Fiona stood looking out her window in her uncle's manor. It was overcast outside though the temperature was still warm. Fiona gingerly felt her arm, she winced at the pain that shot through her left shoulder down her arm. It still hurt after the attacks. Madam Pomfrey had done what she could, but there was still some pain. Not even magic could heal everything. She sighed the pain was better than it had been. At one point in time it had hurt so bad that she couldn't move it, now she could at least raise her hand to her face.
Fiona turned from the window and stared at her uncle who was standing at her door. "They won't attack Hogsmeade, not right after Diagon Alley. They'd all have to be idiots. Besides wasn't it my grandpa that saved me in Diagon Alley? If worse comes to worse he'll save me again. After all, I'm the last O'Reilly. I'm going to go no matter what you say," Fiona said to her uncle. They had been arguing for the last half hour about her going to Hogsmeade. She needed some time away from her home and she planned on going no matter what.
'You can't even raise your wand arm,' Uncle Charlie persisted as he approached her arm. "I can too. It doesn't matter, I'm going. You're not my father you can't keep me here," Fiona said with defiance as she walked past him and down the stairs. She was heading straight for the fireplace. Her uncle knew that he had lost, 'Be back here in four hours!' he yelled down the stairs to her. "Whatever," Fiona said to herself as she threw Floo Powder into the fireplace and stepped inside.
A few seconds later Fiona stepped out in Hogsmeade. The place was more populated than normal due to the attacks. Most people were probably shopping for school supplies. Fiona turned a corner and headed for the Hogs Head, there probably wouldn't be as many people in there as there were in The Three Broomsticks. Fiona stopped to peer into Zonko's window before she reached the Hogs Head. She'd need to stop by there, there seemed to be new stock. She continued and as she rounded the corner her face fell upon an ugly site. "Filthy little mudblood!" Fiona said angrily as she looked Elle up and down. She had just turned the corner and came face to face with the innocent girl, but it didn't matter their history was too thick to let any comment slide. Fiona winced as she clutched her wand in her left hand. The pain shooting through her shoulder was incredible, maybe it was because she was so angry at seeing Elwin.

Elle woke up with a start. Looking at her clock in the hotel at Hogsmeade, she noticed the time. It was already ten! Elle never slept that late! Oh well, she thought, I'll still have time to at least do my school shopping.
Getting up and out of bed, she stretched, and yawned. Then she got ready--her normal morning routine consisting of showering, brushing her teeth, doing her makeup and hair, and changing into fresh clothes. She had put her wavy hair, not longer just auburn due to her strawberry-blonde highlights, in a partial ponytail, loose bangs framing her face. Once she had donned her pink, cowl neck tank top with uneven edges, and her light wash denim flare jeans, she slipped on her flipflops, and went out of her room, locking it of course.
Elle rode the elevator down to the lobby, and gave the bellboy a nod, before walking out the door. Looking around, she saw that Hogsmeade was unusually full. Well that's because Diagon Alley's been attacked, she thought, and thank god mum and dad don't know about it, or they'd make me go home instead of spending my summer in Hogsmeade by myself.
She was having a relatively nice, peaceful day. First stop, she thought, Gladrags Wizard Wear for my robes. It was a little past Zonko's Joke Shop, on the right. Turning the corner, she turned face to face with Fiona. Elle sighed. She had hoped she wouldn't see that disgusting arrogant b**** today.
"For your information Fiona," Elle replied curtly, "I took a shower just 20 minutes ago, and am not in the least bit dirty. As I've said before, you cannot help your blood ancestry, and good-hearted people would not judge others by such an uncontrollable matter. Oh yes, and mudblood is a very derogatory term, you shouldn't use it."
Seeing that Fiona had pulled out her wand, she gripped her's as well, "You know very well that you are underage. If you were to cast magic, the Ministry would track you down. Good day to you."
Elle walked past Fiona, but watched her out of the corner of her eye.

