Stupid. She was so very stupid. Kellan had been sitting in the Student Lounge working only half heartedly on an essay when something else had taken hold of his attention; messing with a overly annoying girl in his year that was in Ravenclaw. He hated how she was always answering questions in class and getting all types of praise for pretty much everything that she did. For the past half hour he had been thoroughly enjoying preventing her from doing her homework; he had made her quill levitate and zoom around her head, made the ink in her ink jar change colors and sometimes vanish. Of course, with quick, irritated slashes of her wand she was able to set things right almost instantly and then stick her nose right back up in the air indignantly, but it was still fun and much more amusing to continue bothering her than just doing his dumb homework. The door to the Student Lounge opened and Kellan glanced, frowned, and finally left the girl alone, turning to his work but making no attempt to actually complete it. He had just let his thoughts wander, like always, but they didn't wander very far at all.
His cousin had just walked into the lounge and hatred had set in almost immediately. But, it was alright, he told himself. No one knew that the two were even related, which gave him slight solace, but that still wasn't enough to erase his feelings, only pacify them while the two were here at school. But none of that mattered for that exact reason. They were indeed here at Hogwarts. He didn't need to worry about Williard for the time being. The two had and understanding; well, Kellan had made rules and limitations for Williard to abide by, and of course, Will being his normal, peace-loving self, took and followed them without any hesitation; a personality trait Kellan often exploited on numerous occasions whenever he wanted something. So, there was no need to get worked up. Sighing, he leaned back in his chair and ran his forearm across his eyes. He supposed it was getting a little late, and he was kind of tired. He had started but didn't complete any of his homework, and found that he really didn't care to much. He'd just turn in whatever he had so far, and leave it at that. No worries. At least he had something to hand in. He lowered his arm, and his eyes widened in panic, in anger, and almost embarrassment.
Williard was sitting at his table looking at him with an apprehensive look on his face. "What-the-hell-do-you-think-your-doing?" Kellan had begun packing up his things hurriedly. "You know good and well I told you never to talk or be around me here. Ever!" He had spat the words with utmost dislike. Kellan had tried to keep his voice low, but knew that he was well above his normal speaking tone. There were only about four other students in the Student Lounge besides himself and his cousin, but that didn't matter. Everything was set and in order in Kellan's universe. So why was Will disturbing that order now? Their first year had gone by without incident; the two had never even come into any type of contact with one another. It was glorious. And now? Of course Williard had found a way to screw everything up. He always did and probably always would......

The door to the Student lounge was ajar, and Williard had been standing there looking through the narrow gap at his cousin for about ten minutes now. He knew "the rules." He knew his cousin had wanted nothing to do with him while they were here at school, and he had abided by that happily; he would do anything to keep any sort of peace between the two. Though Williard had to admit that he didn't even know what the problem was exactly that had caused Kellan to hate him so much. It had been that way for about four years now if Williard remembered correctly. They were actually really good friends at first, and then everything just stopped. He had tried time and time again to reconcile with Kellan but it was hopeless, and though he didn't exactly want to, he had accepted the fact that his cousin just didn't like him. It had hurt Williard, especially when he had thought of how he would have loved to have had Kellan last school year.
It was their very first year here at Hogwarts and Kellan and his parents didn't even ride with Williard and his parents to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters; mainly because Kellan had flat out refused to get in any car Williard was riding in. He had hoped that getting on the Express for the first time would've been a bonding experience of sorts for the two of them because through all of Kellan's shrugs and rolled eyes, Williard knew that he was just as excited as he was about going to Hogwarts, and he had hoped that his cousin would warm up to him again in the midst of his excitement. The two didn't know anyone that they'd be going to school with, so going in, Williard had hoped he could rely on his cousin for support, but Williard only saw but a glimpse of Kellan on the Hogwarts Express; he had been sitting in a very empty compartment, and Kellan had walked up, glanced in, and had immediately started walking passed, though Williard had tried to plea to Kellan with his eyes to sit with him for the short time that they had held each other's gaze. But Williard had rode the Express for the first time alone, no one to share it with, no one to talk excitedly to.
When they had gotten to the Sorting Ceremony, every part of Williard hoped that they would end up in the same House, but Kellan had gotten Hufflepuff, Williard got Ravenclaw, and that was it. If it weren't for Skyler, Williard didn't know what he would've done or how he would've gotten by. But Skyler wasn't here and Williard hadn't really made any new friends. He had joined his House Quidditch Team, but he didn't really hang out with any of them because most of them were upperclassmen. Though he had spoken to Woodrow from time to time, he really couldn't see himself becoming good friends with him, but then again, he doubted he could predict anything at this school.
Taking a deep breath, Williard walked in and over toward Kellan's table, who had immediately ceased bothering a girl and started packing his things. Williard sighed and sat down, hesitant.
"What-the-hell-do-you-think-your-doing? You know good and well I told you never to talk or be around me here. Ever!"
Williard didn't know what to say. He obviously knew what he wanted to say, but he couldn't say it. Kellan was almost done shoving his things carelessly into his school bag, and Williard somehow spoke. "I just wanted to talk to you. Did you know that the Vice Captain of the Slytherin Quidditch Team's last name was Caoimhe?"

