Ethan was up at the crack of dawn. Although he was no longer twenty-five years old and able to jog for an hour every morning, his internal body clock continued to insist upon his early risings. Ethan didn't mind; Haley liked to sleep in, so he enjoyed a few hours to himself. Getting up early meant more hours during the day in which to enjoy catching up on his reading or organising another Quidditch event. After grabbing a quick breakfast from the Great Hall, Ethan left the school buildings to walk around the Grounds leisurely. Hogwarts scenery had changed little, even after almost forty years.
A few hours later, Ethan was on the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch for another day of Quidditch Skills Cup activities. First up today was the Beaters, led by Danielle and Dawson. Ethan would be the one to start off the competition, though; after all, he hadn't just come to Hogwarts to watch, but to lead the event. "Beaters," he addressed the six-strong group consisting one student from each house in the senior years except for Hufflepuff, and a much younger Gryffindor with a cute face but spunk in her eyes, which reminded Ethan strongly of Hayley as a child. "Today's task is called Double Deflection. In a moment, Caley and Oakes will give you two bats each. Armed with these bats, you will defend this wall from Bludgers." Ethan turned around and gestured at the magically-created wall. "The aim is to not let any Bludgers hit the wall. The person to last the longest will be victorious."
Ethan waited as Danielle and Dawson quickly handed out the bats to each player. He studied each face: from the determination set in the seventh-year Gryffindor and Slytherin Captains, to the less intense but equally resolute visages of the two sixth-year boys. Ethan knew them; they were related to Wyatt Miles, one of the Chasers in the Wigtown Wanderers. The Hufflepuff kid was his brother, Finn Miles, whilst the Ravenclaw boy was their cousin. Then there was the third boy, a seventh-year Hufflepuff. Finally, Ethan watched the third-year girl take up her 'weapons'. As a Beater himself, Ethan knew the importance of the bat; it was everything in a Quidditch match, and a Beater had to understand how to utilise it well. A Beater's job wasn't to be violent, but to protect his or her teammates with that bat. Ethan hoped to see some brilliant defending today.
"Good luck," he said with a smile at the six. "Let's begin."
((Aggressiveness, Handling, and Accuracy stats will be added to 5 D6 rolls to determine the player who lasts the longest. See here for your stats. The deadline will be edited here later when I have been told what it is.))
