Serina was sitting in the library and she was reading. For what reason she did not know, but she was. Serina hated it and never read, but today she felt like doing something different and what she chose to do was just down right stupid to her. She never did see the point in reading unless it had to do with homework, then it was the only thing to do. Serina had nothing else to do and decided to go to the library and see if maybe she could meet someone and end up talking and laughing with that person, like she saw in the garden. Serina had friends but not at Hogwarts, so she wanted to change that. Serina never did think she was hard to get along with, infact she knew she was very easy to get along with.

Williard sat in the Great Hall munching on some chips while reading a book he had recently borrowed from the Library called, ''The Orb.'' Unfortunately his very keen ability to pick an interesting book failed him. After reading one more unbearably boring sentence, he closed the book, maybe a little too forcibly, and rubbed his hands together to get rid of the crumbs stuck to his fingers. He took a quick swig of pumpkin juice, scooped up the Library book, and proceeded to stand and leave the Great Hall. Part of him wished to run into Skyler, who had been acting weird lately, but he knew better. Skyler needed his space sometimes, just like Williard did. But, they were best friends, so Williard told himself for the millionth time that Skyler would eventually come around and tell him what was wrong; he always did, eventually.
A little while later, Williard entered the Library and gently placed the book on Madam Pince's desk. Madam Pince was usually nice to Williard, considering he was often checking books out of the Library, and he always returned them on time, and in excellent condition. However, she still swooped down upon the book, and Williard left it at that. He slowly backed away, giving a small smile, and proceeded to look around the Library for a fresh book.
He passed through rows and rows, and once again stole a glance at the Restricted Section. How he couldn't wait to plunge himself in the books in there. But for now, he'd have to settle. His eye caught a brilliantly bright blue book with bronze lettering. Williard knew that just because the book had a pretty jacket didn't necessarily mean it was a quality, well written book. So, he proceeded to read the title. ''The Life and Times of Rowena Ravenclaw.'' ''Hmmph,'' Williard sighed to himself taking the book off the shelf. He had never seen this before, and he thought he had read all the books there were on the Founder of his House. Well, all the books in the Library that were about, or mentioned her anyway. He opened it and immediately started skimming, and his eyes caught the title of a chapter. ''Rowena and Salazar; Forbidden Love.'' Williard's mouth fell open. He turned back to the cover of the page to see who had written it, but instead his eyes found a disclaimer in small capitalized bronze letters. ''THIS BOOK IS COMPLETE FICTION. NO STORIES WITHIN HOLD FACT, OR TRUTH.''[/color]
Williard immediately put the book back and proceeded to walk. Rubbing his eyes as he was walking, he abruptly stopped. He sensed something in front of him and moving his hand away from his eyes he noticed he almost bumped into the back of a girl who was sitting down, reading. Williard held his breath. Could she feel him behind her? He was so close and he could have sworn his cloaked brushed her hair. Well, maybe lightly, Williard thought. He began backing up slowly, hoping he didn't disturb her.

Serina was finally fed up with reading and decided to at least find a book that was worth reading, otherwise she was going to go back to her room and write in her journal....as always. Serina liked writing in her journal and telling"herself" about what had happened that day. Serina always did this because she liked looking back on the past days and reading what happened that way she would always remember it. She also loved reading the "good days. There weren't many unless she was here at Hogwarts! Serina pretended to read the rest of the page and then sighed and feircfully close the book, but she tried to do it silently, if that was even possible. She looked up from the cover of the book and immediatly looked over to Madame Pince, she wasn't really on good terms with her mainly because this was the first time she had ever been in the library and when she asked her whre a certain section was she just looked at her like she was crazy and then pointed. Serina just thought she was having a bad day and walked in the direction that she pointed. Serina folded her hands on top of the book, and gave Madame a funny smile because she had not even noticed that she had closed her book feircefully. Serina giggled a little and then looked around to see who all was in the library.
Serina was thinking to her self about her home and her mother. Although she hated arguing with her, Serina often worried about her mother being home alone and not having anyone to yell at and send to their room. Serina thought that the only reason why her mother was ever happy was because she had Serina to yell at and take all her "bad time at work" stress out on her. Serina hated it more then anything. That was why she convinced her mother to hire someone to take care of a garden that way she could go out and sit and relax while her mother was recovering from yelling at her. Serina had gotten her mother to have aboyfriend and her mother would stop yelling at her and yell at her boyfriend which didn't last too long. Her mother always made excuses to leave him on the side of the road. That's what she always though she did to her father but she didn't know what happened behind the doors when she was outside so she couldn't really say that was what happened.
Serina was about to get up and look for a book when she felt what seemed like a gust of a slight breeze or somethign like that. She knew it came from behind her so she didn't want to move and see who or what it was. The last time she did that it was her friend from home, and then he knocked her upside the head. He said he was just playing but that really hurt Serina. She had the worst head ache ever after that. Serina took a deep breathe and then she heard someone hold their breathe. Now that scared her. Serina quickly turned around and saw a boy. She giggled again, only because the look on his face was priceless. She knew he was imbarressed but she thought it was funny that he had held his breathe to not disturb her. Serina slid the chair back a little and stood up. She faced him trying not to burst out laughing. "Well, say something. I wasn't affraid and you didn't really disturb me...that much" Serina giggled at what she said trying to make him feel more at ease.

