Post by Professor Filius Flitwick on Jan 7, 2008 17:34:01 GMT
Having just eaten his lunch, Flitwick walked into his classroom, and searched for the box he needed for his next class. He was teaching his young students next, and he needed his box of stones and pebbles for the lesson. It didn't take him long to see that they were at the top of one of his many piles around the room...he thought that he could do with someone to help him tidy up the place...it was a safety hazard, if nothing else. Nevertheless, he was rather fond of the room, and liked it as it was. His thoughts returning to the box of pebbles and stones-probably not the most interesting of objects but probably the most relevant to the lesson-he took out his wand and brought the box down to his desk using one of the most useful charms of all, "wingardium leviosa".
He then put a stone at each place, leaving only a few in the box. The stones were of varying shapes, sizes, colours and textures. Some were grey, some were orange, some were small, some were large, some were smooth and some were rough. He knew that the odd student would complain about the stone they had, but that wasn't relevant to the exercise. If they could use the charm on one stone, they could use it on any. He wrote on the board: CHARMS: 1st - 3rd years Todays Lesson: Light spells. Lumos Recap and Collucos. Do NOT play with the stones until we get to that part of the lesson! Thank you.
He sat at his desk, and looked at his watch. He still had a few minutes left before the class was due to start, but it wasn't long before the first students started to arrive.Within 10 minutes the class was quite full, and he decided to begin the lesson, with a recap of Lumos, whch they had covered in the previous term a couple of weeks before they finished. It was useful for them to know that spell, seeing as it was getting dark, and hence being able to have a light at the end of their wands turned out to be very useful.
"Right, class. As you can see from what I've written on the board, today we're going to go over Lumos again to make sure the whole class is comfortable with casting that charm, and if we're all settled with that, then we'll be moving on to Collucos, which I'll tell you about later on. So, does anyone want to tell me what Lumos does, and show me, and the whole class, how it's done? I'm sure memories are slightly hazy after the winter break, but I'm sure some of you at least remember how it's done!" Several hands shot up around the room, and Flitwick thought about who to choose to show the class.

Timothy was walkign to class... Charms. Timothy often liked lthis class is was fun...fun to see how the so called "smart" kids raised their hands before the proffesor even got done talking. They thought they were all cool because they knew everything. Timothy could hardly remember what they had talked about before the christmas break....Timothy knew it had to do with Lumos, he hardly knew what it was, for the fact that Timothy didn't pay attention to the Professor, when he talked. Timothy often payed more attention to the pretty girls from Gryffindor... all though they didn't look at him. Timothy walked in to clas and as he was finding his seat he was reading the board, CHARMS: 1st - 3rd years Todays Lesson: Light spells. Lumos Recap and Collucos. Do NOT play with the stones until we get to that part of the lesson! Thank you. Timothy smirked at what was on the board, " Great we get back to class and first thing is that we can't play with the stones....what harm could that do?" Timothy thought to himself.
Timothy was sitting down as Professor Flitwick was talking about what they were doing today and going on about something, Timothy wasn't paying attention....How could he with a amazingly beautiful girl sitting across the room looking as is she was an angel. Timothy was stunned, he never really saw some one smile in class, why would they all you did was work. Timothy thought that she was the work kind of a girl. Timothy didn't care she was pretty and she defintatly caught his eye.
((sorrty it's long wasn't sure what really to go on))

Jake walked into class just as the bell rang, and quickly took a seat near timothy. he looked down at the tables and said a little too loud 'what are the rocks doing here?" As he looked up and noticed the writing on the board saying "CHARMS: 1st - 3rd years Todays Lesson: Light spells. Lumos Recap and Collucos. Do NOT play with the stones until we get to that part of the lesson! Thank you." Jake then said "oh." and lifted his book up in front of his face, trying to hide his embarrassment. after Professor Flitwick started talking Jake looked over at timothy, and noticed his vacant expression. he lifted his hand in front of his face, and waved it, trying to see if he was still with him. he then said to his friend "hey, you still spacing over something or what? hello?" What Jake didn't notice by this time though was Flitwick had just asked for a volunteer, and from another point of view, his hand could be called being up.

