Ethan yawned as he woke up from a long peaceful sleep. It was about twelve thirty, the earliest he'd ever woken up in the longest time. (Three days to be exact.) It had only been three days since he arrived back from Hogwarts, and he was already bored out of his mind. Most of his friends were on holiday, which left him to roam about the streets on his skateboard. That was probably what he was going to do all day today anyway. His friends didn't get back until at least tomorrow. He rose from his bed and dressed himself in a decent pair of jeans and a plain white t-shirt. He brushed his teeth and looked in the mirror.
"God you get more good looking every day, Ethan." He said to himself. He put on some deodorant and walked downstairs. He picked up his wallet and his skateboard and grabbed a piece of toast from his mother's plate.
"I'm going out mum, I'll be back later."
"Don't forget your jacket, honey!" Ethan smiled as he walked out and pretended he hadn't heard her. He popped some gum in his mouth and set off on his skateboard. He figured he'd visit the local diner and grab himself some breakfast (or lunch) before he left for wherever it was he would be going later. He walked in, had a quick conversation with one of the waiters, and walked up to the counter. There was only one other girl standing at the counter. Ethan read the sign right in front of her that read "Lunch Break, back in five." Ethan glanced at the girl standing next to him. He recognized her from Hogwarts, she was in his year, and his house.
"Hey, I'm Ethan. You look familiar. Do you go to that special school too?" He said glancing at the muggles near him that were listening in on his conversation.
"I'm going into fifth year there, the brave house. I think I've seen you in some of my classes before. But then again, how could I forget such a beautiful face!" He smiled and noticed that Tony, the man at the counter had returned from his lunch break.
"I'll have the usual, Tony, with a side of chips." Ethan glanced at the girl from Hogwarts and said, "Oh and whatever this fine young lady wants is on me." Ethan winked in the girl's direction.

Maryn was restless. Nothing she did made her feel any less bored. All she could do was sit in her room and stare at the suitcase laid out on Mercy’s bed. The fact that her sister was moving around the world still hadn’t sunk in much. It was weird really. Mercy was supposed to be the dependable one. The responsible one, but she had changed over the months so very much. She didn’t need to live in Liverpool anymore. While Maryn accepted this, it was still weird to know that her sister was leaving. After all, things hadn’t been great between the Livley sisters over the past few months. Maryn wasn’t around to be there for Mercy who was more rebellious than Maryn had ever been even back in her day. Maryn did have the tendency to let that rebellious streak shine every now and then, especially when Kia got a crazy idea, but Mercy was different than Maryn had ever been. It was weird to see her this way. Mercy had gone from Jane Austen, to well; actually Maryn knew nothing about the new Mercy. Well, basically nothing. All she knew was that the new Mercy was moving to New Zealand. Deep down, Maryn knew that this was the best things for Mercy. But, she would never ever admit that.
“Where are you going?” Mercy asked standing as the doorway as Maryn stood pulling pieces of her hair back. “Out.” Maryn said simply avoiding eye contact with her sister for as long as possible. Maryn wouldn’t say it out loud, but she already missed her sister. Mercy hadn’t even left yet and still Maryn missed her so badly. Mercy eyed Maryn as she tugged at the bottom of her yellow top. Mercy sighed. “Maryn look..” She started. Maryn shook her head. “Look nothing Mercy. You’re leaving us. You’re leaving your family and moving across the globe.” Maryn finally looked her sister dead in the eye. “Do you hate us that much?” She asked finally. “Do you hate us that much?” She asked finally. Mercy stood there in shook, not saying a word. “Well? Well!” Maryn screamed hating the silence. “Maryn, c’mon!” Mercy called tears wavering in her eyes. Maryn shook her head. “I don’t know what I did Mercy, but it must have been horrible.” Maryn said grabbing her purse from a chair and leaving the room. “Maryn. Maryn!” Mercy called but Maryn didn’t listen. She just moved as fast as she could to the household Floo Network. She was in her beloved London as fast as she could possibly want.
Maryn walked through her old neighborhood twenty minutes after she had left the Livley house. She had never been so angry at Mercy. And still, Maryn had never wanted her sister to stay more than she did at the moment. Maryn paused standing in front of the old house. She liked Liverpool, she did. But, she missed London. She missed the old life. Everything seemed so simple back then and yet Maryn knew that it had never been simple. She sighed making herself leave the old house before she cried. Crying wasn’t an option for the moment. No, Maryn preferred anger. That way, she didn’t have to embarrass herself with tears. Maryn walked a bit before she smiled seeing the old diner she and Piper used to hand out in. She smiled a bit walking in. Maryn made her way for the counter. “Hey Tony.” She said smiling to the old face. Tony smiled. “Maryn, it has been awhile.” She nodded. “Umm, just a butterbeer for now.” She ordered simply. Tony nodded and then disappeared into the kitchen. It wasn’t so long Tony left that a boy sat at the counter. He defiantly looked familiar. Maryn was pretty sure that she had seen him about the Common Room, she just wasn’t too familiar with him. She smiled only a tad at his words. “Special School? I much prefer ‘gifted’.” She commented lightly. “Maryn.” She introduced herself casually. “Yea, me too. The brave house and fifth year comment that is.” She said nodding. Maryn raised an eyebrow at his beautiful face comment. “Thanks I guess.” Maryn certainly wasn’t in the mood for flattery, but she would try and conceal that little fact. Besides, Maryn had never been the girl to think of herself as beautiful. She knew she wasn’t ugly and that was enough for her. Maryn looked and dressed how she pleased not caring about what others thought much. She had always been like that. Maryn eyed Ethan as he placed his order. “I don’t think I’m going to eat, but thanks.” She told him trying to be polite. Maryn smiled as Tony brought her drink. “Thanks.” She told him. Maryn took a sip of her drink and then looked to Ethan. She wondered if he could pick up on her sour mood. It was kind of obvious after all. But, boys will be boys. “So, you wouldn’t happen to have siblings would you?” She asked casually. Maryn thought of Mercy for a second. “Because if you happen to have a little sister moving across the globe, you have my sympathies.” She said not really thinking about her words, but not caring much either.