''Um,'' Williard stammered. ''Hi, I'm Williard. Uh, first year, and um, Ravenclaw, obviously.'' Williard backed up a little just to put a bit of space between them. He wished he could put more, as in leave the Library, but he deducted that that would've been very rude indeed. ''Um, excuse me. About what just happened I mean. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. Well, I was, but I was wiping my eyes.'' Williard stopped talking and stared at his feet. ''Um,'' he swallowed. It's not that he was scared or anything. It was quite the opposite. He wasn't afraid of meeting new people as he had once been. But, it was still a challenge for Williard not to tense up.
He remembered when he first met Skyler by the Black Lake. He was so nervous and scared that he almost drew his wand on him. But, after talking to Skyler and loosening up a bit, he found it quite easy. That was one of the first times Williard allowed himself to loosen up, and from that experience he gained his now and first best friend outside of his parents. So, who knew what that would do for him this time, or so he thought. This was a totally new person, but she seemed nice enough.
He took a deep breath, and quietly let it out, slowly. He put a small smile on his face, and mentally told himself to relax. Just be, cool, he thought. It was an odd thought, because cool was one of the last words Williard would use to describe himself. He supposed he just meant, be yourself. Even as he thought this, his mother's calm, soothing voice rang in his hears. He straightened up, and put his hands behind his back. ''So, I'm in here a lot, and I haven't seen you around in here before. I hope you're reading a good book, because at the present moment, I can't seem to find one.''

Serina was starring at this boy who was obvisously nervous or something. She thought it was a little funny that he used um way too many times. She found it a little cute..but she didn't let it show or tried not to. Serina was listening and smiling at the same time trying to let him think that she didn't even notice his over use of the word um. Serina didn't really care how many times he used it because she figured he had a hard time meeting people, she did too but she was trying to change that and make to where she can talk with out rambling on about something totally off topic. Serina listened as he told her his name. Willard She kept thinking of who she might know with the same name, but she couldn't think of anyone. She liked meeting people with names she hasn't yet heard before. Serina started to think a little too much and finally decided to tell him her name after he took a break from talking. "Well, hello Willard! My name is Serina Becksworth, and i'm a first year in Gryffindor!" Serina was very proud to say she was in Gryffindor." So..." Serina said it so quiety that she didn't think he heard her and hoped he didn't.
Serina was a little nervous now too...although she didn't know why. She just knew that she was getting nervous and was scared to say something, thinking it would scare him off. Seina just listened as he finished what he was saying. She thought that was the best thing to do at this point. When she heard him ask if she was readin a good book...she couldn't help but laugh out loud. She quickly covered her mouth and looked back at Madame Pince she didn't do anything but look at her and point. Serina was still chuckling inside. she turned back to Willard who she wanted to call Will. " Well, as a matter of a fact i'm not and i really don't read that much...that's why ou never saw me before. I'm usually in the garden. Have you been there?" She couldn't believe she asked that! Of course he has been there, he goes to school here! Serina hoped he wouldn't make fun of how she just asked hima really stupid question and she didn't think he had to answer it either.

