Post by Professor Filius Flitwick on Mar 1, 2009 22:36:16 GMT
Flitwick entered the classroom late that day, only to be greeted by a class full of loud young students. He had been held up in a meeting that had overrun that lunchtime, and had gone straight to the classroom as quickly as he could. He was still late, but at least he didn’t need any equipment for this lesson. Or the first part, at least. The class would be studying cheering charms today, something that was rather tricky and often came up in the OWL exams. The first years would probably struggle, but it was never too early to start teaching harder stuff. And it would be very useful for the third years who would be starting their OWLs in just a few short months.
He went to the front of the room, stood on the pile of books behind his desks and clapped his hands to get the attention of the students, some of which he was sure hadn’t noticed him entering. Well, his short stature didn’t help! But the loud clap got everyone’s attention, and soon he was able to start the class. He pointed at the backboard, levitated the chalk, and remotely wrote “CHEERING CHARMS” on it. To new students this was often simply fascinating, to more experienced, older ones, it was just a regular occurrence.
“Good afternoon, students!” he smiled as he had everyone’s attention, “today we shall be starting a new topic, as you should have already noticed!” he pointed over to the blackboard “Cheering charms! Yes, the charms you cast when yourself or, indeed, anyone else is feeling down, just to cheer them up!” He was greeted with enthusiasm from some students, and utter horror from some of the others, but at least this charm was one of the perhaps more useful ones, if that was possible. “Now, cheering charms are very tricky if you’re not all that familiar with them, so I’d like to demonstrate it to you first. But for that I need a volunteer to experiment on. Now, who wants to be cheered up?”
A sea of hands flew up, and Flitwick chose someone sitting near the middle, who was looking a bit down, for some reason. He made them come to the front of the room as an assistant to allow him to show the rest of the class. He hoped it would work and hence they would cheer up, for 2 reasons. One, he wanted to prove how the charm worked, and two, he never liked to see an unhappy student.
((First person to reply is that person, then I’ll post again with the details. Others can post meantime just watching and waiting for their task. And sorry for the long delay!)).

It was a pleasant morning. Ashanya woke up early that day. Perhaps, 'early' for her. She was having intense headache since last night. When she looked up, the clock was showing twelve of noon. For a moment, she was shocked. It was getting late for the class. It was Charms Beginners by Professor Flitwick. Without wasting a second, quickly she wore the robe, carried the books with her & hurriedly, ran toward the class.
Approximately after a minute, she was on the entrance of the class. Gasping, she stepped into the room. Students of first to third year were sitting there. Some were quiet, some were shouting a lot. That was only because professor was late for the class. She thanked God, because she was not too late. Some students were still coming.
She found a seat near the middle of professor's table. It was strange why that seat was not taken by anyone. Well, that question was not her 'cup of tea' to think on it! So, she grabbed it & sat down, waiting for professor.
After a while, she found a short stature stepping into the class. Yes, it was professor Flitwick. She stood up for wishing him good morning. But, few of them were still 'entangled' in their gossips, probably the gossips were more important for them, not the teacher.
Professor clapped aloud. Then rest of them paid attention. Ashanya sat down. Professor wished them 'Good Morning' cheerfully. Then introduced to Cheering Charms. It sounded good-"Cheering Charms"- like a delightful magic! Then he intended for a volunteer to perform it. Many of them were willing & raised hands. Ashanya, who was most interested, didn't raise hand. Reason, she was not in the mood of rejoicing. Nobody knew why. She herself not. Certainly, that 'cheerful' magic would have suitable for her mood!
Kept on looking down to her book, unexpectedly, she was chosen by the teacher. Professor Filius asked her to come to the front of the room as his assistant. She didn't forbid & quickly, went to him..