Kellan had just finished shoving his essay into his bag and stopped after Williard had finished speaking. "Are you serious? His last name is Caoimhe? So freaking what Williard, leave me alone!" He had spoken through gritted teeth trying to keep his voice low. Part of him had assumed that whatever Williard had to say to him must have held some form of importance, but to violate Kellan's wishes all because some idiot in Slytherin had the same last name as his? He was so angry he could've hit Will over the head with his bag repeatedly for being so darn stupid, but he settled for cutting him a hateful look and then getting up and walking out, somehwhat slamming the lounge door behind him. He was half way down the hall when he had heard the door open and footsteps coming his way. Kellan wheeled around. "Williard, I swear! If you don't-"
It wasn't Williard. It was Jessica Herling, the girl that he had been picking at. Her curly brown hair bouncing, her green eyes narrowed. "And what is it that you want?" A smile crept up on his face before he could stop it, but Jessica didn't seem like she would follow suit.
"Listen, and listen good Kellan." She grabbed the front of his robes and with surprising strength, she threw him up against the stone wall, his head hitting it all but gently. She definitely had his attention. "The next time you decide to do what you just did, your going to see a side of me I promise you won't like. And if you do decide to test me, I'm sure my brother would be able to straighten you out for me." She looked him up and down. "What's left of you anyway."
"Oh really?" Kellan smiled and pushed her hands free from the front of his robes. "I think I'd like to see that side of you that I won't like. 'Cause if your indicating that your brother is worse, then that doesn't really leave me with much to fear now does it?"
"And what exactly are you trying to say?" She crossed her arms and leaned to one side.
"Oh nothing. Just....your brother is a bit of a wuss."
Kellan had reached into his pockets, and after a little fumbling, he had finally drew it. Jessica had already had her wand out and pointed directly at his face, so if this was a real life duel, he would have no doubt lost. Kellan knew of Jessica's older brother Gus. He was a sixth year Ravenclaw and actually, he was everything but a wuss. He could rip Kellan clean in half, but he didn't care. He just wanted to make her mad, which he clearly did.
"Take that back. Now!" She was so angry her weilding arm was shaking.
"I don't think I will." Kellan smiled, and even winked. Her face went red. He could tell she was thinking about hexing him, but of course, her being a proper Ravenclaw, she was afraid of rule breaking and knew the consequences of unauthorized dueling and the use of magic in the corridors. "What's wrong Jessica? Scared?" Kellan laughed. He had her right where he wanted her.

