Pagan Mason stared at the page in front of her in boredom as she tried in vain to do her potions homework but she couldn’t for the life of her concentrate. It’s not that she didn’t like potions because it was by far her favourite school subject it’s just that she hated homework; not a new concept when it came school kids of all ages other than those geeks in Ravenclaw. She flicked over the page to finish reading the paragraph on the miss use of Shrinking potions and snorted when it said something about someone drinking too much of the potion and shrinking to a size where no one could find them to give them the antidote. “Idiot” Pagan snorted to herself rolling her eyes and ignoring the annoyed look give to her by the snobby looking Ravenclaw next to her.

Timothy was reading a book on spells, his favorite subject and didn't really read the words, he wasn't even thinking. Timothy didn't eat that day and was feeling a little light headed. Timothy was telling himself ' suck it up man don't look like a fool! your NOT a fool, you can take it.' After a while of feeling light headed he couldn't take it anymore he had to eat something! Timothy got up and gathered his books he was on his way out when he saw Pagan Mason. Timothy remeber Pagan, and could see she was having trouble concentrating on her reading. Timothy went over to where she was sitting and put his hands on the desk, "so can't focus on your potions can you? I told you that spells were better but nope for you it's all about potions."

Pagan had yet again disappeared into a world of her own, the words on the page blurring into weird figures strangely resembling Gryffindor’s being squashed by Hippogriff’s when hands sadly hit the desk near her making her hand jump to the wand next to her. "So can't focus on your potions can you? I told you that spells were better but nope for you it's all about potions." The voice of Timothy Bancroft made her visibly relax. She knew Timothy fairly well, or so she thought, and they were in the same house and year but the one thing they just couldn’t agree on was Potions and Spells. “Don’t do that you jerk” she sighed letting her heartbeat slow back to normal and looking up at him with a slight grin, “Well see the thing about potions is you need brains to make them not just a good vocabulary”

Timothy grinned at her remark and her reaction. Timothy liked to see people jumped and get scared, you could say he loved seeing the fear in people. Timothy was sure she was scared but maybe she was trying to hide it. Timothystood up straight and silently relpied" well between you and me, i just memorize the book i don't really have that big of a vocabulary." Timothy wasn't telling the truth he just wanted to lighten the mood."Okay i wont do that again, i promise!" Timoth wanted to ask hat she was doing later but wan't sure if she would approve of it so he decided maybe another time he would ask.

Samaal slammed his Potions book shut. He could do it with his eyes closed, what was Snape thinking, making the fifth years write on the nine poisons using snake venom? Samaal kept his face blank and stared around the room, expressionless, but for a raised eyebrow. Gryffindors were huddled together at the table nearest to him, laughing heartily. He studied his nails to divert his eyes, they were all stubborn idiots. If Adam were here, he would have sneered and jeered at them. Samaal wrinkled his nose at the thought of Adam and most of the other Slytherins. Greatness wasn't mockery or pride, quite the opposite. Greatness was patience and the deepest form of respect for your enemies. Gryffindor's were too naive and proud to pose any sort of threat or be worth sneering at.
A duo of fellow Slytherins caught his eye, they were seated at the far end of the lounge. "So I caught the Quaffle like this- and it sailed through the hoop. It was beautiful to watch." A Gryffindor fourth year pretended to wipe his eyes on his sleeve, much to the amusement of his listeners. Samaal sighed gently and removed his book from the table. He gently tucked it into his bag and swung the bag over his shoulder. He stalked over to the Slytherin table. "Okay i wont do that again, i promise!" he heard the boy laugh at the table he was heading to. Samaal stopped and was tempted to change his mind and turn around, but he thought of Adam as company, so he strode onwards, fixing a lop-sided smile to his face. Third years could be amusing. He wouldn't have to hear their constant talk of exams and they wouldn't clap Samaal on the shoulder, a thing that annoyed him very much.
"You wouldn't mind if I sat down?" he didn't wait for them to answer, but settled down into a chair besides the girl. "Conversation over there-" he nodded to the table of Gryffindors, "isn't exactly intellectually challenging." He drawled. Samaal studied the third years' faces. A bold-looking boy and a strange, sneery looking girl.

