Jordan Cortes looked dreamily up at the starry sky. She smiled and remembered the warmth of the moon and thought of the times back at home. Under her breath she hummed a tune her mother used to sing to her as a young girl. She didnt realize someone was approaching her, but then again Jordan never realized when someone was approaching her.

Ivy walked outside into the courtyard. The air was surprisingly warm for this time of year. She didn't know exactly why she'd come here, but she found it was a good place to sit and think. She needed some time alone to do that at the moment.
There seemed to only be one other person in the courtyard. When Ivy looked closer, she saw that the person was Jordan. She didn't know Jordan especially well but they always got on amicably. Throwing aside her thoughts for some time spent brooding alone, Ivy strolled over to where Jordan was sitting.
She almost didn't know whether she should interrupt Jordan. She seemed so oblivious to her presence and just so... peaceful. That was never a word Ivy had used to describe Jordan before.
In the end she decided to go ahead. "Hi," she said, sitting down next to Jordan and smiling at her.

"Hey Ivy, hows it going?" Jordan asked, her smile fading a little from having to tear her face away from the beautiful glow of the moon. She looked at Ivy an giggiled.
"I just love the moon, and the stars. Dont you? Theres like a story behind each one, a life behind that story, and a moral behind that life. It's enchnating if you think about it." She said with a girlish tone. She then turned back to the night sky and sighed in contempt.

Ivy observed Jordan's face fall as she saw who was speaking to her.
'Oh', she thought. 'Oh, right'. It had certainly put a dampener on her mood. She would have to tread carefully, she guessed.
Ivy listened to what Jordan was saying about the night sky. She could see what she meant, although personally she wouldn't have said it aloud.
"Yeah, yeah, I can see what you mean actually." She paused for a minute before going on, changing the subject slightly, as she didn't want to reveal what she reminisced about the stars. "I love the night. It's dark, so it takes away the blinding light of the day. I can see stuff better then." Now that really must sound odd, she thought as an afterthought.

"Really? Me too. My mom called it a gift. Heh, but it always got me in trouble." jordan said with a smile. She sat down and looked at Ivy. She smiled as Jordan divided her hair into two pieces and braided each piece. Jordan liked braiding her hair, it soothed her.
"The night comforts me actually." She said, after a moment of silence. "It makes me feel at home." She smiled at her friend and nodded to herself.

Ivy watched absentmindedly as Jordan played with her hair. She smiled back at her friend, thinking her own thoughts and sitting in leisurely silence for a while.
"I mean sometimes the night can be bad, like hiding people who want to harm you. I always worry about that when I'm in my neighbourhood at home. But here, I don't worry about it. The dark is my friend here."
Thinking back over what she'd said, Ivy hoped that wasn't going to attract any awkward questions, because she didn't feel like answering them at the moment.

"I know what you mean. The dark can hold something dangerous, but as long as I have my wand, I'm fine. Wait no scratch that, I'm sitll panicking in my stylish yet affordable boots." Jordan answered with a laugh. She pulled out a box of choclates from her bag and handed it to Ivy, taking a caramel for herself.

Ivy smiled slightly bemusedly at Jordan. She didn't always understand everything Jordan said. But she cleared her face because she didn't want to look like a complete idiot, and took the box of chocolates Jordan offered her. Jordan always seemed to have a box of candies, chocolates or other treats. It was amazing. She must have a really sweet tooth, Ivy reflected, making a mental note of it. It would be useful when it came to buying presents for her. Ivy took a truffle and handed the box back to Jordan, saying, "Thanks."
"How's the schoolwork going?" Ivy asked. She always fell back on this question when in want of something to say. Thinking of her own homework, she grimaced. Things had been better.

"Haha, the schoolwork's fine. BUt the detentions stink. I have a weeks detention for throwing my things down in Snape's class. I believe you were there. Urgh, it's horrible! My detention started today." Jordan replied with a grimace. She took another chocolate and bit down into the candy. She always had candy with her. It helped her think. And she found, they were quite tasty.
"I'm not failing anything, but, I better watch out. My detentions will come up and haunt me." She said as an afterthought. Her mind was racing, but she realized Ivy wasnt at the speed she was, she could work on that. Ivy was a thoughtful thinker, JOrdan just said whatever came to her mind.
"What about you? How's your schoolwork?" She asked, erasing the thoughts in her mind so she could focus on one particular thought at a time.

