Professor Yelena Nikolaeva walked through the adjoining door of her office to her classroom. This was her first class since joining the Hogwarts’ staff and she was looking forward to the class. She walked into the class, the desks were all aligned and the room was a vast improvement from what it had been only days before: there had been an incident with Peeves. She walked around looking at the different pictures she had put up and some of the other things, such as skeletons of some fearsome creatures.
She walked to her desk and waited, her instruments for the day’s class were already laid out, as well as the text pages that were marked. The class was due to start in a ten minutes, so it gave her a few moments to collect her thoughts. She fixed her olive green robes and began to read a new text that had only been released that morning; it was on pigmy squirrels in Norway, a new species that had just been discovered, that seemed very aggressive and dangerous.
Yelena looked young but she was very experienced with the subject she was hired to teach, and she would prove that to those who thought otherwise. She was older than she looked almost thirty, but having a youthful appearance was a plus in her opinion, people tended not to mind the youth so much, which had made her old job easier.

Phoebe walked down the corridor headed to DADA. She liked this class though she wasn't the best at it. She also liked watching her fellow Slytherins duel with the helpless little Gryffindors. Well she used to but not as much now. Well not all the Gryffindor's were helpless... there was that Harry Potter kid but whatever.
Phoebe walked into the class and took a seat in the second row. She looked around the class and gave it a nod of approval.
"It's okay, better than the others i suppose." She thought with a smirk thinking of the other ways the class was set up.

Parvati put her sketchbook in her book bag and decended down the stairs from the Gryffindor Girl's Dormitory's. It was time for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Not necessarily something Parvati looked forward to. Each year they had a new DADA teacher, and each year the class was cut short.
Parvati sighed as she stepped out of the portrait hole and walked along the corridors until she came to the familiar passageway in which she had to take to get to the ever so popular classroom. 1st year it had been Quirrell, 2nd year it had been Lockhart, 3rd Year it had been Lupin, 4th year it had been Moody, and 5th year it had been Umbridge, she wondered who it would be this year. Parvati shuddered at the memory of Umbridge. She wasn't someone you wanted to remember.
Coming to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, Parvati pushed open the door and stepped inside to the lightly lit room.Though it's lighting had nothing to do with the decor. Skeletons were hanging from places and pictures that Parvati would normally never look at, caught her attention. Parvati touched one picture, and sharply pulled her hand away, feeling a vibe she did not like coming from the paints. Parvati shook her head and set her things down on a desk near her. She then sat down in the chair behind the desk, and looked straight. Hoping that this class would be much different then all teh other DADA's.
Parvati had liked 3rd year. She enjoyed the boggart. Althoough it had turned into a gi-normous snake, she enjoyed turning it into a jack-in-the-box. It made her much more secure around snakes, though she still shuddered at the sight of one. Parvati also enjoyed Care of Magical Creatures that year. The Hippogriff was wonderful, Buckbeak it was called, she thought him beautiful. To her, classes seemed loads easier back when they were first, second, and third years. Well, to her anyway.

Tieing his robe belt loosly around his waist, Leland made his way up from the dungeons to the stair case. Today was his first Defence Against the Dark Arts class, It should be quite informational. Unlike many Slytherin families, the Astor family didnt have any connection to He- Who- Should- not- be named, nor has anyone in his family belonged to any group such as the Death eaters whom follow the Dark Lord. The only other reason why the Leland was in the Slytherin house was that he understood how to act towards people lower in the social scale than himself, and he knew how to uphold his family's image.
Reaching his desired floor, he turned down the corridor toward the DADA classroom. Reaching the door, he turned the knob as he walked in. Only two other students arrived before himsel. A fellow slytherin, but much younger, and a gryffindor. Finding a seat for himself he sat in the farthest back row. Sitting down, he leaned back in his seat to raise the two front legs off the ground. He was early, so he had to occupy myself with something. With a narrow of his eyes Leland glared at the Gryffindor who was also in his same year. He had no intion of conversting with her. He just felt a unease from her. She reminded him of Potter. A goody ol' too shoes, feels the need to suck up to the teacher. 'Oh what fun this class will be.' he thought to himself as he waited a friend to arrive.

