Argus mumbled slightly to himself as he followed the light of his lantern. Night patrols could be considered one of his favorite times, and one of his worst. The annoying part was that he had to stay up all night to simply patrol these corridors, and then he was expected to continue his day duties also, and these disrespectful kids and that darn poltergeist weren’t making his day duties a walk in the park. On the flip side he was able to bust some kids, even though he was the least respected Staff member on the Hogwarts roster the children still had to respect him like any other staff member. Nothing gave him more joy than to bark orders or hand out punishments and watch that mental battle behind a student’s eye, if any student chose to fight against Filch or step out of line, they would be expelled from the school.
Argus stopped at an intersection on the second floor hallway for a quick rest. He knew the entire castle was covered; Mrs. Norris was patrolling the upper floors for him while he covered the bottom two and then the grounds. Argus had worked out a pretty decent rotation with his cat, some days she took the route he was taking now and he took the upper floor route. Mrs. Norris was the only other occupant of this castle who he could trust to do the job correctly. Although the teachers sometimes patrolled the corridors they were bias. They each had their favored student who they tended to be too lenient on, a habit that Argus didn’t approve off. All the students should be punished equally and for each transgression.
Argus moved toward the wall and set the lantern down on the sill, resting his hands on the sill Argus leaned against it and stared out across the dark sky, letting the soft breeze blow across his face. Pure luck caused Argus to look down and spotted slight movement down on the grounds. The movement was small, a simple shadow flickering behind a corner and then was gone, had Argus not looked down when he had he would never have spotted the movement. “Gotcha..” He muttered to himself and quickly snatched up his lantern. The light flickered and bobbed wildly as Filch ran, huffing and puffing, through his many secret passages. Using his passages Argus reached the ground floor and doors quickly, the doors slammed open as Argus pounded out into the grounds.
Spinning on the spot Argus quickly ran along the walls of the castle towards where he had seen the movie. Argus rounded the corner, his face bright red and breath labored. “Hey!” He called out when he noticed the dark silhouette off in the distance. “Stop right there!” Pausing only long enough to catch a quick breath and shout out his warning Argus once again began to run toward the figure in the distance.
