It was the first fair day in months. The sky was blue, wisps of white cloud decorating the azure, and the sun shone brightly between them, beams of light falling onto the Hogwarts castle. The snow had melted, leaving a blanket of lush grass waving in the new spring breeze and flowers' heads budding from the earth. Hogwarts was beautiful in winter, but it was just as beautiful in spring. Aurora smiled upon the scenery, hands in jean pockets as she stood by the lake in the grounds. Spring and summer were her preferred seasons, when sunshine was everywhere, dancing across people's lives to put smiles on people's faces. Aurora was glad it had finally arrived and she welcomed it with open arms.
After a few moments of admiration, she turned away from the lake and walked towards the Courtyard, where she would sit and read this afternoon. It was Saturday and students mingled around the castle lazily. Ariane had disappeared - probably flying without permission on the Quidditch pitch, Harmony was with Rex as usual, Lynne and Seth were probably doing something highly amusing, like rampaging around Hogwarts as imaginary animals (the thought made Aurora laugh out loud), and Kael... no doubt he was in the Library or his dorm or the Common Room, or somewhere where he could concentrate on his writing.
And so, upon seeing the sun shining brightly on the other side of her dorm window, Aurora had decided to take her novel outside with her. She didn't want to waste the sunshine! The book swung against her trousers as she walked across the grass. Aurora liked muggle clothing and today she was wearing a pair of comfortable blue jeans and a yellow top with a white cardigan thrown over her shoulders - but she didn't need it, because it was quite warm outside, so Aurora had untied it eventually and wrapped it round her waist. She barely looked a witch, if it were not for the wand sticking out of one pocket.
She took a seat in the Courtyard and began to read. Her feet were propped up on the bench, stretching herself out. If anyone wanted to share it with her she would move, but the Courtyard was not extremely full. A few people passed her, and Aurora smiled and greeted those she knew, but soon she was drawn into the world of her novel. She was reading so avidly she was not at all aware of her surroundings. So, when a bucketful of cold water fell over her, soaking her hair, clothes but luckily missing her book, she jumped in alarm and screamed. "What the--!" The book fell to the floor as she looked up to see an equally surprised girl, empty glass in hand. Aurora's eyes left the culprit's face to stare down at herself: she was completely soaked.
Another glance at the younger girl, whom she didn't recognise much, told Aurora it had been an accident. She began to laugh, shaking her head as her hair glued to her face from the moisture. "I'm okay," she assured the frightened-looking girl, taking her wand out and pointing it at herself. "I'll dry in no time. It's a good thing it was just water. I could be very sticky and sweet right now." A fast spell soon had Aurora dry, for the most part; it was harder when she was wearing the clothes. Then, sticking her wand back in her pocket, she moved to pick up her book. "I'm Aurora," she said to the girl friendlily. "What a way to meet." She laughed. "And you are? I don't think I've spoken to you before." Aurora felt her hair and realised it was still pretty wet. Oh well. It would probably dry out if she sat under the sun long enough.
