Post by Professor Filius Flitwick on Aug 28, 2004 17:21:28 GMT
Filius walked into his Charm class room with a smile on his small face. Flicking his wrist at every window the blinds flew to the top and bright sun light flew in from the outside. Secondly, the bottoms of the windows creaked open so fresh air could circulate as well. “Good day, Good Day.” He murmured to himself as he strolled through the room and stacked extra Books in the corner. When he was done with that, he pointed his wand to two fans on the ceiling, they started to rotate. The room was extremely vast, Dark Grey stone walls with dark mahogany floors. Different than any other room the desk faced in from the left and right walls, so anyone could walk to the middle and be seen by all the students.
Today Filius was teaching his first class of the year, to his first years. A well rounded classroom was sure to attend, and he was quite pleased that he was teaching Charms still, for so many years. A few new spells would be taught today, since this is going to be the first class many of these students actually get to use their wands, it just might be delayed a bit.
Student by student stared to arrive. “Hello, Hello, Good Day.” He greeted to a few students as they greeted him. After taking rule Filius started. “Good Morning, Good Day, Hello to everyone. My name is Professor Flitwick and I will be your charms teacher for the rest of the year. I want to First off welcome you all to Hogwarts school of Witch Craft and Wizardry. And this is going to be a fun class for most of you. Since today will be the first time you get to use your wands for some and just a review for others, we will not fret over small mistakes. It’s a given to new users of the wand and a practicer of the wand too.” He said with a smile as he looked over his students. “Now For House points everyone, Please give me a few good reasons why Charms is such an Important Class.” With a smile he waited for hands to rise into the air.

Liam was in the great hall eating his breakfast on the first day of class. He was in a hurry to finish, for today ws the first day of Charms class. He liked having Professor Flitwick as the instructor, and didn't want to be late. He quickly ate his toast and left the great hall.
As he walked through the halls, he heard many students talking about how great it was to be back at Hogwarts. When Liam finally reached the classroom, he heard the professor walking about straightening the room. As Liam walked into the room, he said, "Good day Professor." Liam took his seat in the back row of desks and waited for the class to begin.

Ivy walked along the brightly lit corridor, smiling slightly. Breakfast had tasted wonderful for once as she had not had to make it and she was finally back among her friends. Well, at the moment she was on her own. But she didn't mind. It was wonderful to be among the other students' chatter, where she could melt into the background at will. Her first lesson was to be Charms. She quite liked Professor Flitwick - he was a patient teacher who didn't give up on her the first time she tried a spell. She turned into a bright, sunlit classroom, into which fresh early autumn air was flooding through the open windows. Ivy smiled brightly at Professor Flitwick as she entered. There were quite a few other students in the class already - she had arrived, as usual, not early, but not late either. Ivy took a seat at the side of the classroom, unpacked her things, and waited for her friend to arrive and for the lesson to begin.

Kiyla had just come from breakfast, eating by herself as usual. She sat there eating her food (which was pretty good!) listening to everyone else’s conversation like she usually does. She couldn’t find her friend, her only friend, after breakfast so she walked to Charms alone. She walked along the corridor fading into the background hoping that this year would be much better than it has been the year before. The past years she had been so quiet no one really noticed her. She was hoping she could change that and act more like herself. She walked into the classroom to see Professor already there. She nodded a greeting to the Professor and looked around the classroom to see that students were there. She spotted Ivy Tunstall sitting be herself and walked over to her hoping that she was saving that seat for her. She sat down and took the things that she would need out of her bag getting ready for class. “Hi.” She said to Ivy.

Ivy smiled warmly as her best friend walked over to her and vacated the seat next to her. "Hi," she said, as Kiyla started getting her stuff out. "I didn't see you this morning. First lesson of this year..." They were both quite quiet girls but both, Ivy suspected, restrained a slightly louder character. Professor Flitwick began to speak, and Ivy fell silent, listening to what he was explaining about their first Charms lesson of the year.

Kiyla smiled for the first time it seemed in months. It felt so good to see her best friend again. She turned her attention to the Professor to hear him talking about what they would be learning of. Kiyla thought about raising her hand to answer hios question but decided against it since her brain wasn't really functioning well. She looked around the room to see if anyone would had their hand up.

