Maryn was scrambling around her dormitory getting ready. She was always late for everything and she hated that. Maryn pushed through the pile of clothes on her bed searching for the perfect outfit. She was already late and she didn’t know what to wear! Maryn finally found an outfit that suited her and she headed down to the common room. After talking to her dorm mates and friends, she noticed how late she really was, So, Maryn ran out of the common room as fast as she could to reach the stair cases. After nearly falling off one that was moving, Maryn finally reached the last stair case. She quickly slowed her movements. She fixed the creases in her dress and smoothed out her hair. When she felt she looked perfect, Maryn headed down the stairs to meet Leon as they agreed on.
Maryn hoped she looked okay considering she picked out her outfit in the last minute. She loved fashion and shopping, but sometimes Maryn always delayed it. More than fashion, Maryn had a passion for school. She was a book nerd at heart. Maryn always blamed her parents for that because her mother and fathers’ families were both in Ravenclaw. Her mother was the only family oddball, who was in Hufflepuff. Maryn was just like her since she was placed in Gryffindor. Her parents didn’t like it when she was because they thought Gryffindors were overly brave. They thought Gryffindors would do anything to somehow change the world even die. Besides that, she was a little nerd with good fashion taste and that’s how Maryn liked it. As she walked down the stairs, Maryn searched for Leon. She was wearing a long, white dress with spaghetti straps. Her hair was pulled back half up, half down and it was perfectly straight. Maryn’s shoes were clear and it almost looked like she was bare foot. Her face was very pale as usual and it seemed to glow along with her light silver eye shadow. Maryn looked elegant and light like a fairy. She was dressed as a veela. Maryn liked the idea and she hoped Leon did too. She didn’t know what he would be dressed as. She then looked around for him as she smiled brightly.

Standing in front of the long, floor-length mirror in his dorm, Leon studied his appearance. He had thought long and hard about what to wear, throwing away several choices like Dumbledore- too serious, and the founder of his house Rowena Ravenclaw, for one obvious reason. Smiling at his dazzling reflection, he inspected it from both sides, finally pleased.
Leon was wearing a blue shirt, reminding him of Italian shirts from the style. On the breast of the shirt was an expertly detailed golden snitch, which moved whenever you didn't look at it, then stopped when you did. He was wearing a plumed hat, which lay on half of his head making the bright blonde of his hair look great with the blue shirt. His trousers were also a darker blue and snitches were over them too, though these stayed in-place. His shoes were sparkling gold, and his whole appearance was a blue-gold image.
Smiling once again, Leon strode out of the dorm, then walked down to where he would meet Maryn. He looked around, spotting her instantly. She looked great- the lights of the decorated castle made her hair shine beautifully, and the white dress gave her an angelic look. Creeping up behind his date, Leon stepped beside her, flourishing his hand and bowing, while speaking in a loud, deep voice. "Bowman Wright, the founder of the Golden Snitch, at your service." Grinning, he set the hat in place, and then continued in a normal tone. "You look great Maryn- i'm guessing your a Veela? Nothing else could match." He smiled, happy with his choice and hers.

