Olivia smiled as she waited for her little sister with a cigarette in her mouth. She was at the Leaky Cauldron sitting at one of the tables. Laura, her mother would have never allowed Elle to go with her today if she knew. Elle had simply told her that she was to do her shopping with one of her pureblood friends. She ate the story up like fish bait. Laura gave Elle one thousand galleons of pocket money to spend. No thirteen year old girl needed nearly as much, but Olivia expected Laura to go all out on her favorite little girl. She loved how she took so kindly to Elle, but never payed any decent attention to her oldest daughter Olivia. Elle and Olivia were almost exactly alike personality wise, so there was no reason for Laura to hate Olivia so much and at the same time look so lovingly at Elle. It made no sense.
Olivia shrugged off the thoughts of her mother and smiled as Elle entered through the door, she looked very pretty in her ripped blue jeans and white sleeveless t-shirt. Elle noticed her too, and walked over to her with a smile.
"Hey Elle. You have your list?" Olivia said, putting out the cigarette. She knew Elle didn't like it when she smoked. Her mother didn't like it either, but Elle was different. Elle had earned respect from Olivia that her mother would probably never earn. Laura Dawson had to understand that if she kept treating her daughter like dung, she isn't going to respect her one bit. Trying to put her down or ignoring her completely wasn't going to earn her an ounce of Olivia's respect. She sighed as she held a seat out for Elle.
"I sure do! But can I get a butterbeer first? I'm thirsty, and there weren't any at the house." Olivia wasn't surprised. Butterbeers were Olivia's favorite drink, there couldn't possibly be any around. It was just Laura's way of getting the unwanted child out of the house. Olivia ran the thought through her head a few times. The unwanted child. That's what Olivia was. She was the oldest, born before Laura or Martin were ready for kids. They were very young when Olivia was born. It made sense that she was an accident. Brian and Elle were their real children, they were the Dawson's' chance to fix every mistake they had made with Olivia. She hoped Elle never turned out like her mother. She knew Elle wouldn't. Her heart hadn't been turned to ice yet. Olivia knew she was the one that had to melt all the ice that would ever build up in Elle's heart. She had to undo what her parents had incorrectly done. There was no way she was letting Elle become like that. No way in this life or the life after that. It wasn't going to happen.
"That's perfectly fine. We'll take it with us. I want to go somewhere else after this." Elle agreed and she walked off to order herself a butterbeer. She came up with a glass full of it.
"Come on!" She said. "I want to get to the pet shop before all the best animals are gone!" Elle pulled Olivia by the arm and she laughed. She couldn't understand why Elle loved animals so much. It must have been the Hufflepuff in her. Elle was a third year Hufflepuff that absolutely adored animals, even though she never had the permission from Laura to get one. Laura despised animals to a point of cruelty. For Elle's third year, however, Laura was forced to buy her daughter a pet. She wanted to keep in constant contact with Elle during the school year to make sure she wasn't socializing with the wrong people. It was basically just a quiet way to keep Olivia away from Elle. Olivia didn't care anymore. Try as she might, Laura was not going to separate Olivia from her little sister. They had both made sure of that.
