((Like all other classes this is not social time. I highly suggest you look over the Ancient Runes class room page on the slide out menu above.))
Sandra walked down the hall with a cup of coffee and The Daily Project in hand. A smile was glued to her face as she took a sip and continued her way down the hall where her Ancient Runes class would be. Ancient Runes was located on the second flour across from Charms and next to Arithmancy. The corridor leading down it was quite busy but the walls were charmed so no one could hear a thing in side the class rooms. Opening the door to her class room Sandra smiled as it was always the same. The entire classroom was carpeted with a soft white carpet that was as white as snow and always soft as a feather of an owl. The center of the room had twenty oak student tables with two cushioned stool chairs at each table. The wall opposite of the door was lined with cabinets that were all locked with scores of runes, which would be used the class today. The back wall contained two large windows that let in certain amounts of sunlight in the room, with four blue pale couches in the other corner of the room. There were also small cabinets all in lined that contained a couple wizard chess boards, as well as about a dozen other games.
Smiling at the sight, Sandra took out her keys from the desk door and opened one of the cabinets of runes so the students could take their own bags out. Setting the keys back in its proper spot Sandra could feel it welcoming warmness. That’s what she loved most about this room. The sun light would hit each desk perfectly and it was a beautiful day outside. All Sandra would do was smile and be in a quite happy mood. But her mood seemed too sunk when large numbers of students came in talking rather loudly. Looking at each student she sighed. "Quite now everyone class will start soon..." Sandra told them with a quick smile and sat down at her desk looking at the clock and wondering when the bell would ring.
Tucking a lose strand of her blonde hair back in its bun she noticed even more students pile into the room. "Good morning!" she greeted with another one of her friendly smiles. Sandra was normally one to expect the best of her students, and if they didn't show her the best then she didn't show them the best. It was an expectation that Sandra had set when she had taken this job here at Hogwarts, and she expected the students to live up to it. If not then they surely wouldn't learn anything. As she finished sifting through the papers, Sandra glanced and smiled, realizing that near everyone was already there, she couldn't wait for class to begin.

Caiest sighed as she put her Ancient Runes text in her bag. Today was one of those rare occasions when she would actually show up for class. After checking once more that she had everything she'd need for class she made her way out of the common room. It didn't take her long to reach the class. Which was surprising considering how crowded the hallways were today.
As she entered she noticed several other students were there already. The teacher called good morning and Caiest just gave a vague nod before searching for an empty seat. She hated coming in when there were so many people, it made finding a place to sit that was away from everyone very hard to do. She finally found a spot next to a window. She hurried over so that no one else could take it. She set her stuff down then followed suit. Laying her head on her desk she awaited the beginning of class.

Drake had his backpack thrown over his shoulder as he walked down the extremely busy corridor. He was on his was to Ancient Runes. It was a class where he could learn the way of the ancients. He was hoping that Mac would be there because she, so far, was his only friend.
As he entered the classroom he noticed that it was an amazingly comfortable environment. It had sort of a homey feel to it.
He took a seat near the front of the class, and took out a notebook. He began writing down things he had read about Ancient Runes.
Drake continued his list while he waited for the class to start.

The second floor corridor was bustling as usual at this time of day as Ivy made her way to her Ancient Runes class. She was weighed down with her heavy bag, carrying around more and more books, library books for extra reading they'd been advised to do, different exercise books she'd used up over the year but still needed for reference. She was worried about knocking something as she walked into the Ancient Runes classrooom with her heavy load on her back. It was a lovely space, she had always found that. She was appreciative of the environment - she needed it so she could concentrate as well as possible. She found Ancient Runes hard, but it could be enjoyable when she succeeded. She supposed that was why she was still taking it, besides the fact she didn't like to give up.
Setting her bag down on the table, and taking out of it the relevant books, Ivy sat down at an empty desk. She hoped there would be something interesting in store this lesson. But something she would be able to do nevertheless. She didn't want something frustratingly impossible. Her eyes scanned the fairly empty classroom. She had got to this class early, so she would have to wait a while for it to start. It wouldn't hurt though. She set her head down on the desk in her arms and rested for a while in the peace of the classroom, the slight buzz nothing as she allowed herself to relax before the lesson started.

