Justin was walking down the hallway, feeling very vivacious. He turned a corner and saw the Arithmancy classroom door. He entered the door and saw that there were quite a few people there, so he decided to just grab the first seat that he saw. Looking around he saw one that was in the middle of the class, he then walked over to it and sat down, waiting for the bell to ring.

Nasser was doing much better at Arithmancy this year, and when he thought about the reason for that he smiled to himself secretly and felt that warm feeling inside him he had whenever he thought of the person who was helping him become better. Nasser had never liked numbers much; he did once he understood how exactly he was supposed to do all the complicated calculations required to reach a solution using them, but he often got mixed up and discouraged very easily when solving problems. Alexa was patient and never gave up on him, finding different ways to explain things and making sure he understood absolutely everything and every trick he might encounter when solving problems so that now he was beginning to worry less about doing well and focus on getting as much as he could out of the class.
Quite a number of people had arrived early for the class, it was not a morning one so the students had not just scrambled out of bed and had a quick breakfast and hurried to class. Nasser sat down between Harry Potter and another Ravenclaw girl he didn’t know, in the second row which was the place he liked to sit in almost all of his classes. He smiled at Harry in greeting then took out his things and waited for the class to start.

One thing that was better about Arithmancy than Ancient Runes was that they did not have to work with some stupid rocks that supposedly had inherent magical powers. Samantha walked in and sat at the back of the class next to the other two Slytherins, neither of which she had previously spoken to. "Morning," she said cordially. She patted her hair making sure not a curl was out of place, today her hair was a dark brown and very curly. She hadn’t put on too much make-up as she knew Professor Vector would not approve of that. She then crossed one leg over the other and took out everything she needed for the class, for once not worried about her performance. She fared quite well in this class even though she did not particularly enjoy it, and she knew Professor Vector never started off with anything too complicated. She hoped this class would pass by quickly; she was aching to read the new book her father had sent her about the Unforgivable Curses.

Isabella walked down the corridor carrying her bag on her shoulder and her hair down and curly. She liked her hair in a different fashion and hated it to be the same every day. A bored looked was on Isabella face as she continued on down the corridor. Why did she take up this class? She knew she wasn’t going to do very good and should just drop out. But that wasn’t Isabella; she never gave up and always liked a challenge.
Opening the doors to Arithmancy class room she scanned the crowds of students. Some where talking in loud groups and others were just simplify being stupid. Rolling her eyes she walked into the room more and looked for some where too sit. She defiantly was not going to sit with a Gryffindor or anyone she did not know. The only muggle born she liked was Jordan Cortes. The girl has a spice to her and didn’t seem like a Hufflepuff but Slytherin instead.
Noticing a seat open next to another Slytherin Isabella walked over towards it and sat down. Setting her books in front of her and her icy blue eyes wondered to the girl next to her. A sly smirk was on her face as if it were all she could offer. "My names Isabella I never seen you around..." Isabella told her crossing her leg and looking up forward and waiting for class to begin.

Juliette waited for the bell to ring and then she rose to her feet. "Good afternoon class, today we will begin our Arithmancy work with a simple self evaluation. I hope you have all read chapter 1 in your textbooks thoroughly. Now then, Today you will be using your own names. First off I would like you all to find your CHARACTER number. When you have found your CHARACTER number please write down what your number means in regards to your overal personality. You may now begin."
(( If you have never taken Arithmancy before, go to the classes section, my class page there explains how to find your CHARACTER number and what it means.))

Karossa jotted down her Character number, which was 3, in her notebook. She dipped her quill in ink and scratched it along the paper, figuring out the number. She looked toward Professor Vector and waited for the next step.

