Olivia scowled as she stared into the fire. She couldn’t believe what she had gotten herself into. Why did she have to get caught with her cigarettes right in front of Professor McGonagall? Olivia now had an even more intense dislike for the woman than she did before. If McGonagall hadn’t caught her smoking out in the courtyard, her mother would have never needed to come down to the school and save Olivia from getting suspended for a month like McGonagall had originally intended. It was surprisingly kind of Laura to do such a thing as help her own daughter, but Olivia now knew why she did it. Fredrick Pullman was probably one of the richest old men in all of the United Kingdom. Every year, he threw a massive party for only the richest and purest of all wizarding families. She sighed. The last time Olivia had attended Pullman’s Annual Ball was when she was twelve. After that, her mother didn’t want any kind of relation to her. She made up an excuse for Olivia’s absence every year. She was never strong enough to flat out say Olivia had refused to go, so she lied instead. What a typical Laura Dawson thing to do. She sighed, glancing at her little sister Elle, who looked very nervous but very excited at the same time. Elle went to Pullman’s parties every year, but since she was thirteen now, this would be the first year she’d be arriving with a date. She was almost ready to go, and the carriage would be arriving to pick Olivia and her siblings in a matter of minutes. Olivia was dressed in her Slytherin robes at the moment, but there was a rucksack on the floor that held her evening dress and overnight belongings. Olivia would be staying at Faith Ellison’s house overnight, but until that glorious moment where Olivia got to take off into the night, she would just have to deal with Pullman’s stupid Birthday Ball.
Olivia sighed as Elle glanced at the clock. Brian was already in the carriage since he wanted to get there first. “Liva, it’s time to go. The carriages will be leaving soon. Mum will be really angry if we’re late.” Elle said, knowing Olivia honestly didn’t care what Laura thought. Olivia got up and hauled her bag over her shoulder. She and Elle walked hand in hand to the carriages silently. Once she arrived, she noticed there was one more person in the carriage Olivia and Elle were sitting in. Wynd Lehane, a Slytherin she had met on the train to Hogwarts was sitting just across from Olivia and Elle. Olivia gave the boy a quick glare, but otherwise, she ignored him completely. “Mum’s waiting at the Three Broomsticks. She’s rented a home nearby for the weekend so we can change for later.” Elle said, ignoring Lehane. Elle could obviously tell there was some tension between the two fifth years, but she didn’t say anything about it. Olivia smiled warmly down at her. “Come on Elle, you don’t actually think I’m going to spend more than two seconds with that madwoman. I’m meeting you all there.” Elle’s glowing expression dampened but she shrugged it off. As the carriage arrived in Hogsmeade, Olivia walked out with Elle, leaving Lehane in the carriage without as much as a glance of acknowledgement. She and Elle went their separate ways as Olivia went to Faith’s house to change. In a way, Faith’s place was a bit like Olivia’s home away from home. She had her own key and her own room there and everything. They key was a very gracious gift, and Olivia couldn’t thank Faith enough for it.
Olivia unlocked the door and went up to her room. No one was home, but Olivia was sure Juliet would be passed out on the couch by the time Olivia returned home. Juliet had also received a key to the house. As Olivia changed into her beautiful emerald green dress and curled her jet black hair to perfection. She wore long dangling earrings and a beautiful diamond necklace. Her lips were a bright shade of red as always and her eyes were silver and black. Olivia glanced at the mirror for about a second and left the house without another word.
