She got it, thank goodness. It would have been humiliating to let in the first shot ever sent towards her. Finally something went the way it should for Slytherin. Hopefully they could keep this momentum going, there was little worse than losing to Gryffindors. Well there was, when they tried to be “gracious” about it. Bleh, everyone knew they were arrogant brats, nothing gracious, nothing elegant, nothing of any note to their persons. One thing they did have, though, was an incredible ability to get in their way. Adalia held the quaffle tight in one hand as she hovered before the hoops looking for a bit of free green.
Soon Adalia noticed the boy who had come into the game with her, Julian, trying to catch her attention while staying free of Gryffindor attention. Adalia turned half away from him and passed the quaffle to the side. Hopefully those foolish players in red would be thrown off by her change in direction… and hopefully Julian didn’t stop watching her when she seemed to ignore him.

Julian had made himself available and it was just in time. He looked around, and saw that there were others closing in, he hoped that he would be able to catch the quaffle, his butterflies doing loops the same way they had when he learned that Cass was pregnant and still wanted to play quidditch. He noticed the look on Adalia's face, and gave a nod just slight enough for her to notice so that she would understand that he was ready to recieve the pass.

((There are two Bludgers heading toward Melody right?)) Rex was a little shocked that his captain was already yelling at him and he had just been a Beater for a few seconds. Both Bludgers were headed straight at Josephine so there was little for a Gryffindor Beater to do. What was he supposed to do? Defend the Slytherin Seeker? But she was the captain and she just wanted the team to do their best he supposed. But if she yelled at him again, he was perfectly content to do nothing and be replaced. He couldn't really understand why she had removed him from the coveted spot of Seeker. Sure, his mind was some well else these past few minutes and it was a lot more fun to flirt with Melody than to search for a golden ball, but that was no reason to switch him. Oh well. ((Since both of the Bludgers are sent by Mary and Cass is defending against one, I guess I defend against the other Defending Melody and Deflecting to Julian))

Cassandra hadn't let Melody down - she was safe from the Bludger closest to her. However, Rex appeared to have given a rather more puny swing at the other Bludger, and she was forced to take her own evasive action in order to avoid being hit by that one. Oh well. At least he'd sort of tried, though she wasn't sure whether he'd tried his hardest (naturally, it did seem like that when you'd just had to nose-dive sharply to get out of the way of a Bludger). Perhaps he resented having to play as Beater. Everyone knew that Rex Carter was an excellent Seeker; the Gryffindor team knew that on most days, he was better as Seeker than as Beater. Cassandra had been kind enough to put Melody as Seeker for now, though, and Melody was still thrilled about it: the novelty wasn't about to wear off.
Anyhow. Back to the job at hand - the Snitch hadn't been hiding behind the Bludger that had come closest to Melody, at least not that she'd seen. Perhaps she'd dived too soon. But it was most likely that it just hadn't been there in the first place. Where else might it be? Hiding up someone's sleeve... well that situation would be hopeless, she'd never find it there even if it was, and she couldn't exactly start tapping people in the crowd politely on the arm and asking whether they'd mind her checking whether they were harbouring a stowaway Snitch. But it could well be in the crowd. There were enough glinting watches there, for sure. She hovered right at the edge of the pitch, so that could benefit from a bird's-eye view of the crowd.

Wynd brushed a strand of hair away from his eyes as Cassandra tried to insult him. She could scream and holler until she was blue in the face but her insults would never rival those of Slytherins and therefore would never bother him. "Please don't waste your breath with empty threats," he answered her. "We all know Gryffindors don't have the heart to break the rules." He then aimed his broom at a better vantage point and fly off. He was tired of looking at a woman with bat envy. He watched as Scott took another shot at the goal. Weren't they required to pass before they could take another go? The new Slytherin Keeper caught it though. She seemed to have a better head on her shoulders than Drake did. Trying to steal the Quaffle from a Chaser? Come on. That might have been cute behavior from a Hufflepuff. The key word: Might. Adalia looked around and found that Julian was open. Tossing the ball to him he was now in possession of the Quaffle. He hadn't done anything with it yet and it was almost like he did not know what to do. "Fallon!" Wynd yelled at him. "Either fly to the other end of the pitch and make a goal or pass the bloody Quaffle to Dawson or I!" ((I'm open ))