Ayumi bit into her toast, as she turned her head to look at a group of passing Slytherin girls. She had decided not to eat breakfast, but to instead grab something small, and roam the long and unfamiliar corridors in the time she had before her first class. Ayumi wiped her hand on her robe, brushing off the crumbs. Ayumi tredded softly up the staircase, praying that it wouldn't move on her unexpectantly. She let out a deep breathe as her foot tapped lightly on the floor, and she began to walk towards a door.
She was confident that the instructions that she had been given was correct, after all why would a Slytherin 5th year mislead her...
Ayumi placed her hand on the door, her heart thumping, and her mind whirring. She was so sure it was here, but why the heck was she having her doubts. She pushed the door open, and stepped in as silently as she possible could. She let out a sigh of relief, Yes I'm here. she thought enthusiastically. She quickly looked around, and saw that there was already 3 students abroad. She then spotted a familiar face and was glad to see that he was there. She walked towards the table, and sat next to Liam, "Well well well, Look who's here." SHe said with a smile, as she dipped her quill into her ink bottle, and began scribbling on her parchment

As Liam was sitting with his eyes closed, waiting for class to start, he began to the dream about all of the trouble that could be had this year. When Liam finally opened his eyes, he saw a familiar sight. It was Ayumi, the first year he'd met in The Leaky Cauldron and sat with on the train to Hogwarts. As she headed for him he noticed he still hadn't taken his books and other things out of his bag. As he rushed to do so, Ayumi was already getting her things ready for class. "Yeah, I'm here. I just can't believe I was so early, I'm never this early," Liam said as he watched Ayumi scribble on her parachment. "Do you know why Charms is so important? If you do, it's worth house points," Liam whispered.

Ayumi began to draw circles on her parchment in a daze, she listened as Liam talked and thought about his question. As she thought, she heard her stomach emit a low growl. "Very nice" She muttered as she rubbed her hand on it. "Heh I woke up quite early today...just to give myself the tour.." She said with a shrug, continuing to draw circles. She then stopped, and raised her hand, and answered, "Charms is an important class because it teaches the basic fundamentals of magic, it's the first steps to using magic. It also teaches us some spells that make our lives easier. Such as levitation, moving inanimate objects, cleaning with just the flick of your wand, and finally, lighting a room with a simple chant." Ayumi said with confidence, returning to her mindless scribbling.

She had gotten there early--as usual. Charms was her absolute favorite class, and the thought of possibly missing even a moment caused her to wake up an hour early, have only a mouthfull of breakfast, and dark off to class, sitting in the very far back corner, a seat almost invisable, long before anyone else came into the room. She watched a slow trickle of students finally start coming into the room. She reconized some of them, but she still stayed silent, forgotten in her little corner.
Then, she saw Ivy. She didn't know the other girl well, but she knew that she was from Hufflepuff.
She watched her for a long moment, trying to gathe rup her courage. This was the year she said she was going to be brave and make friends wasn't it?
After a moment of pausing, she forced herself to rise and after scooping up her books and parchment, she walked down to a seat near Ivy and anothergirl she didn't know
"Hi...do you mind if I sit here?"

Kiyla was trying her hardest to listen to what the Professor. She nearly jumped when a girl, whom she didn't know but reconized to be in Hufflepuff, asked, "Hi... do you mind if I sit here?" "No not at all." Kiyla said with a smile. Then turned back to the Professor not really listening. It was the first time someone talked to her besides Ivy. Well others talked to her but just to say, "Excuse me.", "Sorry didn't see you there.", things like that. It gets rather embarrassing, thought Kiyla with a silent sigh while listening to a girl answer the Professors question. She turned her attention to the Professor again.

Watching the students filter into the class room a new first year rose her hand ans spoke out as she said that answer. Filius spoke and said in a calm tone. "Dear Kimoto, im guessing? Ahh yes it is you." he said with a smile. "A new young Gryffindor. Well, I do love your answer. All very true, except I would like you to wait for me to call on you before you speak out in class. I will be an easy teacher for you all this year, only if you listen to what I need to say and all of my rules." He said with a nodd. "But Dear, I will award your house 5 House points for your correct answer." he said with a smile clasping his hands together. "But do remember to wait untill you are call upon to answer." He said with a smile. Standing on his podium he begins. “Everyone we are going to start with the simple Swoop. Pick a point and make a half circle clockwise motion going down. Act like you are making a clock go from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock. Everyone please copy this action.” Flitwick insisted. After everyone did it a few times, He began again. “Good Job everyone. Now the flick. A simple back and forth movement of the wrist. Copy this please.” He said as he watched the student’s attempt. “Good Job. Now together. Swoop, Flick, and repeat, Swoop, Flick.” He said as he went on, and many copied him. Now we are doing the simple levitating spell. Wingardium Leviosa. It is the simple Swoop and flick that you have just done. “Now, before we do this I want you all to set down your wands… Come, come now. Set them down.” He insisted as he waited till everyone did so. “Alright we are going to say Wingardium Leviosa. Strong and proud. And remember all pronunciation is the key! Now try, Wingardium Leviosa.” He moved his small arms so all the students would join him in saying it. “Wingardium Leviosa, Wingardium Leviosa” he chanted until everyone said it a few times and stuck in their heads. “Good Job. Alright everyone pick your wands up again. And try the spell. With the Swoop, Flick. Wingardium Leviosa!” Professor Flitwick’s book in front of him rose into the air. “All 1st -3rd years, please do this now. He said as he waited and watched over all of his new students. ((Everyone keep in mind you are the youngest bunch of the School, and Hermione Granger isn’t in your class. Please show some disability to the spell. Maybe after a few trys then you get it. Also, Yes, you are still allowed to join this class post. I wanted to get this class started since we have a line up of classes for this month. Just post you have been sitting in the class all along, or you arrived late. Your call. )

