Well, the game was going better than it had been… Mary just needed to remind herself of that. Otherwise she would go crazy, people told her it was just a game… those people were foolish. Quidditch did not simply live itself out as a game to her, it wasn’t exactly the air she breathed, but it was nearly as important. What would Mary have ever done with herself if it wasn’t for trying to spite her mother by trying out for quidditch? Who would have thought she would be good at it, never mind come to live by it.
Nearly as soon as Kailyn had reached the ground Mary noticed a disturbance in her chasers. “Olivia, go sit a bit! Valak, you’re back up as chaser.” Mary called to the girls. Hopefully that would help the chasers get their bearings a bit.
Captains duties dealt with Mary returned to being a beater, just in time to notice her seeker once more under attack.

Adalia wasn’t a totally rubbish keeper, apparently. Her quaffle made it into the hands of Julian safely. Anything after that was not her fault, including the fact that suddenly the Gryffindor chasers were on her again. Granted, Slytherin had scored and such in between, but they had also lost possession a few times.
The day was clear as Adalia watched the figures in red, and some in green come towards her end of the pitch. No telling yet just what they were going to do but Adalia knew they Gryffindor chasers wanted past her pretty badly… Well, she had something she could do about that. Breaking into the Double Eight Loop she had been practicing all summer Adalia guarded the hoops she had been placed to defend.

Emotions checked, Cass got back in the game. Cass was a wreck about this game. Her legacy as Gryffindor captain rested on the outcome of it. That was a lot of stress for one person to deal with. The slytherin match was the biggest one of the year, and she wasn't about to go down in this one. Oscar had slipped into the beater position easily, and was doing his job well even though he had slipped up a bit earlier. Riley had the quaffle now. As she made her way to the Slytherin goals, Cass held her breath. It was becoming very obvious that the teams were equally matched in strength and performance. They were going to have to step it a bit to beat the snakes.

Dylan mounted his broom, and kicked off from the ground launching himself into a fast, steady flight. He wasn't quite sure what was wrong with him, but he had a sharp pain erupt in his stomach, and could barely focus on what needed to be focused on. But, he shook it off. He was sure it was nothing serious. He'd just go and give Madam Pomfrey a visit later. Besides, it got Kennedy's little sister a little playing time and experience, so it was all good, especially since she was now being given the chance to play chaser, which would help her that much more. Refocusing, he went to do what needed to be done.

Julian cursed again at the missed steal. How the bloody hell was he not doing better in his game? He wasn't letting Cassandra distract him now that she had moved herself from beater to keeper. He spun his broom around and chased after Riley, he wasn't sure what he was going to do, but perhaps another steal could be given a try. Catching up with her, he looked around, he didn't want to let her score without some shot of stealing the ball.

No sooner had Kailyn found her way to the bench than it seemed Mary was calling for her again. She was a bit surprised, but pleased nonetheless. As well, she'd be playing Chaser, her preferred position, the position she had watched Kennedy practice all his years. "Have fun warming the bench, Manning," she said with a playful jeer as she mounted her broom and flew back into the action. As a Chaser, she'd be joining Wynd and Julian. Since she had never played Chaser in a game before and this was Julian's first game as well, that made Wynd the veteran of the trio. Kailyn wondered if he'd be his usual confident and bossy self. Sometimes it annoyed her, but that was because she had always despised authority or those who tried to take authority over her. Perhaps though for the benefit of the team, she should at least consider seeing what Wynd was doing before launching herself into action. As much as she hated to admit it, Kailyn had a lot to learn about Quidditch. She wasn't going to be a superstar in just one match. Seeing that the Gryffindor Chaser whom she had tried to interfere with was flying down the pitch just behind another Gryffindor Chaser with the Quaffle, Kailyn decided to follow them. Surely Wynd and Julian would be on their tails trying to get the Quaffle back. Kailyn figured it'd be best to stick near the action so that she'd be ready for a pass or perhaps in the right position to steal or intercept. Though, if she got the Quaffle, she'd have to know exactly where Wynd and Julian were at all times. Good trios of Chasers knew what the others were thinking. They knew each others' moves. Kailyn was hardly confident to be able to say she knew what Wynd and Julian were thinking, aside from what most teenage boys were thinking, and she didn't really want to go there. ((Since I'm not officially subbed in by Hooch, I won't do an action this round. I just wanted to post Kailyn getting back into the game. )

