Tristan sat alone at his table. He rose from his chair which scraped slightly on the flag-stone floor. He approached the teachers desk with a smile. He took a bag of runes, "Thanks!" And returned to his table where he emptied the bag onto a piece of fabric which was there to prevent the runes and table from being scratched by one another. He sat down and began to examine the runes waiting for the teachers next instruction.

Kris stared out of the window with none of the thought whizzing around his head when Dana came in and slumped into the seat next to him. Grumbling about needing coffee Dana seemed to lean rather comfortably against Kris’s shoulder. “Maybe you should have had your coffee before flying around this morning,” Kris answered absent-mindedly, shifting a little so Dana was leaning a bit more comfortably. As the class started Kris stared out of the window as Dana was called upon, shielding his eyes and face. As the professor almost beamed at Dana’s answer Kris leaned closer to Dana’s ear. Kris knew that Dana believed everything she had stated, but that wouldn’t stop Kris from friendlily teasing her cousin. “Show up or teachers pet?” Kris whispered into Dana’s head and noticing that Dana seemed rather comfortable on his shoulder and not showing any signs of moving in any time, Kris flicked his wrist as his wand slipped into his hand from within his sleeve.
Not being able to get the bag of runes himself without bothering Dana, Kris pointed his wand towards the professors table and muttered ‘Accio’. A black velvet bag rose from it’s place on the table immediately and flew over the classroom landing softly on the table between Kris and Dana. Slipping his wand back to it’s place opened the bag and waited to see what spell they would be working with today.

Drake looked at Mac and stood from their table. He slowly walked toward the supplies of runes and grabbed two bags of them. After returning to his seat he handed a bag to Mac.
"I can't believe she wouldn't listen to me. I mean, yes I do think it's imprtant to use words, but I think that they only used runes because it was their only real source. I mean if it were that important wouldn't they still be using runes instead of wands. I dunno. I just want to learn ancient runes because it's history."
He shook his head and and smiled at Mac. "Well, let's get on with it." He muttered to himself.

Hannah looked wistfully down at the barrettes she found in her hand; she was too old to use them. They were so cute with the muggle cartoon character Piglet on them. When she was younger Hannah had always put her hair up in pigtail but now she always felt foolish and wouldn’t allow herself to anymore. Replacing her barrettes in their case Hannah pulled a brush through her long blond hair one last time before picking her pink shoulder bag off her bed.
After a quick breakfast of strawberries Hannah dashed off to Ancient Runes and slipped in moments before the class began. She half listened to a Ravenclaw answer why someone would be interested in the subject before getting her own bag of Ruins and sat back down at her table where she was currently alone.

Susan had woken early that morning to spend time in the library. She had some extra research she wanted to do for Charms before breakfast that morning. Waking early in the morning and slipping out of the dorm, she spent a few hours before breakfast studying. After breakfast, which was a bowl of cheerios and a glass of Orange Juice, she dashed off to the Ancient Runes in a real hurry. She now realized that she was almost late.
Slipping into the classroom with just a moment to spare, she spotted Hannah and waived. She slipped into the chair right beside her, and gave her attention to the professor.

Ivy sat up as Professor Tyler started the lesson, rubbing her eyes a little groggily as they readjusted to the light. The Professor had just asked a question, which an older Ravenclaw answered after the Professor had reprimanded another Ravenclaw who was disturbing the lesson by entering late. It seemed like a reasonable answer, and earned Ravenclaw 10 points. Too much. Hufflepuff would never stand a chance of catching up at this rate.
She stood up and walked to the teacher's desk to collect her bag of runes, and returned to where she was sitting just as unobtrusively. She hoped what they were doing today would not be too hard. She didn't feel like this was going to be a day where she could muster much concentration. So it would also probably be a day where she couldn't muster success. She glanced up anxiously at the teacher as she waited for her to move the lesson on, hoping that she wasn't about to embarass herself.

Pyro sat in his seat and sighed in boredom. He hardly listened to the Proffessor but he did catch the words. "Collect your bags." He glanced over at the cabinet. It would be a shame to walk all that way just for one bag of runes. He pulled out his wand. "Accio bag." With a flick the bag flew into the air.
Pyro raised one hand in the air and looked down at his desk. The bag landed neatly in his hand without him even having to look at it. He brought it down and set the back on the table.

Ed sat and waited eagerly for the class to begin. Ancient runes was a great class. It challenged the mind and Ed was extremely good at mind challenges.
He stood up from the table and made his way to the cabinet and took out a bag and brought it back to the table. He opened the bag and looked in on the runes.

