August was tired. Not physically tired. Emotionally tired. He felt as though he had nothing left to give to the world. He had given everything. August had tried everything he could think of to get his brothers to like each other. They could barely stand each other. August had tried to keep his parents together. And now his mother was entrapped in their home because of her... accident. It seemed like everything that he touched or tried to fix just fell to pieces. He was tired of it. Sitting in the Ravenclaw common room he wanted desperately to talk to one of his classmates. But all they seemed to want to talk about was their latest homework assignment or what grade Snape gave them on their essay about worm guts. Ugh! Didn't Ravenclaws think of anything else? Didn't they realise that more was at stake than just grades?
He finally gave up his coveted seat near the fireplace to exit the common room. He needed some time away from the brainy students. He really wanted to see some Hufflepuffs. They always supported you no matter what you got on a stupid essay. August sometimes wondered if the Sorting Hat had put him in the wrong house. He always supposed that it was because he spent so much time in his head. He often over analysed every little decision in his life. So much so that much of life had passed him by, or at least that is how he felt. He had spent so much time worrying about his family, who was worrying about August? No one. He walked down the staircase that lead to the Ravenclaw Tower while thinking of a place to go. He wished that he could enter the common rooms of other houses but alas, he could not. The only place he could think of was The Student Lounge. Surely there would be some people who wanted to inter-house mingle.
Entering the Lounge he saw that his suspicions were correct. They were quite a few people in there. All the houses were represented too. Unfortunately, no one that he recognised. He cursed them all silently. It was not their fault that he didn't recognise any of them of course. But it would have been nice if he did. He walked through the room hoping to see a face that looked familiar. Well, they all looked familiar. They were all trapped inside the castle together. You started to recognise people by face. If not but name. But that didn't mean you wanted to talk to them. As he walked by the groups of students he caught snatches of conversation. "Did you hear about Fiona and Kennedy?" "Theo beat that Gary guy to a pulp!" "I read that article about Ezzie the other day..." He was passing by the fireplace now, all the seats closest were filled. August continued to search for a place to sit. Maybe if he made himself available, someone would walk through the door wanting to talk to him. He spotted a small table with two vacant seats. He sat down and opened up his book bag. He might as well. But after reading the same sentence four times in his History of Magic textbook, he gave up. He looked up and let his eyes glaze over as he thought of his family.
