Ginny stared out the window the window, her brown eyes twinkling under the little sunlight outside. There were leavings floating in their dance to the ground by the wind. Soon the trees would be stripped clean for the winter. Ginny loved the cold weather, the only down fall was the high chance of catching a cold. Her red hair was still soaking wet, water droplets falling slowly to the hardwood floor. She had needed a hair cut for a while, but Ginny didn’t know if she wanted to part with her long hair. Her mother would cut it like when she was a little girl and normally her hair ended up quite short. Ginny liked the freedom of pulling her hair up into a pony tail. She was nervous. That day was going to be the start of the rest of her life of being an Auror. Ginny took a deep breath as she leaned against the wall. Her head was still tilted to the side, strands of wet hair sticking to her check. Moving them aside she stared at the ground. It hadn’t even been a full week of relaxation from graduating the Auror Academy. Ginny had spent most of the time at Bill’s house, helping out with their new baby. Fleur had been complaining most of the time about the sharp pain in her back and her aching feet. It scared Ginny slightly about the pains of being pregnant, but she wasn’t planning on starting a family anytime soon. There was still life to live, places to see, and that’s exactly what being an Auror offered Ginny. She wanted to make the wizarding world a safer place. After Harry’s death, it gave her the inspiration and offer to choice becoming an Auror. Ron was a complete mess, but he was steadily getting better. Ginny had to lock the liquor cabinets with a protective spell so he wouldn’t get inside. Feeling tears swell up into her eyes, Ginny closed them shut. She was trying so hard not to continue mourning over her friend’s death. It was hard, but she kept reminding herself he died for the good in the world.
Taking a deep breath from the bottom of her lungs, she slowly released the air. When her mind was cleared, she opened her eyes. Her gaze fell upon the clock hanging on the wall and immediately jumped. She only had an hour to be at Diagon Alley! Quickly performing a drying charm on her hair she began to get dressed. Tugging her head through the hole of the shirts, and her legs through the pants, she smoothed out her outfit. Grabbing the clock from on top of the banister of her bed, Ginny pulled it on. Her hands padded down her pockets, feeling her badge and wand. Did she have everything? Nodding, Ginny partially dashed out of her bedroom, heading down the stairs two at a time. Grabbing the railing for support, she stopped in the middle of the kitchen. Mr. Weasley was sitting at the end of the table; The Daily Prophet perched open in front of him. She could see the picture of a middle aged wizard in hand cuffs that was accused of robbing a muggle store down in London. Shaking her head, Ginny looked down at the table noticing a plate of toast and biscuits being placed in front of her. “Um…mum….I’m not all the hungry….I really need-” stopping, Ginny stared into the stern brown eyes of her mother. Sighing, she grabbed a couple pieces of toast, buttering them both with jam and stuffing them into her mouth. Waving good bye, Ginny pulled out her wand from her pocket, and with a pop vanished in thin air.
Right on time. Sighing with relief, Ginny held her wand tightly as she entered the small room where the Aurors gathered before heading out into the streets of Diagon Alley. Ginny knew she was supposed to get an expirenced Aurora to help her today, but she didn't know who. Apparntly they must know, so she wasn't all that worried about it. Looking from each of the faces she checked her ID in before turning around as someone greeted her.

Jake Rainyar yawned as he stretched back in his chair lazily. His arms rose over his head and he heard the satisfying sound of his back popping several times before he finished his long, loud yawn. He brought his hand to his mouth and covered it as he tried to stifle it at least a little. Blinking away the water that came to his eyes from the stretch and yawn he leaned back up in his chair, picking up the parchment he had been looking at before he felt the urge to yawn. Frowning he placed it back in the pile to his left. He’d been organizing all morning and he was about ready to just take a nap in his chair. It was one of the more tedious jobs that the Auror Academy had trained him for. Now his work at the Ministry of Magic was a mixture of actual field duty and organizing piles and piles of parchment. It was boring and at one point he actually wished he had a computer. He smirked at the thought, Aurors weren’t usually the ones that dealt with muggle devices, but Jake being part muggle had a love for certain muggle technology. Computers were one of them. He felt that it had such potential and a great database for organization. If the Ministry ever got used to them it’d help out immensely with the amount of paperwork that piled up. Jake yawned again as he looked up at the clock on the wall, the small hands ticking away slowly the morning hours. This was now marked the tenth time he had looked at the clock in the last twenty minutes, but this time a grin fell across his face.
