Danny was bored in the common room as he just stared out the window. This was his normal “I’m bored” look, just blanking looking at the clouds pass by. He had no real reason to be bored, the school was quite busy with the fact that it was almost summer break. People were making plans to meet up or just make sure to write each other, Danny hadn’t made very many plans but did promise to write people and meet up with them sometime over the break. Danny watched one last cloud float by as he realized it looked like a puffy dog or something, which made him laugh a little to himself. “Well enough of that for now, I can’t waste my whole free day doing this.” He said to himself as he stood up.
He knew he was going to do something but had no idea what, nothing seemed to jump out at him. Danny just picked to walk around the whole school one last time while he had the chance, he wouldn’t be here for couple months and he was going to miss it so much. He made it out of the common room with no problem from The Fat Lady, she was too busy talking to another portrait to notice him. He made his way down a few flights of stairs glad to see none of them moved on him, it was so annoying when that happened. He made it to the fourth floor and decided to take one last walk around the library and possible find something he had missed the last few times he was there.
As Danny walked from bookcase to bookcase he still couldn’t find anything interesting, he pulled out a few books but nothing really caught his eye. Pushing one book back in the shelve he pushed a little to hard as one of the books on the other side fell down with a loud smack. Danny ran around the bookcase to make sure it hadn’t hit anyone. What he found was a first year standing very close to where to book landed. “I’m so sorry about that if I scared you.” Danny said as he walked closer and picked up the book then put it back. “I’m Danny by the way, nice to meet you, and who might you be?” Danny said with a smile hoping the kid wasn’t to scared or more likely mad about what had just happened.

Matthew was sitting outside, bored and, quite frankly, rather glum. His first few weeks at Hogwarts had, admittedly, been interesting and challenging, but he had made few friends, and spent most of his spare time sitting in the library, studying for his favorite subjects, or simply, doing as he was doing now, relaxing outside by the lake, under the cool shade of one of his favorite trees. The school seemed to have that haze of dull laziness and irritation about it, with Summer break fast approaching, many students were growing increasingly frustrated at how the last few weeks slipped by with such torturing slowness. Matthew, however, felt the opposite of this, if it wasn't for his lack of friends, he would have been sure to burrow himself into a deep hole and remain stubbornly inside Hogwarts over the Summer holidays. Still, however, his interest and passion for Charms, his favorite subject, was not wilting, even with his lack of friends, and Matthew often found himself studying, almost obsessively, over Charms textbooks and class work, and, even with the holidays approaching, making regular trips to the nearly isolated library at every free moment.
It was no surprise to him then, that, 20 minutes later, he found himself in his favorite spot in the cosy library, looking over his classwork and quietly muttering floating charms and performing the necessary wand movements under the desk. His favorite spot was almost hidden from the rest of the library; located in one of the corners, behind two large bookshelf's, it was rarely noticed by students, as the two bookshelf's were arranged in a way that gave the illusion of being set against walls. As a result, the three large comfy armchairs were rarely sat on or disturbed, and Matthew often found himself keeping spare pits of parchment and revision notes around the place, in the firm belief that he was amongst the small few in Hogwarts that knew about the spot.
After a few hours, Matthew closed his books and stood up, happily pacing around the small hidden corner. Intriguingly, he spotted near him a book with a bright blue cover of which he had never seen before, and, pointing his wand at it, he fired a levitating charm and caught it. Proceeding to investigate it, he found it to be written in what looked like ancient runes. It was then that he heard a shattering thud, as someone on the opposite side of the bookcase sent a book flying into the hidden corner. A flurry of movement, and before Matthew knew it, the boy had found himself into the hidden corner, and stood facing him. “I’m so sorry about that if I scared you.” the boy said, and, with a smile, he introduced himself “I’m Danny by the way, nice to meet you, and who might you be?” Matthew didn't feel afraid of the boy, he looked at least around 14, and yet Matthew was near enough the same height as him. "Oh, hey, honestly its fine, it didn't scare me." Matthew spoke, and, taking up a seat in of the armchairs and sitting nervously cross-legged, he introduced himself. "I'm Matthew by the way, Matthew Dorm, some people call me Wrathis though, sort of a nickname." He spoke, and, looking up from the floor, he grinned. He hoped the boy would like him, Matthew did, admittedly, have near enough no good friends in Hogwarts.

Danny just smiled as the boy introduced himself as Matthew but that some people called him Wrathis, which seemed kind of an odd nick name to Danny but who was he to judge. The name was probably totally normal to whoever gave it to him, he thought to himself as he looked at the boy for a second trying to think if he had seen him before. Danny finally gave up thinking about it, he guessed he had never seen him before which ruled out him being a Gryffindor and he seemed too nice to be a Slytherin. That just left Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw but Danny would find that out later, he supposed. Danny finally remembered the book and bent down to pick it up, he didn't feel like angering the Liberian at the moment.
“Well it's nice to meet you, Wrathis.” Danny said smiling back at him then glanced at the book real quick, it wasn't anything that interesting to Danny. “The history of magically trees.” Danny thought to himself as he looked it over. Danny couldn't believe some of the stuff people wrote books on, it was quite amazing and yet seemed a bit said. Sad that someone would spend their whole life writing about the history of trees. Danny just laughed for a second then realized he must seem weird just laughing to himself. “Sorry about that.” Danny said with a smirk as he looked back to Wrathis.
“I was just thinking about this book.” He said with a small laugh at the end, realizing he still might still have seemed a bit off. “It just seems like an odd topic to spend your whole life working on. The history of trees doesn't seem that worth while to me I guess but maybe someone else might.” Danny said smiling as he placed the book back where it came from and made sure not to make the one on the other side fall down, He didn't need to make the same mistake twice. Danny finally toke the time to realize he had never seen this part of the library, it just didn't seem like anything was there before, yet somehow he had walking right in a second ago when the book fell. It just seemed odd to him.
“I like your little hiding place here.” Danny said with a smirk as he looked around. “I'll try not to tell anyone it's here.” He added laughing looking back to Wrathis then he realized he might be disturbing him, this was a pretty empty spot he might have been studying. “I'm not bothering you am I? I can always go find somewhere else to almost drop books on people, if I am.” Danny asked smiling back at Wrathis.

