Dana was in detention. Again. The one Snape gave him, but this time she didn’t even mind the detention Filch had decided on much. The weather was really good – for once the sun was shining in a cloudless sky and the weather was warm enough for Dana to ditch her cloak. Besides – washing a window or washing a car the muggle way always had symbolized spring being completely there for Dana. It was weird, but what ever worked, right?
Finishing cleaning the window upon the door leading from the castle to the courtyard, Dana stretched and stepped on the ledge upon the door. It was big and flat enough to walk on without any problems, so Dana just stretched once again. Only this time her leg accidentally kicked the bucket of water next to her. The bucket swinged rather dreadfully and making a racket rolled off the ledge. Hearing a yell coming from under the ledge Dana grimaced and squeezed her fingers shut as she heart a clash as the bucket hit ground.
Groaning silently, Dana warily approached the ledge of the platform she was on and peeked over it. The sun was in a position enough so she couldn’t see who the poor person had been who had been hit by the water, but Dana saw enough to see that he wasn’t supporting greasy long black hair. “Thank heavens you aren’t Snape!” Dana breathed out a sigh of relief, before suinting her eyes. They guy was rather tall and somehow familiar. “Do I know you from somewhere? Anyway – sorry about the water. Wasn’t done on purpose – I swear!” Dana said with a apologizing smile, trying to suppress a chuckle. The view was rather funny from where she was, even though it had been an accident. And not a planned one.

Ed walked along the corrider looking out of the windows at the sunny day outside. This was much to good of a day to be wasted inside. He figured to go outside and do some reading. He carried a small book tucked in his armpit. The book was small, only a few hundred pages, and it was a muggle author who wrote it. The book was fiction and he had read it a couple of times. It was time to read it again.
He reached the door and steped out into the courtyard. No sooner had he steped out that he heard a loud racket above him. He looked up just in time to see a bucket start its fall over a ledge. His eyes went wide in surprise and he let out a surprised yell. He wanted to jump to the side, he had the time and opportunity to do it. His mind screamed to jump, but his body did what it normaly did in situations of great surprise. It froze.
He did manage to get his arms over his face just in time, for in the next moment his entire body was drenched. He slowly began to lower his arms. Looking around he spotted his book and sighed in relief. It had droped when he raised his arms but luckily it had bounced and was at the moment, water free. Another stroke of luck was that the bucket had missed him. Had that thing hit him he would be out cold at this moment.
He looked up at the ledge and saw a girls head poke over it and look down at him. He knew the girl, although not personally. It was Dana, Dana something or other, a fellow Ravenclaw. She was a 5th year if he remembered right, hed seen her a few times in the halls or in the common room. Despite his situation he almost chuckled at her as he pictured this situation with snape instead of him. There was one way to loose ravenclaw a bunch of points.
"Dont worry about it." He called up to her. "This sort of stuff happens a lot." ofcourse, usually on purpose and at the hands of bullies, which sadly, had sometimes consisted of under classmen. "It's a warm day today. Heh, I'm sure it will dry.." He had to wonder how he looked. 6 feet of nothing but skin and bones, now with a drenched robe clinging to his body.