Maryn let out a little squeal as Leon sneak up on her. She watched him bow and laughed a bit. "Hey, Leon. That's original. You look handsome." Maryn smiled at him. She was usually a cheerful person and she loved that about herself. Maryn loved to laugh and spread her joy to other people. Maryn had many friends who had been through a lot. She loved to cheer them up and she loved to see them better. Maryn loved helping people. It was one of those secret things that you never tell people. Maryn's secret was her passion for making things better. She often wondered why she wan in Gryffindor. Maryn was smart, like a Ravenclaw. She was cheerful and loyal like a Hufflepuff and sometimes bossy and stern like a Slytherin. It was weird to her because Maryn was a brave girl, but she thought she was more of a book nerd than anything. Maryn sometimes wished she could have been sorted into Ravenclaw because that would take the pressure off. Maryn often felt like she had to be brave at times. She felt that it was her responsibility to tell everyone that things would end up find or that the danger was gone. Sometimes she couldn't do that and it made Maryn wonder if she was meant to be a Gryffindor. She thought maybe that sorting hat made a mistake.
Maryn looked at Leon. it was a clever outfit and she thought it looked great on him. Maryn let out a funny curtsy just like his bow. She laughed again. "Yes, I am a veela. What tipped you off?" She asked. Maryn wished no one would recognize right away what she was. She wanted her outfit to be harder to recognize than that. "So," She said calmly. "We should probably go in." She said pointing towards the door. Maryn looked at the students around them. They were from various houses and she recognized some of them but not all. She was astounded that the Slytherins had decided to show up. Maryn thought that they wouldn't want to come someplace where muggleborns were walking around. Whatever. She thought as she shrugged. Maryn then looked at Leon waiting for a response.

Grinning at the compliment, Leon offered Maryn his blue-swathed arm. "Well you really do look beautiful tonight- only a Veela could match such beauty." Leon looked into Maryn's eyes, and grinned his boyish grin again. He had been looking forward to spending some more time with Maryn, she seemed fun and Leon knew the night would be great.
"Sure- lets go in. I heard they have some great decorations inside. Do you like Art?" The change of subject was obvious, but Leon was a random guy. Swatting at a fly on Maryn's white dress, he shifted his hat on his head, waiting for Maryn's answer.

"Thanks." Maryn grinned at Leon's comment. She liked Leon but she didn't know him too well. Maryn hoped she would get to know him better that night. Leon seemed a lot like her. They both usually had fun and laughed a lot. Maryn usually laughed at anything. Especially things that offended her. It was her way of shrugging it off and worrying about it later. She looked at Leon for a second and a part of her was wandering something. Would her parents approve? Maryn had never really got along with her parents, but she hoped they would. She wanted them to say she did something right for once. They had genuinely wanted her in Hufflepuff, but they thought Ravenclaw would work too. Maryn had been closer to her grand-parents because they understood her. They were happy to have a braze girl in the family. However, they died when she was young and Maryn couldn't talk to them anymore. She needed to sometimes. Maryn missed them and they would never know. They would never know the pain she felt from their loss. Maryn quickly turned her gaze to the ceiling and then back at Leon. She pondered for a second. Maryn knew they would approve, but she knew it was too early to tell anything.
Maryn held Leon's arm as the approached the door. She listened to his comment. "Yea, I do like art. I'm a dancer, myself, but I've painted before." She explained. Maryn's jaw dropped as they opened the door and went inside. The Great Hall was beautiful. Many pumpkins were everywhere and the dance floor was dotted with a mist. She smiled at the hall and looked back at Leon. “Wow, this is amazing.” She said still eyeing the candles placed across the hall. Maryn looked at Leon. “So, what do you want to do first?” She asked.

With yet another grin, Leon and Maryn walked inside. Leon listened closely as Maryn answered him, then smiled again. She was creative- which was very good in Leon's books. As they entered the room, he gave a gasp. It ws amazing- the mist on the floor gave it an ethreal look and candle flittered up high. Leon gave a scowl at the pumpkins, not trying to hide his distate of the orange menaces. When he was younger, a friend had cast one to come alive and it spat pumpkin huice and insides all over him. Not very good.
"Dancing? That's cool, it'll come in handy here. I love drawing- sketches mainly. Maybe i'll can draw you sometime." Leon looked at Maryn. He could see she would be excellent for a drawing- her great features and light hair would look great. Looking around, Leon answered her question. "Drinks first? I heard the house elves have made an excellent punch."