Williard walked into Charms class with his usual confidence. Charms was his absolute favorite subject, and Professor Flitwick was his favorite teacher, and that wasn't because he was Head of Williards House either. He anxiously looked around the room at all the stones that were elaborately placed on all the tables. Williard slowly smiled. He missed Charms over the break. He opted for a table all by himself in the front left row, careful to save a space for Skyler. He pulled out his book, and waited for class to begin.
After a few minutes when everyone got here, Professor Flitwick addressed the class, and let everyone know they would be going over the Lumos spell again, and learning a new charm, Collucos. Williard felt like his concentration sharpened when he heard they would be learning a new spell. He prided himself on how fast he was able to pick up and execute spells. When Professor Flitwick asked for a volunteer to demonstrate the Lumos charm, Williards hand shot in the air. He had Lumos down packed.
Though both his parents were very gifted with Charms, Williard assumed he got his talent from his father. He even taught Williard how to do some spells before he even got to Hogwarts, much to his Mother's disapproval of course. But Williard loved it. It gave him a slight edge in confidence when he first got to Hogwarts, knowing he could do things everyone else in his year couldn't. He patiently sat with his hand in the air as Professor Flitwick surveyed the room for someone to call on.

Aimee walked to Charms class with a bit of a jump in her step. Winter Holiday had been absolutely amazing, and she wished it would never end. But alas, Aimee had to go back to school and resume her usual studies. But, on the way there, all she could think about was the amazing holiday she had. She still remembered the night. December 22nd, 1999. Aimee had been in her room watching television when her mother, Holly Sinclair burst into the room excitedly. She was wearing her traveling cloak and her good winter boots could be seen on her feet. Seeing her mother’s Quick-Quotes-Quill, Aimee sat up. “What is it mum?” Aimee had asked excitedly, getting her own shoes on and releasing her Quick-Quotes-Quill from her desk drawer. “Ethan Jacobs has been shot, and we’re going to be the first to get a story out about it.” Holly had said with an evil grin.
That night had been fabulous. She caught a glimpse of Jacobs’ body, and even managed to see Ezzie Mendez, who was found at the scene of the crime. That night, Aimee helped her mother with the greatest story ever written. It did seem oddly suspicious that Ezzie Mendez had been at the scene of the crime right after her breakup with the boy. Aimee didn’t truly believe a fourteen year old was capable of doing such a thing, but the public obviously did. Witch Weekly sold more copies of the Ezzie issue than any other issue ever made! Aimee skipped to class, arriving at her seat just before the bell. She glanced up at the board and immediately began copying her notes. Aimee’s mother always used to say that a Good Journalist is a Good Student as Well. Aimee wanted to be a good journalist, so she tried hard to excel in her classes. As she copied notes, she felt someone’s stare on her back. She glanced around to see who it was. Her eyes landed on Timothy Bancroft, a boy in her house and year. Aimee flashed him a white flirtatious smile and turned her attention to the front of the class as Flitwick spoke. After such a long time in London with her mother, Aimee almost forgot the things she had learned in her Charms class before leaving. And then it hit her. Aimee raised her hand and waited to be called on.

Skyler sat alone in the Great Hall. Will had already left the Great Hall and gone to Charms. Skyler was anxious for the first Charms class of the term but he was not as excited about it as the tuna fish sandwich that he held in his hand. Skyler was so grateful to be back at Hogwarts where the house elves could cook. Not to say that his mother was a bad cook, she just wasn't good either. Since Skyler had discovered he was a wizard last summer his mother thought that she should be able to use magic to prepare meals. Unfortunately for Skyler and his father, she was a little out of practise. The house elves on the other hand, were right on cue. Skyler was in pure jubilation over his sandwich and was saddened when Will reminded him that they had to go to Charms today. He told Will he would join him shortly but he was going to finish his meal.
Drinking the last of his pumpkin juice, Skyler finally stood up and collected his things. He started out on his journey to the Charms classroom and recalled one of the first times that he tried to get there. He had gotten extremely lost and ended up in the Student Lounge somehow. In the Student Lounge he found Mackenzie Holden. Ah, Mack! His idol. Mack had been kind enough to take Skyler to the Charms classroom and promised him that she would give him a private concert one of these days. He couldn't wait until that day. Although he hadn't seen much of her lately. That was probably due to the fact that she was a seventh year and he was only a first year. She probably had a lot more to do than he did.
Entering the Charms room he saw Will seated in the front. As Skyler walked toward Will's table he read the writing on the board. Thankfully Professor Flitwick wrote in legible print unlike Professor Snape who seemed to favor chicken scratch. It was not until he read it on the board that Skyler noticed there was a stone on every table. He sat beside Will and greeted him and the two waited until class began. Professor Flitwick started the class with a question and Will's hand shot straight into the air. Skyler knew the answer also but he thought Will would give a fine response so he waited patiently seeing what the Professor would do next.