Julian was a bit shocked that he now had possession of the quaffle, but it only took him a minute to come back to his senses. Of course, hearing Wynd yelling at him helped a bit. He took off toward the other end of the pitch. He knew that the other chasers were open, but he wanted to try to score for his team anyway. If it came to the point that he was blocked, then he would worry about passing. The hoops were closing in and he flew a bit faster, his firebolt not slowing down. Julian pulled himself to a slow just in front of the Gryff keeper. A quick swoop to the left allowed him to get a halfway open shot toward the hoops. A quick launch of the quaffle and all he could do was hope that the keeper wouldn't catch it before it went in.

Post by Oscar Flynn G7 on Oct 27, 2008 1:31:42 GMT
Oscar had kept his eyes on most of the game, aware and alert for any movement towards his precious goal posts. He felt like some sort of dragon guarding its treasured den full of stolen rubies and whatever it was that dragons felt like stealing. Or... some sort of insanely possessive man with a beautiful partner, getting paranoid that everyone was trying to take her (or him) from his clutches. Yes, something like that. When Scott had scored Oscar’s response had been hard to hear; the deafening cheers from the crowd around the pitch had been so loud. But he had cheered, had roared with relief; Gryffindor were doing well. The next attempt to score failed and quickly the hands that held the Quaffle switched; from Gryffindor to Slytherin, from paws to... whatever snakes could hold a Quaffle with. Fangs? Well, whatever. The point was the Quaffle was now in Slytherin’s possession. Oscar was, essentially, needed. Unfortunately there had been one tiny problem with his master plan to defend his goals in the manner that the possessive man or proud dragon might protect their treasures with. Since he was a child Oscar had been scared of most things insect or bug-like. And one winged creature that he really despised was the wasp. Now, high in the sky, a wasp had just so happened to have flown towards him. Oscar didn’t notice it at first. There was after all a determined seventh year Slytherin speeding his way. Even though it is hard to ignore the whining sound of a wasp’s buzz, and even more so when you have a bad history with the things, Oscar did not pay attention to the wasp flitting around him.
His eyes narrowed, his body leaning forwards on his sturdy new broom, Oscar was ready to protect his treasure, slay the intruder and insult the idiot that was trying to steal his partner. At least he was until something jabbed aggressively at his neck. “Aaarrgh!" He bellowed angrily. The surprise of being stung and the fact that the wasp had found its sting a home in a very sensitive part of his body, resulted in Oscar immediately being thrown into confusion as to what to do next. The transition from being ready to defend his hoops to clutching his neck and biting down hard on his lip made him disorientated for a moment. Biting his lip unfortunately made things worse; a coppery taste that he knew to be blood soon filled his mouth. So much for his spectacular saves. One hand still at his neck- where he could still feel the wasp sticking out of his flesh and wriggling, confused as to why it’s seemingly immobile victim was now so active- he realised that the stupid Slytherin reptile had managed to get closer and was now directly before Oscar.
In a mad attempt to regain some sort of dignity as Keeper, Oscar let out an angry bellow that definitely identified him as a lion, and threw himself before the hoop. Luckily Fallon had not tried to feign his attempt to shoot- if he had done so Oscar would have most likely headed towards the wrong hoop in his sudden hasty state of mind. But the Slytherin shot simple and straight. Although he had barely one second to work out that yes, his neck was now the throbbing home to a wasp, and that his goals were indeed being attacked, Oscar thought (while almost slipping from his broom in the chaos of the attempts to save) he had a fairly good chance of blocking the Quaffle. Sure, the strength wasn’t all there. The wasp had made sure that Oscar hadn’t had time to put his full body into the block. But the passion and need certainly clear for all to see.
((Defending his hoops of course. ))