Well, Matthew thought to himself, at least the boy seemed kind, and he felt grateful that he hadn't clubbed him over the head with the book just for being younger. He laughed as Dannys face broke into a smirk as he examined a book concerning trees. Matthhew shrugged away the observation from Danny about the discreetness of the corner, "Oh, yeah, it's just a quiet place to relax really, you know, when people just start to get too much", and laughing, he nervously rearranged his Charms book, hoping to god that he wasn't making a complete fool of himself.
There were a few brief seconds of silence as Danny looked around the room, and then, politley, asked if he was disturbing him. "Honestly, its ok, i've been studying for the past few hours, bit sad really." Then, grinning, he lifted up his heavy bag, and withdrew a game of wizard chess that his Mum had bought him just before his arrival at Hogwarts, and placed it on the table. "Do you fancy a game?, im not too great at it yet, but it would be cool to have a game with someone?"
He looked up at Danny, who seemed to be looking around the room, perhaps baffled by the discreetness of it. "Im in Ravenclaw by the way, in case you didnt know," and he pointed to the black and blue robes lying lazily over his bag.

“Yeah, I have my own little place I go to when people start to bug me.” Danny said still looking around hoping he might find some book on this side. It seemed to Danny like he had looked at every book in the library that he could, well besides the ones that were locked up but he planned to get a hold of those sometime in his life. Danny didn't see much that stuck out to him just yet but he stopped looking and looked back to Wrathis, it might have seemed rude he guessed if he kept looking at books and talking to Wrathis at the same time. “Anyway I got a tree off by the lake, which i normally climb when I want to get away.” Danny said with a laugh as he looked back to Wrathis. “Well that's my spot at lest.” Danny added with a smirk.
“Well studying isn't that sad, as long as it's something interesting and not about trees or something." Danny said smirking then laughed a little as he watched Wrathis pull out a Wizards chess board from his bag. He honestly hadn't seen a chess board in forever, at lest not since his grandfather was alive. He always played Danny in a game and most of the time let Danny win and he knew it. Danny once made the mistake of telling him to play him for real and Danny lost so bad he almost cried but he was only nine back then. “Sure, I haven't played since my grandpa was.... well I just haven't played in forever, so your not going to have much of a challenge in me.” Danny said with a laugh as he looked around one last time before he went to sit down at the table.
“I had a feeling you were in Ravenclaw or maybe Hufflepuff.” Danny said sitting down and looking at the board. “You seemed too nice for a Slytherin and I know most of the Gryffindors, that left just those two houses.” Danny said laughing as he tried to remember the rules of wizard chess, realizing just how long it had been since he actually had played. “So on a scale of one to ten, how bad am I going to get destroyed?” Danny asked laughing finally looking up to where Wrathis sat.

Matthew couldn't help but breath out deeply; relieved. Danny perhaps didn't see him as totally weird then, as he had just admitted some people have a private and secret place of their own, and told him that studying wasn't sad. Feeling a considerable amount happier, Matthew messed up his hair a little, and looked out of the window, mesmerized by the swirling, wispy clouds, set against their brilliant everlasting blue canvas. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught Danny looking around the room, and, suddenly realized something. Here was a whole new section to the library that he had never entered before, and, most likely, he was imagining what unread books lay around here. He decided to postpone his latest idea, as, in his mind, he flipped through several recommendations, and pictured himself dashing around the hidden corner, pulling books from the shelves, and dumping them on Danny's lap. He thought to himself that perhaps one interesting one would do, and, whilst wondering to himself whether Danny had studied Ancient Runes, his imagination casting back to the bright blue book he had spotted earlier, he proceeded to setup the chess board.
He reddened as Danny revealed that he wasn't a great chess player, and invited Matthew to reveal which level of hammering he was about to receive. Not wanting to admit that he had never actually played the game before, and had only learned the rules and read about the game, he just chortled pleasantly, sitting back in his chair. "Lucky I happened to be carrying around two sets of chess pieces today" Matthew spoke, laughing.
"Erm, random question, but do you study Ancient Runes?, only, there's a book over there, the blue one, on the shelf behind you, that looks interesting, only it's written in runes," Matthew spoke, whilst he reached into his pocket, and took out his wand, firing a levitating charm at an empty glass vase over at the windowsill. To his utter surprise, it worked, and then, perhaps getting a little carried away with himself, he cast it higher and higher into the air, until he lost control of it, and it rocketed over the shelves, landing roughly twenty foot away over the other side with a loud, peircing crash, and a satisfying grunting yell. By the sound of it, it had made contact with a Slytherin's head, and, not wanting Danny to think that he seen this as a good thing, he pulled his hair further down his face, and settled himself in the seat again. "So, you're go first?", Matthew asked, looking at the board.
