Kris scowled darkly flinging the door to the student lounge open with such force that it collided with the wall with a loud bang. Most people in the student lounge glanced up to reprimand Kris, but one deadly glare silenced all complaints before they even began and Kris swept to an armchair directly facing the fire. Two younger students, quickly scrambled out of his way as Kris brushed past threateningly.
Kris sat down in the armchair with his back to the most of the fire-place although he kept an eye on the rest of the students thanks to the mirror image of them on the window, Kris saw from the corner of his eyes. Kris stared into the fire angrily and scowled again. It had been an absolutely lousy day and right now he was rather furious. Kris had been out in a clearing near the edge of the Forbidden Forest where he had had a serious training with his wand as well as physical training. It had relieved his horrendous mood, but not to the extent of calming him completely.
There was a small crash in the back of the room, making Kris scowl when a small ball of fur appeared next to his leg. Kris watched the kitten almost curiously watching as it tried to climb up his leg. Kris stretched his leg out and hopping onto it the kitten run to Kris’s lap, with an ink-stain on it, which covered his both back legs, back and the front first paw. The kitten made a soft sound and reached up to lick Kris’s left hand that was resting on the armrest of the armchair he was sitting in. Kris moved his hand to pet the kitten slowly, petting it’s soft fur with his long fingers that instinctively knew where and how to scratch, making the kitten purr contently as it curled up in his lap. Kris had always had a way with animals to the extent that it made professional beast-trainers watch in awe. It had once even attracted a dragon, when Kris had paid to stay at a dragon-tamers camp for a month to watch the work there. Kris didn’t know what attracted the animals to him, even when he was in the worst mood possible – sometimes the animals seemed to come most of all when he was in the worst mood actually – but something did.
“Got into some trouble, precious?” Kris murmured softly to the kitten, pulling out his wand and cleaning the ink, which covered most of the animal’s body away. Lowering both of his hands to the kitten, Kris was unknotting its fur as the kitten continued to purr under his hands. Seeing someone come towards him Kris looked up at the person who stopped near the armchair and eyed the kitten warily, before opening her mouth after gulping nervously under Kris’s cold stare, as he continued to unknot the kitten’s fur, the gentleness of his hands crashing with the coldness in his eyes.

Elina had been in the lounge, her eyes getting rather tired from reading, so she had decided on working on the essay for Charms that wasn't due until Friday. She sighed, pushed aside her book, and went through her bookbag, looking for some parchment and an ink pot with a quill. When she resurfaced, she had all her materials in her hand and was ready for some writing. She curled her feet under her, and brought out her wand. Waved it, and a large book appeared on her lap, something hard to write on. She opened the ink pot, placed it on the floor near her and dipped her quill in, ready to write.
"Meoooow!" Ceiuci mewed beside her. Elina looked down at her kitten, and shook her head in slight disappointment in the cat. When she had bought it she hadn't meant it to be so troublesome, but life was unpredictable at times and Elina understood that completely. The cat mewed again and Elina looked down once more. It had ink all over it, and the ink pot was tipped over. Elina placed her essay down and swung her legs over the edge of the couch, so she could sit up right and tried to grab the kitten, but she ran away.
"Ceiuci..." Elina whined quietly as she chased after the kitten. Her brown hair stuck to her lip gloss, and she had to pull it away as she looked under various tables and such to see if she could spot the white kitten. No such luck. She put her hands on her hips and surveyed the room, and then she thought she had seen a white fluff of fur on someone's lap. Elina sighed, tucked some of her hair behind her ears, and walked over to the chair.
"Um," She started, when the boy looked at her. She felt fear surge through her. But, she quickly shook it off and tried to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace, "Can I have Ceiuci back please, my kitten." Elina finished as she pointed at the white furball in his lap. She just stood there and blinked, waiting for his reaction. Wondering what he would say...though she was sure she would get Ceiuci back sooner or later.