Fiona's fury flared as Elle walked past her. The girl had no respect for her superiors. "You know, being chicken isn't the greatest traits in a witch, but of course you are a mudblood," Fiona drawled as she watched the girl walk away. Fiona might not be able to use magic, but she could still give a good fight. "Of course, with parents like yours it's hard for you to have a backbone. I'm sure they're not much better anyways," Fiona said loudly. People were beginning to stare, but Fiona could care less. This girl needed to be taught a lesson about who was better. She obviously didn't realize that people like Fiona would never befriend people who weren't even good enough to wipe the ground she walked on.
Fiona stood watching Elwin. She was interested in seeing her reaction. Would the girl get angry or would she pretend like she didn't hear Fiona. Fiona's smile was daring as she watched her. "Cat got your tongue?" Fiona asked with amusement at the lack of speech Elwin seemed to have.

OOC: Sorry I took so long. Been practicing my violin and fixing up Elle's little website.
IC: Elle laughed to herself. She was rather amused that Fiona got so angry so soon. Today she was particularly perky, and wasn't about to let Fiona make her moody.
"You know," she said, "anger management IS one of the greatest traits of being a good witch, which you seem to lack. I can find some very famous psychologists to deal with you you know."
Elle prentended to continue walking, but then flipped around, "But with Death Eater parents like yours, I'm not surprised, seeing that even you were attacked at Diagon Alley, and a lowly mudblood like me wasn't. So I guess that just sinks you even lower. Gasp!"
She continued along the dirt road to Gladrag's, not paying the slightest mind to Fiona. Elle was going to see if she followed her or not. Either way, she thought, I win. She's either too scared, or she's a stalker. And if she decides to hurt me with her wand, then I guess the Ministry will have to deal with her.

Fiona hated the girl. The one who continued to reference muggle things, that Fiona didn't know. The one who had just said something about her parents. The girl obviously didn't read the Daily Prophet, but then why would a mudblood. She obviously didn't know that Fiona's parents were dead. The bitter rage that burned in Fiona flared at her comment and she had to restrain herself from hexing the girl. There was no need to use magic on her. Besides the girl was weak enough as it was, she obviously wouldn't be able to handle Fiona's magic.
Fiona watched the girl go. She was not a dog. She would not follow after those lesser than her. Fiona wished she could just let the girl have it, but there was nothing she could do. Maybe, when they were back in school in a few weeks she'd be able to give the girl a good hex. Fiona didn't care if she ended up in detention. The girl would have to be dealt with and Fiona smiled to herself. She knew what had to be done. She'd make sure Elwin got her comeuppance. Fiona stashed her wand back in her pocket. "So long, Elwin! You may have won the battle, but you'll never win the war!" Fiona called after the girl. She admitted defeat this round, but the girl had yet to see her get angry. Fiona would get her back, if it was the last thing she did. Turning on her heels Fiona continued to the Hogs Head where the company was more to her liking. She sat down at a table as the thoughts of her plan ran through her head.

OOC: She just turned away, she's not about to follow you. Haha but she will bump into you at Hogs Head you mark my words...let's fast forward an hour...
IC: Elle smiled, walking back the way the came from. Her school shopping had gone quite well, which was evident in the many bags she now held in her hands. One contained her Ravenclaw school robes, as well as a single dress robe in the case of a social event like a ball. The next contained a new cauldron--her old wasn't strong enough to stay intact when the stronger acids were boiled in it, which she would be dealing more with now that she was a third year. Elle's final bag contained all of the books she would be needing for the school year. She had decided to go cheap and buy her books secondhand, but she had checked each one extensively before buying it to make sure none of them had any sort of spills, or puke on the pages. She had also made sure none of them smelled funny, and that they were at least fairly new.
An hour ago, Elle had been able to walk the entire way to Gladrag's without a stop, but now, the sun was higher in the sky, and she had more, heavier things to carry and just herself and her purse. She paused to take a breather, and decided to stop by Hog's Head, the nearest pub, to get a quick drink. She hadn't known that Fiona was in there as well...
Entering through the door, she walked up to the bartender and ordered an iced butterbeer. Then, she chose a table and sat down, placing all her bags on the table instead of the floor, due to the fact that the floor was quite dirty.
Taking in her surroundings had always been a habit of Elle's, and she wouldn't stop now. She looked around, taking in everything, until her eyes glanced a certain Fiona O'Reilly. She frowned.