Ivy listened as Jordan talked about her detention which Professor Snape had given her. She wouldn't like to be in detention. Not one bit. She wasn't someone who tended to be in trouble though. She'd grown up with her own principles for a while and they'd turned out to make her be well behaved. Sad, in a way.
Ivy had the question about schoolwork deflected back onto her. Maybe it hadn't been such a good idea to ask it. "Mmm..." she mumbled in reply, as she bit into her truffle. "Well, the classes and stuff are fine but I'm not exactly up to date on my homework." That was a source of worry actually, but she let it pass by. She wasn't sure what to say now, but she thought she'd ask about the Halloween ball, since she was only going if she was going to be able to hang out with Jordan.
"Any ideas about what you're going to the Halloween ball as?" she asked. "Only I wouldn't mind for some, since I haven't given it much thought cos I didn't think I was going."

Jordan smiled wickedly and took another choclate, this one had a cherry filling, ugh.
"Well, I'm going all dolled up, literally. I'm charming dolls to stick to me. Hmm, ideas.. Well you could go as a tornado you know, dress all in black and charm miniatures to stick to you and when people ask what you are, spin around and make a whirring sound." She replied with a laughing smile on her face. She was going to be that, if she hadnt found a date.

Ivy looked at Jordan slightly incredulously. She decided they just couldn't both be on the same wavelength.
"Sounds like a good idea, cept my idea of myself is hardly a tornado," she said, chuckling slightly. Her voice was amused, and although the words might sound annoyed, she wasn't at all.

Jordan smiled and thought back in her mind, what else was there in that book her mother had sent her?
"Oh yeah! Well, you could go as an omelet." JOrdan said lightly laughing. It was funny to think of Ivy as an Omelet.
"Or do you perfer something scarier? Or prettier?" She asked, trying to get an idea of what Ivy would like to go as.

Ivy wasn't sure if she'd misinterpreted what she'd just heard. "An omlette?" she repeated in astonishment. "Certainly novel! And if I have egg all over me, it won't matter what pranks are pulled in any case because I'll already be a bit messed up."
She paused for a second, looking at Jordan in bewildered astonishment. "I misheard that didn't I? I have absolutely no idea what you said." Ivy laughed. It wasn't particularly funny, just she'd had a vision of herself as an omlette and it had looked... weird? That didn't describe it.

((Heh, I cant spell )) "Yes, an omlett. You hear me correctly." Jordan said laughing. She looked at Ivy and tried to picture her covered in egg. Nope. No such luck. "True, if there wasa prank pulled then it wouldnt really matter. But, lets see what else there is....shall we?" She asked, her hyperness going away as the Moon faded behind a few clouds.

Ivy smiled at Jordan. "Yep... might be a better idea." She followed Jordan's gaze.
"I could go as the moon?" she suggested, not entirely sure about it. It sounded a bit idiotic. Did she have to dress up at all? she wondered, a sudden weariness coming over her and her brow furrowing.
She looked up at Jordan, not smiling as much now, just wondering what she would say about the moon idea. It didn't really matter anyway, since she didn't have a date.

Jordan smiled micheviously.
"Or..you could go as Selene, the Goddess of the Moon. I have everything you need. And you look about the same size as I do." Jordan said, her exciting voice coming back. She smiled at Ivy, wondering what she would think of her idea.
"We could do your hair, and put glittery things on you, and you can wear my great aunts pin. Its rather pretty, it has a crescent moon and a star on it. So whattya say?" She asked. Her voice still airy.

Ivy beamed at Jordan, the warm feeling inside her coming back.
"That sounds great!" she said. "You should go as the Sun, then we'd make a pair. That is, if you wanted to. Cos you said you were going as a... doll."
She crinkled her brow, looking at Jordan anxiously. She felt like a little girl again, arranging to dress up for the fancy dress party. Then she remembered how much her mum had done for the fancy dress party she was thinking of and her face fell again. She looked away from Jordan, forced the frown away from her face and looked back again.

Jordan watched as Ivy's face slipped into a frown. She raised an eyebrow and said,
"I would, if I hadnt a date. But I do, and our costumes kind of go together. And dont think of this as dressing up, its Halloween, the night to be something you arent. I guess that would make me shy and you outgoing right?" Jordan asked with slight laugh. Ivy was outgoing, when she was close to her friends. But around other people she was shy. Jordan wasnt like that. It was like shewas out going ALL the time. It annoyed her so much.

Ivy smiled in quiet consent to whatever Jordan had said, suddenly thoughtful. If Jordan had a date, wouldn't she be intruding going along? But she couldn't really back out now, not now they'd been talking about costume and stuff...
"Yeah, I guess," Ivy said, not looking up at Jordan. "I am quiet. It's not always a good thing, but sometimes it is."