''The Garden? Do you mean the one in the Courtyard?" Williard frowned his face. ''Come to think of it, no, not really. I mean, I've been around the Courtyard but not actually in it. For some reason, it doesn't appeal to me all that much." Williard's first year was flying by, and their were lots of places that Williard hadn't bothered to go. And, that was how he really felt. The Courtyard really didn't appeal to him. The only people he saw occupy it were upperclassmen, mainly guys who took girls there when they wanted to ask them out. Probably because they thought the scenery romantic or something, and when he did see first years there, they were usually girls talking about how pretty the place was. Well, he thought looking Serina up and down. She is a girl.
''Well, the glances that I've had into the Courtyard of the fountain and some of the statues kind of interested me. Just in the sense of art. Um, I draw, well sketch. But I haven't drawn anything for a while now. Haven't had the time.'' Williard tightened his hands together behind his back. Now that he said it, he realized how much he did indeed miss drawing in his sketchbook that his father made him. It's been a few months since he had stored it at the bottom of his trunk, and since then, he hadn't even touched the thing.
Replacing his smile, he remembered his manners. ''Well, what sort of things do you like to do? Do you have any hobbies or anything?'' For some reason, he looked over at Madam Pince who was now staring at the two of them. Williard supposed she was getting angry because they were talking. They weren't speaking loudly, but he supposed their normal conversational voice was too loud by Madam Pince's standards. Well, whispering was too loud for Madam Pince's standards. ''Sorry, but do you mind if we walk and talk?'' Williard didn't tell Serina why. He just wanted to move far out of Madam Pince's view of them. Williard thought she liked him. That was probably what stopped her from coming over and throwing them out of the Library.

Serina giggled at his question. She didn't really make it clear about where at the garden was. She shook her head yes, not interrupting his speaking. Serina liked talking to Willard. He was nice unlike some of the people she has met so far. Mainly because she tried to talk to upperclassmen, which might not of been such a smart idea in the first place. Serina now was relaxed instead of being more up tight and stiff. She had her hands casually folded in front of her and almost leaning against the chair, making sure she didn't lean too much so she wouldn't fall after the chair moved quickly out from beneath her. Serina had a habbit of being...well clumsy. A lot too, she always was falling off steps or even tripping over nothing in the middle of the class. She never cared about people laughing at her, infact she laughed as they did. Serina thought it was funny how she was so stupid enough to trip over NOTHING!
"Well, i like to look at gardens...of course as you can tell. Lets see what else do i like to do? OH! If you promise not to laugh i will tell you the one thing i love doing but you can't laugh at me!" Serina gave Willard a gentle but friendly smile, and then she saw him look over at Madame Pince. Serina didn't like her so far. She was nice when she came in but for some unknown reason it seemed as if Madame Pince didn't like Serina. Serina then thought that it wasn't just her that it was just they way Madame Pince was. Serina never thought it was healthy to be like that towards kids or even adults.
Willard asked Serina if she minded walking and talking. Considering the fact she is terrible at walking alone she thought it was going to be a little hard to walk and talk at the same time. Serina then decided to at least try to walk and tlak. What could it hurt?"Well, why not? Seeing that Madame Pince doesn't want us talking in the library then i guess we should go out side of the library, don't you?" Serina was trying to make it a joke, and see if he thought it was funny. Serina often acted funny and ened up not having anyone laugh at her jokes. She didn't really make a big deal at it but she thought it would be nice to have someone laugh at it, even if it wasn't that funny. Serina picked up her book bag and turned towards Willard again. For soem reason Serina liked it when she turned around and he was standing there. It was like a sense of comfort and it was almost as if she got all fluffy and warm inside when she knew he was standing there next to her. Serina then shook her head and told her self to knock it off and just talk to him. Serina always had a problem liking guys, and reading too much into them before she actually really knew them. Serina hoped he wouldn't notice that she had already done that or at least act as if he didn't. That would make her really embarressed.