Post by Mia on Feb 2, 2005 22:30:39 GMT
Mia sat in the foot of the Gryffindor common room. Her diary lay open on her laid. The common room fire danced in front of her and sending warm flares her way. Closing her eyes as her hand asked she took it all in. Her stomach pushed in as she took a deep breath and she exhaled with a smile on her face. She had just been thinking about her mother and it always brought tears into the seven-teen year olds eyes. Wiping her eyes with the tips of her sleeve she wiped away a tear that almost ran down her check. Taking another deep breath she continued her writing. It was always like Mia to write than do home work. She loved to write short stories about horses, and some poems. She also wrote journal entries for the day just to express her thoughts. Clicking the end of her pen she continued to write. The fire still made the crackling sound that could sooth anyone soul.
2/3/05 Dear Journal,
It’s like nothing can go right in my life right now. One thing happens and bam the next minute I start crying. Grandpa says I am more like her than Lou. But Lou like father and I haven’t seen him in a while. He is living in Florida with her own wife and children. I do not understand this and wish that mom could still be here today. But we were doing it for a right cause right? Sprit was in such bad shape and he had been in that barn for weeks and terrified to death. I still remember the strong stallion rearing up into the air and than landing on all fours but yet to do it again. You could see the whites of his eyes and he bucked out everywhere. I almost got hit! But good thing my mom knows what to do huh? But I still don’t get why it happen. Its like life wants me to suffer. Well all I hear from is "Just keep on swimming...... Ha-ha Lou told me that tons of times but how can I continue to swim. It seems like there are sharks in the pool ready to bite me. I do not understand my life at the moment. Well I am going to head to the lounge than its supper for me. Toddles, Mia
As Mia finished she moved her head so her brown hair will stay out of her face. Pulling up the tops of her sleeve she rolled them back all the way and grabbed her knees. Looking around the common room she saw no one there. It was like a desert with no living life. Sighing she looked back into the fire. It had reflected in her eyes making her look like she came from some place else. Turning away from it she turned towards the big grand father clock that was up just before the common room. It was late in the after noon and classes had just let out. Mia loved to go to classes and would never skip one ever. Most people think she is a Ravenclaw but really she is a Gryffindor. The real question that was planted in Mia's head was Why Gryffindor? She was just as loyal as Hufflepuffs, smart as witty Ravenclaws, and just a tiny bit sly like Slytherin. Mia was brave she wasn’t a lion.
Tucking her brown hair behind her ears she stood up from the ground. Her muscles made noise as she stretched into the air. Yawning she swung her shoulder bag on her shoulder and left the common room. Walking down the long corridors of the castle she saw it jump with excitement. Many little children were running and talking and just hanging out. Mia wished she could do that but she didn’t have a friend. May be it was her shyness but Mia wasn’t shy at all. She is very talktive and loves to have fun. Smiling at the little kids she had realized this was her last year at Hogwarts. The thought never came to mind until now. Panic seemed to rush through her as she tired to think of her future. Many people planned this out before their seventh year but Mia just had to put it off until the last minute.
Wiping a band of sweat that gathered up on her fore head she turned the corner. The sounds of her shoes made noise and she liked the noise. It sounded like hooves chattering up the roads near her farm. Smiling as she remembered Heartland. A great horse farm where Mia and Ty helped out with damaged horses that seem to not trust many people. Tucking hair behind her ear she opened the door to the lounge. Looking around she noticed it was full of excitement. This made Mia happy as she took a seat on the couch next to a girl. Turning her head she smiled at her. "Hello there. My names Maria Fleming but just call me Mia. Who are you? I never have seen you around before. Maybe because your in a different house as me. Probably so but that’s alright I can make friends with lots of people not even in my house. Oi there I go again talking you can stop me any time now." Mia said smiling and turning towards the boy who had a pretty white cat in his lap. A warm smile crept across her face as she stood up and petted the kitty. "Awe he is so cute? Who is it? I own an owl not a cat. But at home I have tons of horses and my other friend Sorya and I go riding every single day in the summer." Mia said and sat back down crossing her legs.

Kris raised an eye-brow at the girl, who asked the kitten back. Ceiuci. An interesting name, but rather nice to the ears, Kris decided. Before Kris could reply to her one more girl joined them, this one a seventh year and a Gryffindor. She started talking and stood up petting Ceiuci in Kris’s lap for a moment, before she sat down again.
“Ceiuci. You should really be more careful at how you treat your kitten. Pouring ink all over them is hardly good for the kitten. And his fur is still tangled because of it,” Kris’s answer was cutting as he soothed Ceiuci’s fur. The kitten purred again and stretched, standing up and climbing the front of Kris’s shirt with the help of his claws until it reached his shoulder and softly licked Kris’s jaw for a moment, before meowing silently and settling down to start cleaning itself.
Kris’s eyes landed on Ceiuci’s owner once again and he tilted his head: “You have ink on your leg as well, as a matter of fact. It will ruin your clothes if you don’t get it out quickly.”
Kris moved his eyes to Maria – Mia. Yep, she was definitely a Gryffindor. “I guess he is nice, but he isn’t mine really,” Kris raised an eye-brow towards Mia, “If you ride that often, then do you ride the thestrals while at school? Haven’t seen any other horses or animals close to horses here who would let someone ride them.”
Rayne looked at her watch. She realized with a start that she had been outside for at least two hours. No wonder my hands are going numb. She thought trudging up to the castle. She had been working off some frustration by walking around in the freezing cold.
Walking inside she had no idea where to go. None of her friends could be found and she had no more homework so the common room was out. She decided to go to the Student Lounge. She'd met some interesting people there before plus it had a nice warm fire.
Walking into the Student Lounge she noticed a group of people sitting by the fire. The boy she recognized as Kris. He was someone she'd met once before the others she'd never met. She debated leaving because they were all older then her by at least four years. Her stinging hands persuaded her to do other wise. Walking up to the three she introduced herself.
"Hi I'm Rayne. Nice kitten." She said indicating to the kitten on Kris' lap.