Post by Lavender Brown on May 5, 2005 6:43:20 GMT
Lavender sat listening to the teacher's words. She was a good listener and would always spend a lot of time listening if any of her friends needed to talk. That was one of Lavender's virtues and she was very proud of it. After all people miss so much out of their lives because they don't take the time to stop and listen. If everyone listened all the time instead of just hearing things the world would be a much wiser place. After the teacher had finished speaking Lavender left her, bag, books, and school equipment in her place and walked to the teacher's desk. She flashed the professor a friendly smile as she selected a purple velvet bag of runes from the wooden desk.
Professor Tyler was one of Lavender's favourite teachers. She was always friendly to her students and Lavender really respected her for that. Anyone with a friendly disposition who was kind and fair received Lavender's respect. Justice and kindness were values Lavender felt very strongly about. Perhaps that was why she was in Gryffindor. Lavender would do anything to make sure justice was served and she could be very courageous. Although she had many fears, A lot more than many of her fellow Gryffindors, Lavender was a very courageous person. She was thinking about courage when she returned to her desk and decided to take out her diary and express her thoughts.
I guess courage is when you are really, really scared of something, but you face up to it. You still take on the challenge. It doesn't matter how many fears a person has, it just depends on if they face up to them. That’s real courage...
Lavender finished her thought with a flourish and began to chew on her quill, staring into the parchment pages of her diary. She was always recording thoughts, feelings, her favourite quotes and all the little details that made up her life in her diary. She had done so since she was a young girl. She snapped out of her reverie as she heard a noise nearby in the room...

Kathryn sat quietly and listened to Dana's brilliant answer. She smiled at her friend and turned back to the teacher, her smile widening as Ravenclaw recieved 10 points, 'good job Dana..that'll make up for the loss earlier' She always got so frustrated when students were late to classes, especially when they were Ravenclaw students. She rose slowly and went to collect the Runes from the teacher and took a seat back next the her friend Beth. She turned to her and whispered, "At least Brooke isn't in this class..." Her voice was barely audible.

Beth sat in class, tired from her long night of studying charms the night before. The incendio charm, although easy to master, was very comlex. She looked around the inviting and warm classroom that was Ancient Runes, excited and curious about what they were going to learn today. She cheered up a little as the start of class was announced, she opened her book and listened to Dana's wonderful assesment. A moment later she saw her friend Kathryn get up from the table and walk over to the elaborate wood cabinets to grab the runes. As Kathryn sat down at their table and handed Beth her bag she opened it curiously. Beth snickered quietly at Kathryn's comment and waited for the lesson to go further.

Maddie was sitting, in the back of the room, not really paying that much of attention. She was a little zoned at the time, thinking about, well, more important things, I guess. When it seemed like the Proffesor had just started the lesson, thought that she might as well pay attention now, so she straightened herself back up, and listened to the Proffesor's instructions.
She then noticed everyone going up and getting runes, so, she figured that she might as well too, since she kind of was supposed to, so, she went up to the front and grabbed a bag. She sat back down, and looked with interest at the different looking things in front of her. She then sat up, and stared at the Proffesor, waiting for what they were supposed to do next.

Post by Professor Sandra Tyler on Jun 28, 2005 14:36:32 GMT
Sandra was waiting patiently for all the students to collect their things and settle down. Taking out her wand she flicked it in the air and dark brown, wooden boxes laid before each student with sliver locks that could not be opened with keys. "Now todays lesson is to lift these boxes into the air and keep it there for a while and than let it back down on the ground. I would like all of you to take out the UUS rune and YLEM." Sandra said walking around the tables with her hands behind her back surveying the students. "Before I show you a dimension does anybody know what these two runes would do when connected to each other?" she asked stopping in her place at the front of the class and waiting for the students to raise their hands.
((Sorry about the lateness in this post. Been terribly out of it lately. To find the answer go to the slide out menu and click Hogwarts Class Directory and head into Ancient Runes and there you will see all the runes names and what they would do.))

Ivy jumped slightly as a wooden chest appeared in front of her and examined it as Professor Tyler introduced what they were to be doing that lesson. She took each Rune into her hand as the Professor said their names, repeating the name in her head to herself and recalling their powers. Ivy raised her hand tentatively at the Professor's question, hoping that the idea of what they would do was indeed correct. Ivy did tend to dread volunteering and then getting the answer incorrect. It would just make her feel so very foolish. Ancient Runes wasn't exactly her best subject, either. But of course she did try with it, since she had no choice. At least all it required was brainwork and concentration. Not guesswork like Divination. Ivy looked straight at Professor Tyler as she kept her hand up, running over in her head the words she planned to say were she called upon.

Post by Ashley Hill on Jun 29, 2005 7:33:25 GMT
Ash was eating muffins. Chocolate muffins, banana muffins, raisin muffins – GOOD muffins! Muffins were good. There should be a song for muffins! Taking two muffins to go, Ash jumped up and ran out of the Great Hall with giggles. Maybe she could find someone with who she could share the beauty of muffins with. Seeing people moving in the hallways Ash grinned and waved frantically while shouting: “It’s MUFFIN day!” Everybody were moving somewhere. Ash placed a finger thoughtfully on her nose and stood on one leg. Something was up. She was sure of it. Of course! Ancient Runes! Ash grinned triumphantly at remembering it and took off towards the classroom.
Sitting next to Ivy who she knew from quidditch practice Ash smiled and offered the third year one of the muffins while singing loudly: “It’s muffin day! Everybody must eat muffins! It’s muffins aaaaaall the waaaa-aaaaaa-aaaaaaayyyy!” Class settled and Ashley tired to settle down. Some Ravenclaw answered some question, but Ashley was too busy eating her muffin to make it look like a little man. Nudging Ivy Ashley showed the make-shift human to her proudly: “See, it’s Muffin Man!”
Ivy left to get some runes and Ashley played happily with the muffin man looking up as some chest appeared. Ivy raised her hand while Ash picked on the cover of the box, while whispering theatrically to Ivy: “I think they are hiding muffins in it.”