Maryn grinned as Leon responded. He said that her dancing skills would come in handy that night. Maryn would like to dance with Leon and she grinned at the thought. She stared at him as he said more. She couldn't help but giggle when he said she would make a good subject for drawing. Maryn didn't think she would be. She had a hard time being still and not laughing. Maryn was hardly ever found quiet. If she was, then you would know something was wrong with her. Maryn could only remember one time where she was quiet and that was when she almost hurt herself and left the school. She wasn't crazy or anything, she had just had a bad few weeks. Maryn had received a flashback of an event that happened when she was younger. Days after the flashback, Maryn was in a horrible state and she didn't talk or anything. All of her friends watched her like hawks and she didn't like that very much. It was like they didn't trust her or didn't want her to do something stupid. Maryn wasn't suicidal or anything. She was just not in a good state, that's all. The truth was, Maryn wasn't just a cheerful, happy person. She was so much different on the inside and the outside was just a wall she put up to hide herself.
"Maybe you could sometime." Maryn agreed with the concept of Leon drawing her. She wouldn't mind it very much. It might actually turn out good if she could keep still. Maryn laughed to herself at the thought. She had never been good at keeping quiet after the wall she made for herself was made. Maryn had decided a long time ago that she should make herself happy on the outside to disguise her insides. It worked for a long time and she had even almost forgotten the incident, but that all changed after the train attack. The attack had left her confused and scared. It was weird, her world had gone from seeming perfect to anything but perfect. The attack brought up those memories and they have been with her ever since.
"Umm, ya drinks first sounds great." She replied to Leon's suggestion. They headed over to the punck table and Maryn poured a glass for Leon and herself. Sometimes she just felt like acting like the guy. Usually the guy took charge, but Maryn liked to feel needed sometimes too. She took a sip of her drink. Maryn smiled and looked at Leon. "Wow, you were right. This is great punch. I bet they took a while to make it." She said. Maryn sometimes felt bad for the house elves. She wished they could go free and do what they pleased. Maryn then realized that they could with Dumbledore as Headmaster. But, they probably wouldn't leave just because the work they did was their lives. It was all they knew and they wouldn't just leave it for something that sounded okay but was so uncertain. At least, Maryn wouldn't do that. She then looked back at Leon. "So, what next?" She asked.

Watching as Maryn took Leon over to the drink's counter, Leon smiled. He liked this girl- her way of taking over made her seem nicer to Leon, and he liked it. Grinning, he let her take him to the drinks, then watched as her slender hands poured to punch, then took one and drank deeply. Doing the same, Leon almost moaned at the taste. Pumpkin Juice, grapes, apples and oranges, you name it and you could taste in in the drink. Downing the rest in one go, Leon saw Maryn had done the same.
"Yeah, that was really good. Almost as good as my mother's-almost, not quite." Leon grinned. His mother couldn't cook at all, let alone make a drink. But it was funny to say, and felt odd coming out of Leon's mouth. As he said it though, he wished it were true for Leon's parents had never really been there for him. Shaking off the wistful look, Leon Looked out at the dance floor, watching as the other student's feet disappeared in the mist, then popped up to show once again. Leon had taking some dance lessons, forced by his mother, when he was younger and he felt confident about his dancing. Taking Maryn by the hand, he led her over to the misty floors, ready to dance. "You want to?" He asked first. He would only dance if she wanted to aswell.