“Hello, Rayne,” Kris greeted turning his head to send a half-grin at the girl, “You look half-frozen.” Kris inclined towards an other armchair near the fire with his head. He rather liked the spark of her. “Speaking of the kitten, he’s not mine,” Kris added with a smirk turning his head and lifting Ceiuci’s head so they were staring at each other for a moment. “Down,” Kris’s voice held a strong command and the white ball of fur meowed starting at Kris for one more moment. Ceiuci gave his paw one more lick, before patting Kris’s cheek softly with his paw, before he jumped down on his lap once again and ran down his leg in the same way he had climbed up in the first place.
Rubbing himself against Kris’s leg once more, before she walked to the girl he belonged to and curled up next to her. “This is Mia – Gryffindor as you. You know me and I don’t have a clue what Ceiuci’s owner’s name is, I jut know she’s a Ravenclaw. And they already heard that you are Rayne,” Kris made a round of introductions calmly looking at Rayne once again, “You were out I presume. I didn’t lie if I said you looked half-frozen. I rather like the weather today though. Cold enough to keep you sharp.”
Rayne sat down in the armchair that Kris indicated extremely grateful to be warm again. Rayne looked at him frowning as he made the introductions and told the cat to get down. He was unlike anyone else she'd ever met. For one thing he was extremely perceptive noticing right away that she'd been outside. Although her windburned cheeks had probably given her away on that one still he was an extremely hard person to figure out. Realizing she'd probably been staring Rayne snapped out of her thoughts and turned to look at the kitten.
"I was out and it is freezing. I think I'm a little more then half frozen. I'll let you know when I can feel my hands again." Rayne said smiling to herself.

Kris smiled at Rayne calmly: “Madam Pomfrey has a potion for frost-bite, if it’s bad enough. I just cam from outside myself, but I didn’t freeze. The again I was practicing martial arts as well as spell-casting so I had about a dozen magical fires around the clearing if not more.”
Kris smiled and leaned back in the arm-chair relaxing a little: “I have to admit I like the cold though. Italy – where I live – can get a bit too warm for my taste in summer.”
Kris glanced up at the clock and configured 3 cups of hot chocolate and one cup of cappuccino for himself. All the drinks appeared on the table where all four could reach them and Kris nodded towards them as well as the different cookies and fruits that had appeared with them. The house-elves really did know Kris well enough already to know what he liked.
“I can assure you the drinks aren’t poisoned, nor is the cookies. But the warm drink might be good for you,” Kris said with a small grin leaning forward and picking up the cappuccino and a chocolate-chip cookie.

Rayne smiled. "No it's not as bad as frostbite. I've endured worse cold for longer before and I've yet to get frostbite." She said blowing on her now stinging hands. While she was glad she was getting the feeling back into her hands she really hated the pain that accompanied it.
Rayne thought about Italy when Kris mentioned living there. She'd only been there once and that was when her brother traveled there for his job. Unfortunately she hated Italy. It was a beautiful place and she'd once wished she could live there but that was before the trouble started because that sure was the place where the trouble started. Shaking her head Rayne pushed that trip down memory lane to the back of her head. She really didn't want to go there. She smiled gratefully when she noticed that Kris had caused three cups of Hot Cocoa appear before them as well as a cappucino for himself.
She had grabbed one and was about to take a sip when Kris said that they were not poisoned. She frowned at him. Why would he say that none of them had even mentioned poison and she sure hadn't thought of it until he'd just mentioned it. Figuring he'd probably just been trying to be funny or something Rayne took a sip. The cold had won over and she needed something warm. Plus even if it is poisoned at least I'll get out of classes the next day. She thought to herself smiling.

