Billy couldn't believe what he saw Cass do to Finn - what on earth was she thinking? He would've expected more from a team captain, but...it wasn't his problem. Though it had distracted him from the bludger heading towards Finn, that subsequently hit the older boy. He felt guilty about that, but at least Finn seemed to be coping well, after the attacks. But once again, both bludgers were heading towards him, so Billy couldn't do anything but defend him. He flew over there, and tried to hit the bludger from Oscar towards Melody...it was too late to hit towards Casey, despite wanting to as she was about to shoot (having caught the pass from Scott who had stolen from Sophia), and Finn needed all the help he could get at this stage! He hoped Sydney would join him to defend Finn from the other bludger...they couldn't afford to lose a seeker at this stage!

Great. Now Cass was out of the game! She was a great Beater. What were they supposed to do now? Casey was already giving the game her all but there was only so much she could do. She stuck with the pace of the other players, keeping up as best she could. Casey was a fast flyer, but the dodging obviously slowed her speed. Scott had the quaffle and Casey tried her best to keep herself open for a pass. Casey caught it easily and smiled widely. Then she took off to the Hufflepuff goals. Hopefully she would score before anything could happen to stop her.

Not one, but TWO Bludgers. Apparently this was Finn's lucky day. He did see Billy coming to his rescue though, and hopefully Sydney would do the same. The last Bludger had managed to hit him, but it wasn't too bad of a hit. First Cass, and now all the Bludgers. He couldn't seem to get a break. "Do I have a black onminous cloud pointing at me or something?" he asked out loud, not really speaking to anybody as he attempted to roll to one side, trying to dodge the oncoming Bludgers. Amidst his spinning, he kept an eye out for any glimpse of gold, but focusing while spinning was no easy task.

Sydney felt like it was her fault Finn got hit, so this time, she hung around him to keep him safe. The chasers can do their own work for a little-- Finn was getting a personal attack and Syd wasn't about to let that happen. She laughed out loud as Finn shouted and tried to dodge the bludgers. While Syd hoover and tried to deflect one with her bat.

A glance at Finn allowed Melody to see her rival getting hit by one of Oscar's Bludgers, and she felt a bit heartened to know that she wasn't alone in this - her Beaters were trying to help her. Given that they'd made sure there were no Bludgers coming her way at the moment, she knew that she needed to use the time to search for the Snitch. Happily, Finn didn't seem to have spotted it yet. She scanned the skies around her systematically, ready to streak towards any spot of gold or glint that she might see. At this stage in the game, any Seeker was bound to be getting a bit flighty.

A glance down below told Oscar that his chasers had not yet succeeded in shooting again - it looked like Ivy's decision to bring Seth into the game had definitely been the right one. Gritting his teeth Oscar turned to watch his Bludger make its way towards Finn - only to come speeding back his way, aimed at Melody. Before Oscar could shoot off after it another one shot past, Julius' attack on Finn deflected by Syndey; again to Melody. Gripping the wood beneath his fingers tighter he prepared for the jarring sensation he flew for and approached one of the Bludgers closest to him, shouting at Julius to take the other - before realising his fellow Beater was already there. Grinning from the realisation that they seemed to work pretty well together, Oscar aimed for the same target as the elder Gryffindor.

Julius growled indiscriminately when his attack was thwarted by Sydney Rawson. He smiled despite himself though, glad to have a challenge. His grin almost disappeared though when he saw that same bludger heading torwards Melody. Gritting his teeth, he chased after it, intending to help her, but Oscar was already on the tail of that one. He saw another bludger heading torwards Melody as well, and without slowing down he chased after it. He caught up with it and decided that Finn would be his target again, that pesky Seeker was gonna get hit again sometime. Aiming at Finn, he swung ferosciously at the bludger. Mikayla was surprised when they called her in as chaser. It was a position she rarely played, but she wasn't going to disagree as she watched her captain get thrown out of the game by Hooch. "Cassie," Mikayla tried to keep the laughter from her voice as she jumped on her broom and shot off into the sky. There wasn't much for her to really do...not that she knew much about what she was doing. But that didn't stop her from shooting off in an attempt to intercept the pass from the keeper to one of his players.

