“For heaven sakes, run a comb through that hair of yours, you look like a hoodlum.”
Eric rolled his eyes and sighed, running a hand through his hair and sending a sarcastic smile at his grandfather. Tierney Caolan scoffed and adjusted his robes. He was a tall man, distinguished and handsome, a very youthful looking despite his age. He grabbed Eric’s arm roughly and pushed him ahead. Eric stared at him angrily. The two were fighting this morning over the fact that Eric was not allowed to visit Mack this summer, and moreso the fact Keifer and Marianne were not coming to see their son for another week.
“I’ve been at school for months, and you won’t even let me see my own damn parents?” Eric had said.
“As long as you are under my roof, you will do as I say,” Tierney replied casually, but held a commanding tone.
“I never asked to live here! I’m a prisoner…”
Eric folded his arms and stood in front of the fireplace. They were traveling by Floo powder, since Eric was not able to Apparate just yet. He longed for his sixth year where he would learn the art of Apparation; traveling by Floo made him sick everytime. Larke, on of the Caolan house elves stood holding the Floo powder for the two wizards. Today, they were to go into Diagon Alley, evidently, Tierney was meeting a very important man in the Leaky Cauldron and Eric was to tag along (as usual). Tierney shoved past Eric and helped himself to the Floo, before stepping into the fireplace and clearly saying, “Diagon Alley!”
Eric sighed and pinched his own Floo, before Larke replied kindly, “Safe travels Master Eric. I hope you enjoy your trip to Diagon Alley.” Eric smiled at Larke, who had always been one of Eric’s friends, if that’s what you wanted to call it. Larke was the only person on the estate that Eric felt he could talk to. In a way, they were very similar, they had to stay in this prison until Tierney decided to set them free. “Thank you Larke.”
Eric followed suit and stepped into the fireplace, shouting his destination and ending up in what he believed was Flourish and Blotts. Tierney was chatting up another blueblood and gruffly introduced his grandson. Eric mumbled a greeting and took the opportunity to excuse himself. He knew his grandfather appreciated the gesture when he did not argue and let the boy go off on his own. Eric exited the shop and came into the busy Alley where many people were bustling about with packages and children. He wondered if any of his school mates were in Diagon Alley today, it would make nice to have some company.
