Sethia smiled, “Well I wouldn’t want to offend you,” she teased. Sethia knew that Payton would have to keep an eye out for when Kiyla was ready. She sipped her drink, “They decorated this place well. Don’t you think? Professor Flitwick is getting better every year.”
Sethia looked at the table, she picked up a crackerjack and pulled, out popped several dancing skeletons and a tiny mouse chorus leader, “She laughed as the bowed and began to perform for her, “They’re cute,” she told Payton, flashing him a killer smile, before looking back at the skeletons.

All he could could do in response to a smile like that was flash her a smile in return. He looked down at the skeletons and laughed, then nodded in agreement to her comment.
"It does get better every year."
He glance over at her, smiling still before looking out onto the floor.
"So, what do you want our next dance to be...fast song or slow song?"

“Mhmm,” Sethia said still looking at the skeletons. She looked over at him when he asked her what she wanted their next dance to be. She looked out onto the floor and then back at Payton, “Well…we seemed to do pretty well with either. A slow one, I think, we can talk a little while we dance, with the louder stuff it is a little more difficult to hear.”
The skeletons had collapsed in a heap now, and the mouse was seated on the table, not moving, she would have to cast a spell to get them to start up again, but she didn’t feel like watching them anymore. “Unless you have a preference?” she asked Payton and raised an eyebrow and smiled.

he smiled at her sugestion, raising an eyebrow as he always did, and lifting a hang to his chin as if her was pondering her sugestion.
"I do have a prefrence actually.....though it happens to be the same one as you"

“You have to think very hard,” she teased him before he answered her. Sethia was a little surprised when Payton once again shared in her thoughts, it was becoming uncanny how much they thought alike. “Really? Imagine that? So, do you have an exact time for this dance or can we just see how it goes?” she joked.

He kept his face serious, his hand still onhis chin as he looked out across the crowd, then glanced down at the watch he had on his wrist, still looking as if he was in deep thought.
"I am thinking in.... 3 minutes and 27 seconds."
He then looke dup at her, still keeping a straight face, though that only lasted for a few moments, until his expression broke into his usual happy grin.
"Either that or we can just wait until the next slow song comes on..."

Sethia looked at Payton quizzically as he looked at the crowd and then his watch, but then she started laughing when he announced they would wait another three minutes and twenty-seven second for their next dance. “Oh, Payton, you are funny,” she told him between little chuckles.
When his serious, calculative face melted away to his usual happy grin, she smiled; the serious face didn’t suit him as much as this one did. “I think we can wait till the next song.” “Halloween sure came fast didn’t it, before you know it’ll be Christmas and it’ll be snowing,” she said with a smile, “and we’ll be on our way home.” She said this without knowing if she was actually going home for Christmas this year, her aunt had indicated that she might have to go away for a while before Sethia was due back from school, and she was not sure when she would be back.

He grinned slightly at the meantion of Christmas. His father, being as extravagant as he was, went all out for every holiday, and Christmas was definatly no exception.
"Ah...Christmas at the Moore's, where we do it all...and more"
He grinned at his own play on words, the memories flooding back to him. He had gone home for Christmas the year before. Most of the students did anyway, and it was a very muggle tradition to all be home for the holidays, and since he and Dill were from a muggle family, it was all their family, not to meantion themselves, knew.

Sethia looked at Payton, he was grinning. Now what was he thinking about? She wondered, but she soon found out. “Christmas is a big to-do at your home? Must be with all of you there. Must be great, to have a big family all together at Christmas. Back home, it’s just Aunt Hetty and me. We get a tree, and I decorate it,” she said with a proud smile, “and the rest of the house. It snows buckets in Yorkshire, and the air gets so cool and crisp, it’s like if you breathe to hard is will break.” She was remembering fondly all the Christmases she had spent in Yorkshire, “we keep the animals in from the cold, and I go walking alone on the moors. My aunt says it’s dangerous, but there is just something about being out there, that I can’t get enough of,” she said and looked at Payton, an captivated look in her eyes.
Sethia started her little walking on the moors tradition, three years before she came to Hogwarts, and as she grew older, the walks became more frequent and the feeling she got there more intense, like for the first time in a long time she belonged, she was really home, but it only seemed to really last out there.

