Hayley woke with a start. Must have been having another nightmare, she thought but she remembered nothing but pleasant dreams. She was annoyed with herself. Why can't she ever just sleep in? Rolling on her side, Hayley found herself wide awake, even though her body was aching of exhaustion. She sat up and looked at the clock; it was only 6:42. Deciding to go down for breakfast, Hayley quickly dressed and combed her long blond hair without waking the other fourth years.
When she reached the Great Hall, it was almost empty. She sighed and sat down at the Slytherin table. Groggily, she poured herself a goblet of pumpkin juice and spread butter on a piece of toast, hoping food would make her a little more lively. Hayley took a bite of toast and pondered what she would do with herself today. A walk by the lake was out; she looked up at the ceiling and saw angry, swirling dark clouds. No doubt it would rain, if it wasn't already.
Hayley threw out the rest of her toast and took a sip of pumpkin juice. She was glad she felt a little more awake, but rested her head on her hands. Gradually, the Great Hall started to fill with students, making the noise level rise. Once again, Hayley cursed herself for not sleeping in.