She bit her bottom lip in concentration as she picked up her want and started the swoosh and flick motion. She remembered it all very strongly from the year before, but her motions were very stiff, rusty from the summer off.
I should have at least praticed the motion over the summer She throught to herself as she noticed how akward she seemed. Sadly, magic did not come naturally to her.
She then repeated the words in her head. They too were a review, but she still remembered them only vaguly.
I should have reviwed my charms too She thought again, before doing as she was told, and trying the swish-flick-Wingardium Leviosa on her quill, which remained unmoved on the table.

Ayumi nodded silently at Professor Flitwicks response, maybe her confidence did get the best of her a bit. She sighed, and picked up her wand, attempting to duplicate the movement that Professor Flitwick was doing. It took her awhile, but she finally managed it, after about 50 tries. Her wrist hurt a little after forcing the movement upon it, but the pronounciation was complcated for her, seeing that she had an Japanese tongue.
She flicked her wand and said, "Windgerdium Leviose!" her quill flopped to the side, "ahem, WindgirDIUM LAViosI!" She said, her quill almost shot at her. Sighing, she tried again, taking a deep breathe, and said, "WINDGORDIUM LEVIOSA!" She said in an enraged tone. The quill flopped over, and off the table. She sighed, and calmed herself down a bit, to regain some self-control

As Liam watched all of the other students trying the Wingardium Leviosa spell, he had realized that it had been some time since he even used this charm. He picked up his wand and slowly made the swoop and flick motion several times before saying the words. With a swoop and flick, Liam said, "Wingardium Leviosa." After several attempts that ended with failure, Liam set his wand down and tried to clear his mind. 'All of these other students saying the charm is giving me a headache,' Liam thought. After a few moments, Liam picked his wand up and tried again.
After about five more tries, Liam was about to give up. He decided that this next time would be the one that would work. With a swoop and flick, Liam said, "Wingardium Leviosa." This time the book that Liam was practicing, on rose into the air a few inches off the desk, before it crashed back onto the desk with a loud 'thud'.

Zanna shouted at the feather it didn't move. "Wingardium Leviosa", Zanna said finally the feather lifted," well finaly." Zanna said in anger. The feather went one inch up of her then fell down.

Kiyla looked around the class at the students attempts to do the Charm. Most of them finally got it after awhile sso she decided she should do it as well. She did the motion a couple of times then said, "Winguardium Leviousa." It didn't work. She did the motion and said it once more and it still didn't work. After about 20 times she dropped her wand in anger ready to throw the book that she was practicing on. "Calm down." She whispered to herself. She picked up her wand once more and did the motion and said, "Winguardium Leviosa." And her book rose in the air for a few seconds to her delight.

"I don't get it!" Ayumi yelled as she pushed her book off the table, glaring at it. She then noticed that she had disrupted a few students, and quickly picked up her book, and returned to her chair. "Ok this was the spell that got me in detention, now why isn't it working!" She muttered forcibly to herself. She then took a deep breathe, and tried to mimick the feeling that she had felt that same day that she had attacked the squib. A grin spread across her face, as she stared at the dreaded book, and pronoucned elegantly, "Wingardium Leviosa." And instantly, her book sprang up into the air. She manuvuered it quite easily, and then sent it back down her her desk gently. She smiled to herself, but almost jumped when she heard Liam's book fall hard onto the desk.

Ivy smiled at Nokomis as she sat down next to Kiyla. She looked just as shy as ever, yet in a way there was a hint of determination.
A first year confidently answered Professor Flitwick's question, without having waited for him to call upon her. Ivy felt a twinge of annoyance, but quickly suppressed it, the Professor gently rebuked the first year anyway.
They were going to practice 'Wingardium Leviosa' today. Ivy didn't remember it particularly well, despite having achieved good marks in the exam last year. The strains of the summer had wiped all thoughts of spells she had done last year out of her mind. But she was confident she would get the hang of them all again quickly enough.
"Wingardium Levosa", she said. "Wingardium Levi-" she broke off and jumped a little in fright as books came crashing down around her. She focused on the book in front of her, blocking out Kiyla beside her and everyone else mispronouncing the spell around her. "Wingardium Leviosa", she said, clearly and calmly, and allowed herself a burst of triumph as the book in front of her rose in the air for a few seconds, and then slowly fell back down with a dull thud.
She turned to Kiyla beside her, who had just successfully managed the spell, and smiled, before doing the spell again, each time regaining more control over the object in front of her.

Kiyla looked over to Ivy who had just did the spell successllfully and smiled then started doing the spell again successfully with the book floating around then she guided it back to her table. "Well it's about time I got this right," Kiyla thought to herself happily.