He smiled as he listened to her description. It was so different than his own. She went off on her own, where he was never on his own. Especially around the holidays, everything became even more chaoticly family focused than it normally was.
"See, the first of December, Pops taks us all to this tree place about 3 hours outside of London, and we all walk around for about 4 hours until we can all finally agree on one. Then we bring it back, which isn't pretty when you got there by train....Anyway, then we all decorate it. Pops is really bit into the old fashioned stuff--Popcore garlands, and the homemade ornaments with a picture from muggle school and then the note underneath that says "Payton's 5th Christmas."
That made him laugh, With the number of people int he family, those little paper things were almost all the needed to cover a three that went from floor to ceiling in their flat.
"But Pops pulls out all the stops. He even has Christmas themed blankets for every bed in the house."

Sethia listened as Payton described a Christmas far different to hers; they had family things, homemade ornaments and they jointly decorated, for Sethia that was all left to her, her aunt was not very, very big on Christmas decorating. Hetty loved the season and giving and sharing, but she just wasn’t a decorating person. “I buy most of our decorations, though I have put up a special ornament for every year I have been at Hogwarts, something I make myself, something that uses magic,” she told Payton.
“That sounds really fantastic Payton. Wish my Christmases were like that,” she said truthfully.

He smiled at her comment about his famlies traditions. They did have a lot of them--he had only shared a few of them with Sethia so far. His father was so extravagant, and to some extend obsessive. He could never do anything to only a small extent. If he did it at all, he did it to the furthest level there was.
"Yeah...it is fun....for about two weeks"
He laughed again, flashing Sethia a grin.
"Your traditions sound pretty good though....I could handle something a little milder. But if you ever feel like a change, you can always visit and see Christmas to the Extreme first hand"

Sethia smiled, she vaguely remembered Christmas when her parents and brothers were alive; she had been to young to really recall anything. However, despite her age, Sethia could remember one Christmas when she was about three, she got a while toy horse, and for some reason that horse meant the world to her. She still had it. She recalled her mother’s face as she sat her on her lap; her brothers as they clambered in the couch next to her mother; and her father setting the timer on his camera and then rushing over before the flash. It was the last family Christmas the Wagners ever had. She smiled to herself as the memory came flooding back to her, but then she let it go, to focus on what Payton was saying.
“Only two weeks?” She looked at him with surprise as he suggested that if she ever wanted to experience and extreme Christmas that she joins him and his family. “Really?” she asked sceptically. “You would have me join your family for Christmas sometime?”

He shrugged slightly, thought the smile never faded from his face. is comment had been half joking half true. Thought he half joking part was mainly because he was sure that she would take it that way.
"With a family as large as mine, whats one more"
His smile turned into a grin, and he noticed that the band's last song came to an end and fell silent for a few long moments as they prepared for their next song. With out thinking he reached down and grabbed her hand, just in case it was a slow song.

Sethia smiled, “Oh, yeah, that’s true,” she said a little disappointed. “With such a big family, someone like me joining the party would just blend in with the crowd.” She looked away from him absently, her hands clasped in front of her. She wasn’t really looking anywhere or for anyone, she was just looking.
She stopped looking however when the band ended its song and she felt Payton take her hand. She looked down at her hand in his and then up at him. She hoped the next song was slow…and it was.

Hearing the song he stepped forward and lead her out onto the dance floor again, turning to face her and immediatly stepping into position, his one hand still clasped around hers, his other resting on her waist.
"I did mean it about Christmas though. If you want to come....you should"
It seemed strange for him, for one of the first times that he could remember, words didn't come easily for him.

Payton said nothing as he song started, but took her onto the dance floor; once there he placed a hand around her waist, the other remained clasped around hers. She was looking at his chest, he feeling of nervousness coming over her, but she calmed and looked at him as he told her he had meant it about Christmas. “Thank you Payton, you better be careful I might take you up on that offer,” she said in a joking tone, but not really meaning it as a joke. Sethia knew she might be looking at Christmas alone in the castle and the thought of a Christmas like the one Payton would be having sounded much better to her.

They easiy fell into step with the easy beat, and while she seemed to not look at him directly, his was focused on her, making their gaze meet when she finally looked up at him.
"I hope you do, would make my Christmas much better for me. I mean, one can only handle so many of Dill's pranks, and Logan's college stories..."

Sethia and Payton fell into step with each other easily, like they had been going to dance class together all their lives, and had been partners. Payton’s eyes were intense to look at, but Sethia couldn’t help but look; they held her there, transfixed. She wanted to ask him what he was thinking of, but couldn’t.
She smiled up at him, “Maybe I will. I don’t think I am going home this Christmas anyways.”

"Really?"
It seemed so strange to him, not going home for the holidays. Maybe it was just him, taisedin the large muggle famiyl that he was, it was alwas a big deal to be together at Christmas.
"I think pops would come here to get me id I didn't come home, but then all that family stuff has been important to him."