Timothy was too busy gazing at the Gryffindor, sitting in plain veiw of him. She had her head leaning on her left hand and smiling as Professor Flitwick was talking. Timothy couldn't help but think of how calm and flawless she looked. Although Timothy knew that no one was flawless, everyone had flaws, even him. Timothy hated to admit it but he did have flaws and tried to avoid it but was unable to. Quoteing his mother, Timothy whispered to him-self, " To avoid your own flaws, is to avoid yourself. Try to be proud that you are not perfect for being perfect is beyond what you DON'T want to be." Timothy quoted his mother many times before but he got into the habbit of quoteing her and not even trying to. One time he was in class, Defense of the Dark Arts, and he had quoted his mother, in a way that was not good and he had been starred at by his fellow Slytherins' as if he was a Hufflepuff. Timothy couldn't help it sometimes, his mother had acheived getting into his thoughts, his mind and took over. That was the least of his worries, Timothy had much more worries to worry about. Timothy needed to worry about his classes and to make sure that he knew completly where he stood on the relationship scale with Pagan, although he firgured he was not on the scale with her except for just friends. That was ok with Timothy because he had gotten over her, over the break.
Timothy finally noticed his friend Jake that had been waving his hand in front of his face for a while now." Well, what do you want? What was it Flitwick was saying?" Timothy was indeed not paying attention, and needed to know what was going on. Jake was Timothys' sorce to knowing what was going on when he wasn't paying attention. Timothy gazed back over to where he was looking before and saw that someone was looking at him. It was Aimee Sinclair, a third year in his house. She had beautiful blonde hair with amazing eyes. Timothy saw the smile she gave himm and gave his charming one right back to her. Timothy realized that he should of been looking at her, for she was amazingly beautiful.

Aimee watched as the boy smiled back at him. Aimee had an odd knack for knowing the names and histories of everyone in the school, and with one glance she recognized the boy as Timothy Bancroft. She smiled playfully and turned back around. She was having far too many distractions going on today. First, there was the immense sense of achievement for helping her mother get that story on Ezzie Mendez, and then there was Timothy Bancroft over there, who needed to pick his tongue off of the floor. Of course, his tongue wasn’t literally hanging out, but she could tell Timothy was distracted by Aimee’s presence. And she wasn’t going to lie. He was distracting her too.
Aimee blinked her thoughts away and focused on Flitwick’s question on Lumos. She knew this. The information was a bit foggy in her brain since Winter Holiday, but she still knew most of all she had been taught. Aimee raised her hand in the air with perfect elegance. Her hand didn’t shoot up in the air like that Ravenclaw in the front, but it was raised elegantly, just like Aimee’s mother had taught her. Everything you do must be done with poise and elegance. You are a well mannered young lady, Aimee, so please remember to act like one. Remember who you represent. Came her mother’s stern but kind voice in Aimee’s head. Aimee’s hand lingered in the air, waiting for Flitwick to call on her. He was probably going to choose that bratty looking Ravenclaw first year in the front, but it was worth the effort. With Slytherin in negative points, Aimee had to do something to maintain the greatness of Salazar Slytherin, seeing as no one else seemed to care.

