Maryn jumped out of bed that morning. She was so excited that she was going riding. Maryn hadn't gone for so long and she really missed it. The whole summer had been crazy for her. She had barely left the house and was pretty pale. But, all of that was in the past. Today, she was going riding and that was all that she cared about.Maryn quickly slipped into her jeans, favorite red tank top, boots, and her baseball cap. She didn't want to get her hair dirty. After that, she grabbed her water bottle and started walking. The riding area wasn't to far from her house. Maryn suddenly looked at her watch. "Oh geez." She thought. Of course she was late. Maryn was supposed to meet Emma there at two. Maryn walked a little faster trying not to be late. She was always late for everything.
Maryn turned into the stable as she arrived. A huge smile was seen on her face as she passed all the horses. She loved horses and when Maryn rode them she felt free. Free from it all. It was a feeling she wanted to keep forever. Maryn turned into a familiar stall. "Hey, Casey!" She to the big brown horse. "Miss me boy?" She asked walking up towards him. He gave a little neigh. "I missed you to buddy. More than you know." Maryn said as she fed him a carrot she found in the feed box. "More than you know." She repeated softly watching him. Maryn had missed her old friend and he would never understand how much. Maryn then peeped her head out of the stall to look for Emma. She didn't see her, but she heard someone walking into the stables.

Emma walked with a slight spring into the stables, grin set widely. She was about to go riding with her friend, Maryn. She knew Maryn hadn't ridden in a while, and it made her feel happy to know that she had chosen Emma to ride with on her first hack back. Walking proudly up to Casey's, Maryn's horse's, stable, she noticed herself in the nearby window. Emma hadn't fussed too much that morning with looks, though she still looked pretty and fresh from the shower. Her cream jodphurs were new, her black hard hat covered in a clean over throw, and her brown shirt finishing the look nicely. Her hair had been rushed into a quick plait, with a few hasty slides stuck here and there. She had a small bag in one hand full of carrots and Mindy's Marvellous Mints, which Spice her horse adored. Smiling at her reflection, Emma walked into Casey's stable. "Hey Maryn! All set for the ride? I just need to tack up Spice before we go-sorry i'm late too, Dad needed some help with Rogir fro- doesn't matter. How's Casey doing? You happy to be out?" Emma stroked Casey's delicate nose with another smile.

Maryn then saw Emma walk into the stables. Emma was younger than Maryn, but she didn't care. Emma was just as much fun to be around as Maryn. Maryn smiled as her friend entered. She was happy to be back at the stables. "Hey, girl." Maryn called playfully. "Yea, I'm all tacked up." She said as she finished the process. "Casey's fine." Maryn said as she patted the horse on his side. "Yea, I'm so glad to be back here. It's such a good break from the ruff summer I've had. I missed it out here." Maryn smiled as she looked around. The public stable used to be her home basically until she got grounded twice, had to stay inside with worried parents, and relived an old memory.
Maryn looked at Emma for a second. She looked nice for just going trail riding. Maryn had rode with Emma before, but it had been so long. "Hey, you ride English, right? I can't remember. Oh and how is Spice?" She asked referring to the two riding stiles. English was more proper riding and Western was less strict. Maryn preferred Western herself. "Yea, tack up I'll wait." She called as she gather the necessary items for the ride.

Emma smiled at her friend, and gave Casey a carrot from her bag. Maryn wouldn't mind. "Well, both really- i prefer English. And Spice is great- i just bought her a new saddle, it's gorgeous! Ok, i'll just tack up then. I'll be back in five." Smiling again, Emma seized Spice's new saddle, marvelling at it. Slinging the shiny black bridle over her shoulder, she walked out of the stable.

Emma went to tack up so Maryn stood in Casey's stall. She was still preparing for the ride. Maryn picked up her biker helmet and made Casey was in good condition. Since she was a Western Rider, what she wore didn't matter to her. Maryn put on some bug spray and put a few carrots in her pocket just in case. She then looked around the stall satisfied and started to get on the big horse. She struggled for a second since she had neglected the art of mounting for months. "Sorry, boy." She whispered. Maryn knew if she was having difficulty so was he. Casey and Maryn were connected in a way. He knew what she was feeling and she loved him for it.
Maryn then rode Casey out of the stall towards Emma. Maryn knew that it wasn't allowed to mount in the stall, but she didn't care. The stable was huge and she did it with ease. Besides, Maryn knew the owners of the place since it was where she boarded her old pony, Kristi. Maryn rode Casey up to Emma since she had been gone more than five minutes. "Ready?" She asked with an excited grin on her face.

Emma was just getting Spice to take the bit, which was always hard with the tall horse. Finally doing it and slinging the straps over her ears, Emma checked Spice's girth and saddle, then brought her outside, where she met Maryn. Smiling widely, Emma set one foot in the closeest sirrup, slung her other leg over, and settled her body in the comfy saddle. "Like it then?" Emma gestured to the new saddle. It was pink, luminous pink. Bright lime green spots were dotted all over, and the blanket underneath was black and silky. All in all, the saddle was perfect for Emma! Also, being so gorgeously comfy, Emma could gallop endless fields without feeling the slightest bump in her 'derrier'.