Katie pulled out a sheet of parchment, her favorite quill, and a pot ink. She flipped open her Arithmancy book to the appropriate page and began to calculate her character number. She wrote out K-A-I-T-L-Y-N on her paper and assigned the numbers 2-1-9-2-3-7-5 to each letter. Then she did the same with her last name coming up with 9-6-2-2-9-5-1. Katie added up all of her numbers and came up with 63 as her first number. Then adding 6 and 3 together she ended up with 9. She scanned down the page in her text book. "Aha, number nine. 'Represents completion and achievement to the fullest degree (as it is the complete number, three, expressed three times). Nines dedicate themselves to service, often as teachers, scientists, and humanitarians. Strongly determined, they work tirelessly and are an inspiration to others. However, they can also be arrogant and conceited when things don't go their way.'"
'Hmmm,' Katie thought, 'I can't really agree with the arrogant and conceited part. I surely hope I'm not either of those two things. I'm not am I? Woah, Katie, stop. Right now we need to focus on our class assignment.' She took a deep breath and copied her results onto her piece of parchment. Katie checked over her math twice, just to make sure it was correct, and then she sat upright in her chair, looking up at the teacher, ready for the next set of instructions.

Ivy bit her lip worriedly and looked sideways to Mia for some reassurance, or a friendly smile. She scanned the page, trying to refresh in her memory what she was supposed to be doing. Never mind reading it thoroughly - she still didn't understand it. Ivy sighed. She might as well try. She just hoped she didn't mess it up. Ivy opened her book and took out a sheet of parchment. She wrote down 'Ivy Tunstall' on it, in her tall, squashed and slightly spiky handwriting. Then she looked to the little table on the textbook page and started to write each number down, frowning as she worried about whether she was doing it completely wrong. "9-4-7", she whispered to herself, and consulted the textbook to see if she was supposed to do her last name too. She was. "2-3-5-1-2-1-3-3", she muttered, as she completed her second name. Now for adding them together. She had better not go wrong here. "The first one makes... 20," Ivy told herself, glancing sideways to Mia, hoping she wasn't being too disturbing, "and the second one makes 20." Ivy frowned. How odd. She added them together and worked out that her character number must be 4.
Ivy looked at her textbook. She hoped it wouldn't say anything too outrageous. She ran her finger down the page until she reached the correct number. '4', she read, 'Like a table that rests solidly on four legs, four indicates stability and firmness. Fours enjoy hard work. They are practical, reliable and down to earth; they prefer logic and reason to flights of fancy. They are good at organization and getting things done. Like the cycle of the four seasons, they are also predictable. They can be stubborn, suspicious, overly practical and prone to angry outbursts. The conflicts possible in "two" are doubled in four.' Ivy grinned in spite of herself. Never before had she been compared to a table.

Kris opened his book and wrote down numbers 2-9-9-1 and added his family name which added 7-9-1-1-1. Having added them together in his head while writing the numbers down, Kris got the total sum to be 40, which meant that his character number would be 4.
Flipping his book to the right page Kris read to find out what his character number represented and smirked while reading it. Kris didn’t mind hard work and he was practical and logical, but good at organization wasn’t really him. Nor would he bother to work hard in classes he didn’t like. Kris frowned at the comment of being predictable but couldn’t really argue with the fact that he was stubborn, overly practical and prone to angry outburst. Actually Kris took the stubborn part as a compliment.
Kris didn’t let any emotions show on his face, as he leaned back in his chair and idly twirled the quill between his fingers. On the whole the number hadn’t been very far from his personality so Kris was rather satisfied. Having flipped through his book earlier, Kris wondered briefly if they were supposed to find out their heart and social numbers as well. Having a bit of free time he glanced at the numbers he had written in his note-book, Kris added them in his head and after discovering that both statistics came down to 2, glanced at his book once more to see what it said about number two.
Smirking again after having finished with reading what the outcome would be, Kris turned to look out of the window with the emotionless mask on his face once again.