((NOTE: Other students, you may still reply here. You can either act as if you were here from the very beginning, or you can act as if you arrived late, at your own risk. I'm happy with either, and all 1st-3rd year students are welcome to join.))
Flitwick looked around the class. He was very pleased with the turnout, with the room being nearly full, and a mixture of houses and years. There were a few spare seats and a few faces he expected to see were missing, but he thought that the best thing to do was to start the lesson now, seeing as they had limited time which he couldn't afford to waste, and there weren't many students missing, so it was unlikely he'd be interrupted a lot by incoming students.
His ears pricked at the sound of chatting near the back of the class. Not to his surprise, he noticed it was Jake Naito, who was placing himself next to Timothy Bancroft. He also noticed some flirtatious looks between Aimee Sinclair and Timothy Bancroft, continuing into his introduction to the lesson. Neither of the three 3rd-year students were paying much attention to the lesson. They were often the students that didn't pay attention from Flitwick's experience, and he often had to tell them to pay attention, as he did now.
"Mister Naito, chatting while I'm explaining the lesson is not acceptable. And Mister Bancroft and Miss Sinclair, this is neither the time nor the place for flirting, so please would you refrain from such matters until you leave the classroom at the end of the lesson. All three of you, I expect you to pay attention-I expect all of you to get at least passing grades, preferably Es or Os. Charms is an imprtant subject, and things you learn in your 3rd year may well be very important when it comes to your OWL exam, so for your own good you should pay attention."
"Right, back to the lesson. As I was saying, Today we're going to round off Lumos for now-we may well briefly go back to it at the end of the year if we have time-and start Collucos, another light spell, which is why we have rocks here today. Now, Mr Thoth, would you kindly demonstrate Lumos to the class before we start, to remind the class what we were doing at the end of the last term?" Flitwick had faith in Williard. In his first term at Hogwarts he'd shown great promise in Charms, and undoubtedly he'd end up doing well, both this year and hopefully his OWL, though that wouldn't be for another 4 1/2 years yet. he was a courteous and hard-working student-one might say he was a rather typical Ravenclaw.

Aimee was disappointed but not surprised to see Flitwick call on that bratty looking Ravenclaw in the front row. Aimee shot him a harsh look that she wasn’t sure if he caught. She also wasn’t pleased to be reprimanded by the professor either. Of course, he was one of those that gave special treatment to those in his house and then simply treated the rest like they didn’t exist. She rolled her eyes as he answered and continued on to her work. She listened as the first year Ravenclaw answered the question. The filthy little know-it-all. As Aimee listened to his words, she figured she would have been able to come up with a better answer than that. After all, three whole years of studying should have prepared her to answer a simple question like this.
She sighed, and her mind started to wander again. Aimee wondered what was up in Ezzie Mendez’s dorm room. Surely there were notes, letters, and even diary entries if she was lucky that Aimee could hand in to her mother. Or maybe Aimee would be able to find Ezzie’s song books and help her mother to divulge some song lyrics to the public before they came out. Aimee made a mental note to wander off into the Gryffindor girl’s dormitories one of these days and take a look near Ezzie’s things. That would surely please her mother greatly. She had been dying for some of Ezzie’s personal items such as a diary for ages. She said it would really tie the knot on the image Witch Weekly was trying to give her. Aimee smiled almost wickedly and brought her mind back into the lesson as Flitwick spoke once more.

Timothy turned towards Professor Flitwick when he had said, "...And Mister Bancroft and Miss Sinclair, this is neither the time nor the place for flirting, so please would you refrain from such matters until you leave the classroom..." Timothy hated being addressed in class unless it was to tell him how great of a job he was doing, this wasn't a great job address. Timothy knew that flirting in class was not acceptable but he couldn't help it. Timothy seemed to start to no care if he was alowed or not. Timothy like her and he was determinded to find out wheter or not she liked him back. Timothy thought that it was hard not to because of how handsome he was. Timothy had times when he thought very highly of himself, and sometimes he doubted himself. Timothy figured that if she was flirting with him then he had no reason to doubt himself.Timothy looked back over to Aimee for a last look before he began to pay attention. Timothy, to his surprise, saw Aimee raiseing her hand to answer the question. Timothy glanced in awe of the fact that she was actually trying to answer the question, not that he thought she couldn't but just that he took her as a strong Slytherin and didn't need to know exactly everything for people to know where she was on food chain. Timothy smiled as he looked at Professor Flitwick and figured that he wouldcall on her, and when he didn't he looked over to Aimee again to see what her reaction would be. Timothy saw she was glaring at the Ravenclaw that was answering the question. Timothy thought it was a bit funny because, she was glaring at a Ravenclaw, yet he could see clearly that the Ravenclaw didn't not see her.
Timothy decided to think of where to meet Aimee, Timothy wanted to meet with her after class was over so they could talk. Tiimothy wasn't sure of where she was going to go but he was sure that he would see her out side of class because, if he had to, Timothy would make it happen.Timothy looked back at Professor Flitwick as he began to talk again, then looking at Jake at the corner of his eye, he whispered, " So you just can't stay out of trouble can you? It's alright Flitwick is just a tease, he likes to scare you....so i think" Timothy had never gotten in trouble in Flitwicks class so that's just what he thought of Flitwick, is that he just liked to scare you.

