Exams were finally over. School was finally over. Over. Next year he would had been his second year. This first year seemed to fly by. Where had the time gone? It seemed like only yesterday he had run into Aurora and Cougar in Diagon Alley. Skyler was glad that he had met them before the school year started. During the school year the first years hardly ever interacted with fourth years much the less sixth years. Skyler hardly saw Aurora or Cougar but they both would acknowledge his presence whenever he would see them. The thought of it brought a smile to his face. He had started this year hating most if not all people but he was leaving Hogwarts with a much different attitude. He remembered talking to Alex about it in the common room. At that time he had felt so out of place. He wasn't muggle born, but he might as well have been. He had been raised in the muggle world and knew nothing about this world until last July. So coming to this new world with strange people brought his defenses up. But he soon learned the truth in what Alex was saying. It takes time. Skyler found that he fit in this world better than he ever had at home and actually found that most people were nice when given the chance. When Chase finally did get into a magical school, there would be no need to protect him. There was a kind of solidarity that was not found outside the wizarding world. Maybe it was because wizards had to band together to protect their secret. Maybe something else.
Skyler sat on the edge of the stone fountain in the courtyard. He wasn't sure if he was still required to wear his school uniform since school was officially over but he wanted to wear it. He would feel strange in his muggle clothes at Hogwarts. Just like he would feel queer if he was in his robes at home. Of course it was too hot to be wearing his heavy cloak so he was without out today. He wore black slacks, a short-sleeved white button down shirt, a black vest, and his blue and bronze tie. Although he still did not agree with the house system, he was glad that he had been sorted into the Ravenclaw house. He had found Ravenclaws to be very friendly and comforting, when their noses weren't found in a book. Although, he probably would have found the other houses just the same. Except Slytherin. He doubted they were nice, even to each other. The only nice one was Mack. A small laugh erupted from him when he recalled meeting Mackenzie Holden by accident. He had fainted right in front of her. That was quite embarrassing. But to hear her sing! It was like she was singing just for him. She had promised him a private concert. Something that he had forgotten about until just now. It was too late to do anything about it now. Rumor was that she was dropping out of school and then the chances of Skyler seeing her again were slim to nil. In fact, Skyler had not seen much of either Alex nor Mack since that day. Actually since the festival. That festival where he had spent time with his best friend Will.
That thought reminded him of something. He had been saving his prize from that night for a long time but the time had finally come. It was now or never. He and Will had played a game that night and won some indoor fireworks. Skyler was unsure whether that was because he had actually won or that the booth was slow and the girls manning the booth were bored. Either way, he and Will had won. Skyler opened up his knapsack and gingerly removed his prize. He had long debated whether to set them off one at a time or all together. All together would be the most fascinating to watch but would be over the quickest. One at a time would take more time but would not be as spectacular. In the end, he and Will had made a fuse that would travel from one firework to the next so that hopefully, he they had timed it correctly, the next firework would go off a few seconds before the previous one ended. That way he would only have to light the fuse once and more than one firework would go off at once. Hopefully it would be a balance of time and brilliance. Setting up his firework device he looked in his sack for any lost items. What he discovered was a piece of parchment. He took it out and unfolded it.
Skyler had written the note so long ago that he had almost forgotten about it. He folded the parchment once again and stuffed it in his bag. He had found out during the winter holidays. His father's job was transferring the family to America. Skyler had pleaded and pleaded with his parents to let him stay but they had told him no. Skyler was going to give Will the note in King's Cross Station. But now Skyler had cold feet. The thought brought tears to Skyler's eyes as he lit the fuse and the first firework went off. Here's to you, Hogwarts.

Will,
You have been such a great friend this year.
You have shown me that this life is worth knowing.
I probably would not have made it through my classes without you.
I have been trying to come up with a way to tell you, but all that I came up with was this owl.
When we part ways after our journey on the Express, we will not see each other for some time.
My family is moving to America.
I'll miss you.
Skyler
