Amber sighed as she sat in the library, the silence deafening her senses. She hated the library, which was a bit odd considering she loved books more than anything. Reading was her favorite past time, but spending that time in the library? Not so much. She would rather sit in her dorm room, soft music playing, or in the Student Lounge where so many students' voices and laughter act as a background noise. Extreme silence is too much, she's always needed some sort of noise to read to. Amber sighed, again, her impatience and annoyance increasing. Not only did Professor Miller, her astronomy teacher, assign a very difficult assignment, but she had to assign study partners! Amber was the sort of person who worked best when she was alone. Whenever in a group, she always seemed to get a worse grade than if she had been alone.
Even so, it would not have been quite so bad for the Gryffindor if she had been paired with Ryann Taylor, one of her best friends. However, with Professor Miller's words, Amber Hess had been paired with Kennedy Valek, a very conceited Slytherin boy. Amber wasn't the type to judge, but she has slipped before. Her hatred for most things Slytherin was bred from house to house rivalry, not from genuine dislike for his person. He did seem like a spoiled brat, but Amber didn't have proof. She hadn't spoke one word to the boy in her entire time at Hogwarts. They were in the same year, but that Gryffindor vs. Slytherin rivalry was too embedded in most of the students.
Amber pulled out her miniature mirror and checked her make up. It wasn't that she liked looking at herself, she just hated having smudges and what not to embarrass her. She licked her lips, noticing a severe lack of lip gloss and reached into her book bag, intending to apply some more. She was incredibly bored sitting there, waiting for Kennedy to meet her so they could study. She sighed as she rubbed the light pink gloss on her already pink lips. In many ways, Amber didn't need make up, but she refused to go without it (that is, unless she was too lazy to put it on, which did happen rather frequently).