“Well look at that, it’s time to get to Diagon Alley,” Jake said out loud in an enthusiastic tone. It was about time he got out of that room, it had started to drive him crazy, sitting there and organizing through old Auror reports, trying to sort them into relevance and organizing them by date. Now though…now Jake was going to do some fieldwork. He had actually been assigned to train a fresh student from the academy. He was actually rather excited about the whole thing. Jake had passed with high marks at the academy and he was one of the more experienced of the younger Aurors. It wasn’t that he was better; it was more the fact that he took great lengths to studying and training. He just wanted to be the best. It had been a goal of his to help keep the wizarding world safe and now he was glad he had the opportunity. It was refreshing to know that he had the ability to save people, which was one of his more rewarding tasks from the Ministry. Jake never felt better than ever after he saved someone or put someone evil behind the bars of Azkaban. It was a calling to him and that’s what he loved about it.
Jake yawned once more before standing and grabbing up his jacket. He stretched back once more before moving out of his small cubicle and up to the main lobby of the Ministry. The lobby seemed to be filled with Apparating witches and wizards as well as an odd array of creatures. He waved to the few people he knew before he himself was gone in a blink of an eye, appearing just outside the wall leading to Diagon Alley. He tapped the bricks lightly and waited as the wall opened up and he was through, moving quickly through the crowd of wizards and witches. Jake smiled at the surroundings, loving to watch the crowd of smiling people progress through their shopping lists. After recognizing a few he moved through the crowd making sure he was on time. He already knew whom he was meeting up with. It’d be interesting to see how well they did. Jake wasn’t unfamiliar with the Weasley family. After all he’d seen Arthur several times on his way through the ministry. So when he stepped through the door to the room and saw the flaming red hair of the youngest Weasley he smiled, pushing back a few thoughts that had jumped out at him at first appearance. Instead he moved toward her and smiled. “Ginny Weasley,” he greeted as his grin spread further across his face. “I’m Jake Rainyar and I’ll be the one training you today.”

Ginny turned swiftly on her heels as she heard her name being called. Staring at the older, she listened as he introduced himself as Jake Rainyar. Why did that name sound so familiar? Maybe she had classes with in back at Hogwarts? Examining him closer, Ginny’s brown eyes glazed across his face until finally landing on his eyes. He didn’t look much older than her self; maybe about a year, but she recognized those eyes. Her face lit up as she finally remembered. “Jake Rainyar!” Ginny exclaimed excitedly, a bright grin lighting her face. “I haven’t seen in you in a long time…” she added softly, pocketing her wand. Ginny didn’t exactly know Jake on a personal level, but she had some classes with him back at Hogwarts. All she could really remember about him was that he was a Hufflepuff. She couldn’t recall anybody that he had hanged out with, but how could she if they weren’t friends back then? “I would ask how everything was going, but it looks good so far.” Nodding, Ginny ran her fingers through her hair as she turned back around forgetting to sign in. Pulling out her wand, she flicked it promptly, her hand appearing on the sandy parchment. There weren’t that many names listed. There were only a few students that had graduated from the academy. It was hard to get into training to become an Auror. Only a few people were selected. To be honest, Ginny was quite surprised when she had received her letter of acceptance. “So how is life outside of work doing for you, Jake?” Gazing around the room, Ginny saw various pairs spread throughout the room. Most of her friends had much older mentors, which meant that Jake had to be exceptionally good at his job to be training a new Auror. Noticing a few people standing in front of Ginny, she moved aside toward the wall. “I’ve already head a tour at the Auror Headquarters in the Ministry of Magic,” she said smiling at Jake as turned her full attention on him. Ginny was familiar with the Ministry. She could remember when she was younger going to work with her father. He was always so fascinated with anything that involved muggles. “I think the desk work is going to be the worst part of the job. What do you say?” she asked, her brown eyes holding his gaze with interest. She was quite curious to what Jake had to say about the paperwork of the job. It might be the safest aspect of being an Auror, but it had to be the most boring. Though, Ginny wasn’t expecting to have a full out adventure on her first day. Actually, Ginny was hoping nothing of the sort would happen anytime soon. “Are there-” she began, stopping as he noticed everyone beginning to pour of the room. That only meant that it was time to head to the streets. Following the crowd, Ginny headed further down the street, her eyes watching each and every face that passed them. “Your not going to drill me with endless questions on what I can do, and can’t – are you?” she asked looking over her shoulder at Jake with her eyebrow rose slightly. “Where should we start first?” ((OOC- Sorry if this isn't the best post. Couldn't think of anything.))