Dana breathed a sigh of relief as the guy didn’t sound very angry. “Yeah, right. You’ll try and get a pneumonia in the mean time,” Dana rolled her eyes at the guy, “Give me a sec, will you?” Dana draw back from the window and glanced at the windows she had been supposed to wash. Deciding they were clean enough, Dana grabbed a thick branch of a near-by tree and climbed down with swiftness that showed that the action wasn’t very rare for Dana. “Sorry once again. I don’t usually get hit by buckets of water,” Dana said with a smile reaching the guy and recognizing him for a fellow Ravenclaw now. An older one for that. “It was an accident really. And not a planned one. Filch had me washing the windows up there, and I accidentally hit the bucket,” Dana explained with a smile as she almost dragged the guy towards a near-by bench and created a fire there, “And now I feel guilty. You should probably know some heating-charm yourself.”
Dana looked at the guy and bit down into her lower lip for a moment: “I’m Dana. Dana Coran. I know you are a Raven as well and a sixth year, but I have an awful memory for names, so you are…?”
A chuckle escaped Dana’s lips and she couldn’t suppress a grin anymore: “Sorry, couldn’t help it. I know it was my fault you are soaking wet, but still… I usually love water-fights even though that before wasn’t done on purpose as I say once again.”
Suddenly getting an idea-flash, Dana turned serious again: “You weren’t hit by the bucket right?”
Ed tried not to move his arms that much, the felling of wet robes moving around on your body wasnt the best feeling. Not to mention it being cold against him. Before he even knew it Dana had joined him on the ground and was dragging him over to a bench. She started a fire and was again appologizing to him. Than She mentioned heating charms and he slaped himself on the forehead. He had forgotten again.
He slaped around his robes for a while, searching the pockets and finally finding his wand. He performed some drying charms on himself and managed to become mostly dry. His hair was still wet and his clothes were just a bit damp now. He took off his glasses and dried them off on a dry spot on his robes. "My names Edward." He said to her. She began to chuckle at him and he smiled back in return. " Yea, bet I do look pretty funny. Dont worry about it, accidents happen." He looked over at the bucket. "Oh no, if I had been hit by that, youd either have a dead body on your hands, or id be asleep at the moment."

Dana laughed as Edward – Ed - slapped his forehead before using the heating charm. Sometimes things like that were forgotten. Dana grinned – something about the boy appealed to her. Ed didn’t seem very sporty and rather shy than out-going but there was something sweet about him. And in their own way the classes were cute. Dana grinned at the guy – he was taller than Dana, even though she was wearing heeled boots and Dana wasn’t very short either. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Edward. Ed. Victim of the water-bucket,” Dana grinned with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes, “Sorry, couldn’t help but adding the last part. As the meeting was fun for me, even hardly so for you. And dead guys are no go, so let’s just be glad the bucket didn’t hit you. That would have been a shame. And I’d be one person less of someone to annoy.”
The last part was stated almost absent-mindedly as Dana squinted her eyes and moved towards the entrance a moment later picking up a leather-bound book form the ground. Luckily this wasn’t wet. Seeing as the book had a couple of hundered pages – something very thick for most none-Ravenclaws, Dana figured it belonged to Edward, so she returned to the boy with the book. “Seems interesting. A muggle author, isn’t it?” Dana skimmed through the pages curiously, before turning the front page towards Edward, “Is it any good? What does it talk about?”
Ed replaced his glasses and smiled at her. "Yes, its very nice to meet you also." He grined at her little 'victom of the water bucket' joke. "Well, I do have to say, something like that dosnt happen often, so I believe I will keep that title with honor." He looked up at the sky. "Well, atleast it was a nice day out, so getting wet wasnt that bad, just wish I could have been warned."
As he was looking up at the sky he noticed Dana get up and leave. "hm?" He looked down and watched her go and noticed her pick up his droped book. She returned with the book in hand and she slowly began to leave through the pages. He smiled as he looked at the book. "Yes, its a muggle author. The book is a fiction story about magic, and dragons and the such. Ofcourse like most muggles the view is a bit twisted than what it is in reality. Plus all muggle authors have different views on these subjects so each book of the same subject are always different."
He sighed as he continued to look at the book. Remembering when he had gotten it. That book, and the rest in that series, held a special place in his heart. It was infact the first muggle authored book he had come to own and buy himself. He smiled as the memory came back to him. "Ah yes, I bought that book going into my second year. In Diagon Alley. I found a small little bookshop there that sold muggle books, I had just finished shopping for my school supplies when I stumbled onto the shop and found this book. Been reading it and its series ever since, infact." He said as a realization hit him. "The next one should be comming out soon, I better remember to place a order for it."