"No need to thank me, forgive me, but it looks as if you need a little joy today."
“So, you wouldn’t happen to have siblings would you?” She asked casually. “Because if you happen to have a little sister moving across the globe, you have my sympathies.” She said pretty casually, letting Ethan know exactly what was on her mind.
"Ah, so that's what's bugging you, I did wonder after you turned down such a well thought out compliment. I really should be in the smart house, I come up with such good compliments. But that's not important." Tony came back with a heaping plateful of eggs, bacon, toast, and every other breakfast food Ethan could think up.
"Thanks Tony, put it on my tab."
"Anyway, to answer your question, I did have a sister, her name was Jessie. She died when I was six though." Ethan said in a rather casual tone. He thought back to the weekend when Jessie had kissed him goodbye and gave him a loving smile. She was going to a party. He remembered that night, waiting there with his parents, calling her cell a million times per minute. Ethan remembered his message. Jessie, please come back! I miss you big sister! Ethan snapped out of this horrible memory and continued talking.
"But if your sister wants to move, let her move. And never think it's your fault. She probably just wants to start a new life, probably a change in scenery?" Ethan took a bite of bacon. "Or she has a husband and six children she just hasn't told you about yet." Ethan joked after a rather large bite of egg.
"How old is your sister anyway?"

Maryn nodded a tad taking a sit of the butterbeer now before her. "Normally, I would probably deny what you just say, but seeing that I'm not in the mood, yea, joy doesn't seem so bad right now." She said thinking of the empty room that might await her when she got home. Maryn couldn't imagine Mercy not being there when Maryn needed her. Mercy had always been the sensible one in the family, the low maintenance one. She had never required too much attention. Well, not until now. Now, Mercy seemed to have all eyes on her. Maryn shook her head slightly. Still, it was weird to think that her little sister was moving across the globe. Does she just want to get away from me? Maryn thought silently. It didn't matter. Mercy was leaving no matter what. Maryn thought to Nate for a minute. What would he say? He had just gotten out of recovery and now Mercy was leaving. Nate was finally in a good place. thinking of him wondering if his illness had caused Mercy to leave made Maryn feel like crying. How could Mercy not understand that this would hurt the whole family? Why did she feel like she had to run away from them? Maryn knew that all these questions were useless and after a moment, she got tired of asking herself them. She looked to Ethan after giving up her tiring thoughts.
"Well, I kinda usually turn down compliments." She said taking a sip of her drink. Really, Maryn had sort of isolated herself from boys after Leon's death. She still talked to her few friend boys and her brothers of course but that was about it. After Leon had died the summer before, Maryn had unawaringly decided that she didn't need a boy to make her happy. She had done that before and he had died. So to not risk being hurt again, Maryn had basically stuck her nose in her studies and hanging out with her best-friend. Maryn looked back to Ethan after eying the clock on the wall for awhile. Maryn's eyes widened when Ethan said that his sister had died when he was six. "I'm sorry." She said out of the blue. Maryn hated hearing these kinds of stories and she always felt sympathy for them. Maryn really felt bad for Ethan as she herself had thought that she was going to loose her little brother. Maryn shook her head. "Well, she's not exactly old enough to move across the globe. But, she will be staying with my aunt and uncle. And god I hope she doesn't have kids." She shuddered at the thought. "She's only eleven." She said in response to Ethan's question. "Far too young to leave her family. We need her down here, especially my little brother." She said thinking to Nate. Maryn sighed. "This sucks." She finally admitted.

"Normally, I would probably deny what you just say, but seeing that I'm not in the mood, yea, joy doesn't seem so bad right now." She said rather sadly.
"Ah, it's nice to know I'm helping out. I can't stand to see an unhappy girl, it just kills me."
"Well, I kinda usually turn down compliments." She said taking a sip of her drink. Ethan could tell this girl was scarred. Some guy had really hurt her, so now she had her guard up around any guy who came along. It was sad, really, but Ethan saw it a lot. Mostly in his ex-girlfriends. He wasn't exactly happy about all the hearts he had broken in the past, but there was nothing really he could do about it. They were history. Hopefully, they had the sense to move on. Some had so much sense, that they were already sleeping with other guys. Most of his muggle friends were very quick in relationships. They could crush on someone, go out with them, sleep with them, break up with them, and find a new crush all in one week. Ethan was not like them at all. He always believed in waiting for the right girl to come along. Most people didn't expect this of a guy like Ethan, but it was true.
Maryn's eyes widened when Ethan said that his sister had died when he was six. "I'm sorry." She said out of the blue. She looked at him with such sympathy, such sadness, that it tugged at his heart to see her like that. He could tell she was one of those that tended to get really upset in the face of death. Ethan thought of it as going on a permanent vacation. Nothing to be sad over. "Well, she's not exactly old enough to move across the globe. But, she will be staying with my aunt and uncle. And god I hope she doesn't have kids." She shuddered. "She's only eleven." She said in response to Ethan's question. "Far too young to leave her family. We need her down here, especially my little brother." She said. Maryn sighed. "This sucks." She finally admitted.
"Well, don't worry. And remember, it's never your fault. She does seem a little young to move so far, but if your folks are okay with it, and you know she loves you, you should be too. Trust me, it's hard to let go." He said, thinking of Jesse, and how long it took him to believe she was really gone.
