((This post is set at the beginning of summer holiday.))
Grabbing his own trunk with one hand, Ephraim held what he could of Sadie's stuff in his other hand, frustrated that he couldn't just use magic to float all of their summer belongings in front of them as they exited the Hogwarts Express. The whole 'no magic during holiday' rule was more than inconvenient, and it always seemed to take a few weeks of getting used to before Ephraim could shake the habit of being able to use magic. Sometimes though, Nan, his grandmother, would turn a blind eye to the small use of magic for simple things during the summer. Ephraim knew better than to use any sort of large magic though, fearing that the Ministry would find out. "Got it all?" he asked Sadie, smiling as he watched her struggle with the bulkiness of her trunk. He smiled at her as she followed closely behind, more than happy that she'd be spending her summer holiday with him. When Nan had said it'd be fine for Sadie to live with them for the summer, Ephraim literally ran to tell her the good news. They'd only been dating for a few months, but Ephraim wanted to be able to spend as much time with Sadie as he could.
They finally managed to fight through the crowd of other students and their families, and Ephraim sat down the items that he was carrying in an attempt to give his arms a break. Nobody would be meeting Ephraim and Sadie though, as it was planned that he would simply use the nearest floo network to arrive at the manor. "Can't believe that summer is actually here," he noted. He had been looking forward to the end of school for a while now, a lot more than he had in years past since he wouldn't be bored and alone this holiday. His mind was already planning everything that he wanted to be able to do with Sadie. There was so much to show her. The manor was located on one of the biggest properties just outside of London, and there was so much ground to explore. "The floo network we're using is this way," he said, grabbing the trunks again and walking toward a small and shabby looking building. Inside there was nobody around, and the small building hadn't been used for years. There was a small fireplace in the corner, however, one that he was sure many families used to get to platform 9 and 3/4. Ephraim grabbed the pouch of floo powder from his bag and took a handful. Tossing it in the fireplace, he stated in a clear voice, "Bluewater Manor!" The green flames came almost instantly, and Ephraim took Sadie's hand. "Ready?"
As the stepped into the flames, the familiar rushing feeling surrounded E and he made sure to hold tightly to Sadie's hand. Seconds later, they came rushing out of the grand fireplace in the middle of the manor's dining room. As he regained his balance, Ephraim hurried to gather the scattered belongings, almost running right into the feet of a woman who had entered the room. His eyes traced their way up the woman's legs and finally were set on her face. A surprised sensation ran through Ephraim's entire body as he gulped a response. "Mum?" His blue eyes met the matching blue eyes of his mother, someone he had not expected to see at all. "You're back from the states?" he questioned hesitantly. At least she could have warned him. She stood with a semi-warm smile, probably expecting a hug or something. Maybe she was hoping for more excitement from her son, but he was too shocked to be excited.
"Ahh.... this is Sadie," he said finally after a pause. "Sadie, this is my mum, Lisa." Lisa reached out a hand to properly greet Sadie. "Sadie's my girlfriend," he added quickly. He didn't want to seem ashamed to admit this because he was far from ashamed of Sadie. And, if his mom didn't like her or had anything to say about it. Ephraim would be quick to come to her defense. "Sadie is staying with us for the summer. How long are you here?" He hoped that his question didn't come off as being too demanding, but he had the right to know. Lisa had her own life in America, and as much as Ephraim loved his mother, she didn't have any right just barging back into her life when she pleased. Not after she gave up the opportunity to be in his life just to pursue her own dreams.
"Nan has told me all about Sadie," Lisa said with a smile. She truly was a nice woman, but Ephraim wouldn't be the first to say so. "A very lovely girl," she added, taking a moment to observe Sadie from head to toe. "Good enough for my little E," she said, reaching out to pinch Ephraim's cheek.
"Muuum," he growled lightly with annoyance. He hated when she treated him like he was still seven years old. Just because she wasn't there to watch him grown up didn't mean that she could act like he was still a kid. "We're kind of tired," he said, trying to figure out a way that they might escape. "We'll be back down for dinner. Just going to go unpack our stuff and take a moment to relax."
"But you haven't even said hello to Nan," Lisa protested.
"I'll see her at dinner," Ephraim replied. He wasn't normally so snappy, but his mother always brought out this side of him. "If you'll excuse us..." Ephraim took what stuff he could and nodded for Sadie to follow him. They went upstairs where the two top level bedrooms were. One was his and the other was one of the guest rooms that he had asked Nan to set up for Sadie. "You'll be in here," he said, pointing to the room to the right. Once in side, he put Sadie's stuff on her bed and then turned to face his girlfriend. "Sorry about that. I had no clue my mother would be here."
