A frustrated sigh came from Amber as she slammed her books into her bag. Potions class had just ended, which was something to be thankful for, but the class itself had been an angry one. First, she was late. So there's ten points from Gryffindor automatically. Second, the assignment was difficult enough to frustrate her. Third, because she was late, she didn't finish the potion and that wasn't good at all. Finally, the homework was going to take up all night and well into the next day. Amber hated Potions more than any other class and it was confusing to her as to why she had to take it all. How could Potions be a requirement for a NEWT in Journalism? It makes no sense and it is very annoying for the sixth year!
Amber slung her bag over her shoulder and tried her best to escape the classroom before Snape could call her back for some stupid reason. For once in her life at Hogwarts, she was lucky enough to escape successfully. Usually, she would hear that chilling voice scream "Hess!" and she would have to reluctantly turn right around and go back to hell. However, she was free to go off to lunch, where she could see her friends and relax. Finally time to have some fun!
Entering the Great Hall, Amber instantly spotted Ethan Jacobs sitting with Carsen. Her first thought was to go sit with him, but she bit it down. Ezzie had to be around somewhere and she didn't want to be around them both together. Ever since last Friday, when she had sat with Ethan during Lunch, she couldn't seem to stop thinking about him, which was rather annoying. Him having a girlfriend was the first problem and that made Amber feel lousy. Liking a boy who was taken was the first mistake any girl could make, the next would be acting on it. At least she wasn't that stupid. He loved Ezzie and that means that Amber had no chance, which wasn't too bad. Amber could always find a new guy to consider, but for the mean time she can't stand seeing them together.
So, her eyes drifted to the Ravenclaw table for another friend. It didn't take much to find her, either. Sicilia Marie sat there with a few other friends, but saving a spot for yours truly. Amber started over to the table, trying not to look over at Ethan. She made it without and second thoughts and sat down next to Sicilia, her prefect badge glittering in the light. Sicilia looked up from her food and looked at her friend next to her. A smile came to her lips.
"Hey girly," She said as a way of hello. Her smile dropped when she saw Amber's depressed face, "Ok... what's wrong?" Amber sighed and grabbed some food.
"I kinda like this guy, who is taken and it's making me depressed." She turned to Sisi and winked, who instantly giggled at the prospect of new gossip. Her eyes glittered and she sat up straighter.
"Who is it?" Excitement was in her voice, which made Amber roll her eyes and take a bite of salad in silence. Sisi whimpered at her friend's silence. Amber giggled and looked at Sisi with a feigned serious face.
"You can't tell anyone." Her eyes narrowed when Sisi nodded, "No really... because if you do I might get in trouble with the girlfriend and that won't be fun." Sicilia laughed, thinking it was a joke, but Amber sighed and looked at her food.
"OK OK! I won't tell, I promise." Sisi said with sincerity.
"OK!" Amber said, turning back to her friend and giggling a bit, "It's Ethan Jacobs." Sicilia looked confused, so Amber went into detail about Ethan and Ezzie's relationship ups and downs and how they met. Sicilia listened with wide eyes, as she usually did, and when Amber had finished she was instantly asking questions.
"Well do you think you have a chance?"
Amber shrugged, "Not really. I mean him and Ezzie are soul mates, but he does flirt with me a lot, which gives me hope, because he seems to like me, you know?" Sicilia nodded and leaned in a bit.
"You should go for it," She said in a hushed voice, "If he acts like he likes you... go for it!" Amber bit her lip.
"I thought about it, but I don't think I should. Ezzie seems like a nice person. I don't want to do that to her."
"Ok... then go for it the next time they break up. It seems like they go off and on a lot." Amber nodded at her friend's suggestion.
"Maybe, but only if it seems like they really won't go back out again." Sicilia nodded and the two giggled. Boys was a prime subject between the two, but they stopped talking at that point and started eating lunch.