Maryn laughed as Leon said something about the punch not being as good as his mothers. Mrs. Lively did cook, but she didn't make drinks. Practically the only things she did do was cook. Mrs. Lively was too busy being scared about the world to even leave the house! Maryn was nothing like her. She was adventurous, funny, cheerful, and brave. Many things were unique about her and one fact was, Maryn was not at all like her mother. Her father was pretty much the same, scared and careful. He used to be an auror until the war when Maryn was very young. Then he took the family to live in the muggle world. Maryn always thought it was strange that a cunning auror was so concerned for his family instead of his job. She had heard many great things about her father back in his day. When he made the family move, all of that seemed to go away. He never seemed the same again. Maryn even thought maybe he never seemed to be fully impressed with her because she was what he used to be. Maybe that was it, but Maryn would never know.
Leon then lead Maryn onto the dance floor. She admired the fancy foot work as he led her further on to it. Everyone seemed to be good dancers. She loved to dance, but Maryn was going to let Leon be the guy for the moment. He then asked her if she wanted to dance. "I would be happy to." Maryn said laughing. She looked at him funny and then proceeded to let him lead. Maryn hadn't danced with a boy in a while and it felt good. She had been grounded the whole summer and it made her forget what having fun is about. That summer had been weird and full of disappointment. Maryn of course wanted to leave the house and have fun. Her parents just wanted her to stay at home and be afraid. She was so different from them, but Maryn knew she loved them no matter what they said. She then laughed at Leon. "This is fun." She said while they were still dancing. Maryn was glad she spent this night with Leon and not her other friends.

Leon watched as Maryn, and thought in his mind that she was beautiful. Of course, he didn't say it out loud like his friend had once done, but he thought it. Smiling at her, he kept his eyes on her as they danced, and settled one hand around her waist. The music was perfect for dancing, as always, and Leon felt calm but active all at once. Before him Maryn was letting him lead the dance, but Leon could see her skilled feet dancing in and out of the mist which showed she was more than capable of leading herself if she wished it.
After a few minutes the song changed to a slower melody, which made the whole atmosphere of the room change. Looking up at Maryn, Leon asked her if she wanted to carry on or take another break with the punch. In his head, Leon willed her to say carry on, for he was having fun with her as they were.

Maryn smiled as she looked at Leon. Somehow he always knew what to say. Sometimes he didn't say anything at all and Maryn could tell what he was thinking. She had a talent for that. Maryn could see what people were thinking by their faces. She just knew if they were upset or happy, confused, or concerned. Maryn payed attention to people. She liked to find out things about people that they don't tell anyone else. Because then she would feel trusted. Maryn's parents didn't really trust her. They were scared for her and only ever thought of the bad world. They only ever saw what could happen. That made her said because sometimes she felt like an outsider in her own family. When her grandparents were alive, Maryn felt like she fit in. But, after they dies, she felt alone and confused. Her life was different and she felt untrusted and even unloved sometimes.
Maryn watched her feet for a while and then looked back at Leon. She could tell he was enjoying herself and that made Maryn happy. She was glad she wasn't the only one. They danced for what seemed like a lifetime and Maryn wished it wouldn't end. The song then changed and Leon asked if she wanted to continue dancing. She felt her stomach grumble. "I want to dance, but I'm starving." She said. Maryn pointed her hand towards the buffet. "Want to get some food?" She asked politely. Maryn was starving because all she had was punch. She hoped Leon understood and she wished to dance with him again before the night was over.

Leon nodded- he too was hungry, as he hadn't really had anything to eat that day other than a few of his favourite cookies from the House Elves. He grinned as he and Maryn wove in and out of other dancing couples, narrowly missing feet in the mist. They walked up to the white buffet table, and Leon pointed at a huge, ice unicorn which towered over them.
"Wow- that is one piece of fine ice. Well spelled too- must have taken a while to make sure the ice didn't melt. We wouldn't like frozen Pumpkin Pie " Leon smiled.he actually thought a frozen pasty would be nice, though didn't say it. He watched as Nearly Headless Nick wafted in through a nearby wall, and nodded towards Maryn and Leon. Leon smiled back, then took a small colourful plate from a pile, handing one to Maryn as he did so. He slowly began to choose some foods, avoiding some sandwhiches the Bloody Baron just floated through.

