Olivia couldn’t take this anymore. She simply couldn’t keep putting up with Laura’s abuse. Now she was attempting to keep Olivia locked up in the house and out of the streets by having her clean the house. The entire house. Olivia was a daughter, not a maid. Not to mention Laura was talking about arranging a marriage for Olivia. That was the one subject that had angered Olivia the most. She wasn’t going to have her mother of all people pick out a mate for her. She simply wasn’t going to allow it to happen. She already knew the people Laura had in mind for Olivia, and she hated each and every one of them. Laura Dawson was beginning to get out of control. It seemed that the older Olivia got and the more she tried to pull away, the tighter Laura began to cling onto her. Olivia didn’t understand it. It had always seemed like Laura hated Olivia, yet for some reason she enjoyed keeping her trapped inside the house that she had been physically and emotionally tortured in for years. Why didn’t she just tell her to get out? Olivia would do it in a heartbeat, even though she knew she’d have nowhere to go.
But ever since the day she returned home from school, Olivia had been wondering about that very same thing. There was nothing more that Olivia wanted in the world then to move out of the Dawson household. But where would she go? How would she pay for her outrageous lifestyle? Her bet with her friend was long over, but Olivia was trying to cut down on the cigarettes. She had been limiting herself to only three a day, and it was hard. But Olivia was dealing. She had a horrible temper and she felt horrible, but hopefully she’d be able to quit completely one of these days. But her cigarette smoking had nothing to do with her current problem. She did have her aunt and cousin, but she couldn’t rely on them for money like she did Laura. She needed to work hard. And she was willing to. She’d even gone to Diagon Alley and landed a job as a waitress at the Leaky Cauldron. It didn’t pay much, but it was enough to get her through the year. Her school supplies were already purchased and her tuition for the next two years was already paid for. The Leaky Cauldron job had even agreed to let her live in the place with reduced pay if she took the job. So if Olivia wanted to leave….
“Olivia Rose! Get down here!” Laura’s shrill voice echoed from downstairs. Olivia rolled her eyes, but she walked downstairs nonetheless to see what it was Laura wanted now. Olivia took her time getting down the stairs, but eventually made her way down and found Laura sitting in one of the armchairs in the foyer. Laura arched her eyebrow. “What took you so long?” Laura accused, making her question sound more like an accusation. Olivia rolled her eyes and didn’t answer. Laura folded her arms across her thin frame and glared at her daughter through pursed lips. “Well, no matter. I called you down to let you know I’ve found someone for you. I don’t want to hear any arguing or any kind of fuss. You two will spend the next two years getting to know each other. Then as soon as you graduate, you are marrying him. No questions asked. Understood?” Olivia resisted the temptation to throw a bottle at the woman. Instead she simply stared at her mother with a cold, heartless expression.
“I won’t do it. You can’t make me.” Olivia said stubbornly, getting up to go back upstairs. “Yes you will, Olivia. You will do as I say. Or did you forget that credit card and Gringotts key that’s sitting in your little pocket?” Laura challenged. Olivia merely scoffed. “As if. You think I need your money? You think I will actually put up with your nonsense for another two years all because of money? You cannot put me in an arranged marriage. I’m not even seventeen!” Olivia protested loudly. Normally, she tried not to yell in the house so as not to scare Elle, but she and her brother weren’t home, so all was fine. “Well, you’ve put up with it in the past because of that, so I don’t see why you wouldn’t do it now!” Laura stated, thinking she had won the battle with that simple phrase. Olivia merely scoffed. “Because I’m fed up. You can’t tell me what to do anymore. All this time, I wondered why I was still even here. TAKE YOUR CREDIT CARDS, TAKE YOUR DAMN KEY. I’m out of here.” And with that, Olivia threw the two items at her mother and stormed upstairs. Olivia was halfway up when Laura called out to her. “You can’t leave! You have no money, no job, and no place to stay! You can’t leave!” She screamed back. Olivia laughed. “You think I haven’t thought of that? I don’t need your money anymore. I have a life of my own now. Hope you enjoy yours.” Olivia screamed as she stomped up the stairs.

And ten minutes later, she was gone.
