‘Up and up I am up up up’ Gavin chanted in his head as he lay in bed waiting for his twin brother to get out of the bathroom they shared. Jheylon was taking one of his super extra LONG showers that he only took when Gavin was away at school or asleep. Of course, Gavin had been away at school so often for the past 5 years that Jheylon had lost touch of how late his brother slept, forgetting that he often woke up early because he couldn’t stay up late, he would pass right out at ten. But now he was up and waiting… waiting… waiting… It wasn’t like there was any other bathroom he could use either. There was another one upstairs… but he would have to cross through his parents bedroom to get to it (not happening) or the one downstairs… that was Anna’s… and Anna was 13. Ergo, no other bathroom that he could use in the entire house.
FINALLY after an immeasurably long time Jheylon emerged with a towel wrapped around himself looking pleased. “Oh, you’re up” was all he said. Gavin just glared for a moment before making a beeline into the steamy room.
Breakfast was a much more acceptable affair, Anna even deigned to show up for a full five minutes in which she interrogated everyone about the placement of her newest boyband’s cd before running away when their mother threatened to make her eat with them. The boys chitchatted about what they had planned that day of freedom, Jheylon wanted to cruise the music stores while Gavin was going to make a quick trip to Hogsmeade for “early school supplies” of which he was very vague. Their parents were, surprise surprise, going to work.
So the family split up, Anna to blare her rebellious love songs in her room with her newfound cd, their parents to the garage, and the boys off to the metro to get to Charring Cross Road. That’s where they split up, Jheylon going into the music store shaking his head while Gavin seemed to disappear into The Leaky Cauldron which he swore was right next door. From there Gavin went right to the fireplace and used some floo powder he kept in his bag to get him to the Three Broomsticks.
There it was hip and happening and overall busy… and not where Gavin had in mind as his final destination. He made his way out of the lively pub into the nearly deserted streets, it was a hot summer day and everyone seemed to have retreated inside. Gavin took a huge breath in, it was good to be home. Over the past 5 years Gavin had really come to view the wizarding world as home and he really missed it on the breaks he spent in the muggle one… Not that he didn’t love the muggle world and he loved nothing more than his family in them but… he was a wizard after all. If someone would have told him one day he would feel like that 5 years ago he would have laughed in their faces.
Gavin passed a few people on the street though not many as he made his way to the brightly coloured windows of Zonko’s Joke Shop, the real reason for his trip to the wizard’s village. Stepping inside Gavin immediately felt like he was swimming in a sea of bright colours and strange smells. There were booms and bangs coming from every corner as people checked out the various products, it was all very impressive.
Was that… blue? It was, it was blue… just what Jheylon needed... a little blue in his shower. Slowly, ever slowly Gavin approached the product on the wall with a smirk on his face and not a thought in his head but about the product… “Blue” Gavin muttered under his breath, “perfectly blue”.