Maryn followed Leon off the dance floor. Maryn giggled as they reached the buffet table. It was stacked with all types of food imaginable. Towers of pumpkin pies, tarts, and all sorts of things lined the white cloth. Maryn had never seen that much food in one place even at the sorting ceremony. She gasped at the huge ice unicorn Leon was pointing to. It was huge and it towered over them like they were ants. She was almost afraid it would brake and topple on their heads. But, Maryn knew Dumbledore probably put a spell on it for that. She laughed at the thought and then turned her attention on Leon.
"Yea, I bet they put a spell to keep it from toppling over, too." She commented. Maryn took the plate that Leon handed to her and started to collect assorted foods like Leon did. She smiled at the Nearly Headless Nick as he smiled at them. She placed tarts and cupcakes on her plates. Maryn had a taste for sweets and she hoped Leon understood she wasn't a lite eater. She didn't eat excessively, but Maryn sure did like her food. Maryn cringed as the Bloody Baron sored over head. He was rather creepy. She then sat down at a near by table after finishing her food collection. "It's a lot, but I'm hungry." She giggled at Leon. Maryn then began to eat her food.

trying to ignore the ghost floating through his food, Leon helped himself to cakes and more. He noticed out of the corner of his eye that Maryn seemed to like her food- and smiled. He just hated it when girls didn't eat anything, sayin it was for their 'figures', even though all they usually did was sit around doing their hair. While Maryn went over to sit down, Leon snatched a goblet of juice before the Bloody Baron could slither through it, then followed his date. Once he was seated he looked up as Maryn spoke. Smiling, he shook his head in defiance.
"No- i think it's great you eat properly. Good food too, so i wouldn't blame you." Taking a large bite from an odd greenish cake, Leon observed the hall. It reall was festive- the mist was the most noticable thing of course, but amazing decorations were everywhere, and flickering candles flew around the pupils heads as they danced. Sipping from his juice, Leon pulled a little on his collar- it was getting a little hot.

Leon came over to the table and Maryn smiled at him. She took a sip of her pumpkin juice and began to eat her food collection. There were so many delicious things on her plate that she didn't know where to start. The only thing she didn't like about the food was since it was Halloween, it was made to look bad. The food still tasted delicious, but Maryn didn't want to eat something that looked gross. She took her wand out of a small pocket in her skirt. Maryn pointed it at every item, cast a spell on them, and watched as they turned into their normal appearance. Maryn laughed at it. She then looked at Leon. "Do you want me to change yours?" she asked pointing to her newly changed plate. She then began it eat her collection of assorted foods with a smile on her face.
While eating her foods, she looked at Leon hoping to start conversation. She knew things about him, just not enough in her book. "Wow, this stuff is great." She exclaimed. "So, Leon tell me about yourself." She asked trying to be serious, but it just turned out a big giggle phrase. She hated herself sometimes for not being serious, but Maryn couldn't help it at all. She had always been happy and friendly and it seemed that would never change about her. Maryn finished off her plate as she waited for a response.

Smiling at Maryn’s little trick, Leon shook his head at the offer. “I’m ok- used to it. My mother’s food looks exactly the same. Though, maybe a little more burnt.” Another smile set itself across Leon’s face, and he took another bite of green cake. After a moment, he looked up as Maryn started to laugh after asking him a perfectly normal question. With a raised eyebrow, he stifled a little chuckle then said in a loud, clear voice- “Maryn Livley! I shall not have such unnecessary laughter in my company! Calm yourself at once!” It made a pretty good impression of Professor Snape, and Leon smiled yet again at the thought of it. Then he stilled himself, looked Maryn straight in the eye and began to slowly answer her question in between bites of food. “Well, what can I tell? I was born in India, have been to many places in the world with my mother and father. My sister was born when I was three- have I told you about her?” Leon waited patiently for an answer, still seeing the laughter twinkle in Maryn’s eyes. As he waited, he looked across the dance floor. So many people, dancing, talking, laughing, just having fun. He noticed a Slytherin trip up a first year couple, and frowned. Slytherins- always ruining things for others. He watched as the couple got up, cast a frightened look at the girl who had tripped them, then grasp each others hands and run off the misty floors. Almost growling in anger, Leon turned his attention back to Maryn.