Dana poked her tongue out towards Ed, as he said he would wear the title of ‘victim of the water bucket’ with honor: “But you aren’t getting a medal for it. Or maybe you are. When I find a nice small bucket-shaped figurine from Honeydukes. I’ll keep it in mind. Besides you wouldn’t be victimized if I had warned you. Maybe you should warm people you are coming before going through some door?” Dana added a sly wink and sat down next to the boy handing him the book.
“The book sounds rather interesting. Do you belive in some of the superficions? I’m not asking if you believe ghosts ordragons or something like that exists. Btu do you believe in aliens? Reincarnation? God? Destiny?” Dana asked curiously, hoping Ed didn’t think of her as a too nosy person. These questions were asked out of pure curiosity as if the boy believed in those things or not, “But I didn’t really know muggle books were sold in the Diagon Alley? That store sounds rather interesting though. Was the shop at some shadowed corner of the alley?”
Ed smiled as Dana started to talk about his medal. He lay back on the bench and put his hands behind his head. “Well, find me a medal like that, and I’ll wear it.” His smile grew as she talked about him warning people he was coming. “Sounds like a plan, I’ll start wearing a bell around my neck to show everyone I’m getting closer so that they can secure their water buckets.”
He took the book back from her and looked down at it. “ Yes, its very interesting.” He shrugged slightly as he thought about her question. He wouldn’t say he believed in that stuff exactly, but some of it he was a bit unsure about. He sat up and looked up at the sky. “Well, I wouldn’t say I believe in god. I’ve read the bible and I have to say, if that is true, well, we wont be going to a happy place.” He looked back at her. “As for destiny, sure I believe in that. Everyone has a destiny, a place for them to reach, just not everyone reaches it.”
He looked back down at his book, than back at her. “Yes, it’s a very small and shady shop, at least on the outside. Once your inside though the shop goes underground, I was lucky to have stumbled onto it. Send me an owl during the summer and we can set up the day we go to buy our school books, I’ll show it you.” He sighed, “oh and don’t worry about the day either, I can get to Diagon Alley anytime I want using Floo powder” He chuckled. “In fact, it’s the only way for me to get to Diagon Alley.”
Dana threw her head back and laughed with real mirth as Ed decided to start wearing a bell around his neck. “You can always tell people it’s because you want to warn bullying Sltherin to move out of your way, so they wouldn’t disgrace you with your presence,” Dana stated with a smirk, before realizing what she had done. Shaking her head, Dana looked at Ed while tilting her head side-ways, “Never mind. Some of my best friends are Slyths and I guess some of the attitude stuck on me. It rather fun sometimes though.”
Listening to Ed’s opinion about God and destiny, Dana raised a surprised eye-brow at him. Even in Ravenclaw Ed was the first person Dana met who had actually read through the Bible. “Floo-powder? I thought most people use the entrance from the Leaky Cauldron. But I’ll remember your offer. I have to stop by at Diagon Alley sometime anyway – my grand-parents are thinking about broadening the business here. As for school supplies I usually just see what I need and go pick up the books,” Dana told Ed with a smile, “My grand-parents own their own line of book-stores. Rather useful. Even though I have to help out at them sometimes during summer, but I don’t mind much. As every other Ravenclaw I’m hopelessly addicted to books, so it’s a rather nice job. But I’ll contact you I n the summer. I don’t mind joining you while you buy your books and it would be fun to tour around the Diagon with a friend.”
Dana smiled at Ed – even though he was still a bit wet, his glasses were a bit askew and he seemed like the guy who can forget the real world completely for an interesting book – Dana liked him. He had a nice personality or so it seemed. Ed would be perfect for the role of a younger brother or a bit hopeless older brother for Dana. Then again – he might turn out to be a friend and a good one at that, so Dana didn’t let herself be bothered and just grinned at the guy.