Mackenzie sat up straight in her bed, her pale blonde hair running down her back and knotting lightly at the ends. She gasped and looked at the clock on the table beside her bed. She squealed and threw back the covers, she was going to be late! Mack was never late! She jumped out of her bed and made her way behind the divider that was in the corner. She quickly changed into her uniform, grabbed her bag, and ran out of the dorms, through the common room, and down the corridors.
She hastily pulled her hair into a quick pony tail, then braided that. She tied it with a silky green ribbon, turned a sharp corner- causing her mary janes to slide on the concrete floor. It ceased to amaze her how slippery they were even though they were concrete. She smiled a little bit before continuing to Anceint Runes. She normally wouldn't take this subject, it wasn't really something she enjoyed doing. But, Drake was in it and she knew she really was one of his only friends right now. Mack checked her watch, bit her lip, and ran faster down the halls.
Reaching the door, she stopped right before slamming into it, took a deep breath, smoothed out her shirt and opened it with a smile. Only to stop in her tracks. She glanced from the clock on the wall to her clock. Mack's mouth fell open, "Ok, not so late as I anticipated." Her clock was ten minutes fast, she was a nervous wreck and here she had at least ten minutes to actually take time to get ready. Mack sighed, slipped off her shoulderbag and took a seat next to Drake, sending him a warm smile, "Hey you. Whatcha doing?" She whispered...peering over his shoulder.

Reaching inside her book bag she toke out some parchment paper, a fancy quill, and a book on Ancient Runes.
Vika saw the proffeser in a happy mood as always. So, Vika thought. This this mean not alot of homework?

‘Ancient Runes time’ thought Pyro to himself. Pyro had decided to take that course thinking it would be a fun challenge. He had been wrong. The class was a challenge at times, but far from his view of fun. He had stuck with the class though, finding it useful to some degree. Pyro ducked and weaved through the busy halls. After what seemed like ages he came upon the door leading to the class. He stepped inside and noticed a few students already in the class. He surveyed the class. Two fellow 3rd year Slytherins had already shown. He shared a dorm with the boy, Drake. Mack he had only had a few meetings with her. They hadn’t talked much.
He took a seat closest to the door as he noticed Caiest sitting in her seat. He smirked to himself, ‘No Golem today I see’ he thought to himself. Pyro put his elbows on the table and placed his hands to his temple, groaning slightly at the cheery tone of the Professors tone as she greeted students. He straightened slightly and lowered his hands as she looked about ready to start class.

For once Kris showed up for class and was even a couple of minutes early. Not really caring about the fact, Kris drained his white cup of espresso and entered the Ancient Runes classroom. The lesson was actually quite fun and rather interesting. And Kris was good in it – it required dry logic and thinking, which probably made it rather easy for him.
Entering the classroom Kris scanned the room. A lot of people were already present, but Kris bothered to nod in greeting to Pyro only. There was the trouble of choosing a place to sit. He would be as distant as possible if he sat in the back, but if he sat at the first desks he wouldn’t have to see the stupidity of some of the students taking the class. Kris had stopped for barely a second to scan the classroom, so he made it towards an empty window-seat quickly where an open seat was still found. Two to be more precise. And as Kris sat down under the window after opening the window slightly a young Hufflepuff seemed rather edgy in front of him.
Pulling out a piece of parchment and his rather luxurious quill, Kris looked out of the class. He always appeared to be lounging and not paying attention, but his mind always restored the directions professor gave. And he usually had extremely good results from his work. Right now he didn’t care to be the ‘epitome of a good and watchful student’. Kris would bother to work when the class assignment was finally given out. Not before.

Edward headed down the hall in a happy mood. Ancient Runes, a very challenging class. Ed loved a challenge. Atleast, a challenge of the mind. Ancient Runes was doing a pretty good job of challenging him. He enterd the classroom and looked about. Not many fellow Ravenclaws were in the room. The one that was there wasnt in his year, and he hardly knew her. He looked around in a surprised expression. "Wow, didnt know Slytherins had the mental stability to do this class well." He muttered to himself as he saw the room was mostly filled with Slytherins.
He was about to take a seat near a window but he saw a old Slytherin boy. Ed didnt know him, but he looked to be in his 5th year and in great physical shape. Ed believed he had seen the boy before in the grounds terrorizing some younger kids. Ed wondered how he had ever escaped this boy for so long but didnt want to try and test it by sitting next to him. So instead Ed moved foreword and took a seat near the front.