Ezzie smiled as she sat on Ethan’s lap at the Gryffindor table for lunch. There was plenty of room of course, but it was just fun to be close by Ethan’s side. Carson was sitting across from them, shoveling food into his mouth like a starved puppy. She laughed at a joke he told. Everything was perfect. She had the perfect boyfriend, perfect friends, a perfect job, and even the perfect school. It was the total opposite of the life she had been living before. Before Ethan and her fame, she had been a little homeless girl living on the streets of London struggling to make the money to go to school. She spent days at a time working at the hotel sometimes that she had absolutely no time for fun and games, and silly things like boys. Ezzie had always been mature for her age. She handled things with reason and understanding, not at all like the fourteen year old girl she really was. When people looked at Ezzie Mendez, they saw a little girl; a little girl that looked much younger than fourteen years old. She was considered cute, just like a little bunny. No one would have ever expected her secret life as a homeless little girl. No one would have ever known.
She kissed Ethan’s cheek and turned to Carson, who was telling them about a fight he had gotten into during the summer with a friend of his old rival. That was just like Carson. He was always getting angry and getting into fights. He never even thought about talking it out with the person in question before he balled his hands up into fists and started throwing punches left and right. That was the complete opposite of Ezzie, of course. If she had a problem with someone, she approached them first before acting…most of the time anyway. Ezzie smiled, glad things were back t normal with Ezzie and Ethan. This morning, they had been relaxing on the grounds and having a good time when her friend had told her about a supposed affair Ethan was having with a muggle girl. She told Ezzie that the girl in question knew about the secret and sent him love letters frequently. Ezzie had been foolish enough to believe her. She approached Ethan in a very angry manner and they had a talk. Ethan told her he wasn’t dating everyone but her and all was well. Ezzie couldn’t believe she had been so foolish as to believe such a story. She trusted Ethan, and she knew he loved her enough to never cheat on him.
She noticed Professor Sprout walk up to the staff table and she got up from her seat, making sure to kiss Ethan fondly on the cheek before leaving. She had been meaning to talk to Sprout about a question she had from her last Herbology lesson. She practically skipped to the staff table, not knowing that almost every male eye was following her to the table. Ezzie had unknowingly become very popular with the boys of Hogwarts over the summer. There were a few brave boys who dared to approach her, but they had learned by now Ethan wouldn’t have it. She talked to Sprout, who smiled as she answered Ezzie’s question. She skipped back over to the Gryffindor table, but stopped dead in her tracks right by the Ravenclaw table. There were two girls there, and one was whispering excitingly about how Ethan Jacobs had flirted with her. She gasped quietly. So the rumor was true! Ezzie’s eyes narrowed, and she stalked over to the Gryffindor table, angrier than ever before. She yanked Ethan by the wrists, and pulled him into the nearest empty classroom. She couldn’t believe the nerve of him! He was taken! He had no right to go prancing around and sending the wrong signals to other girls. She slammed the door shut, leaving Ethan to sit on a desk. Ezzie was too angry to sit. She had to see if this rumor was true. Ezzie wasn’t so sure anymore if Ethan could really be trusted.
((I'll be posting with Ethan next..so you won't have to reply until that one is up.))

Ethan laughed as Carson told a story about the fight he was in last summer. It was serious business, but Carson always tended to make serious things very funny. Ezzie sat happily on his lap, even though there was plenty of room at the table. He was getting a few dirty looks from the staff table, but he didn’t care, having Ezzie with him made it all worth it. She was just a bit heavy, but Ethan could handle it. He was a pretty strong kid. He turned to look at Carson, who was eating his lunch (and possibly the lunches of quite a few other students.) Ethan sighed as Ezzie’s weight was lifted from his lap and she skipped happily over to the staff table. Ezzie was so dedicated to her work, he couldn’t understand why. In Ethan’s fourth year, he had barely achieved a passing grade in his subjects. He didn’t care about school nearly as much as Ezzie did. He couldn’t understand it. She had however, helped him immensely since school started. They had spent hours in the common room before a test, and with Ezzie around, Ethan passed every exam and completed each homework assignment exceptionally. Ezzie was amazing, and he was so glad to have her back in his life…for now. He turned over to Carson McGreggor and out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a girl by the name of Amber Hess walk into the Great Hall and sit at the Ravenclaw table, even though she was a Gryffindor. This definitely wasn’t unusual, as Carson was a Hufflepuff and yet he was still sitting with Ethan, but somehow it seemed odd the way she concentrated on her destination, almost as if she was avoiding making eye contact with someone. He merely shrugged off the thought, but Carson turned from his plate (for the first time since he had arrived there) and glanced at the table where Amber had sat. He turned to Ethan and smiled.