Surprisingly he smiled at her as she spoke of the bell warning off slytherin bullies. Unfortunatly for him, they didnt seem to mind disgracing themselves with his presence at all. It was a sad day when even a 3rd year Slytherin finds Ed a easy target. He arched an eyebrow at her. "Some of your friends are slytherin? I thought they were a unbefriendable(sp?) bunch." He chuckled softly. "Well, perhaps I need to go in and befriend me a nice big slytherin, that way I have a bodyguard." He chuckle grew into a good natured laugh.
Once done he looked back down at her. He realized how funny the Floo powder must sound. Most wizards and witches would use the leaky couldron entrance, but Ed had no transportation to the leaky couldron. His parents even refused to take him there for his school supplies. Sometimes he was amazed that they even took him to Kings Cross Station. "Yes, I have to use Floo powder, I have no other way to get to the Leaky Couldron. My parents refuse to take me anywhere..." He suddenly realized what he was doing and broke off that line of thought. He didnt wanna just spew his life story out at her. He leaned back, thinking to the last time he had used that entrance. It had been when he was leaving for his first year at Hogwarts. He couldnt even remember which bricks to tap to get in now.
"Must be nice, to have connections like that. Need a book, just go to grandma." He chuckled to show that he wasnt being spitefull. "Well, I'll be looking out for your owl, just, be sure to adress it to me, and not the summers name, or else the owl will bring it straight to my father, and well, if he gets it, theres a good chance I will never see it." As he looked at her he noticed that this was one of the easiest conversations he had ever had, with anyone. He chuckled as he thought back to his usual shy and ackward self. He had even casual given her permission to send him an owl.
Dana was a great girl. Ed liked her. Around her he didnt feel shy and ackward, he could talk with her so care free. "Hmm?" He glanced down at his glasses and noticed they were a bit askew. "dag nabit." He looked at them sort of crosseyed and taped them till they were straight, than looked at her. "Sorry bout that. And yes, I will be looking foreward to your owl." He smiled.

“SLyherins? Nah, they just take some time to get used to. Not unfriendly, just arrogant sometimes. They are surprisingly like GRyfifndors in many ways actually. Both SLytherins and GRyffindors fight for what they believe, are resourceful. Slytherins just don’t show their feelings and make sure they don’t get hurt no matter what,” Dana stated thoughtfully staring off into space for a moment, before getting the twinkle back into her eye as she looked at Ed and spread her arms, “Do I look mean and bully-like to you? The Sorting Hat gave a second of thought on the idea of sending me to Slytherin. Have a cousin there though. Even though he’s almost like a brother from time to time.”
Dana tilted her head curiously as Ed said that her parents wouldn’t take him anywhere. It was almost weird for Dana to hear that, considering how close her own family was, with her grand-parents being surprisingly liberate. Dana didn’t push it though, and just grinned happily: “Yes, it’s awesome. Need a book and I go to one of their stores and get one. 5 stores for wizards and witches, 1 for muggles. And I’ll make sure I’ll send the owl to you. Why wouldn’t you see it if it got sent to your father though? That kind of problems haven’t risen in front of me yet – that my owl doesn’t reach the person it’s sent to. Sorry, if I sound too curious or meddle in things that aren’t my problem, it just came as a bit of surprise.”
Dana shrugged and smiled at Ed. It really was surprising to her. Usually Dana was a welcomed person. Even pure-bloods didn’t mind her coming to stop by for a visit as her grand-parents were rather influential and wealthy.