For the second time during this match, Seth felt a strong sense of euphoria, glee and pride wash over him. It was an unfamiliar feeling, but it was certainly pleasant. He was delighted! He grasped the Quaffle tight between his fingers, flushed with the knowledge he had saved it for his team for the second time. His brain wasn't functioning properly with his happiness, but he soon caught himself staring avidly at the red ball. The sounds of the crowd and his team quickly brought him back and he looked up around him. Now he just had to pass the Quaffle to his teammate successfully - hopefully not like last time. Seth frowned. He wasn't great at passing. But he had to try, he had to do it. His fingers, white against the Quaffle, raised it over his head as he prepared to pass. But who to? His eyes scanned the area, from Sophia to Ivy to Chace, and finally decided he would pass to his best friend. "Chace!" he yelled, throwing the Quaffle to the other Seventh Year boy, "Heads up!" Seth watched his pass fly and hoped it would get to Chace safely. A blur of red was zooming towards the Quaffle as well, and Seth, in his desperation, also shouted as his arms flailed helplessly, "Incoming Gryffindor!!!"

Now that was what you called teamwork. Finn watched happily as Billy and Sydney deflected both Bludgers away from him and toward Melody. He felt somewhat bad for the younger girl, but at least now he might have a chance to do some searching while she and her teammates were busy dealing with the Bludgers.
"You guys rock!" He shouted toward the pair of Beaters in yellow. "Now if you could just help me find that bloody Snitch!" he added with a laugh as he flew off. Surely he would find it soon. The game seemed to be at a standstill as far as scoring was concerned. The Chasers were playing a fairly even game, and the Keepers seemed eager to prevent any further scoring from the opposite site. In fact, Seth had just made a nice save which kept Gryffindor from taking the lead.
Where was that sneaky little guy?

If Melody had been the sort to cry at misfortune, she could have been forgiven for crying now - both Bludgers were set on a collision course for her. In fact, she smiled a little as she saw that Oscar and Julius were both coming to her defence. She glanced towards Finn, who still showed no sign of having seen the Snitch, and was reassured as always. She knew that it could be necessary to start trying to get away from either Bludger at any moment, so for now she waited, ready to put on a burst of speed, and looking down for any sign of the Snitch, each Bludger just in the corner of her eye.

Chace easily caught the pass that Seth passed to him. He gave a smile to Mikayla before flying off toward the Gryffindor goal. It was time to give his younger sister some more practice. Chace had a passing thought on how funny it was that it would be the two Coxen kids facing each other once again. Surely, Ry would not let another shot past her. Then again, what could she do to stop him? Looking out for oncoming Bludgers or Chasers that would want the Quaffle back he made his way to hoops. The air felt cold against his bare skin but it felt good as he was sweating under his uniform. It seemed impossible to be cold and hot at the same moment but here he was. Checking once more to see that his path was clear, he took the shot.

Post by Wynd Lehane on Mar 19, 2009 8:44:02 GMT
Wynd sighed to himself. He couldn't decide who to root for. Who was the less of two evils? He knew that as a commentator he should be unbiased but as a human being it was tough. There would always be someone who he wanted to lose. And right now, he wanted both teams to lose. Gryffindor had won their earlier match against Slytherin so he didn't want them to win and Hufflepuff was currently in last place so they could stay there as far as he was concerned. Maybe the game would end in a draw. He couldn't recall a Quidditch game ever ending in a draw but he was sure it had happened at least once in the history of the sport. Maybe if both Seekers were to fall ill at the same time. It could happen. Then Madam Hooch would have no choice but to end this cursed game.
He was supposed to be here with his sister but she wanted to comment on the game as much as he did. One of them had to comment though since Aurora would not have been impartial and Kael was on one of the teams. In the end they had flipped a coin for it and he had lost. Thus here he was in the freezing air watching a game he could care less about. He supposed he wanted Hufflepuff to win over Gryffindor but that was only so Gryffindor didn't pull ahead so much in the Quidditch standings. On principal, he thought Hufflepuff shouldn't win anything but this was for a good cause. Anytime that Gryffindor could be made to look foolish was a worthy cause.
"Neither team seems to be able to make any headway," Wynd continued with his commentary. The sonorus spell making his voice carry over the crowd. "In fact the most exciting part of this game seems to be Cassandra Fallon's attempt to be devious. My question is, what was she trying to do? Surely she must have realised that even were she to remove Finn from the game, Ivy could have put in someone else. The only thing to come of her attempt was for her to be kicked off the pitch. I wonder how her vice captain Oscar Flynn is dealing with that. I only vaguely know Oscar," Wynd's mind flashed back to the night where he and other prefects met. A small smile came to his face. "And for a Gryffindor, I must say he has a good head on his shoulders." Wynd realised that the entire pitch had just heard his private thought. He cleared his throat. "Back to the game.
"Once again Scott has possession of the Quaffle as he passes to Casey. Hufflepuff tries and fails to steal and intercept. Casey has the Quaffle. Hmm... a Gryffindor Chaser with the Quaffle and a fumbling opposition? what could be next? Perhaps she will try to score. And I was right. Casey attempts to score only to have her plans foiled by Seth Wright. The boy who has trouble in Ancient Runes, as told to me by my sister, has now saved two goals. He passes to Chace the Hufflepuff Vice Captain. He looks like he wants to score. Will he do it?" Wynd rolled his eyes at the corny line. Searching the skies for either one of the Seekers he continued, "Oi! Melody or Finn, where's the damn Snitch and why haven't you caught it yet?"