“You weren’t checking out that Amber Hess girl, right?” He asked, as a large spoonful of soup entered his open mouth. “No, I wasn’t checking her out. I’ve got a girlfriend, remember?” Carson merely laughed and put his fork down on the now empty plate to go grab more chicken. “That’s never stopped you before. C’mon Ethan, you don’t have to lie to me about it. Save the act for your girlfriend, thickhead.” He said as he gulped down more food. Ethan laughed. Carson had always known what was on Ethan’s mind and what he was going to say before he said it. They had simply known each other that long. “Well, I’ll admit, she is rather pretty. Not to mention she’s just about the only girl at Hogwarts who looks good in braces. I think she’s actually the only one with them as well.” Ethan had definitely chosen the wrong time to say this, for Ezzie had appeared out of nowhere and pulled him harshly by the wrists. She led him into the nearest empty classroom and forced him to sit down. He had no idea Ezzie harbored so much strength. He knew she had worked hard over the years, but he had no idea she could force her boyfriend to do such things. He sat on a desk, feeling strangely like he was a convict going through an interrogation. Ezzie waved her wand and said a spell Ethan didn’t know, but he guessed it was something to muffle the sound that would soon be emitting from this room.
“WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO GO AROUND FLIRTING WITH OTHER GIRLS! I WAS OVER AT THE RAVENCLAW TABLE JUST NOW AND I HEARD A GIRL TALKING ABOUT HOW YOU FLIRTED WITH HER! DO YOU FANCY THIS OTHER GIRL, ETHAN? BECAUSE MAYBE IF YOU LIKE HER BETTER THAN ME, YOU CAN DATE HER INSTEAD!” Ezzie screamed. Ethan wondered which girl she was talking about. Then he realized it. She was talking about Amber Hess! He knew there was something odd about the way she acted around him. He should have seen it before. Had it not been for the fact that Ethan was in a heated argument at the moment, he would have been flattered. Now he was just angry. He knew Ezzie would have normally been okay with something as harmless as flirting. There was something wrong with her. She didn’t seem quite right. Ethan would have been worried, but he was just a bit too angry to care at the moment. Ethan’s anger levels were rising, and when it started, there was just no stopping it. He stood up from the desk and raised himself to his full height. “YOU KNOW WHAT, EZZIE? YOU ARE WAY TOO EMOTIONAL FOR ME! THE SECOND YOU HEAR SOME COCK AND BULL STORY ABOUT ME DATING OTHER PEOPLE, YOU GO NUTS. WELL YOU KNOW WHAT, I CAN’T TAKE THIS ANYMORE! I’VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR ISSUES! WE’RE OVER EZZIE, AND THIS TIME, IT’S FOR GOOD!” Ethan stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. He had had enough of Ezzie Mendez. This time, their break-up would stick. They weren’t going to go through this again. It was better for the both of them. Ethan took a deep calming breath and straightened himself out. He walked back into the Hall and had an idea. Instead of going back to eat lunch with Carson, Ethan decided he’d pass by the Ravenclaw table and say hello to his friend Amber. He passed a handful of people he barely knew (but they seemed to think he was their best friend) and finally sat down in between Amber and her friend. He didn’t know her, but he did see her hanging around Amber a lot. Interrupting their conversation seemed to be a bit rude, but somehow, he didn’t think they would care. “So Amber, You will never guess what happened today.” He said with a charming smile.