Maddie looked closely at the little box that had just been placed in front of her carefully. It actually looked pretty interesting. Ancient Runes wasn't a subject that Maddie was very good at, but it was one of her favorite classes, because everything was so interesting.
She took out the runes that the Professor had told them to take out, and Maddie studied them closely. The Professor then asked if anyone knew why they were going to use those runes, and what they had to do with it. 'I have no idea...' Maddie thought to herself. She really didn't/ She wanted to answer the question, but, she really didn't know... So, she just stared at everyone else, to see how many people knew the answer.

Ivy smiled with some reserved amusement as Ashley proudly displayed her 'muffin man', and accepted a raisin muffin from her friend from Quidditch, placing it at the side of her desk since she didn't want to get in trouble for eating in class. Ivy did find Ashley's energy quite tiring at times, but the fourth year was perfectly harmless and completely nice. Ivy gave the fourth year a quiet smile and settled back into her seat, smiling as the teacher picked on her. Not many other people seemed to have volunteered, and it made Ivy feel brave to have done so when she couldn't see that many others had.
Ivy reminded herself of the answer she had thought up and gathered her thoughts before answering, in an unusually confident voice, so much so that she surprised herself and almost stuttered during her answer as she toned her voice down, but recovered in time to not have any major embarassing mishap in it which would show as most of her answers ususally did how nervous she was answering in front of a class. "Well 'UUS' is raise and 'YLEM' is matter," she replied to the Professor, "so I think when you combined them it'd be a bit like the Levitation charm, it would allow you to lift an object." Ivy looked back over to Ashley once she had finished her answer, and smiled as she saw she was now fiddling with the lock as though it would be possible to pull it off. Ivy was glad to have the fourth year sitting next to her, although it probably wouldn't help with her concentration, which wasn't usually a good thing in this case.

"Good job Ms. Tunstall five points to Hufflepuff." Sandra said with a smile and walked towards the front of the class room where a large chest was and a small table. "Now you all have you 'UUS' and 'YLEM' runes out make a T shape with them. Once you have done that pronunse the word "UUS YLEM," Sandra said watching the chest float into the air and hover for a while. "Once you the chest rise count for a full five teen seconds and bring it down by placing the 'UUS' rune with the 'DES' and say "DES YLEM." she said watching the chest fall back down to the ground. Turning towards the class Sandra smiled widely and said "Now I want you all to try it."

Ivy smiled as Professor Tyler gave her house points and watched carefully as she demonstrated the shapes they were to make, frowning with concentration as she watched her bring the chest up and then down again with the DES and YLEM runes together. Fifteen seconds sounded like an awfully long time. Ivy didn't think she'd get there without a lot of problems. She wasn't exactly at her best today either. But she might as well give it a go. Ivy placed the UUS rune perpendicular to the YLEM rune, which she put underneath. Ivy gathered her concentration, trying to dispel everything else from her mind, focusing on raising the chest. She was going to raise the chest in the air.
"UUS YEEM!" she said, with a louder voice than she sometimes used but still quite tentative. The chest raised, much to her surprise, but it was only as if it had hopped in the air for it came back down only a second later, not having gained much height, Ivy's concentration broken by the surprise of having lifted it at all. And there must be something inside there. It was more heavy than she would have expected for a wooden chest. Shaking a little, Ivy tried again. "UUS YEEM!" This time absolutely nothing happened. Ivy put her head in her hands to try to drive out the distractions of everyone else in the classroom. It worked, partially, and she kept everything else out of her head except for her desire to lift the chest. "UUS YEEM!" she repeated once again. This time the chest rose a good ten centimetres into the air, and Ivy kept her concentration steady, the chest only wobbling slightly to reflect that. Then a loud crash of someone else's chest falling uncontrolledly broke harshly through her barrier and her own chest fell. Ivy caught it only just in time to avoid it crashing. She was determined to try again.
"UUS YEEM!" she said with confidence. The chest almost surged up through the air. Ivy could feel the breeze it made as it went. She altered her concentration to stop it from rising, so that the upward force she was providing only equalled the gravitational force on it and it stayed where it was. She kept it there steadily for fifteen seconds, and then began frantically to wonder how she was supposed to take it down when she hadn't got her runes in position. Was she supposed to have them in position already? Ivy snatched the chest out of the air as her concentration started to go, and she fingered the DES rune. UUS rune next to DES rune. UUS rune next to DES rune. She repeated it in her head. Ivy raised her chest again and then as she held it in the air, put the DES rune next to the UUS one. "DES YEEM!" she said, her voice a little shaky. It had no effect, and her concentration from the other spell was broken. Ivy caught the chest as it fell and looked over to Professor Tyler, confused as to what she was meant to do.