Scott felt the presence of someone on his one side, clearly trying to gain possession of the Quaffle. He saw that it was Julian, which could be expected. It seemed Julian and Wynd were the powerhouses for the Slytherins today. The third Chaser hadn't seemed to be around much, a blonde girl, Olivia, that Scott only knew from class and nothing else. Perhaps it was just like the Gryffindor team though. He and Riley seemed to be on task, yet neither Casey or Rosaliz seemed to be able to mesh well with the two of them yet. Both teams seemed to be running on two effective Chasers, which, in the long run, meant that they'd play rather equally until one team managed to get all three Chasers on the same level. As he watched his pass sail successfully to Riley, Scott's stomach tightened when he realized how easy of a shot she had. Shoot! he said to himself, not wanting to shout it this time and let Slytherin gain any sort of advantage from knowing that it was likely what Riley would do. If she was smart, and he didn't doubt that she was, Riley would realize that Adalia seemed to be flying in a sort of pattern. It was beneficial for covering all the hoops, but if Riley planned it right, she could make sure to estimate Adalia's path and calculate which hoop was best to target at any given point of her repetitive loop. Out of the corner of Scott's eye, he caught another approaching blur of green. He figured it to be Olivia, but the dark locks of hair showed that it couldn't be Olivia. Instead, it was the same girl who had almost knocked him of his broom. She was back in the game, but this time, she didn't have a bat. Let's see how good you are now, Scott thought as his temper flared inside of him. He made it a point to veer to his left, just enough that she'd either have to go out of her way to fly around him or simply smack right into him. He was bigger than her though, so he simply held his broom tight in case she decided to collide. He wouldn't be surprised if she did. ((Just keeping it interesting... Go Riley! ))

She'd been saved from the big bad Bludger, Melody thought and grinned. If she'd had her bat, she'd have been perfectly capable of looking after herself, but as it was she was a wee bit defenceless. Feeling a bit safer and a bit more confident that her team's Beaters would defend her, Melody allowed her attention to wander a little bit, listening first to the commentary, and then, her attention directed to the change in the lineup of Chasers. She watched in alarm as Scott seemed to be set on a collision course with the new Slytherin Chaser. Was he out of his mind? Of course, she hadn't been paying attention to what had been going on with all the players while she'd been busy as the Seeker, so perhaps she'd missed something. It still didn't seem like a very good idea, though.
Shaking her head a little to herself, Melody flew over to hover above the crowd on the other side of the pitch. This was the Slytherin side, and she actually got a few things thrown at her. Only one of them came close though - she was quite high and most people didn't have aim that good or arms strong enough to throw far enough to reach her. She wasn't too worried by it. She was a little worried, however, that Josephine might find the Snitch before her. But she wasn't going to start watching the other Seeker's every move yet. She was still going to see if she could spot the thing herself, like a proper Seeker.

Riley was excited that Slytherin had failed to keep the Quaffle in their possession, and Gryffindor now had the large red ball once more. She wasn't surprised really, despite the recent Slytherin score Gryffindor seemed to be playing a perfect game today. No matter what happened, the "bravery" team seemed to be dominating the pitch today, and it seemed that it didn't matter how "cunning" the Slytherins were it was still going to be Gryffindor who won the game. But she didn't want to get too overconfident. Hubris was the one trait that undid even the most impecible of plans. Riley had to keep her head in the game. She held the Quaffle close to her chest, guarding it with her life. She'd be damned if that Slytherin chaser was going to steal this from her. She continued to fly toward the hoops, realizing she had a perfect shot at the goal posts. She noticed the keeper flying in a very typical movement, so Riley calculated quickly the best time to score. Also noticing the bludger coming her way, Riley threw the ball toward the left goal post while the keeper was almost at the right. It seemed to be flying a perfect path into the post. Hopefully nothing would stop it from entering. Riley! The bludger! Riley reminded herself at the last second and quickly tried to dodge out of the way before it hit her.