Fiona pulled out her book that she had been reading for several weeks. Advanced Potions was its title and it had been very interesting so far. She couldn't wait to try some of these potions. She had been sitting drinking Butterbeer for the past hour. She didn't want to go home, but yet, she didn't feel like being outside either. She knew that mudblood's had a tendency to stay away from the Hogs Head and that fact comforted her as she continued to read.
Before long the door to the Hogs Head opened and Fiona looked up. It was Elle Elwin, again. The girl just didn't learn did she, but Fiona wasn't about to start a fight again. The girl was due for her payback when school started. Fiona smiled at the plan she had concocted in the first few minutes of her enjoyment of Hogs Head. The girl didn't seem to see Fiona and she waited until the girl was sitting in a booth. A thought crossed Fiona's mind and she smiled. She was willing to make amends with Elle if she was willing to do the same.
"Elwin come take a seat, bring your luggage," Fiona said rather nicely. She didn't want the girl to think she was up to something, when she really only wanted to be nice. "You know, Elwin. You're right. I have no right to call you a mudblood. You are just as capable of doing magic as I am. In fact, you may even be better than me, though I don't slight my ability at all. What do you say we put this feud behind us and become friends. I have to admit that I am thoroughly interested in muggle technology," Fiona said as she placed her chin on her right hand. She looked at the girl to see if she would accept her apology and perhaps join her for a drink.

Elle was very wary of Fiona, especially when she mentioned apologizing and becoming friends. Frowning, she thought, it isn't that easy, especially not after two year. She must be up to something. Nevertheless, Elle didn't want to make a bad impression if Fiona really was trying to be friendly. Even so, she was rather skeptical that Fiona was really just apologizing. Innocence just didn't seem to fit Fiona O'Reilly.
Elle stood up and remembered something. Why hadn't she thought of this before? Gah I'm so stupid, she thought, remembering the house elf her parents had let her hire for her benefit.
"Twinkle!" she said, and, with a pop, her house elf appeared, bowing low, "Take these to the house please."
After handing Twinkle a knut, he disappeared. Elle knew it wasn't customary to pay a house elf, but she couldn't help being nice. After she only had her purse and her drink, she moved to Fiona's table.
"Sorry about that we just recently got the elf. I forgot momentarily that we even had one. We mostly use our two maids."
Sitting down, Elle put one hand on her straw, and one hand in her pocket, fingering her wand. Then, she spoke.
"Um...sure," she said to the suggestion, still very wary of Fiona, "So um, what types of muggle technology are you interested in?"
Elle took a sip of her butterbeer, other hand still in her pocket, holding her wand.

Fiona smirked at the girl. She was obviously afraid that Fiona was going to hex her or something. She seemed to be leery of everything Fiona was saying. 'I guess she doesn't believe that I want to be her friend,' Fiona thought to herself. She smiled warmly at Elle. "You really don't believe that I have good intentions, do you? You don't believe that I'm trying to make peace?" Fiona asked her. "I know things didn't start out well between us, but can't an old Slyth change their mind. I've had a long time to sit here and think about it. I really do want to put the past behind us. We should become friends," Fiona said as she held out her right hand to shake. She wasn't sure if Elle would take it, but she was hoping. After all, friends shouldn't be afraid of one another.
Fiona smiled at Elle. "I like all kinds of muggle technology. For instance, how do they make clocks? I've always wondered that. I was looking at Big Ben not too long back and I just couldn't figure out how they had constructed it. I'm also interested in those things called compooters. Is that how you say them? I can never be sure. Oh, and tellophanes, that's the right word, right? Oh, I don't really know anything about them. I just have seen them on the streets. They have cords that come out of this box and into this crescent shaped plastic thing. What do they do?" Fiona asked with excitement. She really had no idea how a clock worked, or what a computer and telephone were. She wasn't even sure how to say them, which was obvious by her pronunciation. She took a sip of her Butterbeer as she waited for Elle to explain these items to her.