Harry was walking from Hagrid's hut to the castle. He ending his conversation with his good friend early so he could mak his way to his DADA class.
Into the school, and up the stairs, Harry went. The castle's floors werent as covered as people as they normally were. Other than himself about five other people were walking around also. Reaching the third floor he walked down the vast hallway toward the classroom. Seeing a few people walk into the classroom, he followed.
Catching the door with his hand, he pushed it open. Three other people were there, but Ron nor Hermione arrived yet. Finding a seat in the first row, which seemed to be the only row empty of seats of course only for the time being. Sitting down at the corner, Harry took out his wand as he grasped it in his hand. He lost himself in the intrecit design as he heard another person walk through the door.

Liam was busy all morning, trying to fight back excitement over the fact that Defense Against the Dark Arts class was beginning today. He was curious about what the new professor would be like, weather they would be strict or easy going. He picked up his things off the floor in the common room and headed out the portrait hole.
When he finally reached the classroom, Liam saw that there were already several students waiting for the class to begin. He saw several people that he knew from his house, including Harry Potter. Liam walked to the front row of desk and tool a seat several chairs down from Harry, knowing that he was waiting for his friends.

Parvati was bored. Bored. Bored. Bored. She needed something to past the time by until everyone arrived. She bit her bottom lip and pulled out her sketchbook and a pencil. She nodded and then flipped the cover to the back and started to draw. She didn't know what she was drawing exactly, all she knew was that she was glad she was drawing.
The lead made a soft scratching noise as she drew it across the page, and erased her mistakes. Parvati was losing her touch. She was messing up more and more often. She knew it was probably just a phase, but it scared her. She never messed up as much. Parvati's thoughts wandered as she continued to draw. When she was brought back to the present Parvati looked down at her drawing and tilted her head.
"A moon." She said in disbelief. She had drawn a moon without thinking. She then shrugged and flipped the page to a drawing she was trying to finish in the common room. It had been too loud to draw though so she had packed up her things and called it an early night. But now, it was silent and you could probably hear a pin drop. Parvati smiled as she connect three lines and shaded in an eye. She was drawing a phoenix. It wasn't her best, but it was good.
Parvati bit her lip once more and tilted her head to examine her finished work. It was good. But not great. With a sigh, she signed her name at the bottom. P.M.P. and dated it. She looked up to see if class had started yet, hoping it had because she was still bored.

Justin looked awoke and looked around realising that nobody was there. (Oh-no ,) he thought (I missed the bell.) he hurriely put his books and stuff into his bag. hethen rushed to his next class DATDA. He ran most of the way until he reached the door. He walked in and noticed that there were only a few students in there. He sat down beside Parvati Patil and said "HI Parvati ,whatcha doing?"

Defence Against the Dark Arts. Finally. It was the class Robin was looking forward too most as he wished to become an Auror, and this was the one class that Robin really worked hard at and participated in actively. Not that he had been given the chance to do anything last year with that stupid teacher who had expected them to just sit around and read her useless book which Robin had found shallow and very boring. It concentrated mainly on the theories behind the defence techniques, and hardly provided any information about the situations in which they could be useful or how to perform them effectively. Hopefully Professor Nikolaeva would be completely different than Umbridge. Of course Robin had learnt to depend on himself when it came to researching and exploring the subject, but a good teacher would definitely make a real difference. Robin was leaving at the end of this year, and he wanted to have a thorough background before he began his training.
Robin sauntered into class with his new textbook which he had been pleasantly surprised to discover covered many areas of Defence. He favoured the Professor with a smile before taking a seat in the second row waiting for class to begin. He looked at the people around him. He thought to himself that he must be early, as not too many students had arrived. In some ways that was a blessing as they were taking the class with the Slytherins. The less he saw of them the better. Or maybe they would learn some new hex and get to try it out on the Slytherins. Now that would be fun.

Parvati looked to her left and smiled at Justin. She shut her sketchbook and placed it back in her bookbag.
"Hey. Nothing, just drawing pityfully waiting for class to start. It's boring doing nothing." She answered as she tilted her head and played with her earring.

Amelia walked down the corridor, on her way to DADA, one of the most boring classes ever! She hated it, but her friends were somtimes in the classes so she was bound to be fine. She turned a few more corners and soon came to the classroom. She was dissapointed to see that it was Slytherins joining with them. She sighed and sat down at a desk. She wanted, just once, to have more than one class with the Hufflepuffs. Her two best friends were in Hufflepuff, after all (Kelsey Maddison and Jordan Cortes).
She looked around and spotted Parvati. She stood quickly and walked over. She was drawing, as always and doing very well.
"hey," she said friendly as she sat down next to her 'friend'.