The pass landed safe in Chace's arms. Seth grinned in triumph and watched as his best friend flew off to the other side of the pitch - to score. Seth hoped no one would get in his way. He was watching Chace rather intently, with great pride, when the sound of his own name caused him to jump in surprise. He almost fell off his broom with his shocked antics, before he uprighted himself to look round, blinking and confused. Finally, he located the source of noise - the commentary box. Seth narrowed his eyes and tried to make out the blurs of green robes. Slytherins. Great. Was it really wise for Slytherins to be commentating during a match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff? Seth found it odd he hadn't noticed the commentary until now. He was so inattentive. The voice sounded familiar, and when his eyes finally locked onto the face of a boy he recognised from the year below, Seth nodded to himself. He didn't know his name - he didn't know many people's names at all, really - but he knew him as a prefect. But wait - wasn't he on the Slytherin Quidditch team? Wasn't his name Windy... or something ridiculous like that? 'Windy's' comment about Seth's Ancient Runes abilities made him realise this boy had a sister... but who the heck was his sister? Oh wait. Weren't they on the Quidditch team together? Must be those twins, he thought. Then, Seth registered what exactly the commentating boy had said, and flushed indignantly. So he wasn't that good at Ancient Runes - but he wasn't that bad!

Oscar and Syd have been playing back and forth all game, practically. He was a good beater and with that said, he made Syd's job that much more exciting. It seemed like in the standings they were neck and neck and were an even match. Syd would only hope that one of her bludgers would make it past him at one point- she hoped; and she knew he did the same. She shook her head as she saw her bludger ricochet off of his bat. "Damnit." She shot as she darted along side Finn. "Keep sharp. You're doing awesome." Syd said as she leveled up beside Finn trying to catch the bludger before it got to the Hufflepuff Seeker.

Oh just great! Casey missed another goal. The Hufflepuffs were really stepping up their game. What was she supposed to do? Casey was getting frustrated with herself. She just had focus. Casey swerved around all the players making her way to Chace. She had to get to him before he scored. “Coxen!” Casey yelled from his left side. Then she quickly swerved over to the other. Casey tried her best to ignore the Quidditch Commentator which was a difficult task because Casey was always easily distracted. Casey narrowed in on Chace and reached for the quaffle, hoping to steal it back.

Oscar scowled as the last cries finally died down from the Gryffindor stands in Cass's wake, his brows creasing in irritation. Gryffindor's best beater was now out of the game - was that really something to cheer about? At least the familiar feel of his bat smacking against heavy iron cheered him up slightly. His quick defending seemed to work well enough and he sent the Bludger back to Finn - and knew that Syndey would be there, as always, to try and slam it back his way. Oscar noted that Julius' defence had not been so successful. The Bludger he had attempted to throw off course hit Melody with a force that made Oscar wince. It also made him all the more determined to hit Finn again; that last one hadn't been nearly hard enough. Despite the venom in these thoughts he assured himself that he couldn't worry about his friend's health, and pushing for a harder attack on Finn would be the best thing here.
As he sped up to seize control of the Bludger that fell away from Melody the commentating reached his ears. At Wynd Lehane's words Oscar laughed loudly and attempted to shout back, not caring if his voice was caught in the winds and didn't even reach Wynd. "Thanks very much, Lehane!?" He guessed that the Slytherin hadn't meant to sound so complimentary of Oscar in his words and was amused that he seemed to have a 'good head' on his shoulders; it was quite a new thing to hear.

Finn laughed to himself as Wynd's voice bellowed over the crowd, inquiring about the lack of a Snitch catch from either side. Clearly he and Melody weren't intentionally dragging out the length of the game. They had no control over the Snitch's appearance. If the speedy ball wanted to stay hidden for a bit longer, then that's what it would do. Perhaps it didn't feel like being caught today. Either that, or Finn and Melody had been too distracted to see it. With Cass's actions and the usual strategy of Bludgering the Seekers, that could have well been the case.
As Sydney zoomed past to save him, Finn smiled at her words. She sure was working hard to keep him safe. He was also grateful to see that Oscar had picked a different Hufflepuff target as Chace was trying to give Hufflepuff the lead. Not that Finn wanted Chace to be hit by a Bludger, but he was just happy to have just one Bludger coming after him, rather than two.
