Blonde curls bounced with each step as the small girl walked the lakes edge. Green orbs watched the waters surface, hoping for some sign of the giant squid she'd heard so much about. Beneath her black hogwarts robe, the ravenclaw crest stitched to her right breast, she wore a school uniform, the colors of a violet blue and black decorating her small figure. Clutched to her chest was a book. She held as though worried someone older would steal it from her if she held it any other way. Her emerald eyes searched for a place to relax and read her book, but it seemed there were groups of students occupying every tree! Her gaze landed on a lonely willow, it's shadow unooccupied by any others. she took a seat beneath it and brought her knees to her chest, opening her book for a bit of good reading.

Dana was crying to tears as her cousin in Slytherin told her about how one of their aunts – who was 75 years old – had ran off and gotten married with an 80 year old guy. “I can only wish to be that active myself when I reach that age!” Dana gasped out between laughter as she relied on Kris’ arm to hold her up, “I can’t believe it. Why did they ran away like that? Do where did they ran away like that? Vegas?” Glancing up as she finally gained some control over herself again Dana wiped the tears of laughter form her eyes as she smiled at Kris. For anyone who didn’t know him as well as Dana did – Kris would have looked completely emotionless. But Dana saw the slight narrowing of his eyes and the slight twitch at the lip-corner, telling her that Kris was enjoying the afternoon spent together just as much as Dana did.
“Anyway, got to go to detention,” Kris said glancing at the sun and Dana waved bye to his retreating back, before turning around while shaking her head with laughter. The weather was great – Dana ignored the stares she received – it wasn’t every day you saw a Slytherin talking to someone as friendlily as Kris and Dana did – and looked around for a quieter spot. Seeing a willow that seemed rather abandoned, Dana moved that way, pulling out the small book about quidditch from her pocket and restoring it’s original size with a quick spell. Opening the book and skimming to where she had left off the last time Dana was almost to the willow, before she glanced up and saw someone already there. A first year and a Ravenclaw as the badge on her chest proved. Dana hesitated for a moment before smiling openly at the girl: “Hey, mind if I share the shade of the willow? There is a real crowd out here today. I can sit on the other side of the tree, if you want.”
((Hope you don't mind))

Brooke walked on to the soft grass. Removing her book bag she massaged her neck. She had a lot of books in there.
Finding a plastic tale that was empty she sat down. Removing some parchment and a quill. She began to write.
Why I Back Talked. By: Brooke Davis Ravenclaw
I'm sorry professor but I didn’t agree on the authors opinion on the the subject.
Slipping the unfinished essay in to her bag. She got up and walked over to an almost empty tree. The sun was to hot and she needed the shade.
Sitting down she saw a younger girl. Trying to be nice she smiled and looked at the girl. " Hi, I'm Brooke from Ravenclaw." She said cheerfully.

'Once they had had their Christmas lunch...' suddenly her reading was interupted by the voice of a stranger. She looked up to see a smiling girl staring down at her, obviously waiting for an answer. Kathryn's eyes fell on the Ravenclaw seal and she smiled, "Oh, well, i don't mind at all, sit wherever you like." She pushed a cur behind her ear and held out her hand, "I'm Kathryn Hullens. First year!"

Dana’s smile only broadened as the girl greeted her happily as she took her hand. “It’s always a pleasure to see a fellow Ravenclaw. Dana Coran. Fifth year actually,” Dana pulled a face towards the girl and let herself fall down on the ground. Shifting for a moment, Dana laid down comfortably under the tree and smiled closing her eyes, “I actually came out here to read, but the weather is too good.”
Dana opened one eye and glanced at the book about Quiddithc in French that she had brought with her and grimaced. She most certainly didn’t really want to play the first game against Gryffindor, but there was nothing she could do about it really. Glancing towards the girl curiously Dana craned her neck to see what she was reading. With the sun shining into her eyes Dana couldn’t really see it so she glanced upwards at the first year. She seemed friendly enough. “Mind if I ask what you’re reading? I’m addicted to books and it’s almost a disease – I always have to know what everyone around me are reading,” Dana explained with a small self-ironic smile hovering on her lips.

((hah! that's a line from Order of the Phoenix!))
kathryn smiled at the new girl that had approached her. "hi brooke, i'm Kathryn. Nice to meet you!" She nodded to the comment about the weather and smiled, "yes, it is nice weather." Shje putherfinger in the place she was reading and looked at the cover, "Oh, this book? it's called Charlie Bones and the Phoenix Order. it's pretty good. I've read it nearly a thousand times!"

“Charlie Bones and the Phoenix Order?” Dana pondered about it. She had never even heard of the book before, which was quite shocking, when taking into consideration the fact that she had practically grown up in book-stores, “As ashamed as I am to admit it – never heard of the book.” Dana rolled over, so she was now lying on her stomach and leaned her chin on her hands while placing her elbows firmly on the ground. Bending her legs from the knees and swinging them back-and-forth leisurely Dana continued in an easy-going tone of voice: “I know I’m bothering you and it isn’t nice at all, but is it good? Muggle or wizard book?”
It was annoying when someone disturbed you while reading, like Dana was doing right now. But Dana hoped that the first-year wouldn’t be too annoyed with her. Sighing as she reached a decision that her behavior wasn’t nice anyway Dana smiled again: “Or just tell me to shut up and stop bothering you.”