((All the creatures for this class can be found on this website, or by running your own searches if you wish: www.parascope.com/en/cryptozoo/predators.htm ) Yelena stood when enough students were present and the time for class had started. She stood and walked slowly in front of her desk and propped against it, looking at the students. “Good day to you all students. I am your new Professor for the Defence Against the Dark Arts. My name, is Yelena Nikolaeva.” She walked forward and began to peruse the aisles, “Now, there only a few things you need to know here for us to have a good experience this year. Number one: Do not be afraid to ask. Number two: Do not speak unnecessarily; I am sure you by now know what the consequences for this is. With me you get two chances after that…” she walked back to the front of her desk and looked at the students smiling. “Number three: Raise your hand to answer my questioned and number four: Have fun with what you are going to learn.” Yelena walked to the blackboard, “This year we are going to be studying those creatures that the muggle world have seen, but deem as hoaxes and fakes. Creatures they do not want to believe exist, but do. We wizards have been aware of them and try our best to deal with their surfacing, but that is not always possible. You will also see how the human condition and want to disbelieve has proven a great ally to us. We hardly ever have to alter the memories of muggles who spot these creatures as most people do not believe them, and most never say a word to anyone for fear of ridicule.” She flashed her wand over the board and the picture of a smallish creature with big eyes and spikes along its back appeared. “We are going to be studying two creatures in this class today and this is the first. Now, who can tell me what this is?” she said and waited for the first hand to rise.

Parvati looked up as class began. She then raised her hand timidly to answer the Professors question. She furrowed her eyebrow and looked up at the board. It was a fearsome creature, that she had only heard legends about. She didn't think it was real.
"Is that..a....a...El Chupacabras?" She asked, feeling slightly astonished at the picture in front of her. She tilted her head and looked at the drawing once more. It was...unbelievable.

Yelena looked around, only one person had their hand up, and since no one else seemed inclined to answer, when the girl spoke and announced it to the class she did not bother, “Very good Ms. Patil, that is absolutely correct. Five points to Gryffindor.” She walked back behind her desk, “That is right, muggles call them El Chupacabras, or goat sucker, but we in the wizarding world call them Alderglix,” she waved her wand and the name appeared beneath the creature. “Now can anyone tell me what these creatures prey on and where they can be found? If you can tell me their exact method of killing I will give an extra five points.” She looked around for any raised hands.

Dawn walked through the halls to DADA. She always enjoyed this class. She was very good in her classes with grades and what not. It may not seem that way, but she was quite smart. Arriving shortly after Leland Astor, she found a seat next to him. With a grin, the class started.
Parvati answered the first question and gained points for Gryffindor which afted potions class, began lacking points. A second question was asked as Dawn thought on the answer for a few moments. Dawn rose her hand into the air. She knew some ways how the El Chupacabras killed its prey, but wasnt sure on the exact method. She could maybe get a few points for her beloved house.

Parvati smiled as she gained a few points for Gryffindor. But she kicked herself mentally when she realized she had spoken without being called on. She sighed as another question was asked. Parvati knew the answer to this one too, but thought she should let someone else answer. She watched as Dawn rose her hand. Wonderful, Parvati thought.

Yelena looked around, it seemed only one person was brave enough to attempt her question, and to her surprise it was a Slytherin. “Yes, Ms. McGrogan,” she said, calling on Dawn, an older Slytherin girl, who from her records seemed quite capable.

Professor Nikolaeva called on Dawn. Lowering her hand she began to speak. "Well I dont know exactly how the El Chupacabras kills its prey, but I do know that it has takes the blood out of its prey by only one puncture wound. In nearly all cases, the animal was drained completly from all of its blood." Dawn said as she answer with as much knowledge she knew of the El Chupacabras as she could.

Amelia proped her head onto her elbow and sighed, already getting bored. She looked down at her parchent and started to doodle uncontiously writing Liam's name on her paper. She silently gasped and crossed it out, looking around hoping no one saw it. She then shrugged, she went to the ball with him, so that must mean that most everyone knew she and him liked each other. So she uncovered her 'doodle' and began to rewrite his name, this time making it look fancy with stars and swirls. Amelia liked to draw, not people or animals, but letters.
She smiled finishing her design. it was very complicated looking and was quite cool looking.