A one out of two success rate wasn't terrible, Scott decided. He was determined to increase his odds though as he watched Riley fail to intercept the pass from the Slytherin Keeper to their newest Chaser to come into play. Scott saw this as a chance to try to keep the momentum on Gryffindor's side and prevent Slytherin from even getting a chance to even the score.
Julian had a bit of a lead on Scott, but having the Quaffle was often distracting and tended to make one's flying a bit less swift and precise. Scott would use this to his advantage. As well, he hoped that the other Chasers might help him out a bit. Riley was around, but where was Rosaliz? Scott hadn't really even noticed her since Casey had been substituted out.
Zooming toward the Gryffindor hoops, Scott saw Julian nearing a range where he'd be able to shoot if he wanted. Why was nobody else on the Gryffindor team doing anything to stop him? It seemed as though the Beaters must have been too busy in a battle to protect the Seekers. Scott knew that if he didn't get the Quaffle from Julian, Oscar was left alone as a last defense. Scott trusted Oscar's abilities, but always relying on a last defense was never a way to ensure success. Scott was determined to allow Oscar to have an easy game. The less Slytherin could get near the hoops with the Quaffle, the less they'd have to rely on their last defense.
As he neared Oscar though, Scott noticed in a quick glance that he seemed a bit... distracted? Surely he wasn't surprised by Julian's coming attack. He had flown from one end to the other of the pitch, nobody in his way. Oscar had plenty of time to plan his defense. Scott knew though that he had to try to help Oscar out. He dipped, twisted, and dove, finding himself right in the mix of Julian, the Quaffle, Oscar, and the Gryffindor hoops. If only he could steal the Quaffle from Julian before he'd be able to take a shot.

Kailyn cursed the Bludger which managed to zoom past her and directly into the path of Josephine. Luckily, Jo's swift movement was enough to avoid a second collision. Too many hits with the heavy Bludgers would mean that Slytherin would resort to their second Seeker. Mary had been a bit more successful, and she stopped the other Bludger and sent it back at the Gryffindor Seeker. Kailyn knew that despite it being her first time in an official match, it was no excuse. She wasn't about to be a failure when it came to something that the entire school was watching.
Watching intently, Kailyn saw Mary chase after the Bludger that Josephine avoided and whack it at Melody as well. So that was how they'd play? Send all the Bludgers at the Seekers. Josephine figured she could handle that.
Before she knew it though, Cass had gotten in the way of the first Bludger and sent it right back at Jo. Damn, this was going to get old fast. Kailyn started to gain speed as she flew with a determination to succeed this time around. She figured that Mary would chase after the other Bludger which was free, and so she'd defend Jo since she was closest. While she was at it, Kailyn figured she'd send it at Melody if she could. After all, it's what Mary had done, and Kailyn was bound to be the best if it meant learning from the best.

Is Julian really about to score? Cass thought to herself. To her surprise, her husband was actually a pretty good player. Cass could feel the tide turning in the game again. Oscar needed to catch that ball. Scott was now rushing up to her husband to hopefully steal the quaffle. Cassandra was actually still steaming at Lehane's words. She would show Wynd soon enough. Flying up to Hooch, she asked for another line up change. "I'm pulling Rosaliz out. I'm putting Casey back in as chaser, I'm putting Oscar in as beater, and I'm taking the keeper position."

Josephine hadn't been paying attention...no she never seemed to be paying attention when she was off looking for the snitch. Becase of that however she suddenly was struck by another bludger. She hissed as she glared over at the Gryffindor who'd sent it her way. This was getting ridiculous. She growled and slipped around quickly into a u-turn and flew by Mary. "You going to defend me or are you going to just watch the bloody bludgers hit me, cause I'll just take that bat from you and defend myself if you won't," growls before she bolts back up in the sky to look for the snitch.

Kailyn was beginning to fear that she'd be heading toward a terrible performance for her first game. She had been unsuccessful in both attempts to save Josephine from the oncoming Bludgers. She watched though as Jo seemed to take her anger out on Mary instead. Kailyn wondered if it was because she and Jo were friends that she didn't seem to be upset with her. Either way, Kailyn's performance was disastrous. If she didn't soon start to do better, Mary would surely bench her. It seemed as though neither captain was hesitating when it came to substituting in new players or switching players' positions. Both teams wanted to win, and they seemed to be ready to flip and flop their rosters around until they found the right combination.
Noticing that both Bludgers were now flying freely at their own will, Kailyn flew hard after the one closest to her, deciding that perhaps it would help if she made the initial attack instead of trying to defend. With a mighty sweep of her bat, she connected with a solid smack and sent the ball barreling in the opposite direction. Her eyes narrowed as she watched it soar toward the huddle of Gryffindor Chasers. Then, she zoomed off toward Josephine, half expecting that it'd be a good idea to stay near her in case more Bludgers were sent her way. "Just catch the bloody thing already, Jo. Please. We're looking like a bunch of fools out here." Kailyn knew Jo didn't need to be reminded of her job, but even in her critical tone, Kailyn knew Jo would understand that she meant well. It was a shared understanding between them. No matter how biting their words were, they were like sisters at heart. Even sisters fought like cats now and then.

