"Alright. Mack. I don't understand what's so bad about your last name though." Padme ate some more ice-cream and listened to Mack state her question. She raised her eyebrows but decided to tell some of it, not all of it.
"I-er- had lots of ways of finding this out. No, mum didn't tell me all of it. Just some of it. I found a photo album in the trash that held pictures of him," Padme stuck her thumb at Jack, "and Roger Rendel. They had dates on the back, and I noticed the last picture was in March, six months before my birth-date. Tessa told me that Roger had kicked her out of his manor, leaving Jack behind with him. I also went in the attic and found a form that said something about who owned Jack. It appeared that Roger had won in court. That's why she couldn't have Jack. Roger wanted him. Tessa told me that she missed you, but it was impossible for you to be with her. So, yes, my mother was smart and brought it to court, but, like I said, Roger gained custody of him. I also found this letter that was from the hospital I was born at to Roger Rendel; I guess they were going to tell him about me. At first, I didn't understand; why would Tessa have it if it was for Roger? I came up with the conclusion that Tessa must have intercepted the message so Roger wouldn't know about me." She paused and took a bite of sundae. "She is thinking about trying out for another trial, but I'm not sure if she will...." Padme sighed for effect and leaned back in her chair, which screeched in protest.
"Happy now, Mack? I had to discover my own record by myself, since Tessa wasn't keen on telling me." She smiled triumphantly while taking another bite. "So, you're Mackenzie Holden, eh? I think I've heard of you before..from Cameron....Hang on, I'm trying to think of it." A minute passed and Padme gave up. "Ah, never mind. Jack, tell me what you know about this then? Any clues that you found that hinted I was out there? Roger tell you anything that seemed weird? Tell me about him? What's he like?" Padme paused to take a breath and decided that was enough questions for Jack to handle.

After Mack listened to Padme she was about to say something about Roger being abusive and that they should reopen the case, but she wasn't sure if Jack wanted Padme to know that. So she kept her trap shut. If Jack wanted his little sister to know, he would tell her. It wasn't Mack's place. So she silently ate her ice-cream. That is until Padme said something about a guy named Cameron talking about her. Mack looked up, her eyebrow raised and a smug grin on her face, "Wow. No one likes me, eh? Your dad doesn't like me, my dad doesn't like me, and if this Cameron guy is talking about me it's definitely not about anything good- ergo he doesn't like me. Damn, I'm just an unlikable person." She muttered with a smirk before she continued to eat her ice-cream in peace; letting Jack ask the questions.

Jack listened to Padme's story in awe, unable to fit everything in his mind. So, this all happened and...I never knew.....Roger doesn't know.....Tessa's still alive and healthy.... Why? He tried to make these thoughts vanish from his mind, but they stayed there as if planted inside his brain. He licked his ice-cream and felt as if his world had been put in slow motion. He couldn't think straight, Mack seemed to be talking about something....Jack wasn't sure what...but when Padme spoke it was like a speaker had been placed inside his ears; he could hear everything perfectly. About who she had to sneak around and find out for herself what had happened, just like Mack. Why didn't I see if there was something happening? Oh, yeah. Roger didn't know. He took another lick before looking at Padme. She had asked about the father she never knew; what he was like. Jack eyes widened slightly; what am I going to tell her?
"Erm....well, Roger's...he...er....abuses me. For real, he does. He's a monster and a Death Eater, of course. He has no emotions and I'm sure if he knew about you he would do a court trial again so he could gain custody of you." He gave her a look that meant he didn't want to talk about it anymore, and began licking his chocolate ice-cream. He didn't want to talk about this anymore, no he wouldn't, he couldn't. His thoughts were all jumbled inside his very confused mind. He remained silent; he would ask questions later when he had sorted out what he just learned.

Mack looked down, her appetite suddenly vanished. She looked up as Jack finished talking and she saw he didn't want to talk about it anymore. She threw the ice-cream away in the nearest bin, and pulled her shoulderbag onto her lap. She took out her sketchpad and a lead pencil. Not many pencils were made with lead anymore, but that was because of the poisoning. Mack didn't bother with that though- she could use a graphite pencil, but she hated how those looked on the paper. Then there was always the option of using a magical pencil- but she hated those too, because anyone can cast a spell on a pencil and have it draw. If she did it- it wouldn't be her art. She pulled out an eraser and smiled as she flipped open the cover to the nearest clean page. Mack had been drawing for about a year- and she was best with portraits. Landscapes were strictly water color for Mack though.
"So- you know what I find interesting?" Mack asked, looking up from her page and starting with a circular head, started to draw Jack. Her pencil moved magically, not literally, over the page- perfect even strokes and wonderful shades and tints. She even smudged some areas to make the parts of his face where he looked rough- to look as close to reality as possible, "I find that there are things you can go through life not knowing. Not just family things either, things like the secret to life. Okay, given- no one knows the secret to a great life- but you still go on living it don't you? Life is one big mystery, and yet we still go on living. I can't stand mysteries. I have to know everything! Yet- this doesn't bother me. That's what I find interesting." Mack finished, as she clicked her tongue at the mistake in the drawing she made. She erased it and started on the eye again, making it the correct shade. She would go through and add little spots of color later.