Elle blinked at Fiona. She didn't answer any of her questions, because she knew the answer was that she didn't think Fiona was being too truthful. Either way though, she decided to put to use some of her acting skills. Smiling warmly back, she shook Fiona's hand.
"Sure," was all Elle said.
When Fiona began to talk about muggle technology, she nearly snorted in half of her butterbeer, listening to her go on about "compooters" and "tellophanes." Wizarding folk really didn't have any idea about muggle things did they? She began to cough very loudly to mask the laughter.
"Sorry, choked on butterbeer," she said, eyes watering, which was half-true, considering she had choked on it after laughing.
"Well," she said, "Different clocks are made differently, but basically they use springs, and it makes the second, minute, and hour hands tick at different rates to tell tell. As far as computers go, those are quite a bit more complicated. But if you turn it on, you can type what you want to say and go on the internet and talk to other people. Phones, are actually great fun. You can hook it up and call whoever you wish."
Elle pulled out her cell phone, "This is a cell phone, and it doesn't even need cords or anything. It works just like a normal phone, except you can carry it everywhere and call whoever."

Fiona looked at Elle with skepticism as Elle supposedly choked on her Butterbeer. "I realize I probably sound stupid. I just don't know anything about the muggle world. It's why I asked you about it. I figured you could tell me without laughing at me. However, my ignorance could be a bit funny," Fiona said as she took a drink of her Butterbeer. She knew she had probably mispronounced some things, but it wasn't like she'd have have any of it. She sat her bottle back on the table as Elle started talking about the different technologies the muggles had.
'Phones and computers,' Fiona thought to herself as she got the correct pronunciations. She knew Elle had to be enjoying her stupidity, but Fiona knew that the girl still didn't trust her. She had good reason not to, but Fiona hoped that the girl would trust her someday. After all, she was trying her hardest to be nice. She did want to become friends with the girl. After all, Fiona thought the girl had spunk and that put her way up in Fiona's book. "Cell phones. So how does it work? You just call people? Like do you call out their name and it works and they can hear you? What's with the numbers?" Fiona asked. She knew the questions were probably ridiculous, but she didn't really care anymore. All she wanted was an explanation. She looked up at Elle to see her reaction to the questions Fiona had asked.

"Sorry," Elle said, thinking, wow, attitude makeover. I wonder what makes her want to consort with a 'mudblood'.
Taking her hand out of her wand pocket, she starting running it through her hair, grimacing at the horrible explanation she had given. It never really occured to her that some people weren't born with telephones and computers and clocks in their house. She always took it for granted that everyone knew. She began talking again.
"No, i'm sorry," she said, "That explanation was horrible. Okay here's how it works. Everyone with a telephone also has a telephone number. To reach them, you press the numbers in order. For instance, my home phone number is 267-3109, so I would push the buttons with the right numbers on it.
"You see?" she said, punching in the numbers, "Then, you press talk. Well, that's usually just with cell phones. If you're using a regular phone, it will automatically send. After that, you will hear a dial tone for a while, until they answer. When they answer the phone, you will be able to talk to them."
"Of course," she frowned, "sometimes they're not there, and in that case, an automated message will come up, like, 'Hey this is Elle. I'm not here right now, so leave a message after the beep and I'll get back to you soon', and then you wait for the tone, and leave a message. Then, when they get back, they can check their messages, and if you're recorded properly, then they'll know that you left them a message, and they can call you back. I hope that explains everything."
Elle knew that she had yet to explain the games, and AIM, and internet and things that costed extra that could come with the phone, but she didn't think that this was the appropriate time to explain it.

Fiona listened to Elle with diligence. However, if though she was concentrating she just couldn't understand the workings of a telephone. "So, there are telephones and telephone numbers. You press the numbers that go with the telephone numbers on the telephone. Then the phone sends...what does it send? Can it send packages and stuff like that? Kind of like the Floo Network?" Fiona asked, she thought she had finally understood.
"So this dial tone, what's that? Is it like music or something? And when they answer I can talk to them, but not before because they won't hear? But what about seeing them? I mean I can't possibly believe I have the right person if I can't see them. What if the person I'm not looking for answers the phone? What do I do then...hang up and try again? And automatic messages...those come up if no one answers," Fiona shook her head. There was way too much information to process. She looked at Elle with weariness. "Forget that I asked," Fiona said with sincerity as her look of confusion increased. She would just have to face the fact that she'd never understand muggle technology.
Fiona took a drink of her Butterbeer. It felt cool against her throat and that helped her relax her overworked mind. She didn't really care about finding out how a telephone thing worked anyways. It was just a bit of conversation that she could have with Elle. The girl seemed to be realizing that Fiona didn't want to fight anymore. Besides Fiona's list of friends was growing short. She figured that most people were staying away from her since she had been the daughter of a prominent Death Eater. She admired her dad for doing what he had done, but she wished he was still with her. She sighed as she looked back at Elle. The girl seemed to be rather chipper and that made Fiona a little happier. "How did your shopping go?" Fiona asked after a bit of awkward silence. She wanted to make conversation, but couldn't really think of anything interesting other than the shopping Fiona knew Elle had done.