Cass' hand slammed against the shaft of the broom as her husband took back the quaffle for the Slytherin team. Swearing and fuming, all she could do was sit in front of the hoops. She wanted to be in the game, not sitting here waiting for the Slytherins to score! With the way her team was playing, they would probably be scoring at any moment! It seemed that none of her chasers had their head in the game. "What are you three doing? This is quidditch, not a bloody ballet! I don't need you pirouetting with their chasers! Keep the bloody quaffle!" She screamed this at her chasers. Muttering, she settled back down on her broom. She just didn't understand what was happening. "You three! Get your heads in the game or get out of it!"

Post by Oscar Flynn G7 on Nov 1, 2008 1:30:34 GMT
Seeker, or chaser? C’mon Flynn- seeker or chaser! The answer to who he would defend was obvious. He was already closer to Melody; Riley was nearer the goal posts when Dylan sent his bludger her way. In the moment that Oscar hesitated however, the tables turned. How quick the game of Quidditch was! All players were moving so fast it was almost a blur. In a flash the Quaffle had changed hands, bringing about a low hiss from Oscar. He was so, so tempted to launch the Bludger he was about to go for at Julian once more. But he resisted. Cass had made her feelings obvious and Oscar knew it only made sense to attack the Slytherin seeker. He sped up slightly to catch up with Melody as she crossed pitch sides. With another mighty swing, Oscar attempted to defend the little seeker with all his strength. It was a bludger from Mary- it would not be weak. Once he had put his energy into that, an irritating jeering sound reached his ears. He turned for just a moment and scowled automatically. The stupid Slytherin crowd appeared to be taunting Melody. Oscar knew that he should leave it- this was a Quidditch game, not something he could momentarily jump out of to have an argument. He was just turning halfway when something out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. In a second he had snapped back and glared down into the crowds. They had thrown something at Melody! Of all the idiotic and pathetic ways they could have chosen to slow the Gryffindor game down, they had to do this. With an angry tone Oscar threw the crowds his angriest glare.
“What the heck do you think you’re doing?! You have so little faith in your team and their ability to win, you feel you have to resort to stopping us yourselves?! That’s brilliant bloody showmanship, idiots.” Oscar used a word a little stronger than 'heck' as a result of his annoyance. His narrowed eyes pulled away from the people below. He had a game to attend to. Although he would have loved to continue he knew that he could not- Cass surely would have something to say about that. Pulling himself back into the game he made sure that the crowd weren’t throwing anything else, before tuning in to Cass’s angry words at the Gryffindor chasers. Taking the words right out of my mouth. He thought to himself. He was not so angry that he couldn’t keep focused, but more irritated than anything else. How did the Slytherin get the Quaffle? Oscar didn’t shout out, deciding that the chasers were getting enough of that from their captain. But he was tempted to remind them that the Quaffle was not magic, like the Snitch. If they held on tight enough and didn’t mind getting a bit rough with anyone that tried to steal it from them, the Quaffle would obediently stay in their possession.

Josephine didn't even try to acknowledge the fact that the Gryffindor beaters were obviously obsessed with taking her out. She was far more than annoyed by this fact and was on her last nerve. Who did they think they were? Just because they couldn't win this game without taking her out should have been a huge compliment, but Josephine was within an inch of just hexing them all where they flew. She was done...sick, tired, and just done with it. At least she hadn't gotten hit by the last one, thanks all to Mary. She hadn't been paying attention to notice it so it was a very good thing that her team was actually working.
So that meant it was her turn. Josephine shot up, trying to avoid the new bludger headed in her direction as her eyes darted around the pitch. This game was lasting forever and she was no closer to finding the snitch than the Gryffindor seeker...at least she hoped the Gryffindor seeker wasn't close to finding it. That would make for one heck of a battle.