Jake was facing his friend, still trying to see if he was "among the living" when Flitwick's voiced call across the room, saying "Mister Naito, chatting while I'm explaining the lesson is not acceptable. Jake slightly shuddered as he herd what he had said and answered in a very quiet voice, saying "yes sir" he then lowered himself below the table a few inches, and wondered how long it would take before he could become invisible. If there was one thing he didn't like to happen in class, it was to be called out. as he sat there he noticed his friend's attention seemed to be split between Flitwick and the slytherin girl in front of them both. as the teacher called up another student he pretended to reach into his bag to grab his book. well, it wasn't really pretending, because he set the book he pulled out in front of him, but he also put a quill, ink bottle, and a small piece of parchment, and waited for flitwick's back to turn and a little bit of noise to start.

After reprimanding a few students for talking, and flirting, if he heard right, Professor Flitwick called on Williard, and he immediately stood up, and walked around his table to the front and faced the class. ''Lumos,'' Williard said speaking clearly, ''is a very convenient spell with which wizards and witches use to make a beam of light shine from the end of their wands. The main purpose of the Lumos spell is to give light in dark places.'' He pulled his wand out of his robe pocket, and concentrating on remembering everything from the wrist movement to pronunciation, Williard waved his wand and said, ''Lumos.''
A light appeared at the end of his wand but it wasn't that bright, much to Williard's disappointment. Well, he couldn't have expected it to be too bright could he? It was daytime, and the classroom was no where near dark enough for it to really shine bright. Slightly smiling, Williard cheered up at those last thoughts, and turned to look at Professor Flitwick expectantly.

Flitwick looked over to Aimee and Timothy. he wasn't surprised to see that they were annoyed about being told off, and Aimee gave him a harsh glare, but they deserved it. He decided to ignore the glare-telling them off more would further annoy them, and that would probably put them off their work, which he didn't want them to do-maybe it was because he was their teacher and wanted to see his students succeeed, or maybe it was part of his studious Ravenclaw blood that didn't like to see anyone do badly, even if he didn't particularly like them.
at least one student in the class would be passing this year, if his good work continued. Williard continued to show promise as he explained what lumos did, and performed the charm perfectly. "Very good Mr Thoth, 5 points to Ravenclaw", he said proudly. He always liked giving points and rewarding students for good works, though he sometimes got the impression that some students thought he was biased towards his own house, when he tried to give points equally to each house, whenever possible.
"Now, onto Collucos. This is where the rocks come in handy. Basically Collucos is a charm that makes the object you are pointing at light up. The emphasis is on the "U", and there is no particular wand movement-just point your wand straight at the object and say "CollUcos, like so." He took one of the spare stones out of the box, put it on his desk, and performed the incantation. The stone lit up, and had there been no light on it would've lit the room alone. "Now, I would like you all to have a go at the charm, but firstly, does anyone have any questions? If not, then charm away"
((RP your students performing the spell. You can make them do it perfectly, or if you want you can make them do it completely wrong, whichever you want. I'll reply once a few have tried and show Flitwick's reactions to all of them, giving appropriate points.))

Aimee watched closely with her big curious blue eyes as Flitwick performed the Collucos spell. It didn’t seem difficult. All you had to do was point your wand at the rock and say Collucos the correct way. There was nothing to it. Aimee removed her wand from her robe pocket and cleared her throat. She held the wand to the rock and pronounced the word Collucos with such precision that the rock illuminated immediately. Yep, there’s nothing to it. Aimee said quietly, watching the rock with a proud smile. It was obvious Flitwick presumed that because Aimee was smiling at Timothy she was going to fail his class, but her rock said otherwise, didn’t it? She performed the spell again and again, letting it light up just like Flitwick’s with each and every try. She waited for the professor to walk over and marvel at her work.