When she arrived at the ball, she was surprised to see so many people there. The people ranged from newborn children to people as old as Fredrick Pullman himself. She sighed and looked for the Dawsons. Once she found them, she saw her mother’s look of pure relief. Olivia approached them and her mother gave her a creepy bright smile. Olivia almost found it weird that she was being so kind. But then she realized Laura was surrounded by her Ministry co-workers. “Hello Laura. What, you were worried I wouldn’t show?” Olivia said in a noticeably loud voice. Laura’s eyes widened as people gave Olivia suspicious looks. “Kids just say the most surprising things.” Laura said nervously with an embarrassed smile. “Don’t call me Laura in public young lady.” Laura whispered so no one but Olivia could here. “Olivia, I wanted to introduce you to your date for the night.” Laura said politely, resuming her normal tone. She lead Olivia over to two people. She couldn’t see them from far away, but they looked almost exactly alike. “Olivia, this is Wynd Lehane. He goes to your school. I believe you know each other already?” Laura said polietely, ignoring the daggers Olivia was sending to her mother with her eyes. She couldn't believe it. Her mother had set her up with Wynd Lehane. Olivia was absolutely nauseated at the mere sight of the Lehane, but now she had to spend an entire night with him? Olivia tried her best to smile sweetly, knowing her mother was watching her suspiciously from the corner of her eye. If Olivia did anything to ruin Laura's spotless image, Olivia would definitely pay the price the second they left. She looked back at Wynd and his father. Wynd didn't look too happy about the situation either. Her mother placed a thin manicured hand on Olivia's shoulder, her nails digging into her shoulder. It was almost a warning to Olivia to behave. She sighed as the parents walked away happily together, talking and laughing. "Lehane," Olivia said stiffly, avoiding Wynd's eyes completely. She repressed the urge to sigh heavily. This was going to be a long night.

Tonight was a night that Wynd had been dreading for a while now. Which was too bad. He usually enjoyed the time that he spent at Pullman's Annual Ball. Ruby and he would go together and they would laugh at the other wizards' and witches' clothing. Wynd enjoyed to dance so he would usually have a few dances with Ruby and then dance with a young girl just to make her happy. Only the richest and purest families of the United Kingdom were allowed to attend. That's also why Wynd enjoyed the Ball. It was nice to remove himself from the "school" that was Hogwarts. It was a good feeling to once again breathe air that was shared with other true wizard families. Every now and again it was good to be away from the half breeds and mudbloods that littered the corridors of the castle. Wynd knew that only at Pullman's Ball would he be surrounded by people who felt and thought like him. It was an event that he usually looked forward to attending. Usually.
Tonight however was going to be different. Tonight Ruby was attending the Ball with Valmer. Valmer was attending the Ball with Ruby. That meant that Wynd would be attending the Ball alone. Or, at least, that's what he thought he would be doing. But his father had sent him an owl just yesterday informing him that if Ruby was to have a date for the Ball than his father would find his son a date for the evening. A date? His father was going to find his sixteen year old son a date for Pullman's Annual Ball? His father had not been on a date since their mother was taken by the enemy. And he had been totally faithful to her. But, didn't that mean that he was a little out of the loop when it came to love? Plus how could he possibly know what kind of girls Wynd liked? He couldn't. Wynd was not looking forward to the night. He wanted to say to his father that he was not going to go, but Wynd knew that to refuse to go to the Ball was seen as blasphemy in some families eyes. No, he couldn't do that.
Wynd got ready in the room that he shared with the other Slytherin boys. He vaguely wondered if they would have been invited to the Ball this year but the thought didn't really interest him. He had to spend enough time with them. A little time away from his roommates wouldn't be bad. The only person that he would probably see there would be Valmer. He pushed the thought from his mind but was soon reminded of the night when Valmer and he talked when Wynd threw the same cloak over him that he used to cover his naked form. It was a perfect cloak. It hid his dress robes from view so that anyone looking at him would think that he was just going out for the night. They would have no idea what he was going to do and where he was going. Wynd made his way to the carriages that would take him to Hogsmeade where he would meet his father and also his "date."
Waiting for the carriage to start moving, some other people climbed aboard. One of those people was Olivia Dawson. She obviously didn't want to talk with him. That suited him just fine. He didn't want to talk with her. He kept his eyes away from her and apparently, her little sister. Or maybe it was just her friend. He could care less. She was dressed in her Slytherin robes so she obviously was not going to the Ball. The carriage ride seemed to last for ages as and every moment the tension seemed to grow until it seemed like it was going to burst. Finally, they arrived in Hogsmeade. Wynd left the carriage and went to find his father. He didn't glance back to see what she was going to do. He didn't care. Finding his father, they greeted each other and set off for the Ball.