Pagan looked up when someone came over and asked if they could join. It was a 5th year from their house that she had never talked to before. "Yeah sure" she answered with a shrug before adding jokingly and pointed her thumb at Timothy, "But don't expect too much from this guy, and besides intellectual conversations isn't normally in any Griffindor MO's"

Timothy watched as a guy from his house walked over and sat down, all that was going through his head was,; hey buddy, i saw her first just cuz your a fith year doesn't mean you can walk up and take something from a third year! Timothy always got mad when someone older then him always took what he wanted or had. Timothy could tell he was a tipical Slytherin, of course they all were, but this guy seemed more of a slytherin then most of the ones that are first years and call htemselves Slytherin's
Timothy, trying not to seem to mean to his fellow housemate, stared at him and nicely said," Oh, hey no you can sit down, anyways whose really gonna stop you from sitting there?...." Timothy recalling Pagan saying "But don't expect too much from this guy..", Timothy added "... it's not like she can fight really, she just likes reading potion books". Timothy knowing this might upset Pagan, he glanced over at her and gave her a smile that told her, i'm joking don't worry i don't think that so please don't be mad!" hoping she would understand and get that he was only joking about it.

Pagan just grinned and raised an eyebrow at Timothy's comment, her eyes shining with amusement. "Yeah right 'coz being able to read correctly from a book is such as difficult task" she said sarcastically rolling her eyes jokingly, "However do you manage" Pagan had no problem with the 5th year coming over since he just seemed bored with the stupidity coming from the Gryffindor's on the other side and didn't blame him. From her many encounters with Gryffindor's she'd found them to be uninteresting and their insults juts plain boring. In fact the only thing even slightly offensive about their insults was that for all the cruelty and crudeness that Pagan gave them they couldn't even muster up a simple "Your face is so ugly..." which for Pagan made the fights bland and barely worth her time.

Samaal smirked at the two. Was there a trace of jealousity in the boy's face? Jealosity, embarassment and low self-esteem. The three things the typical Slytherin was supposed to enjoy finding in other people. He had ignored their petty exchange in words. "Samaal O'Toole." he said in his slight Irish lilt. "I think I met met you before." he nodded to the girl. "Megan Mason, is that it?" he smiled lop-sidedly. He turned to the boy coolly and observed him. Perhaps Samaal's gaze would make him uncomfortable, like the rest of his schoolmates. They were an interesting pair, but Sam's mind began to wonder. His Quidditch audition. He hoped he would get the beater's place. He had given up swinging bludgers about, it had bored him. Too often had he been sent off the pitch for swinging his bat at keepers. Once the game got going, his blood would start to pump and his eyes bulge with excitement. It was easy for Samaal to loose his temper at that point.
Sam turned back to the girl. She had a cool air and a sarcastic sense of humour. He felt the boy's eyes on him.

"Megan Mason isn't it?" the guy now known as Samaal asked making Pagan smirk. "Close" she shrugged smiling at him in amusement, "Pagan Mason, nobody ever gets it right, in fact they hardly ever believe me when I tell them it really is my name" "And this crazy dude is Timothy Bancroft" she said waving her black painted nails at Tim who was obviously watching Samaal for a reason unknown to Pagan.

Timothy shook his head and remebered Pagan saying something about him so he listened to what she was saying, and acted like he was listening the whole time. Timothy was rather jealous and not jealous, he just wanted to tell Pagan that he had liked her for a long while and he didn't really want to do in front of an audiance. It's not that he was shy but he wanted it to be nice and that kind of stuff girls were into. Timothy smiled and held out his hand to Samaal," Yes, i'm Timothy. Your a fith year right?? I believe i've seen you around." Timothy turned his head back to Pagan and smiled letting her know he was capable of being nice. Timothy couldn't stop thinking about how beautiful he thought pagan was. That was when he thought why don't i just do something, tell her in front of him....whats the worse he could do?"
Timothy smiled and asked " Pagan you like flowers right???" Timothy took out his wand and pointed at a blank spot on the desk Timothy then yelled out "Orchideous!" There were Orchids in a small to medium bunch by Pagan's books. Timothy was hoping that she would like them.

"Pagan you like flowers don't you?" Timothy asked taking Pagan by surprise, she'd definately never been asked that question before, and before she was able to say anything he produced a bunch of orchid flowers next to books. Pagan stared at them for a second before looking between Timothy and Samaal. She wasn't entirely sure how to act, she was only 13, still a kid, what would she know about these things?
"They are pretty nice" she said carefully as she picked them up and examinded them, "Never been much of a flower person but these are pretty nice. Although I've got to admit, ever since my cousin's wedding last year I've had a thing for black and red roses" She raised the flowers up again and took another look at them smiling slightly. They were very pretty but she was at a loss why Timothy would give them to her, in front of a older Slytherin, and why a Slytherin would conjure pretty flowers in the first place. Seconds later a thought struck her, maybe he liked her, as in more than a friend kind of thing. Why she had no idea but it was a possibility. But what to do with this new information baffled her yet again. After quick thinking she decided to just let things play out and see what it was all about, hopefully with as little pain and embarassment as possible.