Amber was busy taking a rather large bite out of her ham and cheese sandwhich when Sicilia choked on her own. Amber swallowed and giggled at her friend's surprised face, but was confused as to what she was surprised about. Her eyes were following something behind Amber, who looked just in time to see Ezzie dragging Ethan out of the Great Hall. Even though Amber couldn't see her face, she knew that Ezzie was extremely angery. She bit her lip. Hopefully Amber hadn't done anything to start this. She was usually doing that without even realizing it. Her mind raced at sudden possibilities, but she shook them out of her head. Ethan and Ezzie were constantly breaking up and getting back together. Why would he ever go for her anyway? She turned to Sicilia, who had finally stopped choking and managed to get her composure.
"Wonder what's wrong." She said with a sly smile. Amber rolled her shockingly blue eyes and nudged Sisi.
"If there is anything wrong, I doubt that they'll break up." Sicilia shook her head.
"I dunno," she said with seriousness in her eyes, "she looked pretty pissed. I think this might be the end." Amber shook her head firmly. She wouldn't let her mind carry her away with possibilities that won't happen.
"Even if they did break up they wouldn't stay that way. You know how many times they've gotten back to together in the past month? No... they won't break up." She was sure of it, but Sisi wasn't.
"I think he likes you, though." Amber sighed and turned to her friend with frustration in her eyes.
"No he doesn't!" Sicilia laughed at her annoyance, which caused Amber to giggle a bit as well. They smiled at eachother.
"I bet he's going to come right back and sit with us, turn to you and say something charming as a way to show that he really does want you instead of that emotional train wreck," Sicilia said with a giggle in her eyes. Amber smiled and shook her head. The joke was a funny one, until suddenly Ethan did come back into the Great Hall, did sit right between Sicilia and Amber, and did turn to her to say something charming. Sicilia's jaw dropped behind Ethan and Amber's heart instantly jump started. She didn't know what to say to his flirting smile and suggestive eyes.
"Um... what?" She said with a slight smile. It was all she could muster in her surprise.

Ethan smiled at Amber, knowing that her friend was staring in shock at what had just happened. He was used to this kind of thing; it was one of his most popular responses. Ethan would notice a girl talking to her friend from across the room. He’d walk up to her and say something charming, meanwhile the girl’s friend was flipping out like this girl was or smiling and giggling just behind him. He’d then ask the girl out and find an excuse to leave for just a moment before the girl would respond. He’d come back and the girl would practically squeal the word yes and they would walk up leaving the friend alone to go gossip about what had happened with other girls in their little clique. It was rather cute, but it was a bit too common. Ethan supposed it was his fault though, after all, he had been the one to make a routine out of asking girls out in front of their friends. The only downside to this was that the friend usually told anyone who would listen, causing the entire school to buzz with excitement at Ethan’s latest girlfriend. Last year, he had gone through this routine pretty much every other week, and had become very skilled at various ways of charming the girls he met. Some had even named him Prince Charming. It was quite a funny nick name to be sure, but Ethan wasn’t sure he liked being compared to a story book character. He took a deep breath and pretended to look nervous about what he was about to say. In truth, Ethan was never really nervous when he asked a girl out. It had become nothing but a game, a mere test of whether he would actually like this one or not. Ethan tended to jump around from girl to girl, until he finally found the right one. Ezzie had been the right one…for a while. Then she became all emotional and overprotective…and extremely paranoid and jealous. Now he was back to skipping around from girl to girl hoping one of them would mean something…like Ezzie once did.