Kris glanced towards the two older girls, wondering if they would pick up cups as well. Rayne had probably taken the comment about poison as weird, but that is what you get for a paranoid father. Kris had been taught to look for danger everywhere. His father had even gone that far as to starting to feed very small units of poison to Kris – barely noticeable at first, but slowly over months and years the portion had grown, even though it was still small. The reason was to get Kris’s body used to that special poison, so it wouldn’t affect him much, if he ever would have the bad fortune of having to eatit.
A lot of pure-blooded families still held onto old traditions such as these from time to time and for Kris’s family the tradition probably started in mediaeval times already, when the Borghes’s ruled in Rome. “The grounds around here are marvelous for walking and training though. And the grounds are huge, which is also a plus. I had to use a pointing spell rather often during the first times I wandered around here,” Kris said finishing his cookie and picking up a cherry, slowly eating it while he was looking into the fire.

Rayne glanced around the student lounge letting her mind wander as she sipped her cocoa. She watched a couple of students from another house play wizards chess. She was reminded of a time when she and her brother used to play for hours on end. It was regular chess of course for he hadn't told her anything about the wizarding world until she'd gotten her letter. That was the time Rayne referred to as B.L Before Leona. Leona the thought of her brought a scowl to her face. Although she was glad that the girl she'd met in the courtyard Mary was going to help her get rid of that cheating wench. Maybe then her brother would see that Rayne had been telling the truth all along.
Rayne was startled out of her thoughts when Kris mentioned the grounds being big. "Yeah. The grounds here are big. I'm lucky though for one thing my older brother went here and after I got my letter he pretty much told me where everything would be. Plus I have a pretty good sense of direction." Rayne said taking another sip of cocoa.
"That reminds me do you know a girl named Mary I think her last name is Evans. She mentioned you when I met her once."

“Mary Evans? Yeah, I know her,” Kris shook his head with a smile, he didn’t even bother to hide, “She’s somewhat of a younger sister. Except she has the annoying habit of calling my Krissy Bear and jumping on my back when we meet.”
Kris smiled at the thought: “I really have to have one more long talk about her, what teddy bears really look like. Although she always states that I’m the little worn and rough teddy bear, which is the best to have.”
Kris’s eyes laughed towards Rayne, but the mirth wasn’t turned against her, it was rather laughter that would call for the other to laugh as well: “She is a good girl, though. And a good friend. Do you mind me asking where you met her? You don’t have to if you don’t want, I was just curious. Or in what context she mentioned me.”
"If it makes you feel any better I have no idea where she'd get that you look like a teddy bear. You look anything but." Rayne said setting the cocoa down with a smile.
"And I don't mind your asking. I met her when I was in the courtyard. I accidentally knocked her down because I was trying to catch snowflakes with my eyes closed. Then we were talking and we were guy bashing some and I mentioned what an arse my brother was being. That's where you came in. She asked if I'd met you and said that you were like a big brother to her and that you'd never take any other girls word over hers or something like that. Then we were plotting ways to ruin my brothers wedding."

“Thank you. It really is a relief to hear that I’m not looking like a teddy bear, since Dana fell in love with the nickname as well,” Kris laughed and closed his eyes after Rayne finished explaining how she and Mary had met and leaned his elbows on his knees.
“You know, I’m not even sure why I’m offering it, but then again – if it would fit your plan Mary would enroll me anyway,” Kris looked at Rayne from between his fingers, “I won’t even ask why you want to ruin your borhter’s marriage, but as Mary said – if she is in for it, then you can count with me as well, should the need arise.”
Kris sighed and leaned back in his arm-chair again before smirking at Rayne: “At least for transportation, should you need it. I doubt either of you can drive a muggle car and either of you are the age to drive. So when you need to move around quickly and without explaining to your brother why, then I might come handy. And it’s cheaper than getting a taxi.”
Rayne looked at Kris in shock. He had just offered to help it seemed everyone she told was willing to help. This made Rayne grin. "Thanks I'm sure we'll need it. Since you offered I'm going to tell you the reason why anyway or the shortened version of it anyway." Rayne said not really wanting to tell the whole version of it as it involved most of her lifes story.
"Basically my brother, who I live with now, is getting married to his wench of a girlfriend. His girlfriend is a real character. She calls me names and is generally mean to me and my brother lets her. That's not the reason why though. I could live with that if I thought she actually likes my brother but she doesn't. She just wants him because he's got money. I even caught her cheating on him with his friend and he doesn't believe me. I even had a picture of it but he says that they were just going as friends. He totally disregarded the fact that I saw them making out. He just called me a liar and told me to bugger off." Rayne said angrily.
"Anyway I figure once the wedding is wrecked and we drive Leona out of the picture he'll see how wrong he was and apologize. That or he'll blame me and send me away to live with my mother again. Either way he'll be better off though." Rayne says shrugging.