There were many people there and his father explained that Ruby and Valmer were going to find their own way to the Ball and they would probably see them later. Wynd tried his best to hide his feelings of dislike but he was sure that his father saw them. The Ball was packed with people. All pure wizarding families. Wynd was right at home. Just then a woman came over to his father and exchanged a few words. Wynd swallowed as he realised that he would soon get to see his date. He hoped she was pretty. He brushed the sleeve his black velvet dress robe and straightened the emerald green bow tie that he was wearing. The girl he was going to be with tonight was... Dawson! Wynd's eye's grew wide and he was about to protest in disgust when he saw that his father had disappeared along with Olivia's mother. Wynd looked Olivia up and down. She was wearing a beautiful emerald dress that showed off her figure. Of course, Wynd would not admit that to her. "Olivia," he responded just as stiffly. "I guess, you're my date. Wonderful," he stated flatly. What an awful start to the night.

Olivia grimaced at the sight of Wynd Lehane. He and his sister had a knack for simply aggravating Olivia by just being there. Olivia had returned the favor by simply doing the same to them. She had the talent for making them more annoyed just by being there. Then came the fun part. Olivia stifled an evil grin. If Laura was going to make Olivia’s life hell, then so would she. Payback was always fun, especially when it involved seeking revenge over more than one person at a time. She noticed Laura approaching Olivia and Wynd, smiling in a creepy manner. Olivia wasn’t used to seeing this side of Laura. Whenever she would normally approach Olivia, she’d have a cold hearted glare or a bored expression on her face. She’d never smile, not even in the slightest. But here, Laura Dawson was all smiles.
Olivia sighed heavily as Laura approached Olivia placed a bony pale hand on her shoulder. Olivia once again felt the woman’s long red finger nails dig deep into Olivia’s shoulder, leaving red marks. Olivia couldn’t wait for someone to ask where the marks had come from. She’d be perfectly honest and tell them that her mother had created them. That wasn’t all either. Laura had been abusing Olivia both physically and mentally for years. There was that little magical battle during Olivia’s fourth year, and the many small times in between when Laura would simply slap Olivia across the face simply because she felt like it. Olivia didn’t bother wincing in pain as Laura’s nails made deep imprints in her skin. She didn’t care. It didn’t hurt much. The hand on Olivia’s shoulder was merely just a reminder that Laura was watching over her, making sure she didn’t screw up. Laura could attempt to beat Olivia up all she wanted. She would take the pain just to have a bit of fun here tonight, if that was even possible.
“Wynd Lehane. My, have you gotten so big! I remember seeing you and your sister so many years ago when you were just children. I told your father Olivia would be absolutely perfect for you. And now, here you two are so many years later. You see, Olivia! I told you he was handsome!” Laura exclaimed fondly. Olivia merely rolled her eyes at Laura’s false sweetness. “Well what are you doing just standing there? Go dance and have a good time!” Olivia sighed and gave her mother the coldest death stare imaginable. “Go, Olivia. Don’t you dare make a fool of me tonight, you ungrateful little brat.” Laura spat in a low malicious whisper. Laura was never good at keeping her voice down, so she was sure Wynd had heard her words. Olivia rolled her eyes and bit her tongue, hoping it would stop her from lashing out right in front of the annoying woman. “Wouldn’t dream of it, Mother.” Olivia whispered back with her classic sarcastic and bitter tone. Laura turned to Wynd and smiled before walking away again.
“Well you heard the madwoman, we have to dance.” Olivia rolled her eyes and held out her hands gingerly. Olivia could think of about a million places she’d rather be than here. She glanced over at her sister, who was dancing happily with a cute little boy Olivia had recognized as a third year Ravenclaw like herself. Olivia knew Laura. She was smart and cunning. When she liked you, she could be of great use. Just looking at the star-struck look in Elle’s eyes, Olivia could tell Laura had spent a lot of time picking out the perfect date for little Elle. Olivia could be sure Laura had spent just as much time if not more picking out Olivia’s date, only Laura strived to make sure Olivia would be miserable the entire night. Oh, how she would pay for this.