For once Timothy e joyed what Flitwick was talking about. This charm Timothy knew he could perform. It was easy and simple. Timothy then looked at his rock sitting on the desk in front of him. Timothy smiled and took out his wand. Timothy wanted to show to Professor Flitwick that he was paying attention and he could perform any charm. Timothy pointed at the rock and clearly said" CollUcos" just as he said. Timothy made sure that he emphasized on the "U". Timothy smiled as he watched his rock light up, Timtohy knew he could doit. Timothy was proud to do it in one try, of course he was a Slytherin and he did everything perfectly! Timothy looked up at Professor Flitwick, giving him a look that told him that he had done it and he should come over and tell him what a great job he did. Timothy, not needing someone to tell him that he did a great job, liked it when people acknowlaged him. Flitwick didn't do any of that towards him, who blames him he's a Ravenclaw. He always acknowlages his House more then the others. Timothy had always gotten angry at this, of course Timothy would have done that towards Slytherin, but only because he thought Slytherin really knew what they were talking about.

Jake smiled as Flitwick explained the spell, even though he was a muggle born magic just seemed to be his thing. Or he so thought. He quickly and smugly pulled his wand out of his holster and pointed it at the small green pebble in front of him saying "Collucos" The pebble glow feebly at first, but then got a little stronger before fading out. Jake shook his head muttering "Too proud, need to stop doing that" and he lowered his hands to his lap, scribbling a small note for Tim saying 'hey Tim, whats going on? who are you goggling at?' He then quickly ripped the small piece off the parchment and held in his his hands, waiting for the right moment to pass it to his friend.

Timothy was waiting for Flitwick to come over and tell him how good of a job he had done, Timothy was also looking at Aimee. As if they were having a conversation with their smiles, and their eyes. Timothy gigled and turned to see how Jake was doing on the charm. Timothy knew that Jake was a muggle born and he thought that Jake had the whole magic thing down pretty well. Timothy saw that Jake had gotten the rock to light up, he was proud of Jake. Timothy then noticed that he was writing something on a peice of parchment. Jake held it in his hand like he was waiting for the right moment. Timothy rolled his eyes at Jake." Wel..... if your going to pass a note to someone sitting right next to you, then pass it already no one will see! Fool..." Timothy knew that he had to say this quietly and he did, he said it so soft ooly Jake and him could hear.

Flitwick walked around the room as the students took on the task, mostly with ease. Around him rocks were lighting up ro various brightnesses, and staying lit up for varying lengths of time, but overall the class was proving to be successful. The charm was quite an easy one, and hard to do badly, unless they ended up pointing at the wrong thing.
His first stop was to the back of the class, where he inspected Aimee Sinclair's work. She had great potential, if she used her head, and listened in class. She performed the spell well, and with ease. "Well done, Miss Sinclair. Ten points to Slytherin." Was Flitwick's only response.
He then made his way over to the other side of the room, were Timothy and Jake were sitting. Timothy, like Aimee, was coping very well with the charm, and so Flitwick awarded him 10 points also. Jake, however wasn't coping quite as well. The rock was lighting up, but not very brightly and not for too long. "Ah, Mr Naito, I see your problem. You're not putting enough emphasis on the "U". I'll award you five points for a good attempt." Flitwick then helped the boy with the spell, and eventually he was performing it a lot better.
When he was confident that the class was happy with the charm, he decided to move on. "Right, class, next task. THis time, you'll do the same thing, but without the light switched on-you'll be in the dark, and won't be able to properly see where your rock is. So you're not influenced by other people's light, I'll ask you to do this individually. Now, Miss Sinclair, you can go first, followed by Mr Bancroft, then Mr Naito. I'll tell the rest of you when to go once they've had their turns. Right." Timothy smiled proudly at the ten awarded points. Timothy knew that he desirved the ten points. After the dueling that Jake and him had done, Timothy needed to show that he wasn't just a fighter, that he could do some good. Timothy looked over at Jake and added to what Flitwick had told him, " Oh, come on i know you can do a lot better then that! Just because your a muggle-born doesn't mean that you can't be great at this stuff." Timothy knew and expected more of Jake. Jake had great potential! Timothy made this comment quitely, Timothy didn't like it when people thought he was a softy.