He nodded at her. "Yes, they are very similar. Only that Slytherins will do anything to achieve their goals, even if someone gets hurt, whereas Gryffindors tend to want to achieve their goals, but not hurt others." He looked at her for a minuete in silence, than shook his head. "Nah, you dont look like a bully, although, you do look like you could be a darn good one if you set your mind to it." He fell quiet again. "Well, do you have a strong desire to achive your goals? Or to proove yourself for anything?"
He laughed slightly at the mention of his father. "Well, my parents were around when Voldemort was at the pinnacle of his power. During that time, Slytherins didnt like people from other houses, at all." He gave a small sigh. "And if you havent guessed it by now. I'm the only one in my family, and I mean our entire generation, not to be sorted into Slytherin. It was a big shock for my family and they basicly broke off all contact with me. Im allowed to stay in the house and I get rides to and from Kings Cross Station, but thats about it. With everything else im on my own."
He looked up at her and smiled. "But its nothing to worry about, just gotta finish this year, and next year and than I can graduate." His eyes suddenly flashed as if he got an idea. "Who knows, I might just pass my disaperate tests this summer and be able to leave the house more often."

Dana laughed ad Ed’s words with real mirth: “I could make a good bully if I wanted to? I think I‘m going to take that as a compliment. As for the other questions. Yes, I do want to succeed, when I start something. I want to achive my goals – I don’t mind asking help and advice, when I need it, but there are some goals I want to achieve.”
Listening to Ed’s words, Dana shrugged: “Pure-bloods eh? Well, I could just make sure to use the writing-paper of my grand-parents, one of their personal owls or mention them. They are pretty famous and powerful, so I’m welcomed in most pure-blooded families. My grand-mother even received a proposal to marry me off to some Bulgarian to make sure the blood-line continues and is strong. But I usually thought that Slytherins minded Ravenclaws less than other houses. All my ancestors have been in either RAvenclaw or Slytherin. But I guess your parents are real fanatics then.”
Dana’s eyes glinted with fascination: “Apparation? That sounds awesome? Do you already know when and how you are going to study? Or do you have to study yourself and just show up for the test? How does the system work?”
"Well, most likely its your strong desire to want to succeed that made the sorting hat think about slytherin for you."
He almost chuckled at her comment about the letter. "Its not a question of are you are welcome. Its the question of am I welcome. My house has four main halls in it. My family acts like one of those halls doesnt even exist because, well, thats where my room is." He gave a small sort of chuckle. "I've dubbed it the Invisible Hall. Cause my family acts as if its invisible."
He shrugged absently. "I'm already studieng. As for the test I hear there is a place down in Hogsmeade that will let you take the test. I'm gonna go and look for it and take my test."

Dana frowned as Ed talked about his family and house: “No offence, but your family is a bunch of idiots. But it’s their loss. You can hardly find a quiet place at my place – the attic is a bit quieter though. I sometimes go to the attic to shoot pool but others don’t really like the game, so I go there when I want to cool down or just enjoy some peace and quiet for a change.”
Dana listened how Ed talked about Apparation curiously, already bubbling with questions: “How do you study it already? How complicated it is – I stil lahve a year before I start studying and can get the licence, so I’m curious. You can’t practice it at Hgowarts? Isn’t randomly practicing illegal anyway? When are you taking the test, do you know?”
Ed chuckled at her as she called his family idiots. "Yes, they are. It was even worse last summer because my oldest sister finally reached the right age and was allowed to use magic outside of school. Now that I have reached the correct age I can finaly defend myself against her." He sighed a littel. "To bad shes pretty good at duelling whereas. I suck."
"Well, to tell you the truth Ive been studieng apparation for the past three years now. Ive been reading books on it mostly. I cant practice it unless I have direct permission from the ministry, and thats a lot of hassle. Have to do a ton of paperwork for just one day of practice. Its pretty complicated when your just starting out, a lot of stuff to remember. But once you try it once or twice and you get a feel for it, than its not as complicated anymore." His mind scrambled as he tried to keep all her questions straight since she didnt seem to be breaking inbetween questions. " Yea, practicing at Hogwarts is impossible, Hogwarts has some kind of charm on it that dosnt allow apperating. As for taking the test, I'm planning on taking it at Hogsmeade during the next trip, I've I can find the building that is."

