Carey had been stuck in business meetings all day and she was getting pretty antsy. She had been a bit freer lately, and it was starting to get to her. Her father had started to realize it and he was trying to nip it in the bud, but Carey wasn’t having that. She was finally growing into herself without the whole idea that she had to be the business woman all the time. It was still a huge part of her, yes, but that didn’t mean it had to be the only part of her. Carey was realizing this, and her father hated it. Mallory, her sister, loved it. Jeremy had no opinion on it, and her mother? Carey’s mother was just mirroring her father. She was so weak. Carey hated that, and she had about had it with her mother’s spineless ways…but she wouldn’t tell her that. She wouldn’t ever tell her mother how she felt about her actions. Carey was open minded, but she wasn’t cruel and heartless.
“Well, I believe that’s all the meetings for today, Carey,” her father was saying as he packed up his briefcase and the clients filed out of the board room. Carey nodded and stood, straightening her papers and then setting them in her briefcase, too. “We’re going to head back to the house, and go over the books for this month,” he told her as she lifted her briefcase off the table. She looked at him, sizing her father up. He looked much more intimidating than he was, “Actually, I already did that last night. I’ve cleared your schedule completely past these meetings, Father, so you and Mother can spend some time together. I’ve got to head into Diagon Alley for some school supplies,” David looked at his daughter and then nodded slowly before leading the way out of the boardroom, “Fine, but tomorrow we’re back on schedule.” Carey wasn’t surprised to find that her father wasn’t thankful for the time she had set aside for him and her mother. He wasn’t a family man. He was a business man, through and through.
They made their way out of the building and apparated (Carey by side along) once they reached the apparition destination. Instantly they arrived home and David went into the sitting room where her mother was. Carey set her briefcase down on the table by the door and made her way up into her room to change out of her business clothes. She slipped into a pair of jeans and a comfortable t-shirt with a pair of flats and then grabbed her wand just in case. She dodged her sister and her mother and headed toward the fireplace, throwing floo powder down and stating Diagon Alley as her destination. She was soon spit out of the fireplace at the Leaky Cauldron and instantly Carey looked around the pub. She really hadn’t any need to get her school supplies yet, she couldn’t considering the letters hadn’t been sent out yet. She was just lying to her father to get out of the house for a bit. She was getting better at that.
Carey sat down at the bar and ordered a butterbeer, setting down a sickle as the bottle appeared in front of her. She took a sip of it and stared into space, lost in her own thoughts for a moment, that she didn’t realize someone had approached her and was trying to get her attention for one reason or another. Finally, she snapped out of her daze and looked over, “Sorry?”