"Wow, I've never seen a pink saddle!" Maryn said admiring it. "It's cute. And I thought i was the only Hogwarts girl that liked unique things." Maryn laughed as she said the words. She hated anything normal. Maryn liked to dress funky and unique because she wasn't a fit in kind of girl. Maryn just wanted to stand out. She then looked back at her brown saddle. It wasn't too old, but it had already been well used. "Well, since we're ready do you want to go on the cross country trail or the regular one?" She asked. The cross country trail had many jumps along the way and the regular one was just a trail. Maryn preferred the cross country one, but she didn't care which one Emma picked.
Maryn waited for Emma's response and then had a thought. "Oh, and do you want to lead or should I?" Maryn asked. Maryn wanted Emma to choose because she didn't care. Today Maryn would do whatever Emma wanted because she was glad to be back. The rest, didn't matter to her.

Emma grinned at Spice as she began to fidget-she really wanted to be off! Emma looked up at Maryn. "Oh, i don't really mind if you want to lead, though the cross country trail is wide and we can both go side by side- Spice loves Casey to bits so thats no problem. And i know how much you love that trail!"
Emma chuckled to herself, remembering the last time they had gone riding , and how Maryn had loved that cross country trail. And so did Spice, which made the gallop even better.

"Oh, I forgot about that!" Maryn replied. "Yea, I do love that trail!" Maryn replied. She wanted so badly to just go. "Yea, I'm sure Casey wouldn't mind for Spice to ride beside him." Maryn said. She then took one more check of Casey before she headed off. he had been ridden, but by it had been by her friend, Piper, all summer. Maryn wanted to make sure he was used to her and could handle it. She couldn't bare for anything to happen to him. Maryn had, had Casey for a long time and she couldn't stand it if he was hurt.
Maryn then looked at Emma. "What are you waiting for?" She asked and then gave an evil, funny smile. "Catch me if you can!" She called as she took off on Casey. It was an incredible feeling. Maryn missed feeling like all the pain was gone. On Casey she was free from memories and other thing. Casey was her angel.

Emma smiled widely as Maryn flew off on Casey. Spice, annoyed that he wasn't ahead, whinied loudly, before setting off in a furious canter after Maryn-urged on by Emma. Laughing heartily, Emma whipped her hair out of her eyes, wishing she had a band to tie it with. "Wahoo!" Emma shouted at the top of her voice. Marynh wasn't too far ahead now, a few more strides and she would be level with her friend. Spice, wanting to be with Casey-or in front, changed her fast canter to a speeding gallop, and soon was next to Casey.

Maryn laughed as Emma speeded up to reach her. Emma was rather giften on Spice just like Maryn was on Casey. Maryn loved her horse because they were so alike. On many occasions, he had speed up at just the right moment. One time, when Maryn was feeing sick at a competition., he jumped over a jump without her comanding it. Caey was a smart and quick thinking horse and Maryn loved him for it.
Emma and Spice were now beside Maryn and Casey. She smiled as they stayed to her side. Maryn pulled Casey's speed down a little so that they could keep up. maryn laughed as a breaze fell on her hair. She hadn't felt it for so long. And she didn't realize untill that moment that she really missed.

Emma laughed at the expression on Maryn's face as they rode together- a look of pure happiness. Emma knew how much this ride meant to Maryn, and was happy that she was the one going with her. Slowing Spice down into a trot and gesturing for Maryn to do the same, Emma said- "How long are we planning to ride Maryn? Because i brought us something!" With a massive grin, Emma pulled from round Spice's stomach a large, green bag. Holding this with one hand, she let Spice find her own way with Casey, and pulled out- A bag of Chocolate frogs, some Bertie Bots every Flavour Beans, Fizzing Whizzbees and several other enjoyable things. Also, Emma had several sandwiches, which the House-Elves had kindly made for her. For the horse's, Emma had brought two tins of special horse feeder, about twenty carrots and three packets of Mary's Magic Mints.
"If we ride for about another hour or two, we can find a clearing, eat some lunch and then head back before the horse's get worn out. Sound ok to you? I don't mind how long we stay out here really, so long as it doesn't get dark too quickly."
Emma clipped the bag back onto Spice's pink saddle, glad she had bought the one with bag attachments. Spice was really in a good mood, and Casey was matching the joyfulness marvellously. Emma thought about the trail ahead- several wonderful jumps that she would love to go over, and she coulcn't wait.

Maryn laughed as Emma pulled out her bag. She moved Casey into a trot. "Yea, that seems like a good plan." She called. Maryn waited for Emma to put her bag up again and started a faster trot. Casey continued at that pace until Maryn spotted a jump up ahead. "Yay, let's go." Maryn said smiling. She decided to go first knowing Emma would understand. Maryn sped Casey up a bit knowing he made the jumps easier at a faster pace. As Maryn approached it, a thrill took over her. She felt like she was flying as she soared over it. Maryn smiled as she landed on the other side.
Maryn moved to the side of the jump and turned around so she could see Emma attempt it. She was pretty sure Emma would have no problem with it. "Come on girl. Jump it and lead the way." Maryn called to her friend. She waited for Emma to make a move.