Wynd just smiled politely as Olivia's mother talked about watching him grow up. Wynd tried his best to forget his childhood so in all honesty, Wynd only remembered seeing her twice in his life. One was at the trial of his mother and the other was for one of the twins' birthday. Wynd was sure they were other times when she was around, but he really to his best to block memories from his childhood. "Why thank you, Ms. Dawson," Wynd responded to her compliment. Wynd saw Olivia rolling her eyes and added, "And might I say Ms. Dawson, that you look absolutely stunning tonight." Wynd thought that might get under Olivia's skin. They might have to spend the evening together, but that didn't mean that he had to be nice to her. Wynd casually looked the other way as Olivia's mother whispered something in her ear. He was rather surprised that he could hear every single word as if this woman never quite understood the concept of whispering. He pretended to be fascinated by a piece of artwork on the wall as the woman threatened Olivia. Actually, the artwork was quite boring. It was a portrait of Fredrick Pullman. Although the painter must have done something wrong while painting for the Fredrick in the painting seemed to be sniffling all the time as if the painter had painted him with a runny nose. The two ladies exchanged "pleasantries" and the older women turned to Wynd and smiled before leaving. Wynd tried his hardest not to roll his eyes as she left.
"Well you heard the madwoman, we have to dance." Olivia rolled her eyes and held out her hands gingerly. Wynd looked at her hand as if deciding whether or not to take it. He watched Olivia glance over at another girl who seemed to share some physical traits of Olivia and so Wynd assumed that the two were related. The other girl seemed to be having a marvelous time. Since none of them were wearing their school outfits, it was hard to determine which house they belonged to. He was sure that the girl was not part of Slytherin. But at least Wynd knew that she came from a pure family. She wouldn't be here if she was not. Wynd didn't recognise the boy she was with either. He would find out. If they weren't part of Slytherin they could be extremely useful. They could reach the other houses. Wynd made a mental note to find out about them later that night or at least mention it to Ruby so she could do some detective work. Wynd brought his attention back to Olivia and her outstretched hand. "Isn't it usually the gentlemen who asks the lady to dance? Either way." He took her hand in his and lead her toward the dance floor. He tried his best not to hurt her. Although he was not fond of her, he was still a gentlemen and she was a lady. Those society classes would not be forgotten, no matter how much he tried. Finding a place on the floor, Wynd turned back to Olivia and bowed slightly. He really was hating those classes now.
He then took her hand in one of his and put his other hand on the small of her back. This brought the two of them physically closer than he could ever remember them being. When he was this close to her he started to notice little things that he hadn't before. She really did smell quite nice. And it seemed like she had spent some time on her hair getting it to curl just right. This close, her emerald dress seemed to shine. She really looked very nice tonight. Well, for Olivia. Most of the time, when students did not have to be in their uniforms, Olivia could be found in muggle clothes. But now in this nice dress, she looked, well, pretty. There was no denying it. Wynd could dislike Olivia as a person, but there was no getting out of saying that she was a very physically attractive girl. With the music, Wynd started to lead Olivia in a waltz. One-two-three one-two-three. Just something else that he had learned in those bloody society classes. Wynd wondered if Olivia had to take those when she was younger. Most pure blood families make their children go through the classes. It would be no surprise to Wynd if she had. Wynd tried his best to look other places besides straight into her eyes, but when you are this close to someone, it is hard to look anywhere else. "Nice weather we're having," he finally said to her to break the silence.

It was like Wynd Lehane had two sides to him. There was the bitter, pureblood, power hungry man that stripped in the middle of the Hogwarts Express, and there was of course the Wynd that was standing next to her. He actually seemed somewhat polite when her mother addressed him. And then there was that one thing Olivia just couldn’t bring herself to doubt. Wynd did look absolutely dashing tonight. He may have been the biggest most annoying pain in the neck Olivia had ever seen, but he sure looked good doing it. What the hell are you thinking, Olivia? Olivia thought to herself, disgusted by her own thoughts. Wynd Lehane was not hot in any way imaginable. He was a Lehane after all. Anyone that had any relation to the Lehanes were absolute freaks. They were rude and had some sort of weird God-complex that made them all think they lived on Mount Olympus or something. Olivia sighed slightly, still sending icy cold glares toward her mother, who obviously knew somehow that Olivia had some sort of burning hate for Wynd Lehane.