Post by Williard Thoth R4 on May 22, 2009 3:36:37 GMT
Williard tapped his wand lightly on his desk while biting his lower lip. It wasn't like Professor Flitwick to be late. But, he had supposed he must have a good reason; he knew his Head of House to be a very responsible, punctual man. So, something must have came up an hindered him. But, no sooner than Williard had sat back in his chair did Professor Flitwick walk hurriedly in the door and up to his desk. Once perched on top of his large stack of books, he charmed a piece of chalk and wrote "Cheering Charms" on the board, a spell Williard quite honestly didn't mind learning at the moment.
He wasn't depressed; he was sure of that. But he knew very well that he was unhappy and that he couldn't really remember ever feeling the way that he did now. When he had written his mother she had attributed his feelings to him "getting older," becoming a teenager. But Williard had felt like there was something else going on, and something he couldn't exactly pinpoint either.
When Professor Flitwick had asked for a little demonstration, Williard hesitated; it would be quite embarrassing to go up there. It was almost like admitting that you had problems to the whole entire class, and he didn't want people to know that he had been down in the dumps; that was his personal business. But his thoughts were soon interrupted by Ashanya, a girl in his House, though one year ahead of him, who had walked happily up to the front. Williard had met Ashanya once, and he still didn't know how he had felt about her. She seemed nice, but still. Shaking his head, he sat back and waited for what would happen next.

Zoey relaxed in her seat, waiting for Professor Flitwick to arrive and start the class. She was eager to learn today, hearing that's we may be learning new material. She taped her foot quietly against the darks floor, glancing around here and there. She often stared at the large stacks of untidy books along every wall she could see, or at the messy chalkboard, smeared from the constant writing and erasing as the classes went on through out the day. She took her hand and swept her charcoal semi-wavy bangs out of her now aquamarine-hazel eyes. Her eyes seemed to change colors according to her mood. The more greener they got, the worst she was feeling, and the more blue they got, the better she was feeling. She was starting to get impatient until the short Professor Flitwick arrived.Zoey's back straightened a tad as she started to focus on the short professor.
She didn't mind his height, she just found it annoying when the first years awed at how short he was, and she especially hated it when he'd walk behind something while lecturing on how to cast certain charms. The she couldn't see his face and she'd become less enthusiastic and focused. She smiled a sweet, quick smile to greet him as usual before she got out her wand. She rolled it on the desk sub-consciously while waiting to find out the new material.
Her eyes followed the floating chalk across the board as she put together the letters in her hand. Cheering Charms. She never heard of those, but it just made her more anticipated to find out what they were, how to cast them, and the outcome. One of them was answer right away as Professor Flitwick explained the purpose of the charm. She smiled as he asked the students if they wanted to be cheered. She especially liked how he had always seemed to try and make the class more involved and enjoyable by doing simple things like that. Her hand, as well as many others, shot up into the air in the excitement of learning new spells. Spells were one of the few things that made kids and teenagers actually excited to learn.

Post by Jeremy Waters R1 on Jun 21, 2009 19:56:25 GMT
Jeremy walked along the bustling corridors of Hogwarts on his way to his Charms class. His black and blue robes swished around his feet while he held his bag of books on his shoulder. The bag held all of his books for the day and almost weighed as much as he did. Turning a corner he almost tipped over as the bag weighed him down. Playing off his stumble he continued to quickly walk to his class. As he walked he saw another first year he had a class with and waved to her smiling. He was in a good mood today for some reason and couldn't wait to do some magic. Turning into the classroom Jeremy noticed that he was pretty early and there were only 2 other people there at that point. Picking a seat in the front row he walked over to it and sat down. Pushing his hair out of his eyes he dropped his bag next to him and reached in and pulled out his charms book. He always liked to read while waiting for teachers to get to class. Opening his book up he began to twirl his wand in his fingers like he always did and read to himself.
Ten minutes passed and the classroom slowly began to fill up around Jeremy. Looking up from his book every now and then he noticed familiar faces but did not stop reading to talk. A few more minutes went by and he noticed that Professor Flitwick was late. Just as he thought this the professor walked through the door. Closing his book he put his wand down on top of it and listened carefully to Flitwick. As he watched the chalk spell out cheering charms on the board and Jeremy smiled as he remembered reading about them the other day. He was excited to learn something new and eager to begin. When Flitwick asked for volunteers Jeremy did not raise his hand. He didn't like to draw to much attention to himself so he never volunteered much. Finally someone was chosen and Jeremy noticed her as a fellow Ravenclaw. She was in her third year though and Jeremy had never talked to her before. He watched eagerly as he waited to see the spell performed.
