Sethia stood staring at herself in the mirror, she could not believe how she looked; Miranda, an older Hufflepuff, had done wonders. Tonight was the school’s Halloween ball and Sethia was going as a medieval woman. She was dressed in a blood red velvet gown with many layers, a corseted top and her hair was done up in a fancy bun with one long braid down to her bum. Sethia’s hair was nowhere that long but thanks to a little magic on Miranda’s part and her excellent hairdressing skills, Sethia had an authentic medieval do. The dress’ neckline came just off her shoulders, revealing her neck, around which she wore a choker with a dangling silver jewel.
Sethia had no date tonight though she knew that would be the case, no one ever asked her out, but she was not bothered by that very much, well actually she was, it would have been nice for someone to notice her for once. “Well, here I go,” she said as she picked up her skirt in one hand and a fan in the other; the fan had some lace but mostly matched her dress. Most of the house had left already so there was hardly anyone left, so no one saw her as she went out. She walked down the stairs to the Great Hall. When she reached the door and she took a deep breath and walked in.
The Great Hall looked amazing, and the decorations were superb. The centre of the room was left free for a dance floor, which some were already making use of. She smiled brightly; even though she was alone she was very happy to be there. She walked through the crowd in the hopes of finding any of her friends or acquaintances.

((Hope you don't mind my jumping in....))
He was standing by one of the tables, piled high with with candy, talking to a third year from their house. After what seemed like constant run-ins with the younger girl they had hit it off well, and since neither of them had dates to the ball, he had asked her to go with him.
He was leaning back against the table, facing the entrane when Sethia walked in. The color of her dress had caught his eye and made the corner of his lips turn into a slight smile. After a moment, he told the girl he was with that he would be back in a bit, which seemed alright with her as she had friends who she wanted to say hello to, and he made his way across the room towards Sethia.
"I see you clean up well"

((Not at all. Glad to have you:)))
Sethia was looking around; she could hardly see anyone through the crowd. There were so many people, and their costumes more elaborate than the last; she began to wonder if she had chosen the right outfit. She bit her lip for a moment as she thought she spotted her best friend Nasser, but no such luck. It looked like she would be utterly on her own tonight; but she was wrong.
A smiled formed on her face as she saw a familiar silhouette walking towards her, and when the person spoke her smile brightened. She looked down at her dress and then gave Payton the once over, “So do you.” She was glad to see him, very glad, this way she would have someone to talk to, that was if he was not preoccupied with a date. “So who are we this evening?” she asked looking at his costume. She looked behind him to see if anyone followed; namely his date, as he was sure to have one.

He grinned, happy to run into her here. That had only had one conversation, but they had hit it off well. They had a past with some strong similarities and while he would have liked her even if that wasn't the case, it seemed to be more meaningful.
"Thank you"
He replied to her first complaiment, bowing slightly, making the back of his costume more visible. He had come in something truly fitting for him, half devil half angel. One side was red, complete with spiked hair and a horn, while the other was white with a wing and half a halo floating over his head.
"I am having a grand evening, one that is made even better by your presence"

Sethia smiled, a slight laugh to her voice, “You’re welcomed Payton.” Sethia laughed, “Oh I see. You’re a little mix: a little devil, a little angel. It’s very interesting costume, but somehow suits you. After all you do like messing with house elves,” she said with a grin. Sethia couldn’t help but like Payton, he was funny, a great listener and fun to be around; and she had gotten this all from one conversation with him. She could honestly say that she liked him from the start, even without the similarities in their pasts and the fortuitous chance that they ended up in the same house. She was glad that he was at the ball, even if she couldn’t spend most of the night with him.
“Why thank you, milord,” she said with a curtsey, “I am pleased to see you too. Shall we walk?” she said in proper medieval tone. “So where is your date tonight?” she asked, somewhat shyly.

Picking up on the medieval feel, he deicded to carry it a little further, and when she asked about going for a walk, he moved to her side and offered her his arm--it seemed to be what the gallant knights always did in the movies.
"Why M'Lady, I would love a walk"
He grinned again as they started to move foward, he looked quickly through the crowd for Kiyla, but then shrugged slightly and looked back at her.
"Kiyla went to say Hi to some of her friends, the Quidditch team...shes a chaser"

Sethia laughed, “Thank you good sir,” she said and she took his arm. He was being very gallant, and it was very nice to have someone glad to see her there. “Oh. You went with Kiyla. She’s nice, so I hear. Never really met her.” Sethia walked slowly with Payton, “She went to say hi to some friends, is that why you came to say hello to me?” she asked him her face angelic.
It was had she had suspected, Payton had a date and that would mean he would have to leave soon. Sethia wished at that moment, that she too had a date to count on for company that evening.

He grinned slightly at her first question, and he stayed quite for a lingering moment before leaning in so he could answer in a voice no more than a whisper. It added to the effect.
"Thats just my excuse"
He was still grinning as he straightened again, glancing over at her with his eyebrows raised, a sure signed he was thinking more than he was saying.
'How could I honestly not try and con a few moments, and perhaps a dance out of the lady in red?"