A third year Gryffindor walked up to Harry. It seemed as if she was in a state of shock seeing him. Harry smiled, to her. He was a little uncomfortable. He wasnt used to people comeing up to him talking about his past. He had people speaking about him his first few years- but this was his sixth year, most people were used to him. He smiled as Cassandra diverted her attention. Cassandra was on the quidditch team- her and Harry talked a few times.
Class still didnt start. Yawning- Harry's eyes began to fall. He didnt get much sleep last night. No real reason, just wasnt a good night. Slumping down on his desk, he drifted slowly off to sleep. Harry lay asleep as Professor Vector started the class. Harry was completely un aware about what was happening around him.
A few moments passed as Harry's body began to have a warm feeling to it. It was comfortable. It was the feeling he had when he was with Julie, warm with happiness. Suddenly the warm comfortable feeling changed into something shocking. Jumping from his sleeping position- Harry woke up. Suddenly, in his mind he heard Julie. "Harry! Harry! Help me! I've been kidnapped! Harry! Respond, Please! Harry!" Harry remembered the charm Julie and Harry put on his watch and her bracelet. It was the Veraneous Charm, a charm that makes two people who are in love communicate with each other, telepathically. Glancing down at his watch, Harry thought of Julie.
Worry, discomfort, and confusion appeared on Harry's face. Standing up from his seat, Harry's chair flew behind him- alerting the whole class of his sudden movement. Looking around to make sure-Julie was no where in site. She never arrived to class. Leaving his books where they were. Harry ran to the door. On his way he said outloud, "Professor Vector. Emergancy! There is a Kidnapping! I have to see Professor Dumbledore!" Harry exclaimed. Harry didnt want Julie to take part in what ever plans Voldemort had for him. Julie had nothing to do with him!
Harry ran out of the class as he drew his wand from his pocket. He wasnt safe now. If Julie was gone- He needed to get her back. Thinking in his mind- Harry sent to Julie. "Everything is Fine. Are you okay? Where are you?" He needed an answer. Harry ran down the hallway towards the stairs as he went towards Dumbledore's office.

Kari jumped as she saw Harry jump up and stare at his watch, then star talking about a kid-napping. She watched him run out of the classroom and down the hall. She looked around. She was shocked at the sudden outburst, and wondered how many other people were surprised. Kari wondered who had been kidnapped. Could it be anyone she knew? Kari felt ashamed of herself for jumping on Harry like that. She should apologize next time she saw him, if she saw him again.
Kari looked around. She saw a few surprised faces, but mostly everyone resumed their work. How could they be so calm? Someone could have been kidnapped, and could be killed. She remembered what Professor Dumbledore had said about Ginny Weasley's kidnapping. Everyone had been worried about her, yet no one seemed to realize. Kari saw another Gryffindor looking around curiously, one that was a few years older.

"Indeed?" said Samantha disinterestedly as she turned to her fellow Slytherin sixth year. Samantha had no wish to make friends; the only people who interested her were those with power or a high position in the magical community, for she was of the opinion that she should stick to such people as they could help each other in controlling the magical community and rid it of the filth that had become a part of it. "I am Samantha Driscoll," she said proudly. She looked at the girl without being too obvious, eyeing her jewellery and the quality of her robes' material. She told herself that she needed to be a little more sociable with her fellow Slytherins so she gave her a small smile and then turned to her work.
Samantha calculated her character number by following the steps written in her textbook, though she did not care much about what the result would turn out to be. However, she felt herself shudder involuntarily when she read what the book had to say about people with the character number 8. Eight indicates the possibility of great success in business, finance, and politics. Eights are practical, ambitious, committed, and hard working. They can also be jealous, greedy, domineering, and power-hungry. Eight is said to be the most unpredictable of numbers and can indicate the pinnacle of success or the depths of failure; the potential to go either way is present from the beginning. It had hit a little too close to home. If there was one thing that frightened Samantha it was failure. Although she hid this very well she had serious problems with her self-esteem. She was pondering on what she had just read when there was suddenly an unexpected diversion from the other corner of the room.
Harry Potter had suddenly yelled something about an emergency and rushed out of the room. Did the boy have no self-control whatsoever? It was enough that they had to see him in this class too this year. How he was taking Arithmancy even though he had not been taking for the past years surprised Samantha, though she was quite sure the school had made exceptions for him as it always did. Maybe his new girlfriend had helped him or that buck-toothed know-it-all Granger. Samantha laid down her quill and crossed her arms, wishing this class would end. Thanks to his sudden outburst the class would now obviously start some melodramatic displays of worry and fear, and they might not be allowed to leave the class till everything was sorted out. Would that boy ever stop being a pain in the neck?

