Sitting in her office, Professor Maranda Sinistra looked though her lessons. Putting some of her dark brown locks behind her left ear she fixed her thin silver frame glass. Reviewing her lessons for her class tonight she looked over everything. Seconds the sound of wind chimes filled her room. Raising her head she looked at her clock on the wall it read 8:45 pm. It had five hands, one for the hour, one for the minute, on for the second, one for the rise and set of the sun, and one for the rise and set of the moon. With a nod of her head she pushed back her chair and gathered a few lesson papers and left the room.
After a few minutes Maranda arrived at the two main oak doors of the school. Pushing one open she walked down the stone stairs at a fast pace walk. Crossing the lawns she went behind the green houses and kept walking. Her long dark blue cloak flew behind her as a cool night breeze flew around the castle. A stone path came into view as she took out her wand. “Lumos.” She said as Maranda kept walking and following the path into a grove of trees. Going up a small hill she was in the darkness of the woods and the only light was coming from her wand. After reaching the top of the hill Maranda was in a clear grass area free of trees. Sitting on the side of the grass area was a tree stub where Professor Sinistra set down her lesson plans.
Turning to the stone path Sinistra pointer her wand at the ground, the stones began to shine a light blue glow which would help the student’s way up to the landing. It was a clear night and a perfect Wednesday night for an Astronomy class. Taking off her glasses she set them in her pocket a she crossed her arms over her oversized cloak and looked up to the sky, while waiting for her students to arrive.
The night before Maranda sent out Owls telling all of her students to arrive at 9:00, and she gave directions to the place. The students should be arriving any moment since it was 8:50 already.
((Alright everyone, this class will start on Wednesday October 17th. If you have Astronomy for a class Post before Wednesday so we can start promptly on the 17th. Thank you and I hope this will be a fun class for everyone.))

Jordan smiled as she walked up the blue lit path. Astronomy by far was her favorite subject and she had been waiting all term for the class to begin, and now that it had indeed begun she had been anxious about it all day. Her owl had landed in her porridge, as always, and she had read the letter. Her day was bright and happy and she was just full of energy. Her star gazing days began when she was littler, and she loved it. A sense of security enveloped her as she looked up into the starry skies. It was almost time, and she knew she would be early. But then again, Jordan loved being early to her favorite classes.
As Jordan reached the top she saw a woman standing at the top, arms crossed and she seemed entranced by the night sky. Jordan smiled and realized she would like this teacher, if she was so entranced by the beautiful spectacle then Jordan would definitly like her. Jordan smiled widely and looked around. She frowned a little, realizing she didnt have a place to sit, and she didnt know where to sit exactly.
"Hello. I'm Jordan Cortes." She said approaching the teacher with a smile on her face. She looked up at the sky and nodded.
"I love Astronomy. It makes me feel secure." Jordan smiled again and turned to face the teacher.

Ivy sighed as she gathered up her things. She felt tired tonight, and ready almost to turn in, but instead she had to attend an Astronomy class. Most nights she was enthusiastic to get outside and star-gaze, but not tonight.
Ivy moved swiftly out of the warm light of the Hufflepuff Common Room, walking purposefully towards the aera where they would be having the Astronomy lesson. She walked up the stone path, eerily lit in the blue path. She felt like falling asleep. How glad she would be when this light ended and she got to be in the darkness again...
Ivy blinked, trying to clear the tiredness. She needed a clear head for Astronomy. It wasn't her best subject, but it wasn't by far her worst either. Looking ahead, she saw Jordan talking to the teacher. Jordan loved the stars, Ivy remembered.
Ivy walked the last few hundred yards slowly, thinking how peaceful the surroudings were. Then she mounted the crest of the hill, and, not sure what to do, just stood there in a shy stance. Jordan would know what she should do, she thought, and would soon come to her rescue.

Kiyla slipped out of the Hufflepuff Common Room with a smile on her face. She was happy that tonight she had Astronomy. She had always loved looking at the stars and she also loved being outside at night. She was like a night owl.
Kiyla followed the blue lite path while looking up at the stars kind of in a trance. She smiled when she saw her best friend, Ivy and her other friend Jordan. She walked over to them and saw her teacher.
Oh cool! Kiyla thought with a grin. She looked at Ivy and Jordan.
"Hey. Doesn't it look pretty out tonight?" Kiyla said looking up again at the stars.

Kelsey smiled at the clock. ASTRONOMY!! she thought to herself in excitedment. She stood and grabbed her bag from the chair. Her book was then stuffed into her bag and Kelsey walked out of the Hufflepuff Common Room. She was excited to have a class with her two best friends. Amelia and Jordan may be two years younger, but Kelsey loved their up beat personality.
She walked faster now, excitment taking over as she speed-walked down the staircases. She made it outside almost running. She walked over a small hill and noticed that there wasn't many kids at the small meeting place yet. She saw Jordan and Kiyla were already there. And one of Amelia's friends, Ivy was there also.
She walked down the hill and leaned against a tree, humming a new song she had started to make up for her Violin.

