, hoping that the Gryffindor would hear. "Sorry, but can I sit here?"

Sapphire walked into the Arithmancy class fairly early, eager for a challenge and something to think about. Things had been being a little dull recently, what with just one mindless essay after another, and she always found Professor Vector's lessons some of the best. So she was expecting something good today. She looked around, but saw no one that she knew, and so took a seat in the middle of the classroom.
She took out two quills, an inkpot and the book she used for Arithmancy. It was a pleasant shade of blue, which she found quite pleasing to the eye. She ran her hand over the cover, before bending down once again to take out her book, 'A Small Person Far Away', by Judith Kerr. It was a nice little book, and she found the writing within moving. She settled herself down, turning to the page where a handsome leather bookmark lay, and read, waiting for the lesson to commence.

Mia sighed as she starred off into space. It seemed to be a long time to wait for the class to start so she might get a head start on her poems. Taking out a scarlet gold small diary she opened it up to a fresh page and began writing. Many thoughts and words came to her mind as her hands moved swiftly on the paper. A smile spread across her lips as her hand moved rhythmically on the paper. Mia has never showed anyone her poems or they might think she was crazy. Most of her poems were deep and depressing just the way Mia liked them. She was just the sensitive type person and could get quite offended easily but her sweet nature let her go on in life. Mia was more like her mother than father. Marion Fleming than her father. But her mother was gone now and Mia couldn’t real bring herself to think of her.
Trying to push the thoughts of her mother away she heard a faint whisper behind her. Turning around she smiled warmly at Ivy, "Of course you may. Are you feeling any better?" Mia asked pushing out a chair for the younger girl to sit. Still smiling up at the younger girl she put her note book back in her shoulder bag and rested her elbows in the table waiting for her friend to sit next to her.

Ivy smiled gratefully at the older girl and put her bag underneath the desk before sitting down carefully on the seat Mia had pushed out for her. She glanced anxiously at the Gryffindor as she pulled her Arithmancy book out. It was nothing special - it had a red linen cover, with sheets of parchment bound inside it. Ivy flicked through the used pages, filled with calculations in her tiny, neat writing. She closed the book with a slight snap and turned to look at the girl next to her again, smiling, shy in the company of someone so much older and wiser than her.
"Yes, I'm a little better," Ivy told her quietly. "Bit by bit." She smiled slightly at Mia, and although her eyes still did show hurt, her voice had a little hope in it. She was lucky in that she had the friends to get through her worst times. Kiyla, first and foremost, and Jordan, and Nokomis just for being there, and Mia too. Ivy smiled faintly, more to herself than to anyone else. 'See, you're not really that badly off,' she told herself hesitantly. 'There are people who care about you.' Although she did not speak the words, they helped her have more confidence, and she sat up a little straighter, tucking the long hair behind her ears instead of it shadowing her face. Everyone had their struggles, but life went on, and it was up each individual to keep up. Ivy was not ready to give up yet, and as she pulled her quills and inkpot out of her bag, she smiled again at Mia, and this time the same hurt did not reside as deep in her eyes.

Kris glanced at the third year Gryffindor, who approached him, with surprise as she came over to speak to him and thanked him again for returning her kittens. Even though the kittens had just stumbled upon Kris. Before he had a chance to react though, Potter entered the class-room and the third year hurried off to him. Thoroughly amused by the third year’s behavior, Kris couldn’t suppress his laughter and throwing his head back laughed.
“Would you mind not loosing your temper yet, wonder-boy?” Kris said loudly enough to be heard by the two Gryffindors. Kris always referred to Potter as ‘wonder-boy’ or ‘wonder-kid’ as did his cousin as well as a matter of fact. They didn’t know Potter personally, so they couldn’t really call him Harry, Potter seemed too… Snapeish and the boy-who-lived was just a stupid expression by their opinion. So ‘wonder-boy’ had stuck.
“I have a little bet going with my cousin Dana as to when exactly you are going to hex someone from your fan-club and I’d loose, if you did it today,” Kris continued with an amused tone as he watched the situation, “Even though your fan-club is a constant source of free entertainment.”
Kris grinned once again as he finally pulled out a quill and a note-book from his bag, even though note-books were muggle inventions, Kris used them. He didn't like random slips of paper, so he preferred note-books. There the papers were at least connected to each other. Chuckling lightly once more, with a shake of his head, Kris glanced at his watch, being ready for the class to start, as he was now completely awake.