He gave Amber a flirtatious smile as he spoke the words that would officially end his relationship with Ezzie. Everyone knew that once someone outside the couple knew of the big break-up, the dead was done and they were no longer a couple. “Me and Ezzie are officially over. I was getting tired of that emotional jealous train wreck and I decided there are better fish in the sea. Fish like Amber Hess.” He added as he took a bite of the chicken he had just picked up from the middle of the table. “So, how about I take you out. Hogsmeade, next weekend around one?” In the corner of his mind, Ethan remembered Ezzie had an appointment with her agent at that very time in that very town on that very same day. Ethan and Amber were bound to bump into Ezzie. Ethan’s lips curled into another smile. Ezzie would surely get a sneak peak at what a real relationship should be like. Hopefully she would finally get it into her thick little head that Ethan could be a one girl type of guy. Hopefully he could get that message across to her next weekend. “Well, I’ll let you think about that while I go have a little chat with my friend Carson over there. He’s been dying to know what I’m doing over here. I’ll be right back.” Ethan smirked as he walked over to the Gryffindor table where Carson was waiting with a confused stare.
“I thought you didn’t like Amber?” Carson said with a sly smile. “I didn’t…but that was before Ezzie broke up with me once again. Now I’m free to check out Amber if I want to. I’ve actually just asked her out. Maybe we can double. You can get a date with Casey, I’m sure that would get Ezzie angry.” He winked over in Amber’s direction as he picked up a biscuit and left the table. He didn’t see Ezzie, but he was sure she’d be pissed when she heard. Hopefully he’d get to see the look on her face when she found out. He made his way back to his temporary seat at the Ravenclaw table and sat himself down once more. “So…how about it Amber?”

The shock of Ethan appearing so soon after Sicilia’s joke had caused Amber to hesitate and use a slight smile to hide her surprise. However, she recovered quickly and was soon using a friendly smile to compensate. His next words shocked her more than before, but her face only showed a fraction of the true impact. Her eyes widened a bit and she shook her head just a bit as if saying “no way!”
Amber wasn’t one to show very many of her true emotions. Instead, she used cute smiles and jokes to hide them. It was a fault in herself that she wasn’t too proud of. A habit, if you will. Her tendency to shove her emotions deep inside herself where they could only collect and finally, explode was nothing short of damaging. And now, as Amber sat next to Ethan listening intently, was no exception. Inside, her heart beat just a tad faster and her mind raced with a million feelings and thoughts all running at once. None of this showed on her face. How she managed this so well was a complete mystery.
Her confusion and shock disappeared instantly with his next words. The reference to fish and the sea was instantly understood and Amber felt her smile widen with sincerity and a giggle come to her lips. She couldn’t help being flattered, but hated how her smile showed so much metal. Her lips closed to cause a smaller, but just as sweet smile.
Her eyes watched him take a piece of chicken from the table and pop it into his mouth, completely comfortable made her smile again, showing off her “wonderful” braces. She didn’t hide them this time, but listened to his offer with wide eyes. He was so casual about the whole thing that Amber wondered if he really meant it. Was he forcing himself to be so casual? Or was he just comfortable around her? The mystery would have to wait to be solved, however. Ethan insisted that she think about it while he said a quick word to Carsen and stood, walking back to the Gryffindor table. Amber’s jaw fell a bit, so that she nearly gawking at him as he walked away.
The moment they were alone, Sicilia was all over the girly aspect of giggling and such, but Amber was a bit more mature about the whole thing. What would happen if she did go out with him? It was only one date, didn’t really mean anything, but it did mean that he and Ezzie were over. Unless, she was being used to get back at his now ex girlfriend. Did she want to trust him? Her thoughts where interrupted by Sicilia’s begging and pleading.
“Amber! Stop thinking about it too much and just do it. I can tell by the way your eyes are narrowed that you’re thinking way too much about it.” Amber sighed and gave one of her looks. This particular one said “please stop acting like a little kid” and Sicilia took the hint. Amber bit her lip and finally smiled at her friend as her decision was reached.
“What are you going to do?” Sicilia whispered suddenly, but Amber didn’t have time to answer. Ethan was already back and taking his seat between the two girls. His eyes were questioning and his smile just as flirtatious as ever. Amber lowered her eyelashes and leaned forward a bit, playing the “flirt card.”
“I suppose I could manage,” her smile showed her joke and her eyes glinted.