Jordan turned slightly and the sound of humming. A smile spread across her face and she ran to hug Kelsey. She tackled her friend and they fell to the ground, laughing.
"Oi! What are you doing tackling me?" Jordan asked laughing. She smiled and stood up, brushed herself off and extended her hand to pull Kelsey up.

Liam had been waiting in the Gryffindor common room until it was time for Astronomy class. He grabbed up his things and headed out the portrait hole, down the staris and out the oak doors. He finally came to a path of stone, lit with blue light. He walked down the path until he reached the clearing at the end.
Liam saw that he wasn't the first student to arrive, but was the first Gryffindor student to make it to the clearing. He noticed weveral Hufflepuff girls already waiting for the class to begin, some of who were having conversations amongst themselves. Liam found a tree close to the back of the clearing, where he leaned, waiting for the class to begin.

He never was one to go to bed early, so the fact that class was at nine, made this night like every other. He liked astronomy, it was probably tied with transfiguration for his second favorite class. He somehow always found a connection between it and his true love--charms. Somehow, they both seemed to have this soft, yet extremely powerful energy to them, and that was something that always attracted him.
As he made his way up the path towards the spot his owl that morning had told them to meet at, he smiled at the glowing stones. It was a nice touch--it was also one of those extremely entertaining, not always useful charms that he love.
When he finally reached the stop where class was supose to meet, he noticed a slowly growing group of Hufflepuffs, one of which was much more familiar than the rest.
"We seem to be running into eachother everywhere these days" He commented, joining the other Hufflepuffs.

Even though he was in the common room, lost in his psychology book, he would never be late for astronomy. At 8:30, he glanced up at the clock. He nodded slightly to himself, and put down his book. He went up to his bed chambers to gather his things for astronomy, and through his thicker cape over his shoulders, the evening air tended to be a bit chilly this time in the fall.
He was soon making his way up the bath towards the spot the Astronomy class was supose to meet at. Some students had gathered there already, including some Hufflepuffs he had been watching the behvior of latley. He looked past them though, and smiled at the professor
"Good Evening Professor Sinstra"

Syd sat by the lake as she looked at the water as the shining starts from the sky reflected off of it. in a serine scene all you could here were the bugs chirp. It was perfect. Suddenly students piled out of the school as they started to make their way towards the forest. Syd a little confused, stood up to see what they were doing. A quick reminder popped in her head. "astronomy' With a grin on her face. She fixed her cloak as she started on her way towards the area where Professor Sinistra was.
Following the glowing stones to the top of the hill into a clearing Sydney found herself at the Astronomy Class. Glancing around she saw Kamron standing. With a smile she crept up behind him as she put her arms over his shoulders and covered his eyes. she said in a different voice, "Guess who!"

It was an instinctual reaction for him to lift his own hands, his fingers wrapping around her wrists; nothing could have hid the smile that crossed his face when he realized who it was either
"It is the one one frees me from the weight and pain of life" He answered, changing the words of Sophocle's to do so.
He move his hands to her own and pulled her fingers away from his eyes, though he held them close together near his neck, his own fingers still wrapped around them. He then tilted his head back, his smile growing as he saw her--his guess was right, just as he knew it would be.

Parvati trudged up the hill, her lavender book bag over her shoulder and sketchbook in hand. She smiled as she reached the top and placed her bag on the ground. She looked around and saw a few people she knew. She looked to her right and saw Liam leaning against a tree.
"Hey." She said approaching him, she crossed her arms and smiled at him. A wind blew by and Parvati shuddered against the sudden cold.
"How are you tonight?" She asked as she looked up at the sky. Perfect night for Astronomy, only if she didnt have an itch to draw instead of look at the stars.

Colin Jaspar followed in the wake of two Hogwarts' students he didn't know the names of but knew had signed up for Astronomy like him, his face a little flushed in excitement. It was the first time in his life to take a class at night, and also in the outdoors. Sure they had done a little about nature in the Muggle school he had attended before Hogwarts but he was sure that the class would be, as everything was to him at first in the magical world, different from what he expected.
Colin wondered what Professor Sinistra would be like. The two professors he had attended classes with had been the exact opposite of each other, in appearance and character. The Charms professor was old, benevolent, kind and very easy-going, but Professor Snape the Potions professor was the exact opposite. He had absolutely no patience, was extremely sarcastic and hated all the Gryffindor students. Soon Colin arrived at the end of the stone path and stood behind the youngest students he could find; three Hufflepuff girls he didn't know. He shifted his weight uneasily from one foot to another, wondering what would happen next, not really feeling the slight cold breeze brush against his robes as he did so.