Post by Cassandra Blackfire G7 on Feb 13, 2005 14:32:11 GMT
Cassandra made a mad dash out of the common room to get to Arithmancy. It was a new class for her, and yesterday wasn't the best of evenings. She had met Kris last night, a Slytherin 5th year, and all the things that went part and parcell to that meeting last night. She couldn't sleep at all last night, and the potion still was having a few side effects. Even when she did sleep last night, she tossed and turned. She was pretty sure she had woken up Kariss and a few other of the girls last night.
Cass looked ruff. Her hair looked half brushed, which it was. She ended up just throwing it in a clip as best as she could and threw it on top of her head. She found a wrinkled skirt in the bottom of her trunk, and she was pretty sure she hadn't worn it since she was 1st year, but somehow she shimmied into it. The skirt she wore last night out she was going to wear today, but it really wasn't decent to wear anymore. She had really dark circles under her eyes, and she was walking with a bit of a limp for some reason. She just attempted to stand up as straight as possible.
On her way to class, many girls gawked at her appearance. Probably surprised that a Gryff would walk out of her common room looking like that, but she had managed the best she could today. Before entering class, she took a brush to her head and managed to straighten her hair out one more time.
She got it considerably better, and she put it in the clip. Harry walked in and she threw a " Hi" at him.
She walked into class right after him, just to watch Kris to mock Harry and Karissa asail Harry with a barrage of questions. She dropped her bag beside the empty desk, adjacent from the row of Kris, and in front of Harry. She went to save Karissa from something that didn't seem like a good moment at that particular time.
"Karissa, honey, could you come an help me with some Divination homework. I'm kind of lost," which was very far from the truth. She had no problem with divination, but she really just wanted to keep her from embarrasing herself. " I know Harry from the Quidditch team. If you want, I can talk to him later and we can see about you meeting him." She threw Harry a quick wink, and a head nod, as in thanks for not embarrasing her. She led Karissa to her seat.
" Good morning Kris," she said this as she shot him a What Was That For look. " How was the rest of your evening?"

Kris was really amused by the third years behavior, so he still chuckled lightly, when Cassandra entered. Cassandra was also a third year Gryffindor, but Kris had met her the previous night and decided she wasn’t really that bad for a Gryffindor. He noticed that Cassandra didn’t look her best with dark rings around her eyes and her hair weren’t in perfect order either.
Grinning as Cassandra sent him a reprimanding look after taking the edge off his words and stopping Karissa from embarrassing herself further, Kris nodded in greeting: “Morning, Cassandra. Sleeping on ground isn’t really my idea of the best rest, but I still look better than you do this morning. Karissa’s words at least woke me up effectively, even though my two cups of cappuccino probably helped as well. But you are probably experiencing the after-effects of the potion? I skipped my classes after testing it – Snape gave me a notice that freed me.”
Kris clicked his tongue and pulled out his wand, casting two glamour charms on Cassandra: “I know these charms thanks to Dana and my legal guardian, but I seem to use them a lot on different girls lately.” Kris tilted his head and observed Cassandra. His spells had removed all traces off sleepless night from Cassandra’s face, which now looked as good as ever. Maybe even with a bit clearer complexion, as the spell did add a slight effect of make-up. If someone looked close enough, then they would have noticed that Cassandra’s eyes were a bit more shiny than it was usual to a human, but for htat you had to look very close and pay attention.
“However my night seems to have been better than yours. Dumbeldore stopped by at an un-godly early hour and checked at the vixen as well. She’ll be alright in a week or two and I’ll let her back to the Forest then,” Kris answered to Cassandra with his trade-mark grin, he usually used to charm girls. The half-smile was supposed to ‘make him look unbelievable attractive’ as he had been told.

Cass picked up the mirror that was in her bag, surprised she looked better than ever.
" Thanks, Kris. Thats really good to hear....," she trailed off when Kris smiled at her. Oh my God, he looks hot, Cass thought to herself as he smiled. But, of course, she quickly thought of Pyro, the 3rd year she was seeing from the Slytherin house.
" That is very good to hear about the vixen. I told all the people in my dorm that I fell off a rock on the grounds to have looked so bad. They were trying to tell me to go to the Hospital wing this morning, but I didn't really feel bad enough to skip class," Cass shot Karissa a Don't Tell A Soul Look," Besides, who would miss the first day of Arithmancy."
" Oh, and just like I told Pyro, you cannot charm me with that smile," she smiled devishly back at him.

"Oh, sure, I can help," Karissa said, looking over the homework. "But I must warn you, I hate divination. It's one of my worst subjects, so I'll try. Sometomes I'm not bad at it though, so, which assignment is it? Oh, this one," Karissa wasn't at all aware that Cassandra was keeping her from embarassing herself, which was lucky because if she did she would be even more embarassed. She was kind of hyper for a third year, and usually got really carried away with herself. Even though she was hyper, she could be calm at times. Karissa looked over the assignment.
"There doesn't look like there's anything wrong," Karissa smiled. "In fact, you're doing better than me!"

" OH, well, I thought I had it all wrong," she told the girl righ in front of Kris. She didn't want to embarrass her, but she really didn't want to let her embarras herself right in front of the whole class.
She looked up at Kris, hoping he got the hint that we just need to keep her occupied.