Jake couldn’t stop the huge smile that came over his face as Ginny recognized him. He chuckled softly and nodded. How long had it been since he had graduated from Hogwarts anyway? A year and a half…two years? Something like that. After all he was nearly 20 years old now. Or would be in several months. He was one of the youngest Aurors in the business really, well at least at his position. He was good and he knew it deep down, but he was always the type that didn’t think he knew enough or was trained enough. You never stop learning, he would say to himself, because it was true. No one ever stopped learning. There was always something new to be learned, something you didn’t know before. It was just how you reacted to such learning that made you good or bad at what you did. Like some of the older Aurors had a hard time dealing with Jake’s inexhaustible energy. He was always ready to go out, to fix things, and took little time out for the actual paperwork of it all. That’s what he hated, maybe it was because he was hyperactive, but he hated sitting at the desk all day running over paperwork that needed to be done, but he did it because he knew it had to be done. He was the only one that could do it and he wasn’t about to let his writing ability slip by. That was a laugh; Jake wasn’t a writer that was his mother and his sister. No he was the talker or reader. He had read his fair share of books, but no way could he actually sit down and write anything decent. He had a hard enough time getting through Hogwarts and then the Auror Academy because of his writing skills or I should say lack thereof. That was all in the past now…now he was a fulltime Auror and spent most of his time patrolling and only on occasion writing the reports that needed to be filled out if something happened.
“It has been an awfully long time since I’ve seen a lot of people from Hogwarts. You know I run into them every now and then at the Ministry, but we don’t really talk. Besides when we do it’s to reminiscent about the ‘good old days’ at Hogwarts,” he laughed as he nodded his approval at Ginny’s way of signing in. It was good to see that there were other young people interested in becoming Aurors like himself. For a while he thought they were a dying breed, but after the Dark Lord had been eliminated life seemed to become grand once again and more students than ever had begun to stream into the Auror Academy’s unfortunately not all of them could pass. It was a hard place to go, a hard lesson to learn really. Jake had had many problems at the academy mainly focusing around how hard it was to actually deal with death. There had been so many simulations, so many things preparing them, especially since he had started attending when the Dark Lord had been at his worst. Thankfully Jake had gotten through it…had gotten through so well that he was actually one of the top in the class. It had been a rewarding experience for him and one he wasn’t going to forget, especially after seeing the pride radiate from his parents and sister. They had all been proud of him and he had found himself surrounded by the best friends a guy could ask for. “Life outside of work…” he paused with a smirk before chuckling. “I guess I don’t really have a life outside of work. I own my own flat on the East side of London, but that’s about it. I tend to spend a lot of my time at the Ministry, mostly because the friends I had at Hogwarts are all out doing something now. Not sure where most of them are to tell you the truth. I took my path, they took theirs. Someday we’ll meet up again.”
Jake laughed about the paperwork. “Indeed it is the worst part of the job in my opinion. But if you remember me from Hogwarts I haven’t really calmed down in my exploits on life. I’m still too young for that if you ask me. A lot of the grandpa’s around here are more adapt with the paperwork, saying it’s the most important and of course the most fun part of the job, but I think it’s just cause they’re old and don’t know what it is to patrol anymore,” he said in a soft voice. “Just don’t tell them I said anything. They’re quite sensitive when it comes to age.” Jake knew the other Aurors to be great people, people that had spent their entire lives in harm’s way, especially with the Dark Lord on the loose. However he still loved to tease them about being old. It had become rather a constant between them all, especially after Jake found a pacifier on his desk at the Ministry. From that point on there was a constant beret of pacifiers and Depends going back and forth between them. Jake found it to be the best part of the job, getting to know everyone so well and having them take you under their wing and teach you everything they knew. So with that Jake was bound and determined to make sure Ginny had the same kind of experience he had when he first joined the ranks of Aurors.
As the throngs of Aurors began to leave the building with their partners Jake followed Ginny out the door, loving the idea of patrolling. Of course he had been given one of the rougher areas of the Alley to patrol, the old Knockturn Alley. It had been converted since the last attack, but still people stayed away from it, the fear still high in their minds he supposed. He chuckled as he walked. “No I won’t ask you a million questions, at least not today anyhow. I prefer the hands on learning approach, which is why we’ve been given Knockturn Alley. Remember as an Auror you have the power to condemn or exalt just about anyone, the thing is that you have to see the clear different between both choices and the person you’re facing.” Jake shook his head. “Don’t really ask me what that means, the Auror that trained me always used to say that and I basically would just smile and nod. You know how it is? Anyway, how have you been since you graduated? I mean your parents, geez, they must be incredibly proud of you having been accepted into the Auror Academy and then to Auror Training.”