It was almost scary how Laura could do things like that. She was able to magically cast away her cigarettes just when Olivia needed them most. She knew how to bend the situation so no matter what, Olivia suffered in the end. Olivia didn’t know how, but somehow she thought Laura had spent a lot of time picking out the perfect date that would surely drive Olivia mad the entire night. I wonder what time this thing’s over. Pullman’s Ball is already turning into a snooze fest…” As Olivia was getting lost in her own thoughts, she suddenly realized her mother was talking to her; or rather, scolding her. “Olivia, stand up straight. You look like such a filthy little mudblood the way you’re standing. Stand like the pureblood witch you were born to be, child.”Laura hissed in Olivia’s ear.
When Olivia asked Wynd to dance, (a task that had taken much of her will power to do) he took her hand and the two took a spot on the dance floor. She noticed Wynd follow her line of vision as his eyes landed on Olivia’s younger sister Elle. Elle looked quite similar to Olivia, which was something that had always gotten under Laura’s skin. Elle had darker hair than Olivia, but everything else was the same. Elle had a few dark freckles scattered around her face, but they made her look absolutely adorable. She was really growing up, wasn’t she? Olivia knew that once boys were involved, (with the exception of Lehane) even the most tedious of things like Pullman’s ball can turn out to be the best time of their life. Things just went like that when you were thirteen. Olivia smiled as Elle glanced at her and offered her a warm smile. Unlike most of Olivia’s cheeky smirks, this smile was genuine and pure and made Olivia swell up with happiness just by seeing her little sister having such a great time on the dance floor.
It was weird that Wynd took so much interest at the sight of her sister, but she didn’t dwell on it for too long because at that moment, Wynd’s hands were starting to travel to the small of her back, sending a slight chill up her spine. “Of course, but I’ve never been one to play by the rules, you know that.” Olivia said, her expression returning to that of that cheeky (and slightly defensive) smirk. It was obvious that Wynd was skilled at being a gentleman, but she wasn’t surprise. Surely he too had attended those redundant and bluntly annoying etiquette classes when they were younger. Olivia had attended these classes as well, but she wasn’t exactly the most well behaved of students. She had learned what was needed to be a lady, but her etiquette professor had received a permanent migraine in the process. At Wynd’s little small talk type comment, Olivia merely smirked wider and chuckled. She’d always hated small talk. It was pointless and frankly it was annoying. “It’s raining, Lehane.” Olivia said as she and Wynd danced. It was at this point that she realized just how close they were. She could already smell the manly cologne that he had probably spritzed on his neck just hours before arriving. As if their lack of distance wasn’t enough to make the situation completely awkward, Wynd’s blue orbs were staring point blank right into her eyes. Olivia’s smirk did not falter, nor did she appear to look uncomfortable in any way. But that didn’t change the fact that as time slowly passed, Olivia found herself waiting until the moment she was allowed to leave.

((OOC: Sorry it took me so long))
Song after song they danced and danced. Every turn, Wynd looked out at the crowd to see whether or not their parents were still watching. Sure enough, Wynd could see both their parents watching them the entire time. Wynd could only guess as to what Olivia's mother's intentions were for the evening, but he knew what his father's intentions were. William Lehane was never secret with his thoughts and hopes. Ever since that day that their mother and his wife was ripped from them and taken to Azkaban, William has been trying to make the twins' future. Ruby had been and always will be closer to their grandmother than her own father so therefore William put a lot of effort into Wynd's future. William was the one that pushed for the twins to take those damned etiquette classes were they were younger because that is what their mother would have done. And ever since Wynd turned twelve, William has introduced him to every girl that he thought suitable. It was almost like his father had become Wynd's mother in addition to being his father. Whenever Wynd would approach his father and tell him that he did not appreciate being told what to do, his father would get such a look of sadness and purposelessness that Wynd would feel such guilt that he would let his father continue with his crazy schemes.
His latest scheme: Set Wynd up with Olivia. But what his father had neglected to find out was just because Olivia came from a pureblood family did not mean that she held the same pureblood beliefs. Wynd could not understand what she saw in muggles. As far as Wynd was concerned, muggles were inferior beings that most wizards felt they had to bend over backwards for. But why? According to Darwin, a great wizard, the strong survive. The magical community was obviously stronger than the muggle community and yet the magical community hid in dark shadows like roaches. It was sickening. That is why one day, when Ruby and he took over, there would be no more hiding. Wynd was sure that there were muggles out there that would align themselves with power. And Ruby and he had it. That would be a glorious day indeed. Then people like Olivia would beg Wynd for mercy. She would claim that she saw the error of her ways but it would be too late. Wynd had already judged her.