"Are you serious? His last name is Caoimhe?"
Will nodded his head, but no sooner than he did Kellan spoke through clenched teeth angrily.
"So freaking what Williard, leave me alone!"
He could see the hate in his cousin's look as he got up from the table and stormed out. Williard closed his eyes and sighed deeply and heavily. Things were only going to get worse from here, that is, if Kellan could think of anything worse that could be done to their nonexistent relationship. He now felt so entirely stupid and foolish for even thinking or considering that Kellan would actually care about something like this, or find it even remotely interesting. But his thoughts were interrupted by a pat on his shoulder and a familiar, sweet smell had caught his nose. Jessica Herling, a girl in his House and Year, walked passed him and out of the door, but not before flashing Williard a smile which he returned.
Jessica was a good girl, Williard supposed, and she was always very nice to him. Actually, he was about the only boy she was ever really nice too. Everyone else thought her quite arrogant and snobbish, but they hadn't seen the side of her that Williard had. Sure she had plenty of attitude, but that only came out if you crossed her.
Crossed her?
Williard remembered what he had been standing in the doorway watching only just a few minutes ago, and quickly ran to the Student Lounge door and whipped it open. He looked both ways down the corridor and saw what he really didn't want to see; both Kellan and Jessica had their wands out pointing them at each other; Jessica red-faced, Kellan smirking. "Jessica no!" Williard ran down the hall and stood in front of her blocking her view of Kellan. "Jessica it's really not worth it, I promise you."
"Williard move!" Jessica had shouted. "This great prat-"
"It's late," Williard interrupted. If he knew his cousin, he knew Kellan had probably said something to make her angry and understood why she probably wanted to curse the living daylights out of him; Kellan had a gift for pushing just the right buttons. But that was something that didn't need to happen. "Why don't we walk back up to the Common Room, huh? We have class early tomorrow. Remember?"
"Of course I remember!" Jessica tapped her foot, thinking. "Okay. Let me go and get my things. And Kellan," she said looking over Williard, "This isn't over. My brother will hear about this."
She turned on her heel and walked back into the Student Lounge. Williard wheeled around. "What is wrong with you Kellan? Gus Herling could probably break every bone in your body. Why do you pick on her all the time?"

Kellan's smirk quickly vanished and was replaced with a narrow eyed scowl as Williard had come running down the corridor and then jumping in front of Jessica, blocking her. Though his target was now covered, Kellan still hadn't lowered his wand and was almost painfully fighting temptation. Oh what he would give to shoot a hex right at the back of Williard's stupid, great head. Cowardly, he knew it, but he didn't care. What the heck was wrong with Will tonight? This was the second time within ten minutes that he had intruded on Kellan, and had done so intentionally at that. It felt like forever as he waited for Jessica to go back into the Student Lounge, but not before she threatened him which he responded to with a smile and a wink. Once she was gone, Williard rounded on Kellan who still had his wand at the ready. His words were lost on Kellan's ears, and in a spout of anger, Kellan lunged forward and pushed Williard. Hard.
"I don't know what the hell is wrong with you but hear me when I say this." Kellan was shaking with anger. "I don't want anything to do with you Williard! No one asked you to come out here and meddle in my business. My business Williard, not yours. I don't care about anything that you have to say, I don't care about you period." Kellan had supposed that Will was going through that phase again. Occassionally, Williard would try and "reach out" to Kellan, like he could suddenly make things better. "I'm only going to say this one more time Willie. Stay away from me." With that, Kellan turned and walked determinedly to the Hufflepuff Common Room. Why did his cousin have to be so hard headed?

Williard just layed there, breathing hard, sprawled in the floor staring after his cousin, very surprised he had been pushed. Kellan had actually shoved him down onto the floor. Williard knew Kellan didn't like him, but now everything felt.....new. Like Kellan had taken everything to an entirely different level. This was the first time Kellan had actually used physical violence to convey how much he hated Williard, and it hurt, and he didn't think that he could put into words just how hurt he had indeed felt. Not physically, but.......mentally.....emotionally. He had never experienced anything like that in his life; where someone disliked him so much that they thought to actually physically harm him, and Williard couldn't take it. Tears came to his eyes, welled up but didn't fall, and he didn't stop them. He got up off of the floor still staring down the corridor from which Kellan was now gone, and the door to the Student Lounge opened, Jessica standing in the doorway talking to a friend. Williard quickly ran down the hall and hid behind a corner.
"Goodnight guys. Williard?"
A tear had fallen down his cheek and he wiped it away and said nothing.
"Williard, are you there?"
He heard her sigh, and then he heard footsteps. She was walking back to the Common Room alone. He slid down the wall and fell to the floor feeling so guilty he could barf. It was his fault. None of this would have happened if he had only stayed away from Kellan like he had wanted. He had brought this on himself. He had provoked him into pushing him, and so, he supposed he got what he deserved. It hurt, but it was what was he deserved. Williard of all people knew that if you broke the rules then there were consequences. He broke a rule, and so his consequence was now things with his cousin were worse than ever. He couldn't be mad at Kellan. He just couldn't bring himself to blame him for his own stupidity.