Juliette walked around the room as the students began their work. "Well done Mr. Graas, take 10 points." She next walked past a pair of Hufflepuffs who both had finished their work, "Excellent Miss Tunstall and Robbins, 10 points for each of you." She next walked over to a Slytherin who had also finished her work. Looking at her parchment it was well done, "very good work Miss Dris...." Juliette was unable to continue as Mr. Potter stood up in class and looked shocked, before she could say a word Harry had yelled about an emergency kidnapping and was running for the door. "Potter, Where are you .. Potter? Get back in... " He was however already gone. With a heavy sigh she looked around the room. "I'm sorry" she said as she looked at a pair of Gryffindors, "but 10 points from Gryffindor. Now, the rest of you continue with your work, if there were a real emergency Professor Dumbledore would have told us." Once more she turned to the Slytherin she was next to, "as I was saying Miss Driscoll, good work, take 10 points."
She then waited for a few more students to finish before she continued with the lesson. "Alright most of you have by now done your character number, next I want you all to find your HEART number. HEART numbers refer to your inner personality, the side of you that only your closest friends know. As with the CHARACTER number, please write down the description for your inner personality."

Katie found the section in her arithmancy book that talked about HEART numbers. Under the area on her parchment where she had written her CHARACTER number she wrote her name and circled all of the vowels. Underneath that she wrote out A-I-O-I and then proceeded to write the numbers for each letter underneath that. Coming up with 1-9-6-9 she added them together. The first number was 25, but adding those two numbers together the final outcome was 7. She turned back to the area with the list of numbers where she would calculate her results. "Perceptive, understanding, and bright, sevens enjoy hard work and challenges. They are often serious, scholarly, and interested in all things mysterious. Originality and imagination are more important than money and material possessions. Sevens can also be pessimistic, sarcastic, and insecure." 'Well,' Katie thought to herself, 'I couldn't agree much with the pessiimistic bit, but the rest seems to match well I suppose.' Katie shrugged it off and once again, looked towards Professor Vector for further instructions.

Kari looked in her Arithmancy textbook. She worked out the calculations, and found out she was once again a 3. She looked to the back of the book where it showed the meaning of the numbers.
Three represents the idea of completeness or wholeness, as in the threesomes past-present-future and mind-body-spirit. Three indicates talent, energy, an artistic nature, humor, and social ease. Threes are often lucky, easygoing, and highly successful, but they can also be unfocused, easily offended, and superficial.
"That sounds alright, except for the superficial part." Kari frowned. She wasn't superficial. She didn't think she had social-ease, but she did get along with just about everyone. She could be easily offended, but not many people offended her unless they went out of their way because she tended to try to stay away from crowds. She could definitely be unfocused. Her mind tended to wander and when having a conversation on something like quidditch, she might start to talk about something completely unrelated like her cats. People said she had talent, not lots but some, and she was pretty easy-going, so the description was mostly right.

Why did I have to be cursed with such a long name? thought Cass to herself. She began to add the numbers together for her Character number. She sorted through the book evenutally disecting th parts of her name. 3....1....1....1....1....5...4.....9....3, and so on. After she did her calculations, she finally came to the number 4.
Four, huh, she thought to herself. She suddenly heard a commotion come from behind her and she quickly saw Harry run out of the run. She sighed as another ten points were taken away from Gryffindor. She looked at her book, and saw that four meant stability. Well, I'm obviously more stable than him, she thought to herself.
She began to work on her heart number. This was a bit easier since she only had 5 vowels in her name. 1....1.....1.....6......6. After coming up with 15, she added the 1 and 5 together to make six.
Well, I guess that is a good combination she thought as she stared at the numbers. I never thought of myself as loyal, reliable, and predictible. She sighed to herself.