Kathryn looked up once more and shook her head, "Oh, you're not really bothering me at all. It's a muggle book actually. My father is a muggle writer and he writes the Charlie Bones series." She let out a yawn, "there's 5, and this one's my second favorite." She had many questions to ask an older Hogwarts student but wasn't quite sure how to approach her. "Um...may I ask you some...uh...some questions?"

Beth walked through the large wooden doors of the castle and onto the fresh grass of the outside grounds. She pushed her long brown bangs behind her ears and threw one of her long braids over her thing framed shoulder. She walked toward the small willow where she saw her best friend, Kathryn, sitting with one of the older Ravenclaws. As she got closer she noticed the annoying 3rd year, Brooke, sitting next to her friend. 'What is she doing over there' she thought. Beth began to drag her feet as she got nearer, dreading any confrontation between her and the conceited Brooke. "Hey Kathryn, Hows it going," she said as she approached the girls. She continued her conversation, ignoring the blond sitting nearby "Charlie Bones again, Kat?" She smiled at her friend and quickly sat on the soft grass by the willow. Beth turned to Dana and smiled, "Hey there, hope Im not interupting anything"

Kathryn smiled at her best friend. "you know i love this book! Plus dad wrote it! it reminds me of home." she buried her nose back in the book. minutes later she looked up to see her friend eyeing brooke. she relocated to sit next to her and pushed her hair behind her ears. Putting her face back behind the book. As though reading beth's mind she said, "I know! but i didn't want to be rude!"

Beth gave a small snicker and turned away from her friend so that she could continue to bury herself in her book. She grabbed the small bag laying next to Kathryn and began digging through its objects. "Where are your every flavored beans, Kat?" she asked as she continued to snoop through her stuff. She came to the bottom of the bag and saw the small velvet bag with the gold embroided label. She pulled the ties of the bag and her eyes widened as she examined the contents inside. She began to pull out her favorites, starting with chocolate cake and strawberry sunday. Once she pulled all of her faves she began to pop them in her mouth one by one. She smile as the warmth of the hot cocoa slid down her throat and warmed her tummy. She turned back to Kathryn, reluctant to interupt her reading but decided to anyway. "So Kat, how are your classes going?" She popped the last bean into her mouth and waited for her friend to respond.

kathryn knew she'd find the beans and take the good ones, leaving her with vomit, salmon, grass, and black licorice. Grabbing the bag she was delighted to see several hot cocoas her friend had missed. taking them from the bag she popped them in her mouth and smiled warmly. "My classes? Well, i've gotten a's on all my essays, and i usually can master a jinx, charm, or potion by the sencond try. The only thing i'm really having trouble with is Transfiguration. I can't seem to get my mouse into a full teacup! i always end up with a head, tail, or feet on one side of the cup!" she folded down the corner of the book and put it in her bag. Before closing it, she grabbed 2 chocolate frogs and tossed one to Beth. Opening it, she popped the frog in her mouth and sighed. "dumbledore again!" she said after swallowing. "has to be the 12th card of his i've got!" She stared at him smiling warmly at her before shoving into her bag. she shot an annoyed glance at brooke and then one at beth.

Dana took the info about the book into knowledge and raised a surprised eye-brow as Kathryn wondered if she could ask some questions. “Sure, go ahead. I’ll try to answer them,” Dana answered with a friendly smile watching as one girl joined them. She and Kathryn seemed like friends. The girl who had just joined them was a Ravenclaw as well. A first year. Maybe a second year? Dana answered with a calm smile and observed the conversation between those two as well as the actions analyzing both in her mind.
As Kathryn came up with a wizard card – obviously she had too many of Dumbeldore already – Dana tilted her head and pulled herself to sit upright and held out her hand to the new girl who had came. She was faintly familiar from the common room, but under no circumstances would Dana be able to recall her name. “Nice to meet you. I’m Dana,” Dana said with a friendly smile adoring her face, before she eyed Kathryn, “You get a potion on second try? I hate potions. Never can get them right. I like Snape – he’s great in his subject – but I unfortunately am no good in his subject. Transfiguration I can help you with some time though – that is my specialty right after Charms.” Dana tilted her head curiously looking up at a sharp whistle and shook her head when a couple of her friends pointed towards a volley-ball questioningly, asking if she wanted to play as well.