“Same. I do miss those ‘good old days’ but I’m excited about moving on in life you know?” Ginny responded to Jake’s comment about meeting up with people back at Hogwarts. She still kept in touch with her friends, but not lately. The Auror Academy kept her extremely busy from having a real life outside of training. To be truthful, Ginny struggled to pass the academy. Ginny did have what it took to be an Auror, but she still had to deal with the giants of her past. She had seen so many horrible things, and deaths, it scarred Ginny’s mind everyday. There wasn’t a day when she would think back to those moments, but it made her stronger; she had matured so much from those horrifying things. Ginny had gotten through everyone of those obstacles, but she was still lingering in the pas; Harry’s death…Ron becoming a self indulgent drunk, and Ginny didn’t even know what Hermione or even Luna was up to lately. “But, I’m actually trying to get past the years at Hogwarts. A fresh new start sort of,” she finished with a small smile looking away at the corner of the room. Ginny rarely ever talked about that aspect of her life before. She was the kind of girl who kept things to herself. It was her own business and others didn’t have to know certain disappoints in her life. Ginny raked her fingers through her red hair tucking a few strands behind her ear. She was excited about that day, but really wasn’t looking forward to the work that came after patrolling. Sitting in a desk all day, filing paper was going to drive her crazy after a couple of hours. Luckily she’ll be good enough o be called on special reports. Hearing Jake answer her next question, Ginny turned her full attention on the man next to her. Looking up into his face she grinned upon his words. Being Auror really kept one from having a life. There were so many people in the world, almost too many to protect. “You’re lucky you still don’t live with your parents,” Ginny mentioned sending him a teasing smile. “I’m actually saving up my money for a flat of my own. My brother’s wife just had a baby so I’ve haven’t had much sleep lately.”
Nodding at her last statement, Ginny yawned quietly, covering her mouth with the palm of her hand. Shaking her head she sent Jake another smile shaking her head in disagreement. “I really don’t remember you much from Hogwarts to be honest.” Frowning at her words she smiled apoplectically toward him. Ginny did have many friends, but she couldn’t remember much about anyone else. Grinning at his mentioning of the older Aurors in the business, Ginny shook her head at the thought. She really hadn’t met anyone that was much older than her working in the Ministry. Well, her professors, but those were ex-Aurors. “Don’t worry,” she began with a grin spreading across the corners of her lips. “I won’t tell any of them…actually I haven’t met any of the senior Aurors yet, but I have a feeling I will soon.” With a slight shake of her head, Ginny looked over her shoulder Jake, her mind wondering. He must be a good Auror if he was becoming her mentor. Jake was probably a year older than her, but yet here he was standing at her side ready to guide her. “You must be really good if you’re going to be helping me,” she commented not afraid of telling him her thoughts. Ginny liked to say things that were on her mind. Well only if they were good, unless she was extremely angry and had to say something that would defend herself, or in any different kind of situation. Even though Ginny personality was quite amiable, she had quite a bit of temper in her. She got it from her mother. Molly Weasley always flipped out over anything that her child did wrong. Luckily Ginny hadn’t done anything extremely dangerous…well at least that she purposely meant to do. “I’m just glad to have not been stuck with one of those crabby Aurors that hate new comers.”
They were now walking down the streets of Diagon Alley, turning the corner that lead to Knockturn Alley. Ginny had only been in the Alley a couple of times, but her parent’s forbid her to go. That was when she was younger. Ginny was an adult now and could make her own decisions. Sighing with relief as Jake said he wouldn’t ask a million questions that day Ginny looked sideways at him at his next question. Was her family proud of her? Charlie was far away in Romania with dragons to know about Ginny’s acceptance in Auror Academy, even though they had recently met in Hogsmeade. Bill had his own family matters to deal with. The twins had their shop, and then there was Ron. “Well everything’s been really hectic in my household lately. This is the main reason why I can’t wait until I get my own flat. I’m ready to be on my own,” Ginny began as they descended the steps that lead into the dark alley. Looking around inquisitively at anything out of order before looking over her shoulder at Jake. “They were proud, but my mom still afraid of the danger it might bring. I’ve been through so much worse, what else could there possible be? The Dark Lord is dead and so is Harry. Everything’s at peace…” she began trailing off as she glanced down at her feet. Ginny didn’t want to talk anymore about that subject with Jake. She just wished that Harry didn’t have to die along with Voldemort. Ginny still felt cowardly not being able to say his name. Harry always got mad with her when she couldn’t, but she just didn’t want to bring it up.
“So I heard about the latest attack in Knockturn Alley from the Daily Prophet,” Ginny added in quickly before Jake could have a chance to question her anymore. Staring at one of the shops, she shivered slightly at the dark potions that were being sold in the window display. “I don’t know much other than two people were injured.” Rattling her brain, Ginny tried to remember anything else about the attack, but nothing. “Who do you think could be behind it?” she asked watching a street rat scurrying across their path. This place was certainly giving her the creeps, but she wasn’t going to let Jake figure that out.