Kris just nodded when professor Vector gave Slytherin 10 points. He liked Arithmancy as that lesson had at least some logic in it, not like Divination. He figured that he would probably like Astronomy as well, if he had bothered to take it. Hearing sudden commotion, Kris turned curiously and watched as Potter jumped up and started ranting about some emergency. Kris didn’t know what he was up to – nor didn’t even care that much really but he did wonder what made him think it was an emergency. Maybe he had a soul-mate charm on some of his items – Kris had a soul-mate locket that would let him know his cousin needed to see him. She had mainly used I when she got lost in the castle in younger years. Kris had to admit he was a bit curious though – the Potter kid had done enough things to promise this one to turn into something huge as well.
Shrugging lightly – if something would happen, then he would hear or see about it in the right time, Kris turned his thoughts back to the lesson. Having already calculated his heart and social numbers, as he was rather good with numbers, Kris smirked and draw a little x next to number 2. Two represents interaction, two-way communication, cooperation, and balance. Twos are imaginative, creative, and sweet natured. Peace, harmony, commitment, loyalty, and fairness are characteristic. But two also introduces the idea of conflict, opposing forces, and the contrasting sides of things: night and day, good and evil. Twos can be withdrawn, moody, self-conscious and indecisive.
Well, Kris certainly was moody, withdrawn with people he didn’t know very well. Self-conscious and indecisive would fit Kris as well, although he doubted about the sweet natured part. Leaning back in his chair Kris twirled his quill idly between his fingers and stared out of the window watching an owl, that was flying towards the school. Probably a letter to some student Kris figured and turned his eyes towards some wild birds who were around when the owl disappeared from the sight.

Ivy smiled as the Professor gave her ten points. It always gave her a warm feeling to earn points for her house. Having nothing better to do, her eyes followed the Professor around the room as she encouraged her pupil. That was how a class should be taught. Ivy never actually felt afraid of coming into the Arithmancy and Ancient Runes classes, even if she often found them rather challenging. Ivy's eyes widened slightly as she saw Harry Potter stand up in the middle of the class, say something about a kidnapping, and rush out. She wondered if he was serious. Perhaps he was. She'd heard that such things had happened before, although she didn't know him, save for the fact that she had seen him in action on the Quidditch pitch.
Ivy looked with consternation to Professor Vector to gage her reaction. The look on her face might well have been one of astonishment. Ivy shook her head in confusion as 10 points were taken from Gryffindor, and looked down again at her textbook. She copied her character number's paragraph down onto the piece of parchment, fairly neatly, and then turned to the page she thought she remembered HEART numbers being explained. It wasn't on that page but it was on the next page. She turned to her piece of paper again and wrote a heading, 'HEART number', before starting to write down her calculations. 'I-u-a', she wrote, astonished by the lack of vowels in her name. It wasn't anything she had really thought about before. So that was '9-3-1', which added up to 13... so her heart number was once again 4. Ivy smiled. She was evidently very sturdy. She started to copy down the paragraph again, this time under the 'HEART number' heading.

"Character numbers, those aren't too hard at all," thought Nasser, placing his quill in the ink bottle so he could start calculating his character number. He added up the numbers of each letter in his first name and surname and obtained the final result which was 8. Nasser wanted to be a Healer. It had been his ambition for as long as he could remember and though he worried sometimes like any other student about whether he was going to be to achieve his goal or not, he was going for it whole-heartedly and not wasting his time worrying. He figured he should try his best and not panic every time an obstacle came up. So he chose to ignore the second part about the 'depth of failure' and hope he would reach the 'pinnacle of success' instead.
Nasser didn’t care about the ten points at all at the moment; he was more worried about what was going on. He was surprised the Professor herself hadn’t left the class to check what was wrong, but then she didn't know Harry as well as the other Professors to realise the gravity of the situation and that Harry wasn't bluffing or just trying to get out of class. He shifted restlessly in his seat, and accidentally broke his quill. "Oh damn!" said Nasser under his breath and took out another one. Professor Vector had resumed class, and he looked at the board to check what they were supposed to do next. Heart number he wrote his handwriting shaky and untidy. A + E + A + A = 1 + 5 + 1 + 1 = 8. Same number he had calculated before. That gave him the exact same description as before. So his so-called hidden personality was the same as the one he showed the whole world. That was rather disconcerting somehow… but Nasser wasn't in a contemplative mood at the moment; his mind was on other things. He wished Perseus or Sethia or Alexa were here so he could whisper to them. How were people taking Harry's outburst so calmly? Nasser looked down at his textbook so nobody would see the frustrated expression on his face, wishing the class would end or somebody would tell them what on earth was going on.