Williard smiled at Serina's apparent joke. It wasn't exactly funny, but it reminded him of his mother. She was a very funny woman, but she was bloody awful when she actually tried to tell jokes. That's when Williard liked it best. He knew he probably shouldn't laugh at his mother's expense, but couldn't help it. He nodded towards the door to exit the Library, and began walking. He looked at Madam Pince once more and gave a small wave, and a nod of apology. He still wanted to find a book, but he supposed he got something better and much more Interesting. Possibly a new friend.
He thought it would be nice to have someone new to talk to and hang out with. Not that he didn't enjoy Skyler, but sometimes, it would just be nice to have someone else. Just for a bit of a change. Or at least to have someone for the moments when he and Skyler did need a little time apart from eachother. But Williard was still dying to know what was wrong with him. It must be something serious, or in some aspect. This was the longest Skyler had ever carried on in one of his moods.
He opened the door, and let Serina walk out before he did. ''So, what else was it that you liked to do? I promise I won't laugh,'' Williard added looking at her intently. ''Well, I can't really promise because well, I have a weird sense of humor. Certain things are funny to me that aren't really funny to other people. That's why I don't have too many friends. People think I'm a bit weird.'' Williard had a flash back to an incident that happened in the Great Hall a few months ago. He didn't want to think about it, but he almost got hexed by a good many upperclassmen. Shaking his head, he focused back on Serina, awaiting her answer.

There was something about Willard's smile that made Serina smile too. She wasn't sure what it was but she knew htat she liked him. Serina was hoping that she had just made a new friend because she didn't really have much friends. Most of her friends aren't really friends they are just more like people that she knows and tries to act like they are good friends. Serina always hated being " The New Kid" in school because she never knew anyone and she hated going up to people and talking to them first. Serina was always told that she was like her cousin Scoute. She was always shy to meet people and then in her 3rd year at Hogwarts she became more open and started to meet more and more people. Serina always looked up to Scoute as a role model because she was a very strong individual and always told Serina that she could do and be anything that she wanted. Serina always took her advice. That was why when her mother told her that she didn't want Serina to go to Hogwarts, Serina didn't stop begging to go. Serina's mother didn't like Hogwarts all that much, even though she went to Hogwarts her self. Serina always thought it was because she was very close to being expelled from Hogwarts for using magic out side of Hogwarts. She never did use it but she was very close to doing it.
Serina smiled at Willard and gave him a nodd that said "thank you very much". Serina liked it when he opened the door for her. It was very nice of him and it made Serina feel like he was being nice to her instead of walking though first and not waiting for her, like some of the people she has already met. Then again those people were Slytherins' so she should have expected that from them. Serina stopped right out side of the door to wait for Willard. "Well, I love dueling and i love studing it. I often read books on it and write notes so i can practice and get good enough to where people wont mess with me!" Serina gave Willard a crooked smile and giggled a little bit. Serina was just joking about the whole making sure people don't mess with her thing. Serina has always been a nice person, and never one to hurt someone unless they hurt her first. So that is the only reason she could come up with for why she should study Dueling, because she needed to know what exactly people would do to her and how bad it woul effect her. Serina has never been in a terrible duel but she has lost a couple and won a couple.
"So what is your favorite subject that you are taking?" Serina wasn't sure what to ask him next so she just thought of a simple question to ask. To be honest she was getting a little nervous about asking him questions. She always hated asking the questions, she loves answering the questions though. Serina was walking by his side and for some unknown reason she couldn't stop smileing when she was looking at him. She didn't want to stare at him but she wanted to be nice and make sure he knew that she was paying attention to what he was saying. Serina was always taught to look at someone when they were talking, and now she can't focus unless she is looking at who ever is talking.

