The air was much softer here…warmer and moister than she was used to, or so she seemed to believe. It was beautiful though. Peaceful. The whole world seemed to have slowed down around the two women as they stood on the pathway that led into the lush gardens of Villa Borghese. It was ones of Rome’s greatest parks and probably the most beautiful garden Clarissa Carter had ever seen. She was standing there beside her mother as their eyes slowly took in the foreign world. It was their annual vacation; Mr. Carter had failed to make it once again this year. It was beginning to be a mother-daughter vacation as opposed to a family vacation. Lucky for Clarissa though she had managed to smuggle in her Muggle cell phone with her…the only thing she had to keep in contact with Jace while she was a million miles away from him…okay so a million was a bit of an exaggeration, but still it was a long way. Thank goodness her mother was a Muggle-born. Clary couldn’t really imagine living without some of the Muggle technology that she had come to possess and love over the last ten years of her life. It was a shame the wizarding world didn’t take advantage of the technology. Imagine what they would do if they had cell phones…the whole sticking your head in the fireplace thing would become such an archaic method. Well that was something Clary would try to do, bring the wizarding world into the 21st century, or die trying…wasn’t that how the phrase went? Either way, it would give her some sort of meaning, more so than just starting a family and spending every waking moment with the man she hoped to be with forever…wow she really was getting sappy in her old age.
A soft smile tugged at the corner of her lips as her inner dialogue kept right on, not even missing a beat as a group of Muggles walked around her mother and herself. It was apparent that her mother was just as awe struck as she was. They were going to have to get moving though before they were run over. This was a fairly popular garden it seemed and there were plenty of foreigners that wouldn’t mind running them over if they continued to stand like statues in the garden. Slowly she touched her mother’s hand, bringing the woman back to the present and the dark haired woman smiled down at her daughter. ”It’s beautiful here, don’t you think so Clary? I think I’ll place my next story here. Rome has such wonderful opportunities for the written word and so much potential for great romantic epics. With Prince Charming sweeping the Roman Princess off her feet! Just like Romeo & Juliet. ‘In fair Rome where we lay our scene…’.” Carolyn Carter smiled and went on, changing the Romeo & Juliet chorus little by little to make it more personable and timely.
“You know Mum…Two little words come to mind if you write your story using those words,” Clary said with a smile as she looked over at her mother.
”And what words are those?”
“Law Suit,” Clary said, the smile breaking out into a smirk as she started to laugh. Her mother’s musical laughter joined hers as they both finally began a slow paced walk through the garden park. It was obvious they were both giddy with excitement. It was only their second day in Rome and they both loved it immensely. Clary hadn’t seen her mother take so many pictures since she the photo album of all her baby pictures. The best thing was that not all of the pictures were magical either…sure there were a few moving pictures they’d both taken, but there was something more mysterious about a picture that didn’t move…it was still and it was captured for all eternity in the same exact position that they’d seen it in. It just seemed better sometimes. As it was now they were hardly using their cameras. The place was so peaceful it was almost unnecessary to disrupt that peace with the noise of a camera clicking.
The lush green grass was all that Clary could really think about as she watched her mother stop beside her. Looking up she already knew what her mother was going to say and beat her to it. “I’ll meet you back at the entrance in an hour Mum. I’m just going to sit and sketch a bit,” Clary said with a soft smile. Artistic talent had been bestowed upon the Carter daughter. It was a rare talent to have as it normally skipped generations in her family, but she had been lucky enough to find an interest in all of the forms of art, especially music and drawing. It made it that much easier to connect with her mother and yet at the same time made it that much harder to connect with her father. He still loved her though, that she knew for sure. What was more important however was finding a good place to sit down near the small lake. She wanted to sketch the structure and it’s reflection beside the still waters. Taking her seat near the water’s edge, suddenly the peace and quiet of the Villa Borghese gardens was disrupted by the full on splashing of one Clary Carter. The cold pond water drenched her whole form, water pouring down her face, her shoulders, and plastering her hair to her head. Clary sucked in a breath as she slowly opened her eyes again, taking in the sight of a laughing dry teenager before her eyes moved to the over sized rock that had been tossed in beside her as she sat down. Whether it was on purpose or not Clary was clearly annoyed. “Pardon me, but an apology would be appropriate at this time.”