Wynd was torn from his thoughts as a song ended. "Shall we get a drink?" he said to Olivia. It was not a suggestion as much as it was a command. He was tired of dancing and trying to keep up appearances just for their parents' sake. He released her from his grasp and walked toward the refreshment table. He did not bother to notice if she was following or not. He had been a gentlemen for most of the night but his inner thoughts showed him the truth. Why be courteous to someone who doesn't believe in you or your cause? And Olivia made it quite obvious that she did not care for the Lehanes or their beliefs. Wynd often wondered why the Sorting Hat had put Olivia in Slytherin. Someone with such wishy-washy thoughts belonged in Gryffindor. That's where the rest of the blood traitors were. Still, Wynd took a glass for Olivia (real crystal, Mr. Pullman pulled out all the stops) and filled it with punch. He set it on the table and filled up a glass for himself. He then picked up both glasses and turned around and for the first time saw if she had followed him or not.

((sorry it took so long. Didn’t realize you’d replied to this.))
Olivia sighed heavily, watching her mother smirk triumphantly from the corner of her eye. This was it. Once again, Laura had won. She had beat Olivia once again. Olivia really did hate to admit failure, but here it was, plain and simple. Olivia thought she had won the infamous battle between mother and daughter, but once again she had won out in the end. Olivia didn’t know how Laura could be so very cunning and evil. She had placed Olivia with the one person in Slytherin house she hated most; other than his sister of course. Olivia didn’t understand the deal with Lehane. Olivia would probably date him in a second if it wasn’t for his very traditional beliefs and arrogant nature. Olivia wasn’t shallow. She always placed the personality card far before the looks card. But as much as Olivia seemed to hate Wynd, she was puzzled by him. He could be such a great person if only he wasn’t so arrogant and bigheaded. She didn’t understand his whole goal anyway. He hated muggles and everything about them. If anything, Olivia felt somewhat sorry for the muggles. Could they really help it if they weren’t blessed with magic? Only some very lucky people can call themselves witches and wizards and the rest are in the dark, not knowing a thing about magic or the many possibilities it has to offer. Sure, maybe it wasn’t fair that the wizards had to hide their magic away from the world, but was that really such a terrible sacrifice? Was it really so hard to visit a muggle train station and just wait an extra couple of seconds to make sure no one is looking before crossing the barrier? Could it really be so hard?
Olivia smirked a bit at Elle, who seemed to be having a grand old time. As much as Olivia hated her mother, she had to admire her skill. It must have taken real talent and skill to know exactly who to pick for each of her daughters. She knew that whoever that kid was, he’d be perfect for Elle. Just look at her! Olivia wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up dating that kid for awhile. Olivia’s smile faded just a bit when she looked back at Wynd. Just then, an idea popped into her head. What if she could make it so Laura didn’t win? She could tough it out for one night and act like she was having a ball with this Wynd Lehane, just so Mrs. Laura Dawson knew that she had failed once more in making her daughter miserable.
When Wynd suggested (or rather ordered) that they got drinks, Olivia gladly followed. She’d show her. She’d have the time of her life tonight, just to make Mrs. Dawson furious. Then she should learn never to mess with Olivia Dawson ever again. Olivia repressed the urge to smirk wickedly. People often wondered why exactly Olivia was even sorted into Slytherin house, when it seemed that she was against everything Slytherin. The simple reason was this; Olivia was just as cunning and sneaky as any other pureblood loving freak in her house. She thrived on revenge and winning and would not give up until it was her who could be named the champion. That fact alone was what made her a perfect member of Slytherin house. Olivia accepted the drink graciously and offered Wynd a genuine (well it seemed genuine) charming smile. “Thanks. You know, you really confuse me Lehane, you know? Now I have to admit, I wasn’t in the best of moods that day on the train, and I’m sorry for that. And I don’t want to start a full-fledged argument or anything, but out of all honesty and curiosity, why is it that you hate muggles so much? And furthermore, what’s so bad about those who don’t hate them?” Olivia asked calmly. She really was curious. The question had been burning in her head for the longest time. “I mean…did something happen?”