Dueling, Williard thought. That was hardly anything to be embarrassed about. There was nothing wrong with wanting to learn a few offensive and defensive spells. Well, of course Williard didn't exactly want to learn how to duel, but his father had taught him some charms, jinxes, and curses a little over a year ago before he came to Hogwarts. Williard remembered the rush he felt when his father placed his wand in Williard's hand for the first time; Williard had not yet had a wand of his own. He was hesitant at first but his father's wand worked decently for him, and he was able to cast a few spells here and there. However, they usually had to sneak around whenever they wanted to practice; mainly because Williard's mother highly disapproved of her husband giving their under aged child a wand to perform magic with. After all, both of them worked at the Ministry of Magic and both made it a certain mission to make sure they abided by Ministry rules, but his father was a bit more relaxed about it than his mother. Williard liked to imagine his father went that far to teach him because he wanted him to have a bit of an advantage in school, but he couldn't help but think maybe he was afraid Williard would get picked on. Well, that was routine at Hogwarts and any school, muggle and wizarding alike right? The upperclassmen picked on the lowerclassmen. That was just how it was. But Williard thought it best not to tell anyone of his ''prior training.'' Not even Skyler.
Williard smiled as Serina asked him what was his favorite class. ''Well, I don't think I have just one. I like Defense Against the Dark Arts, I like Transfiguration, I like Potions, well, minus Professor Snape. But, I think I like Charms best. Not because my Head of House teaches it. I think I just like learning and casting spells. My parents work at the Ministry. Both of them are members of the Magical Reversal Squad. Very talented, they are. They know almost every spell there is, and they even make their own incantations and what not.'' Williard stopped talking to catch his breath he bit his lip. He had went on and on, like he often did when he talked about his parents. ''Sorry, I guess a aspire to be like them. My parents are kind of my heroes, if it isn't obvious.''
Williard felt slightly embarrassed. He wasn't ashamed that he idolized his parents, it was just he imagined he sounded quite stupid. He ignored his feelings, and continued talking. That was something Williard was trying to work on. He thought entirely too much and too hard about the littlest things to where he would start to freak out. But, he was definitely getting better. ''Well, whats your favorite subject?''

Serina smiled as Williard told her about his parents. She didn't mind at all, she liked hearing about different families and what they are liked compared to hers. To Serina she thought that his parents seemed very nice, and not only because of the fact they work for The Ministry. Serina knew that her father nor mother would never give her their wand or sneak around to teach her anything. Serina had earned her wand and it, in a way, found her. She was Shopping for stuff for school before she went to Hogwarts and she was looking at the wands when she must have bumped a box, when the wand she now has, fell at her feet. She picked it up and she instanly felt a certain feeling. It was like she was ment to have that wand. So she bought it and she has never let it out of her sight since. Serina was very happy to have work for everything she now has. Serina knows it's hard work but the only reason she can think of why she should work so hard is because if she doesn't work hard then she doesn't suceed. Success comes after work always in her agenda. Serina put he hand on her pocket so she could feel her wand and make sure it was still there. Serina sometimes doesn't realize that she does this. It's very good that she does though because with her luck the one time she needs it, it's not there. So Serina always checks to make sure she has it and she is always happy that she does that. Serina would be lost with out it!
"Well, my favorite subject would have to be Defense Against The Dark Arts. Mainly because my father always talked about how wonderful it was and how he was at the top of the class and how i should be like him and live up to his name in that class. So i took the class and to my surprise i am very inlightened by the class. I think i wont have A problem with living up to his name" Serina hated admitting that her parents often told her how to act and what to say at Hogwarts. Serina liked to think of Hogwarts as a place where she could learn and find more about her self then try and compete with who has the most powerful parents. Serina hated that! Serina often thought that is why she liked hanging out with her father more then her mother. Her father, Russ , was a Slytherin but he was the nicest Slytherin she knew. Russ seemed more like a Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Serina loved spending time with her father, and unfortuniatly that is happening less and less now that she lives somewhat far away from her father. That is her mother's fault.

Williard frowned. ''You shouldn't think about it like that,'' he said tucking his hands into his robe pockets. He thought it highly unfair that her father put pressure on her to be like him. ''It's cool that your Dad wants you to be great and all, but I think it's a big mistake for you to hold yourself to his standard. You should succeed in Defense in Against the Dark Arts, or any other subject for that matter because you want to, not because your father was good at it and now he wants and expects you to be too, you know?''Williard got slightly angry. He thought back to his grandmother.
She had also went to Hogwarts, and had been in Ravenclaw. He recalled the stories that his mother told him about how she was pressured by her mother about everything. She expected her to be in Ravenclaw, she expected her to be top of her class, Head Girl. That was a lot of pressure to put on your child. Grandma Annabelle even did it to Williard, a week before he was due to come to Hogwarts for the first time. ''You had better be in Ravenclaw boy!" ''You'd had better be top of your class and Head Boy when the time comes! I was Head Girl, and so was your mother. You had better continue that tradition and do the name of Caoimhe justice!''
Williard was so angry with her after that, but was comforted by his mother. She told him she didn't care what House he was sorted into, or what his grades were like. She just wanted him to be himself, and do what he wanted to do. Unfortunately Grandma Annabelle over heard their talk, and his mother went through a whole night dealing with her screaming and yelling, and not once did she argue back. Williard wished she would have cast a silencing charm on her, but knew it wouldn't happen. Snapping back to reality, he looked back over at Serina. ''Sorry about that. If I offended you I mean. It's just I have a bit of experience in that department, that's all.''