Dana stood in the shower, letting the water fall down on her as she once again thought about the reasons why she had tried out for quidditch. Sure it was fun at some points, but it was still unfamiliar to Dana. Especially riding the broom. She was flying a lot better than in the beginning but she still didn’t have too much grace while on a broom. Glancing at her watch Dana dressed quickly and grabbing some cookies and an apple from the Great Hall headed to Ancient Runes. It was a rather intriguing class most of the time and Dana was rather glad she had taken the class.
On her way Dana had to shield a couple of yawns though, thinking absent-mindedly that she hadn’t had taken her regular morning coffee. At least she was getting some food into her stomach again. Dana had an almost never-ending appetite. Entering the classroom Dana stopped and scanned the room briefly. Nodding her greeting to Caiest happily and smiling at Pyro as she passed her Dana moved to where Kris was sitting alone at a window seat. As usual – Kris always sat near the window.
Noticing Ed Dana smiled and waved at the older Ravenclaw boy, before dropping her bag and sitting down besides Kris. “I need coffee,” Dana stated with a yawn and settled down comfortably before closing her eyes and leaning on Kris’s shoulder being in a half-sleepy slumber still. Dana wondered if professor Tyler would think of her and Kris as a couple as well – some professor had made the mistake and had met sneers and biting remarks from both Dana or Kris. That was similar about them, even though they had some similarities on the outside as well – both had a bit darker skin that always looked tanned, both were tall and slim and in shape, both had thick pitch-black hair and big eyes with the same shape. Both had attitude as well.
Dana was feeling rather comfortable, but she opened her eyes dutifully and straightened up a bit as professor Tyler began the class. The class was interesting, but difficult enough to require her full attention. Even though Dana still leaned on Kris’s shoulder a bit.

Sandra looked up at the clock at the bell rand. Its soft ringing filled the class room as she walked down the isle of desks and looked down the hall way still seeing students hurrying to class. "You better hurry up the bell already rang." Sandra called down the corridor shutting the door finally and walking back towards her desk. A smile was placed on her face as she saw many people very interested in taking this class. "Now students today we will have fun. Now you don't need your wands and place them back in your robes pockets and let’s get started." Sandra told her students with a smile. "Now can anybody tell me what makes Ancient Runes so fascinating? I want smart questions no funny answers." Sandra said sitting on her desks with her hands on the wooden oak desk looking around for egger hands to rise into the air.

Dana listened calmly to the rather cheery start of the class. Professor Tyler was rather young, but she obviously knew the subject. So why were ancient runes so interesting? A couple of reasons flashed through Dana’s head. She certainly took the subject because it interested her. Might be useful in her future as well. After a small moment of hesitation Dana raised her hand. It wouldn’t hurt to try and answer the question and maybe it would get her mind working a bit quicker. And it was rather nice to stretch for a moment – even when it was only to raise her hand. She hadn't reached it out completely, just raised about her shoulder-height - just enough to let the professor know she might know the answer, but would most certainly not be devastated should she not be called upon either.

Drake slowly took the wand that he held in his hand and placed it back into his robe. He sat thinking for a moment about the question that had been asked of him. He looked over at Mac is if she were going to telepathically send him the answer. Suddenly he remembered something he had read, and his hand shot into the air.
He waited patiently hoping the professor would call on him. He was ready and willing to answer this question.

Tristan bolted down the spiral staircase, his robes billowing out behind him. He was one minute late already and it would take him at least four to get to class. He hoped that he wouldn't get into trouble, Professor Tyler was a friendly, understanding teacher and Tristan was always keen to learn, He'd never been late for class yet.
His legs took huge strides as he raced down the Ancient runes corridor and turned right abruptly. He had turned too late and hit the cold stone with a thud. the books in his arms flew down the corridor and he scrambled on the floor to grab them.
Tristan got to his feet and entered the quiet class room. There was a boy waving his hand in the air ; the class had indeed begun. Slowly Tristan entered the classroom and stopped at the teacer's desk.
"I'm so sorry i'm late!" He said, "I was up so late last night. I had a major potions essay to write..." His words trail off as the teacher met his gaze...

The Ancient Runes class room was quite full today and many students sat with their elbows on the desk and patiently waiting for class. A smile came across Sandra's face as she looked around the room at some of the hands that rose. Pointing towards the young lady in the middle the door shot open and a younger student came into out of breath and saying he was sorry about being late. "Now Mr. Wardle I do not want you to be late again. Five points from Ravenclaw. Now Ms. Coran you may began to answer." Sandra said her smile disappearing from her face and waiting patiently for the girl to answer.

Tristan nodded as the teacher deducted five points from Ravenclaw. He supposed he did deserve some sort of punishment and that was it. He turned to Dana, a fellow Ravenclaw and mouthed the word, "Sorry!" It was never a nice feeling when you lost points for your house. Especially when it happened in front of fellow house members. Tristan thought Dana wouldn't mind though. She was a very understanding person. Tristan new quite well as he had met her before, had a water fight with her and played a game of chess with her. She was indeed very clever and Tristan new she would understand. The teacher had. Although she had deducted points from Ravenclaw Tristan knew this was only because she wanted to ensure he wouldn't be late again. She seemed a kind teacher and an understanding one.
Walking across the full classroom tristan took a seat at the front of the room. He was very interested in learning about ancient Runes. He had studied The Futhark (Viking Runes) and had been fascinated with it. Hurridly Tristan unpacked his things from his black satchel. A quill and a pot of ink. His notebook. His Ancient Runes textbook and finally several rolls of parchment. Tristan listened as he heard another student answer a question. Tristan wished he had heard the question. He loved the feeling he got when he answered a question correctly.
Gazing oustside the large window to his left Tristan noticed a light drizzle of rain had begun to fall from the clouds. It was not enough rain to water the plants, but just enough to cause an annoyance for students outside. Tristan noticed a care for magical creatures class outside. There was a farely large group of students outside and then Hagrid and what appeared to be some sort of animal tamer. Tristan wondered what animal it was when his question was answered. Dragons. There was a small cluster of dragons with the class. "Wow" Tristan breathed, when he was tugged from his reverie as the teacher answered the other boy's question.