Post by xtina on Aug 13, 2005 15:37:43 GMT
"Well," Elle said, "The phone doesn't really send anything, just let's the other side know that someone wants to talk. And the dial tone isn't really anything special, it's just a little noise that repeats until they answer. Yes, you can't talk to them until they answer, before that, they won't hear a word. If they aren't there, you can ask for that specific person because sometimes a family member picks up the phone, and then if it's really the wrong number, like if you called a different phone, then you just hang up and try again. It's okay, ask what you want."
During the silence, she drank a little of her butterbeer through the straw.
When Fiona asked about her shopping, she answered, "The shopping went pretty good, I got all the school supplies and things that I needed. You know, robes, dress robes, just in case there's a social event, books, new cauldron, stuff like that. How's the book you're reading? I never liked potions, but then again, that's just me. I usually don't go through my books during the summer. I'll flip through them during free time and stuff, but I never really like reading them more than necessary."
Elle flipped back her hair, which had gotten in her face. Then she sipped a bit of butterbeer, waiting for Fiona's reply. What's making her act all nice? she thought to herself.

Fiona nodded alone with what Elle said about telephones. She didn't understand any of it and didn't really care about it anymore. "Thanks, but it's over my head. I think I'll just stick with Floo Powder when I want to talk with someone," Fiona said with a smile as she picked up her bottle of Butterbeer and drank some. She really had no clue what to make of telephones. They sounded complicated and Fiona wondered how Elle had ever understood them, of course she was muggleborn and that made her understand the technologies the muggles had invented to keep in touch with one another. She sat her bottle back on the table as Elle began to talk about her shopping.
"Ah, I love reading. The Sorting Hat said it was a good quality for Ravenclaw, but the thirst to prove myself was more than they could handle. So I was placed in Slytherin. I didn't mind of course. The whole lot of my family has been in Slytherin, except the few that we don't associate with," Fiona said as she thought of her mothers uncle and his children. She didn't even know about them. She had no idea if they had kids and if they did were they wizards or witches are not. She shrugged at the thought. She didn't care about them at all. If they weren't such a family disgrace maybe she would think about associating with them. Her attention fell back on Elle.
"Potions is my best subject. I don't really even have to think about it when I'm concocting a potion, it just turns out the way I want it to. It's really quite interesting. I was always one for mixing things, though I am quite talented with Charms and Transfiguration as well. But not nearly as good in them as Potions. What about you, what's your best subject?" Fiona asked as she looked at Elle with curiosity. She was surprised to see that the girl was still sitting at the table, after all, they had only gotten in a huge fight little over an hour ago. She thought that maybe the girl was beginning to trust her and she had every right to. Fiona smiled as she waited for the girl's response.