Post by Nasser Salah G6 on Oct 21, 2004 0:38:53 GMT
The first class of Astronomy was due in a few minutes. Nasser Salah was making sure he had all the required equipment with him, as today's lesson was to be a practical one, and they might need to draw a chart or something, and the last thing Nasser wanted was to have to run back to school and get anything he had left behind. Nasser hoped he would find some of his friends to sit with in today's class, not that they would during class, but it was nice to have somebody you knew to sit with and ask questions if you missed something.
Nasser made his way down the familiar path to class where the Professor and several students were already assembled. For a minute Nasser wondered if it had taken him longer than usual to get ready for class, than noticed that nobody had done anything yet, which meant he wasn't late. He smiled at the professor in greeting then went and stood by the only two fifth years he could see. Apparently not many fifth yeas had signed up for the class, and Nasser hoped that this was not because the subject was difficult at OWL level. They already had enough work as it was, and though Nasser did not excel at this class like some of his other subjects, he found it interesting enough and had never had any real difficulty with it.
Nasser waited for further instructions from Professor Sinistra as he watched the two fifth years joke with each other. Suddenly Nasser found himself wishing that a certain person was here and looking at him in the same way Sydney and Kamron were looking at each other. He drew his robes more closely around him, and tried to push this thought into the recesses of his mind and concentrate on something else. Now was not the time to think of such things.

"Good Evening, Good Evening." she said as she saw students arrive on time. She quickly started, "Welcome to your first Astronomy Class of the year. This class will be held promptly once every month on a wednesday which I assign. A notice will be posted on your Common Room notice board when it will be held." She said in a stern but joyous voice.
Glancing over the hills behind all the students Maranda noticed a sudden shine of a few stars. "Best get starting shall we." She said as she unfolded her arms. "As you can all see the moon is at its First quarter tonight." she said as she motioned to the sky.
Glancing around at the radent glowing balls of light in the sky above everyone, she ended with the words, "Ah HA!" She said stunning most fo the students by her random expressment of words. "There we go. It was due to be out this week!" she said as a little comment to herself as she looked towards the students. "Right above the tree over there," she pointed to the place, "There is a trail of stars, you see. It is nicknamed 'the river.' Can anyone point out, or try to tell me what the real name of the grouping of stars is? It starts with an E." she said with a hint to everyone in a dreamy and hidden tone.
Maranda was a strong beliver in horoscopes and the alining of the stars in the sky. She made her mood off of what her horoscope said. She was good friends with Professor Trelawney, but there was a difference between the two teachers. Professor Sinistra didnt force her beliefs on you- she just helped with the learning process of stars and what not.
With a smile towards the students in front of her she waited for a hand to raise into the air to answer her question.

Ivy watched quietly as Kiyla and then quite a few other Hufflepuffs came and stood by her and Jordan. She said nothing, withdrawing slightly from the group, looking up and gazing at the night stars. The stars gave her a kind of peace of mind, although she knew little about them. Just that the universe was big, big, big. Many powers of ten.
That wasn't really why Ivy was looking away up to the sky though. She was becoming more and more withdrawn recently. She couldn't even start to explain it herself.
With a sigh, Ivy looked towards the teacher, who had started to speak, raising her voice slightly in a way that had made Ivy jump. She followed her pointing finger to above the trees. At first she saw very little. You could see fainter stars around here, because it was darker, but you couldn't where she lived, in the suburbs of a small town, floodlit by Muggle streetlights as soon as it started to get dark. In a way they were a blessing. She was sure they prevented crime. But on the other hand, they stopped her from seeing any but the very brightest stars, even on the darkest night.
At last Ivy saw what Professor Sinistra meant, but she didn't know the answer to her question. Ivy just stood there, looking glum, hoping that not all that many other people wouldn't know the answer either so she didn't look like too much of a dunce.

Kelsey laughed as she stood taking Jordan's hand. She sighed happily, shaking twigs from her black hair.
"Jordan... you are funny!" Kelsey laughed as she got the rest of the grass and dirt from her robes. she smiled as Proffesor Sinistra started the class. She looked around, realizing Amelia wasn't there yet. Liam was... but where was Amelia? she sighed then and looked at Jordan.
"Where's Amy?" Kelsey had just recently started using Amelia's nickname.

Amelia looked up from her book at the clock and gasped. She was late for Astronomy! She threw all her things into her bag and ran ot of the Library, skidding to a halt before the staircases, She bounded down the staircases. It felt as if it took forever to get down the stairs. Finally she was at the doors, panting, she opened them and ran across the lawn. Her heart pounded as she came to the clearing. She saw Kelsey and Jordan standing there but continued toward Proffesor Sinistra. She had a pleading look on her face as she said:
"Proffesor!" she panted, "I am so sorry for being late! I... I was reading in the Library and lost track of time!" she sighed, wishing she wasn't late.

Jordan watched as Amelia trudged up the hill, out of breath and running rather late. She smiled to her friend and turned to Kelsey.
"There, and late for once." She whispered as she watched Amelia talk to the Professor. Jordan thought about Professor Sinistra's question and shrugged. Normally she was rahter good at Astronomy, but lately she had been off. She didn't know the answer to the Professor's question.

Kiyla smiled as Payton arrived.
"Hello, Payton." She said looking at him then turning towards Ivy only to see that she had moved away. She could tell something was up with her, she had been sort of distant lately. But this time not just from everyone else. It was Kiyla too. Kiyla looked at Ivy look at the stars but reluctantly tore her attention away as the Professor spoke.
She looked up to where the Professor pointed but she didn't really know the answer. She just sighed and looked at the stars. She wondered what her horoscope had been for today.
Probably... 'A good friend will grow distant as another friend becomes closer' or something, Kiyla thought miserably.