Post by Sapphire Phoenix R7 on Apr 20, 2005 20:53:56 GMT
Sapphire packed away the remainder of her books as Professor Binns finished explaining. She had asked him for a more detailed analysis of the situation leading up to the Goblin Rebellions. It was important that her notes were complete and up to date so that she could revise well and do well in her exams, as well as to have a secure base for the work she would be doing in her OWL year. But Professor Binns had been hard to stop as usual, and now she was hard pressed to get to Ancient Runes on time. She wasn't the sort of person who lost points for her house by being late to class though, and she didn't intend to make Ancient Runes the first lesson in which she broke that habit.
The corridors were busy, but she had a slim figure and was moving fast, and was luckily able to get past the group of second year girls who felt in no need to hurry and were walking along with their arms linked at snail pace. She sighed exasperatedly as she got past them and they looked as her as though she was mad. But they evidently didn't understand the importance of getting to classes on time and working hard. They would come to understand in time. If it took them doing badly in their OWLs to teach them. Sapphire got into the Ancient Runes classroom just before Professor Tyler started the lesson. She nodded to the teacher out of politeness as she slipped into a seat next to an older, rather tall Ravenclaw boy, at least two years older by the look of him, and glanced at him before staring disapprovingly at the younger Ravenclaw boy the teacher was now taking points from because he appeared to think doing his homework at times he should be getting to lessons was an excuse for being late. After she had taken so much effort to get to class on time. Sapphire allowed herself to settle into the lesson as the teacher called on Dana to speak.

Dana was called upon and she had already opened her mouth when the class-room door burst open and Tristan burst in. Dana mentally sighed – she wanted Ravenclaw to win the house-cup! And loosing point would not help them in winning. At least Ravenclaw was ahead of other houses and hopefully Ravenclaw would earn some more points in classes. “Ancient Runes – the name of the class pretty much says why the class is interesting. It teaches about magic that was used before wands, a skill that is practically non-existent nowadays as only very few selected wizards and witches can do only the easiest spells without wand, not counting Animagi transformations. We can understand how magic has developed during time and runes are the oldest source of information we can learn from as far as I know, as runes were an early form of writing that slowly started to absorb magic into it, therefore making it possible to use different rune-combinations to perform different magical tasks, even though it required much concentration to make such magic work correctly,” Dana recited her opinion why Ancient Runes were interesting with her voice sounding clearly over the classroom and with a quiet mutter added for Kris, “And the class is a lot more interesting than Binns’s History of Magic.”<br> “One more bonus of using Runes for magical purposes is that since Runes were used for writing, then they didn’t arouse bothersome curiosity among muggles,” Dana added one more fact. She actually liked the whole idea of using runes for doing magic. Maybe because Dana was a firm believer of how much a written word could do. Besides Dana would have to feel relaxed and know what she was doing with different runes, when she would take over her grand-parents book-stores one day. Tilting her head curiously Dana came back to the class with her thoughts and waited to hear what professor Tyler would make of her answer.

Drake listened to the girl as she rattled off her answer, but he couldn't agree with that. He didn't believe it was interesting because of the written word. He found it interesting for quite a different reason.
He kept his hand raised in the air in hopes that the teacher wouldn't only take the opinion of one person.

Sandra put one hand on her chin while listening to Ms. Coran answer. The fifth year answer had a lot of depth to her reasoning and was right on target. The smile that once had disappeared on her face reappeared as she began to speak, "Excellent Ms. Coran glad that some one is very interested in Ancient Runes. Ten points to Ravenclaw." Sandra said seeing another hand raise into the air by a younger Slytherin boy. Setting her gaze on the clock she noticed that they only had very little time to get started. "Sorry Mr. Emerald but we really have to get on with class but there will be more questions later on," Sandra said with a reassuring smile before continuing, "Now send one person from each of your tables to collect a bag of runes for everyone." she said waiting for the students to collect their own materials.