Elle laughed, "Haha okay. I guess the wizarding world just doesn't mingle with muggles. You know, I kinda like being muggleborn. It's like getting the best of both worlds."
Fiona isn't really that bad, Elle thought, drinking through her straw again. But the butterbeer was almost empty, and the straw couldn't get the last drops. She took it out and picked up the cup, getting the last of her butterbeer. Waving over a waiter, she ordered another one, checking the time on her cell phone after pulling it out of her purse. She noticed how much time she had spent, frowning slightly. Elle figured her parents wouldn't mind, since they were never really strict about being home on time and such, just as long as she got home before dark, and preferrably before dinner.
"Ah, well, you see," Elle said, "the sorting hat was debating on slytherin for me too, because you know, I am slightly arrogant. I guess it's through being part of the popular crowd back in the muggle world. But then it figured that I was muggleborn and wouldn't really fit in slytherin, so I got put in ravenclaw."
Just then, her new butterbeer arrived. Thanking the waitress, Elle sipped at it thoughtfully, while Fiona talked about potions.
"My best subject is most charms," she said, when Fiona asked her, "and transfiguration comes next. I'm also rather good at dueling, so I guess defense against the dark arts comes into play there. I don't really like herbology, I'm kinda squeamish about dirt and you know, the little things in nature, but I still do pull in top grades. I'm not so good with potions. You see, I can still do them, and I'm guessing I would get Exceeds Expectations come time for my O.W.L.'s, but I just really have to try hard and concentrate to get it to work. I remember passing out during class one day because my potion was producing rather putrid fumes, which were dangerous to inhale. Professor Snape was rather displeased."
She fingered her hoop earrings, added on by three other studs in her other piercings, and a small ring on her cartiledge piercing. Elle was proud of all her ear piercings. Four in each ear, plus a cartiledge, was quite a bit of pain to handle. She smiled, two dimples showing in each side of her cheeks, while she waited for Fiona's reaction.

Fiona smiled as Elle said the muggle world and wizarding world didn't mingle together for a reason. Fiona had always known that. It was partly her reason for distancing herself from everything muggle like. That and a few other reasons were to blame. Of course, she was a pureblood and therefore never grew up in such an environment and as such learned to hate it more than treasure it like Elle seemed to. Fiona could care less how a computer worked or how the muggles used electricity. Fiona was much happier living by candle light and magic rather than electricity.
"The sorting hat actually considered you for Slytherin?" Fiona asked with skepticism. The hat knew better than to try to place a mudblood in Slytherin. Things would get way out of hand. It would probably be the first case in which it was wrong. On the other hand, Fiona could see Elle making quite a name for herself; as the only mudblood ever to step inside the Slytherin common room. Fiona raised an eye brown at Elle as she continued on about why she was chosen for Ravenclaw instead of Slytherin. The girl obviously thought she was rather different for being one of the only mudbloods considered for Slytherin. Fiona shook off the thought as Elle began to talk about her favorite subjects.
"I have a natural talent for Potions. I guess my grandfather was really good at them as well. My da used to tell me I took after him a lot, but those days are gone. I get good marks in all my subjects. Mostly because I like to read. It just seems to help when you're taking an exam. A woman in America once told me that I have a photographic memory. I can just remember everything I see. Even if I only read it once or see it once I can still remember most of it's aspects. So I can do well as long as I've seen it. It helps a lot when it comes to getting good marks," Fiona said as she drained the last of her Butterbeer. She snapped her fingers and within seconds the bartender replaced her drink with a fresh one. She smiled at the man as he bowed. "He was indebted to my father, after his passing he became indebted to me. It's nice to know I have some place to go where I can get the respect I deserve," Fiona said as she turned her attention back to Elle. She wasn't sure if the girl was even wondering why the guy had done that, but she at least had the explanation now. Fiona smiled at the girl as she waited for her reply.

"Yeah," Elle said, "it did consider me, but that was before it noticed I was muggleborn. Thank god that I didn't actually get in Slytherin."
She clasped a hand over her mouth, temporarily forgetting that she had been talking to a Slytherin. Her cheeks turned slightly pink, and she looked down, sipping at her butterbeer.
"I didn't say that," she said, still looking down and drinking her butterbeer.
Elle had downed about half of her bottle before she continued to talk, fingering her left hoop earring while she did so.
"Well my case is," she said, "That I had a perfect long-term memory. So if I manage to keep something in my short term, then it'll stay there forever. But that's just the problem, you see. My short-term memory is horrific. Seeing that I'm a ravenclaw though, I do tend to get good grades in all my subjects. The thing is, it varies how hard I have to work for that grade."
Inwardly, she thought, no wonder Fiona is talking to me, her precious muggleborn hating daddy is dead. Then, her thoughts drifted to Snape. Gah I hate him! Elle thought. How can Fiona even LIKE potions, especially when HE teaches them? Elle raised an eyebrow as the bartender bowed to Fiona, and as she talked about the 'respect that she deserved', Elle suddenly started to dislike her again, but decided to keep all of this inside of her, seeing what Fiona would say next.
