Julie eyed the room as she looked around. The genuine fire and spirit in her would have never agreed to up and leave her home and her class to go work at a summer camp for Hogwarts students. But the mortgage needed to be paid as did all the other bills that were beginning to pile up on Julie’s desk at home. So, she needed this job. She also didn’t exactly like that she couldn’t be as carefree as she usually was with her classes since her old professors would surely be there to judge her progress in life. So, she decided on something safe, the topic of art movements. Most art students needed to know about art movements, so she figured it was a good subject to start off with. Plus, Julie had added a hopefully fun twist to the project. Julie tried to stay away from the classic structure of a regular classroom, as she normally hated most forms of structure and organization. She had taken to the art of mural drawing. Her muggle students normally had trouble with murals considering how it normally took them ages to cover just a small portion of the wall or surface. But she figured that because these kids had their magical abilities, they’d be able to speed up the process a bit. She just hoped it didn’t get in the way of the art itself.
Julie stood in the middle of a plain, boring looking white room. The room had three completely blank walls, one wall with a door, and she had charmed the ceiling to be made of glass so as to give the kids some light while they worked. The floors were covered with plastic, and in the center of the room stood quite a few props for the project. There was a large, messy pile of smocks, many paintbrushes and supplies, and countless buckets of multi-colored paint. There were other things of course, like pallets to mix colors and other tools that would be needed to create the murals. There were also three small stacks of paper lying just under Julie McGreggor’s feet. She smiled warmly, greeting each student as they entered.
Once Julie noticed everyone who was scheduled to arrive had in fact arrived, she closed the door and began the class. She smiled down at the kids, who had taken to sitting awkwardly amongst the many paint buckets that littered the floors of the spacious white room. “Good morning everyone! Well, I’m Julie McGreggor and I’ll be your art movements instructor for your time here. Call me whatever your little heart desires (as long as it’s appropriate) but I do like to be called Julie if you don’t mind. Anyway, today we’ll be doing some mural work. The task for the rest of your time here is simple.” Julie looked around the room at the tired faces of the students (as everyone seemed to have just woken up, even though it was around eleven thirty) to make sure everyone was listening. “I have this hat.” Julie said, and with a wave of her wand, a large black magic hat appeared in her hands.
“And it contains many little papers with one of the three terms: surrealism, romanticism, and pop art. These are art movements.” Julie explained as she passed the hat around to the kids sitting on the floor in front of her. “And what an art movement is, is a certain style of art that could have been popular during a particular time period. Once you have your movement and have read up about it, you’ll get to deface one of these three walls with an example of what your art movement is. But by the end of this little vacation, be prepared to explain to me how your mural relates to your movement. And be creative. Magic can be used, but keep it limited. So…if there aren’t any questions, please take a sheet and start thinking about what you’re going to cover your wall with. The wall behind me is the surrealism wall, the one to my right is the romanticism wall, and the one to my left is the pop art wall. And there’s no need to be neat or worry about clean up. The intention here is to make a mess.” Julie added with a wink as the hat was passed back to her.
((simply post your character reaching into the hat and I will send you a pm letting you know which art movement your character has been given. You can then get started on the project.))