Beth felt ashamed as the girl Dana held out her hand, how did she not see her? Beth pulled her hand from her pocket and shook the 5th years hand. Beth had seen her around the common room conversing with the older girls of Ravenclaw. "Im Beth," she said, "I think I've seen you around," she continued. As one of her braids fell in front of her she began to play with the ends of it. Beth over heard Dana talking about Professor Snape and couldn't help but giggle. "I hate that man," she commented quietly, "Good thing Im good in his class so he doesn't usually talk to me." She pushed her braid behind her back and began to pick small peaces of the lush green grass from the ground. She placed them together and tried to make duck noises with them like her older sister Leena had showed her when she was younger. When she had no luck she threw the blades to the ground and tried to engage in conversation with Kathryn and Dana. She turned her deep brown eyes to Dana, "Did Professor Flitwick ever give you the essay on engagement of foreign objects?" She watched the girls gorgeous locks of hair blowing in the breeze and waited for her reply.

kathryn smiled and was grateful Dana was willing to answer questions. She racked her brain trying to think of what she wanted to ask, but couldn't find the question in her mind! her face turned a slight tinge of pink and she looked at the ground, playing with the grass nervously. "um...i uh...I forgot what i was going to say!" her face turned a deeper pink now and she kept her gaze to the ground. she managed to mumble a sorry as she dug in her bag for her book. It seemed that it was like her safety blanket. Everytime she was embarassed or unsure of herself she burried her nosein her book and it all seemed to be okay.

Beth looked at her friend Kathryn as she burried herself into her book. Beth grabbed the book from Kathryn and smiled at her reassuringly. "No worries Kat, Im sure you'll remember." She opened the Charlie Bones book that she had just snatched from Kathryn and began to flick through the pages to find some pictures. She had always found it odd that she was a ravenclaw because although she was intelligent, she had never really read a book in her life. She tossed the book aside as she realized that it didn't contain any pictures. She let out a loud sigh and watched the Hogwarts students around her laughing and playing. She loved afternoons such as this, the warmth of the sun beating down on her freckled cheeks as she sat with her best friend in the grounds. She didn't know what she would do if Kathryn hadn't showed up at Hogwarts this year. She connected better with her than any of the other ravenclaws and she often refused to mingle with any other house. Beth picked at the string hanging off of her uniform boots. 'What a day....' she thought.

“Snape is smart, I have to give him that. And he had as brewing form the first lesson – not many other schools do the same. I know Beauxbatons and Durmstrang don’t - have relatives in both,” Dana answered quietly – Dana knew how to keep the distance, but in a way Snape symphatized to her. Dana pondered over the question Beth asked: “Engagement of foreign objects? I think I’ve done something about them. I can check later – I should have every essay I’ve have ever written back home.” Dana misled as she said it – few people kept their essays, but dana did. That was one more point where her Ravenclaw nature showed.
Smiling at Kathryn as she said that she had forgotten her question, Dana turned herself onto her back once again enjoying the sunshine: “No worries. If you ever remember the question just drag me aside when you spot my in the Great Hall or hallways or in the common room. So – any interesting plans for the summer, you two? If you don’t mind me asking?”

Kathryn glared at beth and went to pick up her book. She held it to her chest as though it was a sacred object as she made her way back to her original seat next to Beth. with Dana's question Kat looked up, "Plans? well, i'm sure my father will want to go to America again...he loves the beach over there. Says there're to many nudies in Europe." She chuckled. "but after that we'll probably go to our cottage. My mum gives me quidditch lessons each year. She was on the ravenclaw team ya know!" kat was very proud of her mothers accomplishments while at hogwarts and hoped to follow her footsteps.

"Summer..." Beth sighed thinking of what she might be doing. "Well, I'll most likely hang out with my brother Sean," She said. Beth felt a little sad as she remembered her younger brother back home. She always hated being away from him, they were really close. "Hopefully, he'll get his acceptance letter this summer," she said. She noticed a group of kids playing with some bouncing bulbs and wanted to run over and play. "Hey you all up for a game," she questioned the two.

Talking about quidditch made Dana open her eyes as she eyed Kathryn thoughtfully. The girl liked quidditch and flying? That was good. “No, I didn’t know the fact about your mother. But quidditch? Are you good on a broom? And are you going to try out for the team next year?” Dana asked standing up, “I know a couple of older years want to stop playing to concentrate fully on their NEWTs.” Savannah had left the team because of that dropping the captain duties on Dana’s shoulders, even though it was her first year on the team. At the beginning of this year she couldn’t really even fly! But for some reason none of the team had protested, so Dana had taken those duties in stride. Now that she thought about it quidditch was even rather fun. “And you – thinking about joining the quidditch team as well?” Dana asked Beth with a smile – new players were always welcomed.
Hearing Beth’s question about playing something Dana’s eyes traveled the way the younger girl’s had went and looked at the younger kids playing. “Why not? It would be a shame to just sleep through such a nice day,” Dana answered with a shrug, “What game though? Nothing to get me very bruised or tired though – I have a one-on-one quidditch game planned with my cousin, when he gets out of detention and Slytherins aren’t easy to beat.” Dana sulked over the thought for a moment – Kris would be especially hard to beat, as he was the one who had thought Dana to properly fly and play. “But otherwise I’m in,” Dana concluded with a smile.