Emma grinned as she watched her friend do the jump. Patting the bag by her leg again to see if it was safe, she stroked Spice gently across the neck. Maryn was a very good rider- the jump was perfect. Leaning slightly forward, Emma squeezed Spice round the middle, ready for the sudden energy burst as she leapt over the jump. But it didn't happen. Spice began in a smooth, steady canter. About two metres away from the jump, Emma felt her horse's stride change, and Spice reared, snorting in fury, fear and anger. Emma was thrown violently onto the ground, reins ripped from her hands leaving burns. She was suprised- Spice had never thrown her off! Falling on her back, Emma winced then looked up to see her beautiful white horse galloping through the trees, springing with ease over the few branches in her way. She had bolted, and something unknown had made her do it. Looked up, Emma winced again. Not becuase of her back, but becuase this had never happened, and she was scarecd. Standing up with a struggle, Emma looked at Maryn.
"I'm going to find her... but how? This has never happened! What if...what if she gets stuck and-" Then Emma cracked. Big fat tears rolled down her tanned face, dropping onto her jacket. Her hair was a mess, her clothes muddy and her mascara was now running. The ride out was ruined, and Emma had no idea why.

Maryn smiled as Emma started the jump. She knew Emma was a good rider and would probably handle the jump with ease. But, Maryn noticed that Spice suddenly changed. The horse's disposition was different she bolted and threw Emma off. Maryn winced as Emma fell to the ground because she knew that hurt. She watched the horse ran away. Maryn then realized there was a snake right in front of Emma and that was what scared Spice. Maryn bolted off Casey and ran over to her friend. "Emma are you okay?" She asked brushing off some dirt on her. She then remembered the snake. Maryn pushed Emma out of the way as she grabbed her wand from her pocket.
Maryn could tell the snake was poisonous and could probably strike one of the girls. "If Unforgivable curses weren't illegal, I would..." She screamed. "Dilanio!" She yelled as she pointed her wand towards the snake. She watched as it ripped to pieces. "Gross." She cried. "Come on, girl. Let's go find you horse." She said sort of cheerfully as she grabbed Emma's arm and led her towards Casey. Maryn mounted her horse and motioned for Emma to sit behind her. "Come on, double saddle." She said waiting for Emma to respond.

Wiping away her tears, very much embarrassed, Emma accepted Maryn's offer and slung herself over the saddle on Casey. Maryn had kindly taken care of the snake, though Emma would have had it tortured if could. For if Spice wouldn't come back... Emma stifled a cry, and blinked back the new tears. She had ruined MAryn's first ride out- and had lost her horse. Trying to look happy, Emma patted Casey's side and waited for Maryn to begin. "Thanks Maryn- i ruined your ride though, i'm sorry! If we find Spice then we can still have the picnic though..."

"Don't worry girl. This is the most excitement I've had in a long time!" Maryn laughed a bit. "Hold on tight!" She called to Emma as she sped Casey up to a great speed. Maryn wouldn't let Spice get away. She meant to much to Emma and alot to Casey too. Maryn continued to lead Casey in the direction in which Spice had fled. She didn't seem too far off and Maryn was certain they would catch up to her. Finally, Casey caught up to the tired horse, but Spice wouldn't stop running. Maybe more than a snake scared her. Maryn thought. She had never seen a horse that had been spooked so badly by a snake. Maryn then reached into her saddle bag and pulled out a rope. Spice still wouldn't stop even when she saw Emma. Maryn handed the rope to Emma. "I'll get up close to her and you lasso her. Just like Cowboys. Giddy up Partner!" She laughed a bit. Maryn knew Spice would be safe soon.

Emma wiped her last tears away, happy at Maryn's kind answer. Spice looked so shocked she sped on faster, but Casey kept the pace. Maryn handed Emma the lasso, and Emma took it with a grin. She had once won a special lassoing prize, and now she could show her skills. As Maryn drew nearer to Spice, Emma lassoed her horse. "YES" The rng went round Spice nealty, she was cuahgt.

"Yay!" Maryn cheered as Emma threw the lasso around Spice. "Good job girl!' She said. Maryn then stopped Casey so Emma could get back on Spice. "Now, be easy on her. That was some chase!" Maryn commented. She watched as Emma got back on her horse. "Emma, there had to be more than a snake back there. I mean, I know horses hate snakes, but I have never seen Spice act like that before. I think, there was more than we saw. Maybe even some magic involved. What I'm saying is, maybe we were being followed." Maryn let out. She had heard footsteps, but had ignored them. She waited for Emma's response.

Emma froze, her leg resting on Spice's shivering side. Patting her neck soothingly, she answered MAryn with a small voice. "You think? I heard something...but wasn't sure. Well, after than race i think they might be a bit behind! Lets get back to the castle quick. We can have the picnic there if you want." Emma's voice was clear, but she felt like shattered glass. What if there was someone folowing?
