The sun was out, as it had been for probably all the summer months, but it was starting to lose some of the surging heat, but it still kept a pleasant temperature. The clouds were everywhere, but they were sheer and thin with little holes scattered in them, like a fluffy, cottony lace laid over the sky, moved slightly by the constant breeze. It was, in Zoey’s opinion, the perfect day, especially for the first Quidditch practice. She smiled and waited in the middle field with a ball, Quaffle size and the weight of the Quaffle, dozens of balloons filled with red paint, to represent Bludgers for her fellow Beaters, and then a small little yellow ball to represent the Snitch. She had gotten three volunteers from a couple of her classes, willing to cast spells on the balloons and “Snitch”, that way things ran smoother. “Morning Gryffindors!” she called cheerfully to she and Oscar’s team. She smiled at them, scanning their faces. There wasn’t many on the team, since three had graduated and a couple quit. She frowned at that, but quickly smiled as she looked closer at their faces, all of them familiar.
There was Oscar and herself, then Trinity, a name she couldn’t forget since she had witnessed a somewhat scary by hilarious scene in the Great Hall where she was chewing some boy out verbally. There was also Melody, she didn’t see her face yet, she was probably stuck behind one of the taller people in the crowd. She was an excellent player. And then there was her friend Danny, another great player- Scott Ryder, and then there was Rosaliz. “Chasers! Scott, Danny! Here’s a Quaffle…” she grinned and almost laughed while she held up the hard ball. It wasn’t leathery or filled feeling like the actual Quaffle was. Instead, it was sort of smoothed and wooden feeling, and hollow, but it worked. Zoey handed it to Scott. “You pass it to me, once I’m in the air, and Danny,” she pointed to him, “will try and intercept. When/if I have the ball in my grasp, Danny will move closer to the hoops and I’ll pass to him, while you try and intercept. And so on and so forth.” She looked around frowning, seeing that their only true Keeper, who happened to be the captain wasn’t here with her. “He better have a good excuse...” she grumbled to herself. She was nervous enough was it was being vice captain, running a practice didn’t help either.
“Beaters!” She looked at Melody and Trinity. “I’d join you, but I’m needed with the Chasers. You’re job is to hit these paint filled balloons at us and the Seeker. We’ll know if you hit us when there’s a big blob of paint on us.” She smiled at them. “And I know, the balloons might break, but if you hit them just right, as you would to a Bludger, it’ll be successful.” She nodded to them. They’ll be levitated and moved around the pitch, as real Bludgers would, by our handy volunteers.” She pointed to them. “I hope to get hit.” She smirked, and frowned as her Seekers were already practicing. “We’ll do these drills for about 20 minutes, take a break, and then work on different practices after, alright?!” she said, handing them their brooms and starting to hover. Zoey looked to two of the volunteers, nodding for them to send two of the balloons airbourne to start practice.