Samaal's face twisted into a smile. He had obviously walked in on something private. "Oh dear." He crooned softly as Pagan was given a bunch of flowers. Giving flowers was empty, meaningless. Samaal rarely gave a girl, or anybody in that matter, anything. Petty gifts were a waste of time. Sam smirked at the two lovebirds and thought of getting up and leaving their table. They were now becoming tedious, but he remained seated, looking from the one face to the other, the corner of his mouth curled in amusement. Pagan wasn't the prettiest girl he had ever seen, but it would have given him great satisfaction to ask her to the Ball in front of that Timothy boy. Ah, the Ball, his mind wandered. Adam hadn't hesitated in asking two girls out in the same week. He had asked Samaal to keep one girl entertained while he spent one half of the date with the other girl. Adam was just another pretentious Slytherin, the type that really annoyed Samaal.
Sam's thoughts snapped back to the present and he fixed his sneer back onto his face. The young ones are full of surprises. He rearranged his facial expression to one of impatience and distaste, and pulled out his book. The seven most important venoms are those extracted from the roof of a serpents mouth. They have not yet run through the actual glands, so the poison is less rifined. The serpent should be young preferably, yet no younger than 2 years old. The paragraph dragged on and on, growing ever tedious. Samaal glanced at the two at his table. If there was nothing left for him here, he would snap his book shut and go up to find his friends.

Timothy could tell he had either moved too fast or that she was in fact not fond of hima dn decided, well, i tried and i can't believe i failed miserably!. Timothy stood up straight and tried to keep the anger from failing from his face, and politly said, " well, i guess i'll be off now i can see that you ovisouly weren't prepared and i moved a little fast so i will go back to what it was i was doing before i came over here. Good-day Samaal". Timothy walked back to his table he was sitting at and thought that maybe he shouldn't of went over there! It was a mistake girls aren't part os studing so why did he go over the while she and himself were studing, and of course that guy came over and had to of put preasure on Timothy. Timothy was getting more and more angry the more he thought of failing and he wanted so bad to jus blow something up! Timothy didn't realize it but he had banged his fist onthe table and was about to pull out hisa wand when he finally got his sense back.
Timothy grabbed his books and stood up and started to walk towards the exit. Timothy stopped behind Pagan and thought of how he had tried to impress her by showing her that just because he's a Slytherin that he isn't all that mean that he could be a nice guy to be around. but he could see that that must not be what she likes in a guy so he decided to just go back to being the Hatred Slytherin that 1st yrs either want to be like or be affraid of.

Pagan didn't even jump when he slammed his fist on the table. She was used to violent bursts of anger so it didn't surprise her and besides she preferred it to prissy flowers. She was a Slytherin so flowers were definitly not the right thing to give, and in front of an older kid. She admit or show it but she was kind of embarassed, flattered like any young girl would be but also embarrassed. She watched Timothy as he walked away angrily before turning around looking furious. She had seen that look a lot in her life so she made sure her wand was nearby just in case something happened which she was sure it would.

Timothy realized that Pagan had watched him get up and leave and he decided to tell her how he felt and even if that turned into dueling he didn't care becasue that was one of his specialties! He didn't want to hurt someone he liked but if it had to be, then it had to be done. " Hey Pagan, you know what....." Timothy couldn't do it even though inside he was angry for looking like a fool and failing to tell her he liked her, the right way, he couldn't insult her." maybe we could talk later straighten this out and it could be when we are alone? you mind?" Timothy hated the fact that he sounded like a hufflepuff just then but he didn't want to stop talking to her and he defitnatly still liked her, so he decided that if they could talk then every thing would be ok. Timothy knew that doing that in front of an older person and even giving a slytherin flowers wasn't really the best thing to do, he wanted to tell her why he did that and thought he should do that when they were alone.
Timothy waited a couple of seconds for Pagan's answer but wasn't sure if he wanted to hear her say no i never want to talk to you, you none slytherin although she wouldn't say that he didn't like the thought of failure, especially twice in one day. Timothy began to turn towards the door again as he was doing this he was thinking that maybe he should talk to buttonz he had helped him out with problems like this before and timothy was sure that he got himself into a pretty good sized problem, plus buttonz was the guy to talk to if anyone. Buttonz always kept a secret if it was ment to be kept, and he also gave good advice.
Timothy knew that Samaal was probably laughing inside and didn't care, he didn't know Timothy and anyone that laughed at him who didn't even know him was just down right pathetic to him, Timothy refered to his foster father who had always told him if you ever laugh, insult, or even fight with someone you should always have background on them that way you can backanyting you got up, and be strong don't let them get in your way!" Timothy could still see the way his father would look at him as he told him this, he always had that same angry, your in trouble and nothing you say or do will change it so just confess NOW! look. Even if Timothy wasn't in trouble that look would always be on his face.
Timothy was wishing that Pagan would give him another chance to prove that he really did like her and didn't want them to stop talking if that was a possibility.