Sethia looked at Payton, he was taking a bit to answer her question and then he leaned in, drawing closer to her and whispered in her ear. She smiled brightly as he told her that it was just an excuse. “Well I’, glad you found such an excuse.”<br> She smiled at him as he stared at her, eyebrow raised. The look made her wonder what he was thinking behind those eyes. Sethia blushed when Payton told her he had to try to con a few moments with her. “A dance?” Sethia had not expected to dance this evening at all, but the evening was turning out much different than she had expected already. “I would like that,” she said a bright smile on her face, “If your date won’t object,” she added with a playful smirk.

He grinned slightly at her answer, pleased by her reaction to his words. He could see a distant look of wonder in her face too, and he guessed that she was wondering what he was thinking. His raised eyebrows were his trademark in a way. They were his way of telling people there was something he had no intention of sharing--just yet at least.
He grined at her refrence to his date and shrugged slightly.
"Nah, Kiyla will be fine. She has her eye on someone else alway....we are just friends"
He grinned again, thinking about the shy little third year. He was just open enough to try and push her out of her safe little shell and get to to say something to her crush

Sethia giggled as little as Payton looked at her, she was glad she had found him there, or really he had found her. Sethia had to admit she was pretty relieved when Payton told her that Kiyla would be all right and that she had her eye on someone else; though why she was relieved at this was beyond her; well not entirely beyond her. “Friends,” Sethia said and gave a raised eyebrow of her own, but only for a second.
“Why do you keep giving me that look?” she asked him, a smile still on her face.

He grinned at her question as if this was some game. He didn't answer for a moment, instead he just shrugged, still grinning.
"I tend to think too much for my own good...I am looking at you like that because I'm thinking more than I am letting on"
He grinned again as the moved closer to the dancefloor
"So, what do you think, ready for that dance?"

“Really?” she said with a smirk, “That doesn’t tell me what you were thinking. I don’t think you’ll tell me either.” She smiled up at him. They had neared the dance floor now, Sethia was not really sure where they were going, they were just walking, then Payton asked her if she was ready for that dance.
She stopped and faced him, she curtseyed, “I think I am.” She took her former position on his arm, “By the way, what was your real reason for coming over?” she asked as they stepped onto the floor. “If it wasn’t because Kiyla was talking to someone else, then what was it?” she smirked.

He grinned at her comment about him not telling her, and he nodded, rather eagerly. That was a trait of him, he tended to never say exactly what he meant, instead he danced around it, and tried to leave people guessing.
"I like to keep life intresting, and making you wonder for a while, is quite entertaining for me."
He then glanced over at the floor, and smiled at her answer. He then glanced down at the hand she had returned to his arm, and his smile changed into a grin as he stepped out onto the floor.
"I wanted to dance with you"
For once, he actually didn't dance around what he really meant, and confessed the truth.

Sethia was having a good time, “Oh is that so? You think making wonder is entertaining. Maybe I’ll do the same to you sometime,” she said with a grin. “Glad I can be of service,” she said, referring back to the night they first spoke together.
Sethia looked at Payton a little surprised, she had never had anyone actually want to dance with her. “You wanted to dance with me?” a softness to her tone as she asked the question. She smiled at him, a bright unmistakably happy smile, she was glad he wanted to dance with her, and even more happy that she had come tonight.

He grinned at her response to the first of his comments. He was rather glad that she was willing to handle his intrsting behavior, and even happier that she made a comment about doing the same to him, it was always much more fun that one.
It was then that she made the comment about dancing, and he couldn't help but notice a hint of suprise in her voice. He smiled slightly and looked over at her. He had already said that was his intent twice, so maybe third time was a charm.
Of course, in his usual behavior, he looke dup and tapped his chin with his free hand as if in deep thought.
"Well, I think I said that....so yes...yes, I definatly want to dance with you"

Sethia smiled as Payton put a hand to his chin like, “The Thinker” sculpture, deep in thought. She laughed, showing her bright smile once again, “Well then, lets dance.” She stared at him. Sethia was happy that Payton wanted to spend some time with her, she really liked talking to him, a was an excellent listener and from this evening, a very interesting person too.

Just as they got out onto the floor, the band was changing songs to a rather fast moving one that was popular on wiziard radio latley. He grinned, having heard it a few times, even though he was more familiar with muggle music. He let his arm fall to his side so he coudl start dancing--something that came rather naturally to him, but after a moment, he reached forward and grabbed her hand, a way of keeping her close in the crowd. Everyone seemed to be enjying the upbeat tune.

As Sethia and Payton stepped onto the floor the band changed songs to a livelier tune. Sethia gave a sigh of relief, it was a song she knew, she had actually listened to it the day before. Sethia knew both muggle and wizard music, though wizard music was more difficult to come by when she wasn’t in school. She brought her hands up a little as she began to dance to the music, rhythmically moving her body to the beat. Sethia loved to dance and she was pretty good at it too. She was enjoying the beat when she felt Payton reach for her hand, her heart stopped for a second before returning to its normal rhythm. She flashed him a smile and continued dancing, everyone seemed to having a great time, Sethia definitely was.

Seeing the smale she gave him, he flashed a bright grin back, lifting the hand that held hers slightly as he moved to the music. It was a good song song to dance too. He was happy that there was a ball here, after doing as much dancing as he ended up doing at home, it seemed strange to come here and not.
After a little bit, the song started to wind down to just a drum beat that played for some time before there was a short lul in the music as the next song was decided upon.
"Your a pretty good dancer"