“You suck at dueling? Don’t say that – as Ravenclaw you are bound to know tons of spells and jinxes and hexes,” Dana counted immediately. It was true – there wasn’t a Ravenclaw that didn’t like to read and read practically everything. Besides most Ravenclaws had awesome memories. “Besides you can always practice at school. At the dueling class-room perhaps? Hardy is fair. I had a duel there just lately – with Goyle. I lost,” Dana still cringed at the idea a little, but went on, “But it was awesome practice for my O.W.L.s. So on the whole it was a win-win situation for me. I need to practice spells for real sometimes and what better way to train for my DADA O.W.L.?”
Dana listened to Ed’s explanation about apparition carefully. It was an interesting topic – Dana would have to start studying for it soon as well. After the O.W.L.s really, but they weren’t that far away anymore. “Lucky me – I can probably get a free pass to practice in summers – both my grand-parents have rather high positions in the Ministry at home in France, so I might be saved from some of the byrocracy. Have you tried Apparating already though? How did it feel? Did you splint yourself or not? Sorry, if I’m too nosy, but I’m just really-really curious. When is the next Hogsmeade trip anyway? I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you then.”
He laughed. "Well, its not my memory or skill at casting the charms thats the problem. I can cast most charms and jinxes pretty well. Its the thinking on my feet during a duel that I cant do." Well, that was sort of a half lie. He could do most charms, and do them well. When it came to jinxes and hexes, he was a bit lacking in that area. He suddenly groaned. Her mention of the O.W.Ls made him think of the N.E.W.Ts he was going to have to take next year. "Oh great. You just reminded me of the N.E.W.Ts I have to take next year. I had nearly forgotton about those. I should have most of the essay and question tests down."
He brought his mind back to apperating. "Well, all I can tell you is get all the passes you can, it takes a lot of practice to get it down." He smiled and laughed at a few of his apperations. "Oh yes, I've apperated before. Twice I landed on my head, once I ended up on the roof of my house, once I ended up in my sisters room, yea that experiance sucked, but I have four successful apperations under my belt." He thought for a moment. "I'm not sure, although were supposed to have one soon. Thanks, I'll need your support."

“I think I’ll get enough passes. My grand-parents both work at the Ministry in France, and can probably get me more passes than most people think. I’m not saying that Slytherins are right and that they don’t believe in some weird things from time to time, but I have to agree with their point that an old family-name and wealth does make life easier and more comfortable,” Dana muttered to herself almost as much as to Ed, “Why was the appearing at your sisters room most horrifying?”
“I have to disagree with you myself. Thinking on my feet is one of my specialties. I’ll probably do better at practical O.W.L.s then theory. If I plan something, then it seems almost bound to go wrong. But if I just show up and take things at stride, then I seem to be lucky,” Dana shrugged with a grin, “I might be a rather good diplomat one day, if I was going to pick up some career at a Ministry of Magic.”
Dana looked at Ed curiously: “Sorry, if I’m nosy, but I’m curious. You must have given some thought to what you want to become one day or what kind of a career you are going to pursue? Mind sharing your thoughts?”
He nodded at her. “Good, like I said, the more the better. The more you practice the easier and simpler it will become.” He looked back up at the sky as he recalled the memory. “Well, first off it was my older sisters room, and whereas my parents act like I’m not there, she takes the liberty of kicking me out of that wing of the house. Unless I’m in my hall, no one travels there. So now, if she simply runs me out of even the kitchen, imagine how enraged she was when I suddenly appeared in her room. Luckily I appeared right beside the door and I managed to duck under the first spell she launched at me.”
“Well, I can think on my feet I guess, when it comes to questions and problem solving. But during moment where it requires immediate action, my body tends to freeze up. As you saw earlier.” He said motioning at the bucket. He laughed slightly. “Us Ravenclaws are naturally curious. Well, so far my skills lie in books, paperwork. Basically scholar work, historian work. So I think I can get a job somewhere in the ministry that requires something like that. Or I can just get a desk job at one of the branches and do paperwork. I’m good at that.” He said with a slight grin.