Padme raised her eyebrows at Mack. "That was a great idea. Good way to wast you money." Padme told her with a smirk. She looked at Jack and smiled at him. "I should have known. Being mean seems to run in the family. Even Tessa can be horrible sometimes. Of course, I'm the angel of the family, can't you tell?" Padme asked sweetly as she noticed Mack drawing. "What are you drawing?" Padme demanded as soon as she saw it. She then forgot about the sketch book as soon as Mack began talking about mysteries. Padme listened intently as Mack said what she thought was interesting. Padme raised her eyebrows.
"The one thing about life is there is always surprises. Most of them are confusing. People have no idea how to have immortality, for instance, but then You-Know-Who comes along and he hasn't died, has he? He's still alive. That surprised some people. Others knew it was coming. I don't like mysteries. I don't like surprises either. I want to be prepared for everything. The one thing I know about life is that you never can always get what you want. That's what I know." She ate the rest of her ice-cream and then looked at the two of them.
"I'm ready to go shopping, are you?" Without waiting for an answer, Padme stood up and glared at the two. She then walked off to the store that held potion supplies without looking back. She knew the two would follow her...soon.

Jack listened about what Mack found interesting with surprise. He didn't know why he was surprised; he just was. Mack always seemed older than she really was. Jack looked down at what Mack was holding and saw a sketch - book. He gave her a questioning look, but turned to face Padme when she started babbling about surprises and mysteries. Jack rolled his eyes and grinned at Mack. Padme didn't know much, really. Then, Padme decided she would just get up and walk away to go shopping. Jack shook his head at her retreating back.
"Can't get that one to stay still, can we?" Jack asked with some amusement. "What are you doing, by the way? Drawing....me?" he raised an eye-brow but said nothing more. He tried to sit up straighter to catch a glimpse of what Mack had done so far of him. "It looks really good. I never knew you drew, Mack." Jack said as he sat back down in his chair, licking what he had left of his ice-cream.
"Padme took the thing about Roger quite well, don't you think? It kind of surprises me; but it seems like nothing can scare that girl." He felt a small amount of pride that his sister was so strong, but the pride didn't show in his voice. He looked around at Mack while throwing his ice-cream away. "Should we follow her or do you want to keep on drawing?"

Mack had zoned out, it wasn't until Padme got up that she looked up and noticed Jack was talking to her. She smiled and shook her head calmly, "She's young. She has too much energy for her own good." Her pencil continued to glide over the page as she finished the drawing. Her hand then moved to the right hand corner- signing her name with the date. She turned it to face Jack and smiled.
"I'm very talented. Lots of free time on my hands. Maybe I should just make a list of what I do and give it to you, that way you know all my hidden talents." Mack told him with a raise of her eyebrow, she closed the sketch-pad and put it in her bag. When Jack said Padme took the thing about Roger quite well, Mack shrugged- wanting to say something, but biting her tongue. She stood and pulled the strap on over her head before looking at Jack- "Let's go serve her royal highness."

Jack smiled at Mack. "Yeah, sure. Maybe it would be better if I knew all your hidden talents because then I wouldn't be surprised, now would I?" He stood up and glanced at Mack. "I guess we should go serve her." he said dully. He walked as slowly as possible toward the figure in the distance that was Padme. He felt like his doom was getting nearer and nearer with every step he took toward his sister. Why did he have to have a sister that was...evil? He frowned and continued on, Padme drawing ever closer.

“Oh, but knowing all my hidden talents would be horrid. That’s over 200. As I said before, I am a very talented girl. Some day, I shall sit you down, and tell you what they are and how I acquired said talents. Doesn’t that sound like such a great thing to do?” She asked with a raise of her eyebrows. Mack smiled, un-wrapped a piece of gum, and put it in her mouth- starting to chew slowly. She pulled a pair of sunglasses on over her eyes and followed Padme, but not before walking backwards and saying to Jack; “You don’t think much of her do you, ole buddy ole pal?” She raised an eyebrow and blew a bubble.