Maryn laughed at Leon's comment about her mother's food. Her mother was a decent cook. She was rather gifted in magical cooking and Maryn never went hungry. She was glad that her mother's food didn't look like that or Maryn would be even smaller than she already was. She liked to eat a lot. Maryn wasn't a pig or something, she just didn't have a problem with food like some girls. Maryn laughed even louder at Leon's impression of Snape. "That was perfect." She giggled. Maryn looked at Leon for a moment. "I can't help it. If I don't laugh I will probably die." She giggled again. She had always been a laughing, happy girl and that was probably the way she would always be. Maryn took a sip of pumpkin juice and then looked back at Leon.
Maryn raised an eyebrow when Leon said he was born in India. "Oh, cool." She said. It was pretty neat. Maryn wished she could travel like that. She had basically lived in London her whole life except when her parents moved to France for a while. But, Maryn couldn't remember that. Leon then said something about his sister. "No, you haven't mentioned her." She paused. "Tell me about her." She said curiously.

Leon smiled at Maryn's joy. At her question, he paused. What to say? His sister had been very ill, breaking down for three months every other year or so. She hadn't been able to get out of bed or do anything during this time. The illness she had had ever since she was born, and it broke Leon's heart when he saw her. He often stayed at school in the holidays, to make it easier for his parents. Just last year, around Katie-May's eleventh birthday, a cure was found. Since then May joined Hogwarts, was placed in Ravenclaw and has enjoyed active living.
After flicking some hair from his eyes, Leon said all this, setting it into his own words and wearing a stoney expression. At the end, he took a long drink from his goblet which had filled by itself, then waited for Maryn to respond. His sister was fine now, and as they had always been very close he loved the fact he could now see her every day, and be there if anything happened.

Maryn looked at Leon as he explained everything. She was amazed by what she was hearing. He sister was very sick. Maryn couldn't think how she would react if that was her sister. She gently twirled her hair while looking at him. Maryn always twirled her hair when she was nervous or didn't know what to say. She never quite figured out how to react in situations. She hated to hurt people. Maryn had hurt her share of them, but that of course was when her big story happened. That was when she was four on that sad night. Maryn snapped her head when she thought about it because she hadn't in so long. She looked at Leon again. He said that Katie-May was okay now and Maryn couldn't help, but sigh a sign of relief. She smiled at him thoughtfully not knowing exactly what to say. "I'm glad she's better." She finally squeaked out.
Maryn hated situations like that. Even if they were better, she hated dealing with them. She just wanted all the drama to go away. Her life had been filled of it and she just wanted it to end. Perhaps that's why she laughed and smiled so much. Of course, most of the time Maryn couldn't help it. She was a happy cheerful person inside and out most of the time. Maryn decided to reply again to the subject. "I don't know what i would do if that were me." She sighed again. Maryn then looked at Leon waiting for a reply and hopefully to change the subject.

Leon could easily see Maryn’s discomfort at the subject- and the feeling of dey ja vu was amazing. Since first year, so many people had reacted the same way, though Leon knew he would do the same if it were someone else’s sibling. Smiling at Maryn, he answered her with a reply and subject change.
“Yes, but she’s fine now- loving Hogwarts too. I love seeing all the first year faces as they come in, all wide-eyed and amazed. Isn’t it odd to think that we were once like that? I can’t remember much from my first year, apart from someone pushing Mrs Norris in the lake by ‘accident’.” Leon chuckled. “Good times!” He remembered the angry Filch and the laughing students, the wet cat and even the sniggering teachers. He couldn’t remember who had done it, though did know they were much famed for after the incident. He didn’t see the cat and it’s master much now- sometimes he would see them slinking out of class rooms or appearing as if from no-where. He guessed that Filch knew of some secret passages in the Castle, and with a smile told Maryn how marvellous it would be to find one.