As of yet, no sign of the Snitch. How did other Seekers keep themselves from looking disconcerted at their ongoing lack of success? She supposed it was because they tended to be a smooth type of people who enjoyed attention, and even possibly believed that they could do no wrong - in other words, actors, performers. Melody hadn't yet learnt what it was right or wrong for a Seeker to do. She wondered whether she was doing the right thing, just looking. Was there some other secret that initiated Seekers knew about? Some other trick or tactic? Was she supposed to wait for it to just turn up and in the meantime watch the game without getting so distracted that she wouldn't notice it when it started bobbing up and down beside her in the same manner as her bunches? Or surreptitiously cast a Summoning Charm, perhaps? It was a shame that neither Scott or Rex had seen fit to let her into the secret before the game. She supposed they hadn't expected her to be playing in the position.
Oh well. Slytherin had just equalised, which was a shame but not really anything to do with her, she thought as she stared absentmindedly at an approaching cloud. The Snitch hadn't been hiding in the last one to blow overhead, but there was no reason why it couldn't be in this one.

The larger and more muscular Julian was able to keep Scott from getting the Quaffle. Even worse, Scott watched as Oscar had been too preoccupied to be able to stop Julian from scoring. The match was back to being tied. Scott bit his lip in frustration as Cass switched positions with Oscar and brought Casey back in to join himself and Riley. "Cass. Here!" Scott wanted her to pass it to him. He wasn't normally one who demanded the Quaffle, but somebody needed to take charge. "Riley, start flying and I'll get you the Quaffle. Adalia is a new Keeper. Just use a fake. It should take her a few times to get used to defending them in a game." Scott hurried to fly away from the Slytherin Chasers as he tried to find an open patch of air for Cass to throw him the pass. He hoped that Melody would soon find the Snitch as it seemed that the Quaffle game would be quite even among the teams despite Gryffindor's early dominance in the first few minutes. Oscar and Cassandra took a few moments to change positions. As he passed, she looked Oscar dead in the eye. "I want the slytherin seeker taken out at all costs." She handed Oscar the beater's bat. Taking the quaffle in her hands, she looked around for her chasers. She was livid that Julian had scored. One thing was for sure, it wouldn't be a quiet night in the Fallon household tonight. She faked to the opposite side, and then threw the quaffle to Scott.

It seemed like Wynd's words where having quite the effect today. His words to Scott seemed to disturb the Gryffindor captain a bit. He couldn't tell if she was more bothered that she couldn't hear the exact words Wynd had said to Scott or that Wynd had responded to her threat. Either way, she was fuming. Next, Wynd's words to Julian seemed to wake him up from his shock as he flew to the other end of the pitch and made a goal. Things were turning around quite nicely. Wynd had the thought that maybe he should take the megaphone away from the announcer so that he could insult the Gryffindors and everyone could hear him. That kind of behavior would probably get him evicted from the game and perhaps suspended from Quidditch. But it would still be fun. Cassandra had the ball and was searching for a Chaser she could pass the Quaffle. Whoever she chose, Wynd would be waiting.

Julian watched as Cass switched herself from beater to keeper. Bloody Hell. She's not going to make this easier on me is she? He thought to himself as he moved around the pitch, opening himself up for a pass from Wynd. He had done his best and had managed to score. Now with Cass at the hoops, he doubted it would be easy to do that again. Cass would be fuming with him after scoring against Gryffindor the way he had done. It was not going to be a loving meeting the next time the two got together. Julian shook the thoughts from his mind, and got his head back to the game. It was only a game and he would remind his beloved wife of that, and of the fact that he was only playing so that he could be closer to her, and they could have more in common. Julian would rather nervously watch her play from the bench or from being in the game, than to have to sit in the stands and guess where the bludgers had hit her. He was open, finally, still unsure of his luck. He motioned slightly to Wynd to let him know that he was available for a pass. ((I'm Open ))