Kris listened to Rayne’s story and let it sink in slowly, although the flashes of thoughts in his head didn’t show on his face. “No offence, but if you brother doesn’t clear out things with a girl, who is supposed to be faithful to him, then he’s a fool,” Kris drawled out lazily half-closing his eyes, covering his sharply looking eyes, although the piercing gaze didn’t falter. It was just shielded from anyone who wasn’t looking very closely and very curiously or knew Kris very well.
“So how are you planning to get Leona out of the picture. Make sure your brother catches her red-handed? With some random guy that will be hard to pull off. With some spells from my side it might work though – I’ll be old enough to cast spells outside the school without any worries in about a week. Or do you have some special plan worked out already?”
Saying this Kris glanced at the other two girls before raising an eye-brow towards Rayne, with a small tilt of his head, to make sure Rayne hadn’t forgotten the other two there, in case she didn’t want everyone to know about her brother and her plans.

Rayne sighed "I know I know he is a fool and he's getting hurt and doesn't know it." She said putting her face in her hands. Kris was saying what she'd been thinking for ages ever since she'd gotten that drated owl. Him saying it almost made her feel worse. It was one thing to think something and something entirely different to hear it from someone else. She wanted to cry but she wouldn't let herself. She never let herself cry in front of people it made her seem weak and she didn't like appearing so in front of people.
Rayne raised her head off her hands after she was sure she had herself under control and looked back at Kris. "No we don't have anything planned out yet." She said rather frustrated. "Nothing seems good enough and I doubt him seeing her with some other guy will work. She'll just fabricate some story about going out as friends and the guy was fresh with her. And my stupid brother will believe her because Leona's word is law." She said rather bitterly.
Rayne noticed that Kris seemed to be telling her that the other two girls were there. She nodded as if saying I know. She didn't care if they knew as far as she was concerned the more people on her side the better. Who knew maybe they'd agree to help her as well.

“Then we just have to make sure the guy makes sure that he speaks the truth and proves Leona’s words wrong,” Kris added with a light nod to Rayne’s indication that she remembered the other two girls.
Kris bowed forward and pulled Rayne’s chin up a bit so they looked straight into each-others eyes: “Ever heard of Veritaserum? It’s a truth potion that can’t be over-come. At least no one knows when it has been over-come, so the person who had drank it told a lie. It is only possible if one has time to reason things to some-what truth in his mind, so he himself believes it. I could probably get some from my legal guardians in France, as I don’t really have a clue how to brew it right now. And it is a very complex potion. Worthy of a potion master like Snape.”
Kris leaned back in his chair and added a hint of comfort into his tone: “If there is a way, then we’ll find it.”
Rayne was about to say that almost nothing could prove Leona's word wrong in her brothers eyes when Kris mentioned Veritaserum. She'd read about that potion in a book she'd taken from her brothers house before she left for Hogwarts. It was supposed to be the strongest truth potion ever. Maybe they could get Leona to drink some and tell her brother everything.
"I'm not kidding when I say Leona's word is law with my brother. What she says goes that's why I had planned on driving her stark raving mad. This Veritaserum might work better though if we can get it. If she takes it then she'll have to tell him everything that she's been cheating and that she doesn't really love him. Then it could work." Rayne said slowly not really looking at anything. She was off in her own world trying to calculate through everything. Analyzing almost every outcome to make sure it would work.
Looking up she seemed to be satisfied with her conclusion. "That could actually work. The only thing now is to see if you can get ahold of any."

Kris grimaced lightly: “I’ll ask Dana to send an owl to Meredith for a small portion. Meredith Graas is her grand-mother and wouldn’t say no to her. Especially since she sometimes thinks Dana is more reliable than I am and that she should keep me on line. And Dana won’t say no to me when I ask her, especially on this matter. And if Mary’s in it as well, then the faster Dana will send off the letter.”
Kris leaned picked up one more cherry and ate it calmly, silently thinking how he would lay the situation in front of Dana, to get her to cooperate. It wouldn’t be too hard though, Kris mused in his head.