Serina smiled at Williard again."It doesn't offend me at all. There's no need to apoligize." Serina knew she was a nice girl and often liked to make sure peopl thought of her as a nice girl. Serina didn't want Williard, especiall him, to think that she was a quiet girl and didn't like talking and was was offened by almost anything. That wasn't true. Even on a bad day Serina would talk a lot. Serina liked to talk and she most always was never offened. It took a lot to offend Serina. Serina often looked at the good side to everything too. When ever someone said something mean to her she just woul think "Something must be going on at home and they are takeing their anger out on me" or " They don't really mean it." Serina always thought that even the meanest person alive had a good side to them, and that they just don't like showing it. Just like how she knew every nice person has a bad/mean side to them and they just don't like showing it either. That reminded her of when she flipped out on her cousin who was pushing a little kid around in the durt and calling him many different mean names. Serina went up to her cousin and pushed her off of the little kid and knocked her own cousin, who was much bigger then her, on the ground and did the same thing she was doing to the little kid. Serina's cousin has not picked on any little kid anymore, she just picks on people her age or older. That doesn't bother Serina all that much because she knows that her cousin will have her day when she gets pushed around and name called.
Serina was walking and she finally felt a releif. She felt as if now she could talk to Williard with out being nervous. It never really took that long for her to get comfortable with someone when she was talking to them. She often could tell right away if she was talking to someone who was not such a good person to be tlaking to.
Serina smiled and asked"Well, what class do you have next? Maybe if it's before mine i can walk you to your class...if you odn't mind." Serina knew it was usually the guys job to walk the girl to her class but if his class was before hers she didn't want him to end up being late. Serina would just feel bad for that.

Williard shifted uneasily. He had only walked to his classes with another person a few times, and that was in the beginning of the school year, and that was with Skyler. Since then, he had walked to all of his classes alone, and he much preferred it that way. But, he thought it nice of her to offer, anyway. ''I have Divination this morning.'' He took a small breath. Williard was a very honest person, and really wasn't one to do, or go along with something that made him uncomfortable. So, he decided to speak up. ''Thanks for the offer to walk with me, but I think I'd rather go alone.'' He said it rather quickly, but only because he was slightly nervous.
He didn't know Serina, so, he wasn't sure how she'd take it. Williard had his ways that he liked to do certain things, and some of those ways could, and were often misconcepted. Some people thought Williard to be pompous, a know-it-all, even stuck up, which were all things he knew he wasn't, so he payed no attention. It made him appreciate Skyler all the more. He just, well, accepted Williard. Nothing more, nothing less.
He looked at Serina and gave a small smile. He wanted, to apologize, or explain. ''Besides, I have to go back up to Ravenclaw Tower to get my things anyway.'' It wasn't quite what he was going for, but that was all he had. After a few more minutes of pleasant conversation, the two ended up at the Grand Staircase. Williard glanced at the clock. He had fifteen minutes until Divination. ''Well, it was nice meeting you Serina.'' He held out his hand fo her to shake it. ''I hope we see eachother again.''

Serina was starring at Williard and she was even smilling. When he had told her that he would rather walk alone. Serina had understood, mainly because Serina liked the time alone she had whenever walking to her class by herself too. Serina smiled nicely and replied"That's perfectly fine i usually like to walk alone also. So.." Serina wanted to tell him to meet her some where so they could talk more but she wasn't all that sure if he even wanted to talk to her again or even see her again. Serina decided to just tell him good-bye and that they will see each other around."Well...I guess we will see each other around?"Serian gave him one of her best smiles, in hopes he would like to see her again. Serina waited before turning around and leaving. She wanted to wait a little bit to see if he was going to say anything or if he was going to be like every other boy she knew and just leave with out even nodding towards her in a sense to say good-bye. Serina wouldn't wait that much longer mainly because her classs was the opposite way that he was going and she didn't really want to be late. Not like she would get in trouble, because this would be her first time ever being late...in her life.