“Dang it.” Casey muttered under her breath. Julian snatched the quaffle from Riley, Oh well. They would simply have to try harder. Casey shook her head as she headed into the action wanting to get the quaffle back from Julian. It was then Casey heard the screams of someone. It was Cass. Casey eyed her curiously as she tried to remain focused. She had never really heard Cass scream before. Then again, she probably didn’t love the idea of losing to her husband’s team, but Casey wasn’t sure of that of course. She didn’t know much about Cass and Julian’s relationship really. Cass continued to yell at the Chasers. She wanted to say something but there was no time and Casey wasn’t one to talk back. If anyone got mad it would probably be Riley. Casey shook her head and listened to her captain’s harsh words. She was right. They had to try harder. So that was exactly what Casey would do. Casey flew straight into the action. So far in the game she hadn’t been able to do much, everything had been too tight. Riley and Scott had been the dominant chasers and Casey would try her best to get back in the game and help her team out.

Melody smiled as Oscar yelled angrily at the Slytherin crowd which had launched a few ineffective missiles at her. It was just a few people had decided to do that, she was sure, and she wasn't too bothered by it. But it was great to have the moral support of the Gryffindor team's Vice Captain. She caught Oscar's eye and smiled gratefully at him. His eyes seemed intense with his annoyance and that reminded her that she'd better just get on with her job. In a normal game, she'd have been playing in Oscar's position if she'd been playing at all rather than staying put on the bench as a reserve. She couldn't believe her luck this game. Having thus reminded herself of how fortunate she was, Melody's face broke out into a newly delighted grin and she moved a little higher, out of reach of the crowd, looking up into the clouds and hoping that the Snitch would just happen to whiz past in the patch of sky she was able to watch.

Riley snarled at the Slytherin that had stolen the ball from her but remained in her place. It seemed that their third chaser, one who had remained pretty inactive throughout most of the game had been able to get herself to a position to make a difference. The girl's name was Casey Allen and she always seemed to be either with some older Hufflepuff boy and the other girl in their dormitory. That was pretty much as far as things went with them, though. Riley sighed as she waited, hoping Casey would be able to steal the Quaffle from Slytherin before they attempted to do any sort of damage. Once Casey had managed to retrieve the ball from the Slytherin boy's hands, Riley looked straight at her fellow chaser, alerting her to her presence. Casey couldn't shoot yet, so her only other option was to pass. Riley waited for the girl's decision.

Kailyn could barely believe her eyes. What was Julian Fallon doing? Quidditch? More like doing some dodgy dance moves on a broomstick! She snarled angrily under her breath at his incompetence. How could he just let a fifth year girl steal the Quaffle from him? He was useless! Rolling her eyes, Kailyn wasted no time surging forwards on her broomstick, sweeping past Julian in the process. "Nice going, Fallon," she shot at his nastily, then concentrated her eye on more worthy things: such as Casey Allen. They were in the same year, around the same age, but Kailyn had no mercy for anyone, especially on the Quidditch pitch. She forced her broomstick to fly faster, catching up to the lithe figure of Casey, and finally was flying side by side, speed for speed beside the Gryffindor. Sneering maliciously, Kailyn lurched forwards the moment she thought she saw an opportunity - Casey's hand shifting a little for her own to dart out and smack at the Quaffle to try to dislodge it and grab the red ball for herself. "Gotcha now, Allen!" she yelled determinedly, swerving rather dangerously at her fellow fifth year.

Wynd could not intercept the pass but Julian then came out of nowhere to steal the Quaffle! And he got it! But then like a sack of potatoes he just sat there and watched as one of the Gryffindor Chasers came and stole it from him. Wynd was flabbergasted. He could not let this little slip slide. He flew beside the seventh year and slapped the back of his head. Not hard. Just enough to get his attention. "What the bloody hell was that about! Are you in a daze? Stop listening to your wife and play for Slytherin. Slytherin. Not Gryffindor. Blast it!" He gave a dirty look at the older boy before flying after the girl Chaser. What was with his team? One second they seemed really into the game and then the next they were worried about who knows what! There was no way that Wynd was going to let Slytherin win. Never.
